Not going to throw too many daggers here but I can say that a lot of people would in this situation. I'll come out and explain the 3 stars earned... you get a star for being reviewed so that's a gimme, second star is for the front desk guy who was helpful friendly and accommodating. He's doing best with what he has... third star was for the interior of the room and cleanliness and the setup, it's clean good bedding and bathroom is nice. Now on to the weird. Right outside my room is plywood to walk, then gravel, then steps, and a beautiful view of destroyed courtyard and yellow construction tape. It doesn't look like an active construction either, this is abandoned project level looking stuff. Nothing overly dangerous or whatever but surely non walkable and flagged off and this is an eyesore as well as forces you to walk around the back of the property to get out. Second flag here is the doors. They don't automatically lock!! I assume in a hotel that I will shut the door and the key is needed to open it. Well you have to put the key in and lock the deadlock if you want security, so one full day in roaming around thinking all is safe and my busted down room in this abandoned construction site is just open for anyone to grab my stuff. I say it that way because when places look like this, that's when homeless and weirdos roam around looking for open doors. Big bad no no. You need self locking doors please. I would not stay here again because of these items. Also I think it's really terrible that when I'm searching on kayak or other sites and see the hotel, that there is no mention of construction or lack of services or anything. It's just another spot on the list so you just deal with the surprise? Not too happy with the few things but all in all it won't disrupt my stay as it's only one night. I would be super pissed if my mom or relative booked here and found out though. That's when i would be raising some flags. read more

The good: I booked thru the Hotel Tonight app. The price was fair considering the entire area has pretty expensive hotels. It's flat and one story which made it easy to access with our stroller. It's walking distance to all of the major Solvang attractions if you're a tourist just checking out the main downtown area like myself. The bad: It's an old hotel with old fixtures and decor. It's part of the charm but it's something to be aware of. The tub and windows are old too. The interesting: They may have renovated since I last stayed here and every room here looks quite different from one another. read more

Stayed at the M solvang. The Property was cute. The rooms was a pretty big size and seemed pretty clean. I had room 7. Stayed there from Friday to Sunday. Their offices are only open from 930-530 and there is no other help any other times. Friday night hot water ran out during shower. Ok fine, it was late and I just wanted to get ready for bed. Noticed a discolored spot on the ceiling of the shower. Figured it was an old leak that stained the ceiling. Ok Fine. Saturday morning. Brushed teeth and washed face in cold water... hmm.. Ok fine. It's morning brisk, water heater may take a while, people all getting ready at the same time, Fine. Saturday night, got back to room around midnight. Sprinklers were on, flooding the sidewalks and soaking anyone who walks by. Had to walk thru it twice because I left something in the car. Legs and shoes were soaked. OK.....FINE? It was cold and i just wanted a warm quick shower so i could head to bed. Water was ICE cold. Could not shower, had to do a quick rinse of all the important bits because shower was frigid. OK.... wtf... NOT Fine. Sunday morning, I haven't had a full shower now since Friday, so I need a shower. Ran the shower for 8 min, and the water NEVER got warm. I've given up by this time on having a shower. But I notice in the ceiling water stain spot, had a full MUSHROOM growing out of the ceiling. Dead. It's pretty early in the morning, so office was closed. No one to talk to. Couple people outside in the parking lot asking if my water got hot and I told them it didn't. So I left the dang place without speaking a word. 2 stars because the room was clean and big and all in all the property grounds were nice. But I will not be staying here again. read more

For $140 for a Friday night in Solvang, The M Solvang is a sweet deal considering just about anywhere else in town is going to cost $200+ on a weekend. I believe we got the "Apple" room, on the corner of the building. We arrived late after 9pm, so the keys were conveniently left at the office. PROS: -Our clean, spacious room was more like a mini-suite. There was an extra small room connected with chairs...perfect for my wife to do her early morning yoga and me to stay up later before going to bed. -Fridge, Coffee Machine -Quite location away from the main tourist drag -Charming and meticulously well kept gardens and premises. CONS: -None for me, but for the out of shape tourist, the 2 block walk into downtown might be much for your weak body. It might be another 20 years when I visit Solvang again, if The M is still around and in the same great condition I'd happily stay here again. read more

