I have said this before. Being in Southern San Diego we are just spoiled when it comes to Mexican cuisine. We have so many taco shops in the area. So many that they even outnumber 7-11's. So we have a lot of options. Rambertos is a taco shop that has been in the Spring Valley area very early on. It has lasted the test of time. Since then years later, a Jack In The Box was built next to it and after that just recently a Yoshinoya on the other side. One of the reasons Rambertos has lasted so long is the consistent tasting food. The quality control is very good. Right now it's my family's go to taco shop. With a large menu, there are a lot of choices to pick from. Burritos, tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, sopas and carne asada nachos are among the things you can order. Early morning to late night; you don't even have to leave your car. Just use the drive thru window. With so many taco shops around. What makes Rambertos so special? Well first they have been here for years. So they have to be doing something right. With so many changes all around. Rambertos still remains a constant. Secondly, the taco shop serves some of the best Mexican cuisine in the Valley. Thirdly, with everything from gas to groceries. Everything is expensive. Rambertos is affordable and won't break the bank. So support local businesses especially the good ones. Rambertos is exceptional. read more

I've had the food here before it's OK. It's nothing great. But it's OK. However, this evening was quite surprising to me. A carne asada burrito and a cheese quesadilla cost me $30. That is expensive. I usually pay about $30 when I do Delivery. But this was a big disappointment. Not sure that I'll frequent this Taco shop in the future. In addition, they charged me for using my debit card. I went to this place for the first time tonight. I ordered a carnitas flying saucer. The carnitas have no flavor, they taste like old oil, the other toppings are regular. Their salsa is basic not much flavor to it. The one thing I was flabbergasted about was, I ordered a side of rice, they gave me a large sauce cup of rice for $2.99. My whole meal was about $20. I can here to get Carter asada fries came and and was started eat and realized that a lotta my fries where really burnt I called to complain to tell them the lady to me to come back and they will make new ones and when I got there they were rude and when they looked at the phrase, they asked for a receipt and I told them I didn't have it. They said since I ate half of the meat, they can make me a burrito. There was a price difference, but didn't give me my change back. I'm so sad to give this place less than 5 stars because they used to be my favorite late night taco shop but they switched their fries from thin cut to thick cut and fries were soggy. They charge for additional salsas and limes but it's hard out here so I understand. I still gave 4 stars because they're open 24-hours, the food was piping hot, and their salsa verde was really good. I ordered a shrimp burrito and asked for sour cream and cheese on it. The price on the menu is $14.99 for that burrito. So when they game me a total of $22 i was a bit thrown off, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I figured the quality might be worth it. I was so wrong. To begin $2.99 for sour cream and another $2.99 for cheese is ridiculous but to get a half A$$ed wrapped burrito that could barely be held to eat make it a 2 star. It was as if the burrito was made and then unwrapped to add the cheese and sour cream. To make things worse I asked for red and green salsa, I figured id get 2 of each. I was wrong. they gave me three, 2 red and 1 green. The worst part of it all is the fact that it was the first time I have ever been able to count the shrimp as I was eating, there was only a total of 8 shrimp. I'm Not sure how they are still in business. I ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito and it was $10.76 . Let me explain.... My chorizo looked and tasted like dried up ground beef. It was just eggs and whatever this excuse for meat was. Nothing else. No real flavors. I hate giving bad reviews, literally, hate it! So, I will start with something positive - the rolled tacos were cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, that's just about it. I requested two orders of three (3) rolled tacos with cheese but didn't want the cheese. According to the current menu, this item is $3.99 each. The lady asked if I wanted cheese and guacamole. This addition changes the order and is now $4.99 each. At first, I agreed to the guacamole but, on the side, but still refused cheese. Then I changed my mind and returned to my original order of plain rolled tacos - no cheese or guacamole. The woman asked very sharply, "You just want plain?" I responded, "Yes, plain, no cheese." She asked again, with more attitude, and I answered her again the same way. Why is she making a judgement call on how I order rolled tacos? Clearly, she did because I was charged the price for the rolled tacos with cheese AND guacamole - $4.99 - not the $3.99, with cheese only (and I didn't get the cheese!). When I questioned it, she treated me like I was stupid and told me the price didn't include sales tax. Really? The menu, receipt, and pictures of the food are proof I wasn't charged accurately. I wasn't treated fairly nor was I treated well. My family has spent untold amounts of money there over the decades. This is one small order - and the $2 plus tax difference is not a ton of money - but it could make a huge difference to someone else. Decided to stop by RAMBERTO'S TACO SHOP after a long drive. Beforehand we checked RAMBERTO'S TACO SHOP menu to see if we liked how they prepared carne asada fries and cali burritos. We paid 14.99 for fries 10.99 for a burrito. Our food didn't come as described. I may be hangry right now, but for taco shop prices like this I'm pretty disappointed. The cali burrito was missing sour cream and avocado. It was only carne asada, cheese, fries. :( Carne asada fries was missing sour cream and had a sprinkle of cheese on the corner. :( We were hungry and had a far drive back so dealt with it, and drenched our food in mediocre salsa. Usually a miss with this place. They are either always closed for "cleaning" or have a very bad attitude. I arrived at the drive thru with no cars in front or behind me and the lady at the speaker expected me to order as soon as I got there without a chance to look at the menu and kept rushing me. She also didn't allow me to substitute anything. I was willing to pay extra for substituting carne asada for chicken. Horrible service. First of all this place does not deserve the bad rating it has. I come here at least once a month for their breakfast burritos and they are always so delicious. It's an amazing size burrito for 9.99, while other places like lolita's charges like 20 dollars for half the size and not as much volume. These burritos are freshly made too and you can tell, not greasy and nasty at all. When i come the service is always fast, i never wait more then 12 mins. I ordered 3 burritos today and i waited 7 mins max. I put my family on because of the price and the size and how fresh it is, not from other taco shops or other burrito joints where it's so greasy and small. I always see the same lady helping me and she's always smiling at me and greeting me with a smile. Like i said this place doesn't deserve the hate it gets, it's my favorite burrito place. Kept coming here during quarantine since they didn't change their hours. Good food and friendly people. My favorite is the torta de carnitas. It usually comes with a lot of meat, pico de Gallo and lettuce, but I get no pico and instead cheese. Their carne asada is also good. read more
