We visited Municipal Winemakers/Potek Winery on 05/24/2026 at about 5:30PM. We were early for our 6:15pm reservation, and you enter through a mutual courtyard shared by Third Window Brewing and Potek Winery. It is a great area, and boy does it get busy on the weekends. There are plenty of places to sit both indoors and outdoors. Because we had a reservation, they had reserved a table for us outdoors. Although, we ended up finding a different place inside, which was not a problem for them. We did a wine tasting, and we had one rose and three reds. The choices were great, and we enjoyed them thoroughly. We did end up buying two bottles of the rose, which did waive the tasting for one of us. We were assisted today by Kat, and she was such a pleasure. She explained each of the wines to us, and went above and beyond in helping us with other things as well. Located within the Third Window premises, order a burger and go over and order a flight to taste or a glass or the bottle. The rose is great on a warm day and I recommend the Grenache if you want something a bit lighter on the reds side. The service was prompt. Loved this place. Not a huge fan of the shared space, BUT, the music was great, we were outside, and the 4 wine tasting was really good. We like everything we had. Jill was our wine server, and she was excellent! Knew the wines, was engaged, and very helpful. She was extremely busy but deftly handled all of it. A gem. The place is a little tricky but just gointo the courtyard by the brewery. We didn't eat but the food looked and smelled great. Potek Winery is outside of the Funkzone and that is a plus for me! Especially on a Saturday afternoon, I could use a break from the crowds of the Funkzone. Upon entering, we were greeted with lively tunes on the outside of Potek which also has a nice seating area and a hipster ambiance! (Y'all know I love me some ambiance). If you have your Axxess deal, use it here as you can get a 2 for 1 tasting! We were seated inside in the front of the tasting room behind the barrels. This is a secluded seating area and honestly, I felt like I was in the VIP area! This area looks like it would great for bigger groups! We were brought our flights with info booklets on each wine and left to just relax and sip! I did enjoy the different shapes of the glasses they used, it just added to the vibe! Today I had the opportunity by default to attend the Protec event Featuring their newly released sparklings and Reds I think. One of the highlights was having Bettina restaurant with their mobile pizza oven. Originally it was a sold out event when I tried to respond by email. Yet lo and behold I was allowed to be on the waiting list. Dave and his staff were on point the sparkling flowed the reds were superb deep flavor crisp yet Hardy if that makes any sense. I Hadn't visited protec in a while, That made It specially special. The Bettina Pop up oven Was over the top. My neighbor Danielle is the chef at the restaurant. I really loved their pies Gotta be one the best in town. All in all an amazing afternoon especially since it almost didn't happen. Special thanks to Dave the staff and the crew at Potek. Came across Potek Winery by coincidence. We peered into their tasting and were interested in its quiet and relaxed ambience. Inside the host shared the tasting menu with us and we decided to split one tasting which was $20 - a mix of one white and a few reds. The tasting came with a small booklet describing each wine and how it was curated. Each was fantastic, but the Syrah was our favorite. After the tasting and chatting with the host we decided to become a wine member. We joined their dual membership which gave us free tastings at their sister Winery in the Funkzone. It was a great deal and we are excited to be a part of both wineries. I highly recommend both - Potek for a sophisticated and quiet tasting and Muni for a fun/young vibe. There's no shortage of tasting rooms in Santa Barbara at this point, but I can't recommend Potek enough to people when they are visiting. The wine always hits the right notes and it is entirely rewarding to be able to chat with the knowledgable staff or even the winemakers as they produce on site and are always generous with their time and craft. The ambiance is elevated without an attitude and the staff always achieves the perfect balance of attention and casual comfort to enjoy the space and most importantly the delicious wines. Wanted to check out Potek as we are Muni co members and wow were we blown away! Let's start off with the atmosphere of the place, it is pretty classy without a snobby feel (woohoo!). When you walk in you see wood and oak decor everywhere as well as barrels and fresh smells of wine. Not only are their wines delicious, they take special care to make sure you're getting the most of the wine. Potek has these special glasses for different types of wine to bring out the best smell and flavor. I fell in love with one of the tulip-shaped wine glasses that were as big as my head, when I asked how much they were I was astounded as they were $100 each! Was definitely more careful when drinking out of them after that, haha. Overall my experience here was great and you get a really nice full-service kind of experience here where they have you sit down and bring you your wine or flight. Awesome? Can't say that here since Municipal owns that word. I bring that up because Dave Potter who is the owner and wine maker for Municipal is also the owner and winemaker for Potek. This new wine label is going to be a higher end label. Grapes sourced for Potek are carefully selected and would more often than not be considerably more expensive than most wineries would normally use. While I feel Dave is the master of the blend, Potek is focused more on varietals. The winery is outside of the Funk zone and is in the new Mill building! A very nice space and is a producing winery. The tasting area is spacious and quite beautiful. They have a courtyard which will be shared by the other tenants of the building as well as their own private patio. Once the restaurant opens next door they will be doing sit-down wine and food pairings by reservation. I visited Potek during an extended soft opening. We tasted a dry Riesling which is made in a process more commonly used for red wines. Skins are left in after pressing and removed later. We also had a tasty Pinot Noir as well as a Syrah. The winery will be open to the public on or around August 1st. read more