The room itself is nice and quite spacious, the bed itself is average but not on par with beds in hotels I've slept in. The couch in the living room area is not a comfy place to sit in but it can be alleviated using the pillows they offer. Microwave didn't work. Fridge is ok but it had a weird smell coming out of it, so we avoided using it to store leftovers. I had a disappointing experience with the front desk. The gentleman working there seemed indifferent and had a "figure it out yourself" attitude. Additionally, don't count on the 10% offer mentioned here, as he claimed to have no knowledge of Yelp, which was really hard to believe. Overall, while it's a romantic and aesthetically pleasing place to take your significant other, it barely scrapes through as a comfortable hotel to stay in. There are nicer options in Solvang, and you might even get better rates just by looking at the website rather than through Expedia or Hotels.com. read more

This place is 3-4 rating. It's not a fancy place but great for a night or two, very cute and clean, great location. Over all the suite was nicely spaced and roomy for 4 girls, and very clean, even regarding dust, which is often over looked (I'm not usually picky about that and don't hold it against an establishment if it isn't dust free, but it was notable well kept here). We had suite #4 in the front for one night. This was our first time staying here. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again or longer, but I also would not rely on the sofa bed if you needed multiple beds. The bed in the bedroom was comfortable enough and nice pillows. Nothing extravagant but as expected. Though to note, the back board/frame was very squeaky and loose. Getting into bed my friend leaned back and it banged the wall. It startled us and hopefully wasn't too disturbing to our neighbors (sorry to the neighbors!). The pull out sofa bed was not comfortable but I wasn't expecting much. Its also very squeaky, and honesty on par with many other places. If you have a bad/sensitive back, beware. And more than a night or two on the pull out might be not be advisable. As a sofa it was comfortable and the cushions were clean. The bathroom was very clean. The shower was roomy, not mildewy, and even the fixtures were shiny. Idk if they were just new, but that was nice. There was plenty of counter space, and had good lighting. The toiletries were ok and i appreciated the larger bottles instead of the travel sized stuff. I personally also liked the scents. The AC in our room worked well. The kitchenette was clean and in good shape though we only really used the sink and the mini fridge. We did not have any issue with noise on our one night stay, but I imagine if you had inconsiderate neighbors, it could be a problem. We checked in late (can in after 6), so our key and contract with a map was left out for us at the office door. Check out was easy and the lady managing the office at 9am Sunday morning was very sweet. Their office is closed in the evening and there's an emergency number if needed, but no options if you need something like towels or stuff after hours, so keep that in mind. We only had 3 bath towels even for our resv of 4 but this wasn't an issue for us. There is a quaint garden with benches and tables in the front that would be very nice to have little picnic or a personal happy hour before heading out to dinner. Pricing is on par with many other places in Solvang (which over all can be pricy). It's an older place but at least from what I saw, we'll very maintained. read more

We stayed in the sweet pea room and immediately saw ants everywhere in the bathroom but we were so tired we tolerated it. The beds were very uncomfortable but all that aside you may think I am insane for writing this but another guest that stayed in the same room three months prior has the same experience (refer to review from Sarah) that rooms haunted. All night my husband and I experienced very odd things I don't wish to explain which made us want to leave around 3am but we tolerated it and left first thing in the morning. Believe in that stuff or not regardless it's not worth staying here mainly for how dirty, uncomfortable, and ant filled it was which is a shame because it had potential. read more

The reasons for this amazing five-star review I am giving this hotel were how the beds were comfortable. Although there were 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids) we still managed. I slept on the couch bed which for a couch, was very comfortable and I slept like a baby. The main bed was so good evening though I wasn't able to sleep in it. The bathroom was so clean, nice, and big that you could probably fit another bedroom in it. There was also a roof room which was room 16. If I ever stay at this hotel again I would want to check that room out. The only thing that I was pretty sad about was that the TVs didn't have Disney or hulu. They instead had numbers channels but there was no problem since we were still able to watch movies like Moana, Fast and Furious, and The Grinch. Overall our 3-day experience was a great one. We stayed at The M Solvang on our way up North for just 1 night. The room looked very different online then in person so that was very disappointing for a very pricey room. The bed was springy and uncomfortable so we didn't sleep much and then we were woken up at 7:30 am by a little kid bouncing a basketball outside our window for 2 solid hours. Im sure that the M staff heard it but nothing was done about it. Shame on the parents for putting the whole M Solvang on an alarm clock while on vacation and celebrating the 4th of July. Booked a room here for 4 nights about a month in advance. Paid a much higher price per night plus tax and fees. The day of arrival I checked the price on line and it was about half the price per night including tax and fees. When I asked if they would credit me the difference I was told no. So I feel they are more about profit than they are about customer service. Also their website says they have ceiling fans and they didn't. Their website also says they have vending machines and they didn't. Needless to say I will not stay here again and I will not ever use Expedia or Hotels.com to book any type of trip. The M Solvang said I had to talk to Expedia about an adjustment and Expedia said it was up to The M Solvang and The M Solvang said no. Also the bed was terrible I couldn't wait to go home and sleep in a comfortable bed. read more

