The butter chicken was rich, creamy, and full of flavor with tender pieces of chicken. Perfect balance of spice and sweetness. The chicken biryani was fragrant, well seasoned, and packed with flavor without being too heavy. Great portions, friendly service, and everything tasted fresh. Stopped by for their lunch buffet with friends, one of whom is vegan. I don't think she was able to find options and had to go vegetarian, but they do have the buffet split into vegetarian and non-Vegetarian. It's not easily visible and we had to ask so she'd know where to pick from. The food was delicious, I love butter chicken. We moved to Hawaii 12-14 years ago and it's hard to find a restaurant with Good Indian food n the islands, even close to Sansar. I had the $18.99 AYCE lunch buffet last Saturday. The choices were sufficient, but left me wishing to see more. Each dish I tried was flavorful including my usual go-to's of fish pakora & butter chicken. They had grilled peppers and sweet fried bread, which were both nice additions than other places. The lamb curry ran out early and was not refilled even with an hour of service remaining! All other proteins were quite empty and not barely refilled. Service was minimal to clearing plates. Wanted to come here for the stellar reviews. Came on a weekday for the lunch buffet 11-2:30, and we were seated immediately. Plenty of food choices but they didn't have the chicken tikka masala. For dessert they had fruits and kheer. The best part was the garlic naan (not included in the buffet I believe it was $5 per order) Lunch buffet was around $20 per person. Food was just okay. Service was okay. It was an underwhelming experience. We went for buffet and in salad they had lettuce only, in main course it was lentils which was almost empty, cold and they did not refill for good 20 minutes, the dessert had half cooked rice pudding. May be it was a wrong day and time we picked or may be the chef was not in mood to cook. We paid for the entire party and went to another restaurant for meals. The staff here were really friendly, and the food was good! They always kept our water glasses full and got our order in promptly. The garlic naan looked really good but it was less soft than I was expecting. The lamb curry was good, at a medium spice level it had kick but wasn't overwhelming in my opinion. The chicken vindaloo at a medium spice level felt less spicy, but the chicken and potatoes were very well prepared. The restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere, nice for an evening out. Big fan of Sansar! The staff is SO friendly and kind. It's usually quiet to medium busy the times that I have gone, and food comes out quickly. Personally it's my go to Indian spot in Livermore. The AYCE lunch buffet is just okay (they put out the classics and it's a good deal, but I like other menu items more) but I think where they shine is dinners. Portions are all good for the price and the medium spice level is perfect- the spice isn't overpowering the food but it's very flavorful. A favorite are the lamb curries and samosas. I ordered Butter Chicken, Kadai Prawns and fish and bread basket to enjoy dinner with my Mom. The Butter Chicken dish was very special as it had just curry but no chicken. We went on a treasure hunt to look for Chicken in the butter chicken dish but were disappointed. The same story was repeated with the other "Kadai prawn and fish" dish having 2 prawn and 1 fish fillet in a 19$ dish. If you are big into curries and don't really care about the meat, this is your restaurant. Highly recommend the restaurant if only curry is your thing, else Little India in livermore is closeby. Garlic Naan, onion kulcha in the bread basket were really good and I will give 5 stars to that. The experience with vegetarian dishes was slightly different and I would give those a try. My third and final review for Sansar.. we came here for a lunch, They have an all you can eat lunch buffet for 20$ per person. Pretty pricey to me. The had rice. Butter chicken. Salads. Fish pokara. There was old food splattered on some of their tables and their menus could use a wipe down. The service was ok, they seem to be a bit scattered, it took a while for them to sit us and give us menus. At first the waitress handed us a card with a QR square that didn't bring up their menu it seemed the website was down. She ended up "finding" some menus instead. I've only come to dine-in once before but I love ordering take out from Sansar! This is a no nonsense Indian restaurant in downtown Livermore. They also offer a buffet during lunch. I've only been to try the buffet once and I prefer their quality when ordering regularly. My favorite dishes include the Chicken Tikka Masala, Boneless Chicken Tikka, garlic naan, chicken pakora, veggie samosa, butter chicken, biryani, and Kheer (for dessert). When you order you are able to adjust your spice level and they are true to their levels. Everything is wonderfully seasoned and flavorful. We order from Sansar about once a week! The food is great and consistent. We typically order the Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and naan. Servings are good (although we could always eat more chicken). Good levels of spice too. I brought my family in for lunch and had been here so many times because the food is always so wonderful. However, I'm not sure what exactly it was that we ate, but we all got very ill following the meal. We ordered Butter Chicken, Fish Curry, Papti Chat, Samosas, and Some Garbanzo Bean dish i can't recall the name of. At first I thought maybe it was just me, but once I communicated with my other family members who ate there (including our 1 year old) everyone who ate there had either vomited or had it come out the other end. We also all live in separate households so I don't think it's a virus of any kind since there are no other symptoms other than the food coming back out. Although I have always had wonderful experiences here, us all getting very ill after eating is a big red flag. This was the first Indian restaurant in Livermore. After all these years, it's still the best. Wifey had the samosa chaat and was not let down. I tried it and as usual, it was amazing. Even the buffet is a gourmet experience. From the fish pakora to the mutter paneer and the raita...just stellar. Don't even get me started on the Gulab Jamon, I could eat it all. I craved Indian food at work and found this place was nearby for my DoorDash. Garlic Naan: I love naan and this was plentiful and flavorful. The garlic and cilantro was full of fragrance in this and I loved dipping it into my butter chicken sauce. Basmati Rice: It was dry, which is personally to my liking. The little cumin peppers were a nice flavor for the rice. The sauce from my butter chicken coated it nicely. Butter Chicken: This is my absolute favorite thing to eat. The sauce was creamy and paired well with the rice and naan. There was a good amount of chicken as well, so I was not disappointed. I ordered medium spicy and it had the right amount of kick for me. This is your average Indian restaurant, kind of like in small towns or east coast where they try to fit in most people in the least amount of space and it ends up getting stuffy (and annoying when people walk in or out). That one less star is because of this ambiance of the place. The food, however, is good. It's not the best amongst the other options in Tri-Valley (especially some places in Pleasanton downtown) but it's definitely worth trying them out and getting take outs on those lazy days. Their medium was spicy for me but my tolerance is also quite low, so I ended up eating the mild dishes that we ordered for the kids. The item I would go back for is their Special Rice. I loved it! It pairs perfectly with all the gravies, it has raisins, cashews, saffron so really rich and amazing flavors. Their tandoori mixed grill was also great, except for the shrimp in it. We were seated right in the middle on their dining so that was a little too much for us. They were efficient with orders, even if crowded they didn't mess up any orders at any table. My new favorite Indian restaurant. In my search for an Indian restaurant with outdoor seating, I discovered Sansar. First of all, they have a small outdoor dining space in the front of the building and a much larger one out back. It's perfect for outdoor dining during a pandemic. My family has tried various vegetarian options. My favorite is chana masala. The sauce has so many layers of flavor that I just keep going back for another bite. The dal makhani is another favorite as well as the paneer tikka masala. We always get mixed vegetables as well. They are also really good at dialing the heat up or down depending on your taste. We always get one really hot, one medium, and the rest mild to accommodate our children. It's always been perfect for everyone's taste.
