We were unfortunate enough to arrive at the breakfast area at 10 AM on a Saturday to find that breakfast was over and it was a race between us of the staff to fill our plates as they were taking everything away. They begrudgingly gave us bread and butter and a few other items but make sure you fet there on time. We hadn't been able to call down to the lobby to confirm the breakfast times because the phone in our room was just a prop with no cord and no connection. we tried calling the front desk, but there was no answer. That being said, the rest of the staff were very friendly. I would be grumpy if someone came to eat while I was trying to clean up, too. All in all, this property is to be expected for a middle of the road hotel where you don't stay long and get your points on for staying there.

We drove right into the free parking lot out front and walked into our room. Easy peasy. A great central location where you can walk to everything! Clean, very Scandinavian modern furnishings, a big bathroom with high end toiletries (hand wash, lotion at the sink; shampoo, conditioner, and body wash pumps in the large shower). I liked the shower because it was a big walk-in and the floor was angled enough that it didn't flood the rest of the bathroom. A little slippery but there was a suction nonslip mat. Basic cotton towels and wash cloths. Mini fridge was high-end with an actual freezer with four silicon ice cube trays. Microwave, iron and mini board. Plenty of hangers (6). Lots of hooks in the room in addition to closet rod. Coffee station had a kettle with instant coffee and tea bags plus vanilla creamers. We bought our breakfast pastries and real coffee across the street at Olsen's Bakery. The king (low) platform bed was great medium-firm and seemed extra large with quality cotton sheets, four king pillows, and an extra Danish flag blanket. There's not a real desk but the front wall facing the windows has a wooden counter at desk-height with two chairs, bigger than an actual desk. Windows open with screens. Plenty of outlets and a multi-charger strip on one of the two bedside tables. WiFi was strong enough for a Zoom call. Modern A/C wall unit has remote and worked well. No pool or hot tub but a cute Astro-turf lawn across the parking lot with a little gazebo, a few chairs and a table, plus a couple of high end cushioned loungers in the sun. This property is owned by a company that also owns a few other cute CA boutique-y refabbed motels, including the Alamo in nearby Los Alamos. I never needed to go into the lobby but they had extended office hours and were very friendly when I called ahead. There's also a 24-hour number to call if you need help after hours. The streets roll up around 8pm but it's a great time to wander safely with all the twinkle lights, fun architecture, and no people. The Solvang Brewing Company across the street stays open later and there's a convenience store a few doors down that's open until 10pm for adult bevvies, ice cream, snacks. Checkout is 11:00am and there was no extending it due to a shortage of cleaning staff. I would absolutely recommend this property (if it meets your needs) for location, cuteness, comfort, and authentic Danish vibe.

It wasn't really the hotel's fault, but they made the situation much worse by not accepting the virtual credit card information at the front desk, and I wasted about 40 minutes dealing with payment issues--after a long day of traveling and working. The hotel room had no closet or hangers for shirts, and they didn't provide any bag for laundry. On the morning of checkout, the housekeeping lady was making obnoxiously loud noises outside my room, e.g., banging on the wall. I've had issues with housekeeping trying to hurry you up and get you to leave sooner, even though checkout time is 11am, but this one was the worst so far. So rude and unprofessional. And they had the audacity to leave a card in the room with a QR code to ask for a tip. I tore up the card and threw it in the trash for her to see.

"Gee, I could have really used one more night" Or Let out the exaggerated (Ughh)... "I don't want to go back to work tomorrow, I wish we could just extend our trip by just one more day" Well... On a recent trip with my family, We INTENTIONALLY did just that. My wife booked us a 2 night stay in Paso Robles at a beautiful boutique style/chain hotel. (The Ava Hotel in Paso) (Check out my review for the deets) Usually, when we do these short, weekend trips, I work up until the day of our trip and then go back the very next day once we return... But, NOT THIS TIME! Yeah, This time, my wife intentionally told me, let's book one more night on the way home from our trip in Paso just to break up the drive home and enjoy one more day off of work and time with the fam. Yes, the cute, quaint town of Solvang is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway or even just for a one night stay like we did. Of course, my wife, the Queen of finding the best places to stay/eat... (AND I AM THE ONE WHO IS THE "ELITE" haha) booked us a room at the Landsby hotel and it was nothing short of a treat. Here's why: The Landsby is more than just a room... Inside of a hotel... Located in the heart of this Danish town known as: SOLVANG It wasn't just, "let's build a hotel where the people can stay and explore the town while they are here". At least that's not the impression it gave me! Instead, The Landsby has a Charm about, it has Character and most of all it gives you the impression that you are in a modern-day Dutch village. But one of my favorite parts.... The Room Key, keyword, "KEY" Yeah! The room key is an actual Key!!! A metal, lock and key, just like the good 'ol days! Ain't no digital, pre-programmed, modern day, technologically advanced system like every other hotel does it.... And I liked it! And to match the old school style key... The t.v is in black and white, the internet is run on dial up and the telephone is a rotary dial..... JUST KIDDING!!!! But wouldn't that be cool! Aside from the small town European vibe that the exterior of the building gives you, once you step inside both the hotel and then your room, you are immediately transported to a place that feels welcoming, familiar and most of all comfortable. Because this was a short stay (just a one nighter) we didn't take advantage of the amenities like we normally do, but next time we will. A lobby bar (our favorite place to check out), an onsite restaurant (Mad & Vin which loos really good), an outdoor courtyard to sit and relax, and complimentary cruiser bikes to explore the town. The location couldn't be better, right in the heart of town and close to everything. My only downside was a very loud neighbor that disrupted my first night. That said, the staff was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make sure the rest of my stay was peaceful and enjoyable. Overall, I'm really glad I stayed here and would absolutely come back for another Solvang trip.

Not the prettiest or newest but definitely good for last minute. Had our truck loaded with a banshee and originally had an upstairs room, when the lady seen we had our truck loaded immediately came outside before we even got our things down and switched us to a downstairs room right in front of our parked truck, without us even having to ask.