Came here to stay for 1 night while visiting Solvang. The hotel allowed dogs at an extra $25 fee, that is why we chose this place among others. The room wasn't ready when we arrived unfortunately. We had to wait til 3pm for our room which is pretty late. The property itself is really nice with a lot of plants, benches and fountains. The room was clean and put together. The hotel itself is on the older side so don't expect anything modern. Parking was easy and free. Check in and check out was also super easy. The room came with a bunch of towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, hair dryer, working tv, fan and AC. I would stay here again. read more

We really enjoyed our one night stay here. It's very close to downtown and it has a decent size parking lot. It's very charming, clean and comfortable. Our room had a small fridge and coffee maker. They provide enough coffee for two pots or 4 cups of coffee. They have a filtered water station and an ice maker. The customer service was quite good but because it's so small there isn't a front desk and they are not on the clock 24/7. If you check in after hours they leave your keys for you in a box outside the office. It wasn't open yet but looks like they will soon be able to serve alcohol. Overall this hotel was great for the price point. read more

I requested a handicap accessible room. The room only had the handicap bars in the bathroom. The bathroom had a tub with no bench sitting and no handheld showerhead. The room was also small. It made it difficult to use my walker. No coffeemaker and no refrigerator. read more

For the price I guess you get what you paid for. We werent able to check in for almost an hour after the check in time. When we finally went in the floors were soaked with cleaner. We opened the windows trying to help the strong cleaner smell but not all the windows worked. The fan didnt turn off in the room and the lights in it didnt work. We were freezing all night. The staff was kind and helpful when we asked for more blankets. But I wouldnt suggest this spot unless you really arent going to be in the room much. read more

The M Hotel Solvang is a quaint hotel fitting into the atmosphere of beautiful Solvang. The room was clean with tile floors and access to a lovely backyard courtyard. The first impression was the strong cleaner smell coming from the room that never went away from the time we stepped in to checkout. It was overpowering and saturated my clothes and belongings. The bathroom was neat with the requisite towels, toiletries and blow dryer but the showerhead kept falling off because of the bad design of the shower tall itself (door colliding with showerhead) The back yard area was delightful with patio furniture to relax on in a green lawn expanse. The cutest motel! We really enjoyed our stay and we were comfortable. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and the bathrooms were clean. There's a beautiful garden out back with seating to enjoy. The woman who checked us in was very friendly and welcoming. The price per night is quite steep but it's honestly cheaper compared to places nearby and it seems to be the standard on weekends where the entire town gets booked up. I hate writing bad reviews- however I would have appreciated an honest review myself before booking and would have loved to stay somewhere else. I'm sure this was a lovely hotel years ago, but it's been well used since. We ended up leaving after the first night without getting a refund for night 2 and I wouldn't stay here again. The rooms were very rundown, the beds were super old and really uncomfortable, and the place just had an old (and kinda gross & funky) feeling to it. I do think housekeeping is doing the best they can do with what they're given to work with and the gardens were beautiful! I think if these rooms were closer to the $100-$140 range that would be a more appropriate rate for what you're getting. read more

Let me start by saying we had an issue at check in that was quickly resolved. The website said there was a microwave and there wasn't. I was traveling with my sister who is recovering from cancer and has to be careful with diet so we brought food for her. But a call to the office and they changed rooms for us. I understand that things have to change due to Covid. But there were a few things I was disappointed in. First no one there to check you in. There's an envelope with your name clearly written on the outside visible to other guests checking in with your room info and keys. I picked what I thought was a locally owned hotel and had hoped to be able to speak to someone to get some ideas for the area. Second , no breakfast at all. Not even a wrapped Danish or a piece of wrapped fruit. Third no housekeeping unless requested. when I'm paying a fair price to enjoy a trip.to a hotel I like to be pampered a bit and not feel like I'm putting someone out. Third there was a dirty food container in the television cabinet. (Probably still there I didn't want to touch it) I'm not sure if I would stay again or recommend it to anyone else. The room they put us in (the San Francisco room #22) did not look like the pictures of the rooms advertised. Plain and not what you expect for a Solvang hotel. The floors were dirty, cement tiles. I had to clean my and my toddlers feet off before we went to bed. The white, plain walls were stained with mis-matchy art. A tiny closet and no vanity space in the bathroom. I would not recommend this place and will not be returning. read more

