A year and a half ago, I was building my own computer. When I finally finished putting all the parts in and wiring it up, it wouldn't power on. I freaked out and brought it here where they looked at it and told me that I had a fan plugged in the wrong port on the motherboard. I'll never forget that because they got it started up and didn't charge a dime. I opened it up last night, and there was dust everywhere. I've never seen anything so dusty. I had a good feeling I put two of the fans on backwards when I built it and they told me I was right when I brought it in. I figured it needed a professional dusting, so they blasted it with a compressor meant for cleaning computers. They only charged me for the can of air the guy used to do spot touch-ups afterwards. $6.00 and it's all clean. If your computer starts heating up for no reason, and a lot of laptops 18-24 months old will do this even after a system reset or a software tune-up, there's probably dust on the heat-sync and it's not disseminating heat created by the CPU so well. You'll definitely want to try that before any software fixes because it's cheap here. read more

I took my old pc down and purchased a new laptop. (PC hard to evacuate and rehookup) I purchased a good new Dell laptop that had a backup disk. Santa Rosa Computers are wonderful. Finding them has changed my life. I was dealing with a company that not only could not solve my problem but wasted 4 weeks before I realized that. The gentlemen at Santa Rosa Computers know their computers backwards and forwards. They are incredibly competent, tremendously professional, reasonably priced, and all around GREAT guys. In my first experience, the power input on my Dell laptop had broken, the machine was not charging and had died. I was getting NO help from another computer company or from Dell. I run a construction company with my laptop, it was a few days before Christmas. I had a great deal of billing and bookkeeping to do, and I was frantic. When I took it to SR Computers, they gave me a very reasonable quote to repair the power input - and then pointed out that this particular model had a SECOND power input, and sold me a cord that fit it for a very reasonable price. Problem solved, I went from dead in the water to back in business in 10 minutes. I was VERY impressed, and every transaction since has just increased my respect and appreciation for this company. Damn, these guys are good. I mean, really, really good. Yelp doesn't have enough stars for these guys. I'm a former software-industry weenie, so I have some idea of the difference between just-basically-ok sysadmins and really-something-special ones; these guys are tops. Fast, efficient, no bullshit, they don't try to sell you stuff you don't need, and totally knowledgeable. Rush service for an extra $50, which seems entirely reasonable to me, and when I do that (because I'm *totally* dependent on my computer), they've always gotten me turned around the same day. They're also a really good source of hardware and components. I needed a long digital monitor cable, for instance, which Office Depot was going to charge something like $40 for. These guys had one for around $12. Just can't think of enough good stuff to say about them. read more

Before I went to Santa Rosa Computer, I hated the computer, and my computer was always down, we have to restart often, especailly when we are cashing out clients. One day I called santa rosa computer and talked to Nam. he helped me on the phone, and I was able to keep my computer going til he was able to get to my salon and fix it. He knows computer, and is great at managing my network ,POS and mantain my computer. Most of the time he could help me over the phone. Their price is great. They sold us a desktop with a fake version of windows. It says it all over the screen the moment I turned it on. IUpdate from the company: "We refurbished them and strip them and strip the generic license out of the computers. The actual license key sticker is on your computer." They were responsive and helpful when the issue was brought up. The computer seems to be alright now. My partner is happy. I just wish that we had known what to expect. read more

My external hard drive broke and I wasn't able to plug it into my computer. I was very worried about all my photos. I tried a big box store to get my external hard drive fixed and they couldn't fix the problem. They also didn't even have the part I needed. It was discontinued! They recommend Santa Rosa Computers. I spilled how tea all over my new laptop. I thought it was doomed. They fixed it in a jiffy, about 6 days due to first come first serve policy. Initial invoice was $80 diagnostic fee. I said cool sounds average. Come in to pick it up and they say it's $120 for diagnostic and labor. I was bummed, poor, and confused :c I told them this and how I thought the $80 covered it all, the disassembly and drying in order to run the diagnostic, and I think they could see my misunderstanding so the manager waived the extra $40! Bait and Switch! - No. Don't use. - I took my laptop in to fix crashing issues. Within the week they called and said they wiped the corruption issue, reinstalled the OS and all was good now. 80 for diagnostic, 80 for labor. 160 total bill. Within a day it crashes again. So brought it back. This time they say "drive failure, 80 bucks to replace. " if they had told me about the drive the first time I would have saved 80 bucks but they didn't tell me the first time so they get me the second time for 80 more. -- bait and switch. But, it turned out to be a very affordable fix and my computer lives on. Fantastic help! They have always been reliable with system builds, parts, and service. Troubleshooting is no problem. Recently, on a Saturday, I had a mission-critical high performance workstation go down. It was an elusive problem that was tracked down and fixed within hours, along with imaging a new SSD hard drive, and upgrading the RAM and video cards to increase performance even further. I am very pleased with the service given to me, with patience and expertise. I had a drive replaced with a new SSD drive ( i had purchased it on amazon, but no matter, they have it also), and they installed after cloning my old drive. When i got it back home it wouldn't boot, so i brought it back and they repaired it. After working for about a week, my house had an electrical spike, and again it wouldn't boot ( infinite cycling through the bios, but with again a corrupted mbr). They haven't charged me anything except for the original swap, but this last time i insisted they take at least some labor. He also gave me a customized flash drive to help next time, if i need it. Highly recommended! I also was waiting for the final clone, and a little ol lady came in, an elderly and bespeckled bag lady, with the computer she evidently bought there, and some technician at her home had mistakenly set her up with the wrong wifi connection. Well he very patiently fixed the thing and didn't charge her. He also, for my machine, had gotten rid of some nasty virus that had beaten my malware bytes, and security essentials. Brought a high-end gaming laptop in for diagnostic. I use the computer for college work in digital audio and some light video editing. They told me the diagnostic was going to be $80.00 which could be applied to the repairs or to another computer if it couldn't be repaired. Dude claimed it would take 3 days and that Geek Squad was twice the cost and they had up to a two-week turnaround. They never called me back so I had to call them to see what was up. They told me it was a bad motherboard which was too expensive to replace. I looked to see what they had in a refurbed business computer and they weren't even close to what Amazon offers, not even with the 80 bucks applied to the purchase. I was hoping I could at least recoup the diagnostic charge if I gave them my business but it just wasn't worth it. I like to support small local businesses but I should have taken my computer to an honest shop that would have charged a reasonable amount for the diagnostic and that actually had fair prices on refurbished machines. I feel they know exactly what they're doing when they offer the diagnostic. They know it won't be fixable, they know you're out 80 bucks and they think you'll just buy from them in the hope of recouping the diagnostic fee. They lost my business today because they don't shoot straight. All they had to do is say "let's see what we can do" and offer me something similar to the Amazon vendor. I'm happy with my Amazon purchase. It's twice the machine they offered. It can be expanded with a better video card (which they said theirs couldn't probably handle) and for a few bucks more I got a two year full replacement warranty. Want my advice? Great service. I brought in a non-functional 5+ year old desktop hoping I hadn't lost my hard drive and expecting to pay at least $250 for repairs. 2 days later it was fixed for less than $100. They did just what was needed and all it needed was a new graphics card. After I was up and running again I noticed my monitor screen wasn't right. Took my ailing desktop to Trung and crew for replacement of the hard drive. They were able to clone data from the old HDD to a new SSD, making it run like a new computer. They are good at what they do, and will advise you, but more importantly, they will obtain your authorization before proceeding with any work.
