Excellent food! The water chestnut reminded me of sweet and sour pork. The chicken tikka masala was comfort food. Mutton Rogan Josh meat was melting off the bone. It was on the spicier side but a good spice level. One of the employees who I presume was the owner was telling us they are planning many to do hibachi style with a mix of Indian, Japanese, Italian, and American. Hence the grills. Service was fine. Walked around the building looking for the entrance. Tripped at least once on uneven payment. Upon entering I was greeted, given a menu, assigned a seat at the bar. Seeing it was a drink menu, I asked for a food menu. After consultation with bartender, I ordered. He gave order to waitress. Never saw him again. 5ish minutes later, waitress came over to inquire what I wanted to drink. "Water" i replied. Water came 12 minutes later with my food. Offerings: South India fare: soup, entrees, salads, entrees, vegetarian, non-vegetarian. Also pasta, India habachi. Bites: Dakshin Chicken Chettinad (18.99) med. Spicy. Small bowl with big spoon -boneless chicken pieces slowly braised in a savory with many spices (garlic, cumin, black pepper, star anise, funnel seeds, kok slaps...), south curry leaves, and coconut. Every bite deliz. -very condensed savory mix with plentiful Unami. Hotness from peppers not chilis. Tandoori garlic naan (3.99) ordered this. Got plain. Tasted plain. Not spiciness. Desired garlic not to repel vampires but to lower my cholesterol. Didn't discover discrepancy till I checked receipt. When finished, I asked the new bartender for bill. He called waitress. She came over and asked can she clear plates? "Ok" I said. She did and disappeared. Asked bartender again for my bill. Decor is lots of bright lites, big dining area, 2 flatscreens tuned to sports. Came to celebrate a few birthdays in the family. Our reservation was for 6 and we were promptly seated. It was pretty empty, which was understandable due to the bad weather. After we were sat things moved kind of slowly. Drink orders were taken then food orders and then the wait. We waited for a long time before the hibachi started which we chalked up to us being a party of 11 but there was no communication about the delay. Anyways, on to the main attraction. We did the Hibachi grill for 6 (chicken and steak). The ingredients were fresh. And the portion is good but the asian food is definitely flavored to cater to the South-Asian community. The fried rice had no veggies (like carrots/corn/peas), literally only egg and oil/soy sauce mixed in basmati rice (not even jasmine). The menu stated you get a salad but we got a soup instead which had too much ginger and black pepper (it tasted like one of those knorr soup packets you get at the grocery store and did not taste fresh) and no one in our party drank it. The garlic noodles had no garlic flavor, the meat was fresh but the food was overly salty and surprisingly still had no taste and bland. Our chef was nice (DW) but nothing unusual for the Hibachi style. The staff aren't rude but they are definitely confused. I called in 2 weeks prior and made a reservation but when we arrived they had no record of my reservation request. They made it seem like they were really busy and were doing us a favor by serving us. The restaurant was still pretty vacant by the time we left. The servers and staff had us repeating everything multiple times since they couldn't hear us over the music and just a confusing experience. They also forgot about us after the Hibachi grill presentation was done, we had to holler to get to l-go-boxed and our bill. 2 stars because they offer halal meats and good quality ingredients and their location otherwise I'm likely not going to return here anytime soon. read more

I booked AK Lounge for a special private party and paid the advance deposit more than a month in advance. On Tuesday evening, just four days before the event, I received a call informing me that the restaurant had permanently closed and would not be able to host my party. What was most disappointing was the lack of consideration for the impact this had on my family and guests. With only a few days remaining before the event, invitations had already been sent and preparations were underway. Finding a suitable replacement venue on such short notice created tremendous stress and inconvenience. It is difficult to believe that the decision to close was made overnight. If the restaurant was aware of financial or operational issues that could affect upcoming events, it should not have continued accepting reservations and advance payments. Customers deserve timely communication so they can make alternative arrangements. Businesses have a responsibility to honor their commitments or provide adequate notice when they cannot. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled left us scrambling to save an important celebration at the last minute and has significantly damaged our trust in the business. read more