Wonderful place to stay in Solvang! It is central enough where you can walk everywhere, but also off the beaten path for a quiet experience. The rooms are cozy and nice. My bad for booking thanksgiving weekend during a pandemic. Of course the room rates were EXTREMELY over inflated and that's what you get booking maybe I was expecting too much given the cost. Continental breakfast has been canceled due to covid. There is no contact (good thing) with reception, just an envelope with your name and key. The room was sprayed with a heavily scented sanitizer? Air freshener? Opening windows did not help and with a no vacancy hotel I didn't know what other option there could be I'm pretty sensitive to perfumes, so that was my biggest complaint next to no good coffee in the morning. If I only paid $80 I wouldn't have bothered writing this review, but I paid 4 times that amount due to the holiday weekend. read more

This is a case where 0 stars should be an option. This is a $50 per night divey motel masquerading as a different class of place. Right off the bat we were in room 17, one of only 2 cabins with a second story above it. Cabin 16s entrance is right above our bed. So as those inconsiderate pricks come and go at 10pm, midnight, 2am; you hear every door open and close, every step, etc. Next no housekeeping of rooms during CoVid, but do they stock extra anything for a 3 night stay-Nope. When you go to the front desk to ask for more, the worker acts is if my request is an inconvenience and sends me looking for a maid to fulfill my request. The room itself seems nice at first, until you realize many of the wall switches and all the timers don't work. Then you figure out some light fixtures are missing, some are dangerously loose, and another one doesn't seem to work. The only thing that seemed to work well was the instant fireplace, though again the timer doesn't, and the jacuzzi and jets; though the tub itself looked hideous with paint cracks and chips and obvious poor patch jobs. What takes the cake was the cloth shower mat. Yes, cloth. Not an $8 rubber mat found at every store that cleans easily, an absorbable always wet, likely filled with bacteria cloth mush shower mat. One of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. So again, if you can get a rate of $50, might be worth a stop. But as long as they are maintained worse than your standard highway truck stop motel 6, and charging as if they are a high end Hilton; hard pass. read more

There's a very cute B&B in Nipomo that's only about a half hour up the road that I'd hugely recommend that's about half the price of this place. Not worth the price. Price is on the higher end for a place I'd say at best is a 2 star inn. I stayed in room 11, it's a king bed, fireplace and private parking right outside. The bed is uncomfortable and the fireplace did not work. An employee came to the room twice to try to make it work and ended up telling me to just use the heater. The heater is an old school wall unit that works horribly. It' was impossible to control the temperature in the room. We woke up to turn it on and off every few hours. The location is good. It was a short walk to the middle of town. Fun place to visit. I won't be staying here again. read more

I had reservations here this past weekend. Their English garden in the back was the best part of The M. It was beautiful and very relaxing. Cleanliness is a whole different story. I have a feeling our sheets were not replaced from their previous guests. As you can see on the picture, I found plenty of small black trash all over the bed and underneath the quilt. Once I removed the comforter, I noticed hair. All types of hair . The bed was hard and uncomfortable. Our mini fridge didn't work, but was offered access to the fridge in their cafeteria. The restroom appeared to be clean, but there was tape-like residue left on the toilet seat cover. I wish I would have read Yelp reviews prior to our stay. read more

My husband and I went up to the Santa Ynez for a couple days to wine taste. We stayed in Room 6 at The M Solvang; it was quite disappointing. The front room was little more than furniture storage: a sofa, a large wood table with a TV, a smaller table with coffee making accessories a small fridge with a small microwave on top. It was musty and hot and the bedroom air conditioner was no help in cooling it off. No effort made to feel comfortable or finished. The air conditioner was super noisy and the shower/tub faucet loudly streamed all night. We let the lady at the front desk know but all she did was pull up the valve to the shower mode which caused a water mess on the floor when we returned to the room after dinner. The expected two bottles of gratis water were not left in the room, but a tacky tip envelope from housekeeping was. As I expect to be able to actually sleep in a hotel room, I will not be returning. read more
