I've been coming here for quite a while now after I had my final soggy burrito at Saritas. I must say that this is one of favorite California style Mexican places to eat. They're always very quick with service and their salsas are always great. The carnitas has changed a little as I'm guessing they have a new cook working. I wasn't going to write a review until my friend told me i should in future for other yelpers. So my condolences for not providing a picture of the mess i received. It was late, i just wanted to get a quick little something before coming home. I ordered 2 Shrimp Tacos (w. no Pico De Gallo) and i made it a combo (Rice & Beans) and asked for sauce on the side. When i arrived home, i noticed no sauce on the side, but this weird red sauce in the tacos (Not pico de gallo). I said fine w/e i can eat it still. There was only 1 tiny slice of lime, not 2. I said fine w/e again. I took a bite from my first taco and noticed it was a Fish Taco instead. So i looked at the other one, and it was a Shrimp Taco. I ordered 1 thing, not two. I also noticed a full leaf in my food. I said okay dinner was ruined, so i took my plate and headed back for a refund or them to make me what i ordered. When i arrived i let them know about what happened, their manager (i'm assuming) came by a few minutes later and he explained to me how there isn't Shrimp Tacos on the menu and that the shrimp is a little expensive so he can only put a few shrimp in a taco. But why give me a Fish Taco + a Shrimp taco??? I actually don't understand why they would let me order it if it's an issue making me drive home and having to come back. Anyways, so i asked if they can remake the food, and he said i'd have to pay more money. For what, their mistake? I wanted to pay for my food, and one time only with no issues. Instead, i got refunded. Thankfully Sarita's is across the street. Keep in mind this is not the first mistake they've had with me. Theres been several in the past but i always give places a try. I've always gon too and suggested Santanas to friends local and especially from ot of town. And I understand the price of meat has gone up. But before fore $4.50 you could get a carne asada burrito so plump it would barely fit in your hand. Now it is 8.95 and looks more like a flauta and just folds over on itself if your not careful how u hold it!!!! Twice the price half the meat!!!!! Also guacamole is all watered down. My husband said he drove by this place and saw a picture of some delicious looking grilled fish burrito in the window. I told him "don't even think about it, it's just a picture, just go to Sarita's and ask them to grill your fish burrito." Clearly, this didn't happen because we ended up at this place. Upon arrival you will get this overwhelming eerie feeling like you are entering the twilight zone. The carne asada was weird, the flauta's were pathetic, fish burrito with hardly no fish in it and the list can go on, overall everything was pretty much disgusting for lack of a better word. They need to readjust their drive thru menu prices. I drove thru there early this morning and ordered a California burrito.and a large soda. The menu said $7 for the burrito and $2.50 for the soda. When I went to the window to pay he said it was $12.30. I thought maybe he put guacamole and sour cream on it. So I paid it. WRONG. It was the crappiest tasting burrito I've had in a long time. Barely any cheese but alot of dried out carne asada and fries. Their food is normally good. Big time disappointed! They actually put a "Tip cup" on the drive thru ledge. Two thumbs down! read more

I've been to quite a few taco shops being born and raised in San Diego and they are very few that I won't go back to; Santana's is one of them. I've been to this location 3 times and every time I've been extremely disappointed. The food quality is mediocre and the portion size leaves you asking "where's the rest of my meal?" I've ordered the carne asada fries, California burrito and fish burrito from here; all items I consider San Diego staples for a taco shop. Aside from the food, I judge a taco shop off of their hot sauce and there isn't a single one here that I enjoy. Lupita needs an attitude adjustment! This place used to be good but the poor service is too terrible lately. The lady working the counter barely looks at you or greets you. I love your quesadillas, but your sauces were off today. I usually get the brown/green one but today it was dark red and not the same, also had a strange taste so I tried the red one and it had a fishy taste. Not having good salsa really put a dent in dinner. Hopefully you can fix your salsa issue because without it, not really worth it. read more

I used to like this place a lot more back in the day. I would literally come here almost everynight to get carne asada fries after a night of drinking and ask for a bazillion hot sauces... it was always the same chick workin who would fill up an entire paper bag with 15/20 of which I would use every one. Over the past year or two though it seems like a revolving door of new employees who aren't nearly as cool. The food portions have gotten smaller too... I wish I had a picture of the chorizo burrito I ordered fairly recently, it was about the size of a bean and cheese from Taco Bell. I do like the assortment of hot sauce however and the 24 hour drive through. Their fries could use an extra 30 seconds in the frier. read more

I'm sorry but this restaurant (or maybe location) has been going downhill in the quality of their food over the past couple of years. I first started coming here about 10 years ago and I used to always give HIGH praise but lately, moreso over the past 2 years it's gotten bad. I CANNOT put my finger on it but even the seasoning and/or freshness of the meat has become questionable. I used to laugh when they would ask if I wanted "guacamole Americana o Mejicana", now I'd love it if they simply had a GOOD guacamole. Period. I don' t understand how anyone can make muchless sell to the public carne asada fries with fries that have been cooked in not-so-fresh oil but that are kept stacked in a big stainless steel bowl. You can see them from the drive-thru window, gross. They make the fries and just dump them in the bowl and they SIT there until someone orders a California Burrito or Carne Asada fries which I know they've not been selling as high a volume as before. I know a group of kids that would go at least 2 or 3 times a week for both of those. Lol. I dunno I wish they would get it back together. I remember how I used to joke (and still do) about Cotija's that just opened down the street from Santana's a few years ago because they were NEVER BUSY! Still today I RARELY see ANY cars in the drivethru. As for the parking lot it's NEVER full. IF Santana's keeps up the route they are going Cotija's might just start getting more business. read more

COLD!! even the meat! and they give us the wrong colored salsa like 70% of the time which also ruined our meal. I now park and walk in to the place down the street. Not only does Santana's have great food, but they have the best assortment of hot sauces inside. When you go through the drive-thru, you get your choice of "red" or "green", but if you go inside they have about 6 or 7 different hot sauces in addition to hot carrots, jalapenos and cilantro/onion. Their Pollo Asado Mini Tacos are awesome, as well as their Machaca Burritos. Last time I went inside, the guy at the counter was super friendly and helpful too, which is always nice. read more

I've been going to this taco shop for a couple of years now. I'm finally admitting this place has definitely gone down hill. In the beginning, everything was yummy! I'd order rolled tacos, california burrito or carne asada fries. I gotta say, yes everything is greasy and now tasteless. They are soooo inconsistent, it's ridiculous. On a good day, you can get the best mexican food in Spring Valley from this place... it's just always a 50/50 chance your food will meet your expectations.I'm guessing what keeps me coming back for this gamble, is I have yet to know of a better taco shop. I hope you know the basics in speaking Spanish too because that's where the order gets confusing. I had the quesadilla with pollo asado, guacamole and sour cream. The quesadilla was very tasty with just the right mix of ingredients. I added what I think was their smoked chipotle sauce which was a good mix of flavor and heat. The seating area was at a basic level of clean, but not as clean as it could have been. The food is good... but make sure you double check to make sure your order is correct! The drive thru customer service is horrible. The girl that works the window is always very rude and ALWAYS messes up our orders somehow. Missing food and/or drinks, food prepared incorrectly, ect.