AK Lounge hosted a Yelp event several months ago which I attended, and had concerns about. It wasn't well organized, and the staff distributing food made mistakes identifying vegetarian dishes, so that I ended with a mouth full of chicken, twice. Still, we found the menu interesting, and it certainly has a unique vibe among Indian restaurants. We ordered crispy pakodas and I had an "SF Martini." The martini was fine, but the pakodas were more like hash brown style, even served with ketchup, in addition to the mint chutney. For dinner we ordered dal makhani "American mild" for The Wife, and paneer butter masala for me, medium spicy, along with garlic naan. The food was tasty, but still too spicy for The Wife. We took it all home, and I was able to enjoy the leftovers for a couple days. read more

Most amazing meal and service ever. I show up late, right after closing. Park my Tesla at the charger. Go inside. Ask for food. Might be closed. Guy goes into the kitchen to check. Closed. "Are you really that hungry?" the guy asks. "Yes, I'm starving," I respond. The Indian man looks me in the eye and grabs my hand. "We will take care of you," the man says, leading me to a table. "You will have my food." I am, as I discover, talking to the owner, Anosh. He proceeds to feed me the most delicious plate of rice and fish and other delicious things. We talk. He tells me about his car, advises me to sell my Tesla. I tell him he's crazy. We debate. Meanwhile, I eat like a goddamn king. In the end, I am stuffed and sated and very happy. I want to pay this man some money. He refuses. "If you have cash, give my bartender a tip." Now I am back in my Tesla. I am full. I am happy. And I am in disbelief at how lucky I got, how good the food was and how wonderful a human being the owner of this joint is. 5/5 stars. No notes. read more

The restruant was not prepared for the crowd. They did not have enough staff to take orders. We had to wait 45 minutes for them to take our order. Our order came after 30 minutes. The Pashwar chicken Curry was great. There was lots of tender chicken and flavorful gravy. The palak paneer was ok. The cheese had no flavor. Our friends had a Cesar salad and chicken Alfredo. We ordered steak, chicken, shrimp and a side of noodles. The proteins were all really good but the noodles were a bit thin (I was expecting thick noodles). The staff was nice and attentive. The restaurant was clean. Pricing is dependent on how many proteins you order. One protein is $30 and two proteins is $43. Each order comes with fried rice and veggies. I'd been meaning to try this place since they opened (and kept missing the Yelp Elite events!)--finally got around to it, and I'm so glad I did. The flavors were fresh and well-balanced across everything we ordered. What really stood out was the generous portion of meat in the biryanis--unlike other spots that give you two sad pieces of meat in a "family-size" serving! The mutton biryani was outstanding, the chicken biryani was decent, and the kebabs were delicious. We ordered via DoorDash, and I really appreciated their spice level customization--from "American mild" to hot. The mild was truly mild, but still packed with flavor, making it a great option for kids (unlike many places where "mild" is a gamble). The only downside is the location--tucked in a busy area where parking can be a challenge, especially on weekends with grocery store traffic. But overall, totally worth it! read more

The server did get one of our food items mixed up with another table's item but all good. The music was upbeat, however the shows on the TV's didn't seem family friendly. Great spot for a large group, and they have live music! We were there early on a Friday night, 5-7 pm, and the music was just starting as we were wrapping up, but it was really good! Large bar menu, plenty of both vegetarian and meat options. We mostly had Indian dishes: chicken biryani was good, so were the pakora, and the fried baby corn. Less memorable were the tikka paneer, the chicken kebab patties, and the fried rice. Service was friendly but non-intrusive. Prices were very reasonable, and we had plenty of leftovers. The family next to us literally had heated arguments with the restaurant guys and left in the middle of the service. They were made to wait so long for the stale food they were suppling. Probably one of the worst food I ever had in entire Bay Area. All the items we have ordered wasn't even cooked properly. Tandoori chicken was literally stinking therefore somebody from health department is required to visit in order to see if they even following the health department's guidelines. Just felt that the chicken was bland in all of them - like the marination had not reached inside the chicken and at times the chicken did feel stale as well.