I had heard a lot about this place, so perhaps I was going in with expectations that were too high. It is SUCH an amazing space, and every single detail put into the ambiance is exceptional. The wine is definitely drinkable, but not superb. My favorites were the Riesling and the Grenache. The service was all right. Definitely friendly, but also a bit absent-minded. The two girls working behind the counter were chatting with each other while I sat with my tasting glass empty, and that would totally be ok for a little while, but after many minutes had gone by, I realized that they were not going to notice me until I spoke up. And since I was the only person in the tasting room, it felt bizarre that they were ignoring me. Overall it is a spectacular venue (especially for Haley Street), but they may need to step up their game if they intend to compete with the many fantastic wineries in the area. read more

Came here for a tasting, and ended up with a bottle simply because they had great service. This was one of the highlight stops on my birthday urban wine trail tasting day. The staff was super friendly and got us seated quickly without slamming us with a bunch of wine specs and facts. They let us enjoy our wine and chimed in when necessary. The setup was for lounging where the menu was geared towards selling full glasses of wine rather than tasting. The one $20 tasting was served as a flight where all four glasses were poured at one time. For those that purchase bottles to take home, the flight fee is not waived. A music DJ was even present on a Saturday afternoon to help induce the outdoor lounge vibe. The wines were bipolar. Due to off-kilter flavors, the grenache and syrah were unidentifiable as Rhone reds while the Burgundian wines were spot-on with the crisp chardonnay and elegant pinot noir. The owner is nice enough to host a community event I organize, Santa Barbara Pie Contest, and this day is always a total blast where everyone eats their faces off and laughs a lot. We were there on Sunday to do a winetasting. We belong to a few wineries up in Santa Ynez. We thought we'd give this place a try unfortunately the wine was terrible. All four glasses of the Syrah had sediment in our glasses. The only one we could drink was the sparkling. The winery is very beautiful and high end. read more

I did not have a very good experience here. First, the wines are so-so. Although my opinion may be tainted by the service. Second, the woman that served us had a hickey on her neck that was distracting and put me off. Finally, it was advertised that we were going to be getting a tasting with "varietal specific" glassware. This is something I was looking forward to. However, without even telling us beforehand, we were not given varietal specific glasses. The group next to us was, but we were not. This wouldn't have been an issue if we were told this up front. However, I had to ask why we were not given these glasses and the response was that they had been busy and did not have enough clean glassware. This was obviously not the case as the entire wall behind the bar was filled with all of the different wine glasses one might need to do a tasting. The Mill is an interesting place and I'm glad they have a winery there to get a glass while out and about, but I was very unimpressed with the whole operation. read more

I had read a lot of "The Mill" during it's development and decided to come check it out now that it's open. Originally, my plan was to hit up the brewery but soon realized it wasn't open for business yet. My girlfriend and I -- never to waste a trip -- wandered into Potek instead and sampled the wine. She opted for simply a glass of Riesling while I did the tasting flight. The Grenache and Syrah were both very good. My girlfriend enjoyed the dry Riesling but I think the Blanc de Blanc sparkling wine was her most favorite. The server described it as being very dry and "yeasty" which is a perfect adjective. It's vaguely reminiscent of a beer in that it has that bread flavor to it. Very interesting and definitely tasty. The space is great and the server was very nice and knowledgable about the wines. We'd definitely come back here for the casual wine tasting or even to purchase a glass and sit outside in the courtyard. read more
