Stumbled upon this place while walking the area. I did not have the tasting reservation, nor that I wanted one. When I asked if they have cabernet, the tasting associate asked me if I want to try it. I did. We started the wine conversation, one thing led to another, I ended up buying some Pinos. All-n-all was a very pleasant experience. This actually means a lot considering my spoiled Napa Valley attitude. :) Thank you, guys. I am a fan. Will be back. read more

Enjoyed the people, the views, the wines and the nice patio breeze here at SB Winery! The owners were so nice and took great care of us, bringing us out a pitcher of water as well as a bowl for the pup and some treats for her, too - so sweet! I got a tasting - you get to choose any 5 that you'd like which is nice instead of a preset menu. I liked how they came out in little glasses that you pour into your own glass, kind of a DIY tasting. I enjoyed the wines and they have some great full bodied reds. Overall great experience and I will be back during my next Funk Zone visit! read more

I want to start by saying that I rarely feel compelled to write a bad review. I give businesses a lot of grace, as I understand the challenges they face. However, I could not stay silent after reading that several others have had a similar bad experience at Santa Barbara Winery. We visited recently and immediately felt unwelcome. An older white woman was very short with us and asked how many people we had and then quickly said that she could not accommodate us. There was a large empty table in open view (it had not been cleaned off yet). She was extremely condescending and rude. We were a group of 10, mixed ethnicities but all minority. We had an engineer, attorney, dentist, and school psychologist in our group- we were not a group that was going to sit around and not buy anything. We were never asked if we wanted to wait for a table, or given any options to get served. I have never had an experience like this and as we walked out to find another winery, we all shared the terrible feeling it gave us. We had 3 children with us and they were very confused about why we were rushed out and not served. I hope this business does a better job of serving its customers in the future. read more

I have always been a fan of Santa Barbara Winery... back in the day, I used to come up here for their Riesling. They used to be a little sweeter than the current one on the list now but I had a taste of the Dry Riesling and it was crisp and complimentary to any spicy dish or refreshing enough for a summer meal. The 2021 Reserve Chardonnay was a winner too! While I was there I also chose a 2018 Petit Verdot a lush red wine to which my daughter didn't waste any time trying... she gave it an enthusiastic THUMBS UP! If you like the Boudreaux region you should definitely try this one. If you happen to come up and find yourself wanting an impromptu picnic on the beach they have items here for your basket. Plenty of seating around the main tasting area with additional seating out on the deck with plenty of shade. Oh yeah and high top tables inside as well. Respectfully Reviewed. read more

Called the winery to ask a couple of questions before visiting the winery, and "John" answered the phone being extremely short and rude. I greeted by asking "Hi John, how are you?" and he straight up just said "BUSY. What's up." The rest of the conversation was short and he was overall cold. He definitely didn't sound like a young cat, so I'm assuming he's been there or in the industry for some time. Why be in a service oriented industry if you can't even answer a simple phone call with courtesy? We genuinely love giving our business to well-deserved establishments and literally go back to certain ones JUST for the service, when it's that outstanding. Needless to say I have no interest going here, just from a short phone call. Thanks, John! Hopefully you can find your vocation's calling, because you certainly haven't yet :-) read more

We have been wine club members here for over 25 years. Over the years we have joined many wine clubs and we have dropped many wine clubs but Santa Barbara is the one that we have never cancelled. Over the years this has always been such a consistent winery with excellent selection. We are always able to find our every day "Monday-Thursday" wines that don't break the bank as well and the aged estate and reserve wines that we save for a special occasion and a high quality fillet mignon or Osso Bucco. We love that they have diverse options to select from. We live in Orange County so we haven't been to the tasting room for at least 5 years. Back when we went more often we always loved the casual laid back and welcoming feel of the tasting room. We were so pleased to see that has not changed. We had such a wonderful visiting the tasting room. The people there were very pleasant and the customer were all having a great time. There was a lovely table of ladies celebrating and breaking into song which the rest of the room joined in and applauded. It just felt like family. Shout out to Yvonne, Jennifer and Dave for treating us so well. We are well stocked in wine now, but can't wait for our next visit. read more

In Vino, Veritas! Ah...the allure of the vine. The orchestra of olfactory and tempered taste of the grape, the air, the soil and the ferment. An exploration of the nectar of the grape gods. This is the motivation that moved us to venture to Santa Barbara Winery in what is known as The Zone of Funk in this fair city. A friend and I entered the epicurean establishment. We were greeted a bit coldly initially, but the service grew warmer from there. We sat outside on their lovely astroturf and shaded patio and were given a list of myriad varieties to choose from, instructed to select 5. I went the "reds" route while my companion went for the "whites". Our 5 choices were numbered and placed in glasses in a wooden flight holder. As veteran imbibers, we appreciated this win-win tasting strategy. We could try wines at our own pace and chat without interruption or waiting for the next pour, and employees also don't have to check on patrons constantly. Bonus: they provide welcome oyster crackers as a palate cleanser. If one was an amateur imbiber, wishing to acquire the knowledge of each varietal from the "wine seller" (pun utterly intended) then this set up may not be as desirable. In this case, one could sit inside at the bar for a more personal and informational vino experience. Together, we enjoyed most of the tastings on offer, but the Granache/Syrah was our ultimate favourite. . read more

Incredible wine, service, and atmosphere. The staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating with our seating preferences. The wine came out in flight fashion, which let us go at our own pace, and were sizeable pours that my spouse and I could split. Truly wonderful and they were all good! My favorite winery in the funk zone! We were immediately greeted and the wine tasting was only $25! You pick 5 and they bring them to you in a flight so you can serve yourself. For all the comments saying that they turn you down 15 min before closing. I would to! They shouldn't have a bad review for that. When you have wine you want to sit down and enjoy it. This is a cute little winery located in the "funk zone" of Santa Barbara. It was a beautiful day and my group and I sat outside with a couple of our pups to enjoy our tasting. We were started off with a sheet that you write your name on and check off the 5 wines you'd like to taste- we all chose the reds. It's only $15 for a tasting and bottle purchases are all very reasonably priced as well. We enjoyed each wine and bought a couple of bottles to enjoy later on at home. They weren't serving food, but maybe they'll bring back their cheese boards soon- fingers crossed! We'll be back for a visit the next time we're in the area! read more

I brought my mother here as it was her first time in S.B. on 4/7/25 around 130pm. We interacted with a white, older woman with blondish hair. She made us feel VERY unwelcome. When speaking to us, her tone was condescending and disparaging. She was also purposefully unhelpful and insolent. When I asked her for any recommendations, her response was was a flat "no." This shocked me, as I had just overheard her give specific recommendations to customers inside. Also, because it's custom to receive recommendations when selecting wines to taste. When I then stated "Wow, really? None at all?" She responded with "Well I don't know what you like" and did not follow up. She did not inquire about our taste preferences or even make an attempt to try to help us find a wine we would enjoy. When I disclosed that we enjoyed red wine, her response was "Well, there are 5 wines to choose from so there you go." She then left, leaving us dumbfounded. My mother and I felt so disrespected that we returned the menus and left to spend our money elsewhere. Given that racial micro-aggressions are something I face regularly, this felt very much like one of those moments. But, I can't be sure. My husband and I used to bring all our friends and family here as the first stop of any wine tour we curated for them. Needless to say, I will never be recommending this place, nor spending my money here again. Such a shame too, as I have a lot of wine money to spend. read more

We stopped here as we were walking Funk Zone and we were greeted with "we are closing in 15 minutes" immediately we felt unwanted and as if we were bothering them. We asked if we could get a glass of wine and we were told.... "It would have to be something of what we already have open" ummm... What if we don't like or want what's open is what we asked and we were told that they would not open a different bottle because they were closing in 15 minutes. Now the entire tasting room was packed with people and the other lady working there was gladly serving other people and even opened a new bottle of wine. I don't want to say it was because we are of a different race but that is definitely how it felt. We have since gone back to funk zone a couple of times and this place was not one of our stops. It is sad because the environment felt fun and inviting. We not only felt unwanted and uncomfortable with our interaction with this employee she made us feel very disrespected. We will not support this business in any way. We always give places a second chance but not when we get treated as if we do not belong. read more

When our group arrived late, Suzanne greeted us at the street and proceeded to yell at all of us, in front of other Customers, instead of taking our guide aside and handing the situation with maturity and some discretion. "You're late, I've been calling you for two hours!" This would turn out to be a lie: our tour guide had her phone in her hand for the last two hours and received no call; furthermore, another person in our guide's organization was called only a few minutes before our arrival. Great place for wine tasting with an overall good vibe. It was highly recommended by a friend. It helped that we met a couple while there who were members and therefore friendly with our server. Otherwise, our greeting was lukewarm with a firm reminder that they close at 6:00 pm and the time of their last pour. Fair enough since we arrived about 5:00. I tried four reds and one rose. All of the reds were really good but if I had to name a favorite, it would be the Grenache but again all we're good. The rose was ehh to not good at all. A bit too watery and citrusy for my taste. Given the time of day, I felt like the pours were coming pretty fast with little time to clear my pallet, and no nibbles to help with that but overall, it was a great experience. I hope they consider remaining open at least until 7pm. It's a great wind down spot. read more

After wandering around the Funk Zone trying to choose where to stop, we chose this winery. It was a great choice! We liked every wine we tasted on our flight and spent a couple hours enjoying some wine, the atmosphere, and conversation with the other patrons. The tasting room was nice/new and felt more like a room in Los Olivos than the Funk zone to me....also a little older crowd (which was fine with us)! We were on a tour with a large group and our wine tasting was already paid for. We were a little late and when we arrived, the place was closed. When we finally found out the other location they moved to, we didn't even get out of the bus before a blonde women yelled at our facilitator that she had canceled our group tasting. It was extremely unprecedented and unprofessional for a service entity that is an ambassador to Santa Barbara, display such callous rudeness. We left and went a block away to Margerum Wine bar, where we were treated like queens. SBW kept all the money and all we got was "Sour Grapes". Not a review I am proud to leave for a Santa Barbara business as all our other adventures there were lovely. read more
