I LOVE this place! My girls have been coming here since, well, forever!!! They've always felt comfortable in the chair, and all the staff has been great. Today, my oldest (6) went in for her first filling, and everything went great! They originally recommended sedation, but I asked for an alternative and they allowed me to choose nitrous (laughing gas) for her instead. At first, she was really struggling when they applied the sealants (her hands kept creeping up toward her mouth and she was having a hard time following directions), and I thought for sure I'd made the wrong decision. But once nitrous entered the picture, it was smooth sailing. The dentist (and I can't for the life of me remember her name) talked my daughter through the whole process and all her instruments had cutesy names to help my daughter feel at ease. This place is amazing! I have a huge fear of dentist so I have to try really hard to feel comfortable bringing my kids in and not projecting my fear on to them. The staff and the doctors here made it so easy for me. They were very patient with my millions of questions and requests and were happy to accommodate wherever they could. Because of this place my kids have had amazing experiences to lay the groundwork for their dental in the future. Something that I did not personally have, and I'm so grateful for! read more

My Son smashed his face at school and cracked his front tooth. The office got me in right away and he was good as new within 48 hours of the accident. The office is relaxing and kid friendly and Dr. Hope Nguyen is the best! We live in Mission Valley and have no problem driving out to Santee to get great dental care! My daughter previously had a traumatic dental experience with a male dentist. I asked my friends if they knew of a great female dentist and Santee Children's Dentistry was recommended! I am so pleased with the entire staff and of course the 2 female dentists we have seen. My daughter is still nervous to go to the dentist but is no longer terrified to go because she really likes the dentists here. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! read more

My 3 year old twins see Dr. Andrew. They have been going to Santee Children's Dentistry since they were 18 months old. The staff is always so friendly, patient and accommodating... my sons are very comfortable with them. The waiting area has magazines to read for the adults along with a play area with some toys and a tv that always has a movie on for the kids. We never had to wait long whenever we have appointments. In the back area where they do teeth cleaning there are tv screens on the ceiling above every station so the kids can lie down, relax and watch tv while the dental assistants do their work. The main reason I love SCD is they welcome me to be in the back area with my sons. At the end of every cleaning my sons get goodie bags with toothbrushes, floss and stickers to take home. I can honestly say my kids enjoy coming here. read more

I highly recommend This child friendly dentist office. My child has cerebral palsy and has a very sensitive mouth. Dr. Hope is by far the most patient, kind and thorough dentist who has ever worked on my son. She took her time explaining to him exactly what she was going to do step by step and let him touch the equipment so he was not scared. She was able to do a cavity filling without any anesthesia, unlike his last traumatic visit to Super Dentists. Really, the whole staff is friendly and accommodating but Dr. hope is an angel. read more

Dr. Hope and her staff are awesome! Last review was based on how unprofessional the hygienist were, but have not dealt nor seen her since. The atmosphere is kid friendly, staff are courteous-they truly enjoy their job, which is important specially if their dealing with children. Front office ladies are also great, they give courtesy reminders of appointments and are very professional. Will definitely keep my kids here for so long as we're in the area. read more

I have been taking my daughters to see Dr. Hope for the past 6 years. We live 25 minutes away from the office and it is absolutely worth the drive! My children are VERY nervous about doctor and dental appointments. It is sometimes a struggle just to get them into the car. The staff and Dr. Hope understand my kids' anxiety. They are calm and patient with my girls. They take their time, talk with them about what they are going to do (and distract them by chatting about my girls' interests) as they get the work done. My daughters know that Dr. Hope and her staff care about them. Once my 5 year old was too frightened to have her x-rays completed. Nothing we tried worked. Dr, Hope actually sat my child in her lap and we were able to have her mouth completely x-rayed. I don't know any other dentist who would do that. I have only had positive interactions with the receptionist. And I am surprised to read the other reviews that have had bad experiences. I always receive prompt, courteous service. My calls are always returned. Appointments are always kept. And we are seen in a timely manner. She knows my kids and I are stressed out during appointments (and especially during treatments), and her calm caring attention is well appreciated. There are so many dentists out there, but we choose to drive all the way to Santee because we know our children's teeth and hearts will be well cared for. read more

This place was awesome . Our very first visit and then amazed me. Very prompt and on time. They dental assistant we had was amazing and very good, she kept making sure my son was okay and talking to him. The Doctor was wonderful , very informational and great judgement . I have to disagree with the last post. I have taken my kids to Dr. Hope for years. I have three kids, ages ranging from 5 years to 6 months. Both my sons have had the best care from Dr. Hope and her staff. Not only is the staff super friendly and helpful, but they comforted my children before Dr. Hope came in to meet them. When my sons were examined, Dr. Hope was kind, reassuring, and she went out of her way to relate to my boys. My children are NOT calm kids. They are excitable children, but Dr. Hope was able to talk to them by finding their interests and then conversing with them so that they were comfortable BEFORE she examined them. I will continue to take my kids to Dr. Hope because I know she DOES provide the best dental care for children. read more

From reading other reviews, it seems like this Children's dentist is not equip to handle unique situations. My child is terrified of dentists and needed some work done, they suggested IV sedation, which I agree with. BUT while my child was having a cleaning the dentist made her feel very uncomfortable and told her to stop because she was "scaring the other children" What about my scared child!! Nothing was done to make my child feel less scared! And to top it off, I've been waiting 3 months for them to get back to me with questions I had about the procedure and to schedule our appointment....3 months!!! And I still have unanswered questions, I do not feel like my child was treated fairly and I definitely don't feel like we received the customer service we deserve. If your child has reservations about dentists, DON'T go here. read more

I loved it there, the staff and dentist are so nice. It was our first time there our appointment was at 12:30 we got there at 11:30 and they saw us right away. My son was running all over the place but the staff was so nice they helped me try to keep him contained lol (he's 16months) My daughter was a little scared but they made it a pleasant experience and now she asks me if we can come here every day. read more

I have taken my daughter for several years and they have always been wonderful. Starting at three years old she was happy to go back into the dentist office by herself for check-ups and when she had to unfortunately have a filling they made it as easy on her as possible. She actually looks forward to going to the dentist. As a Pediatric Dentist, my insurance considers this a "specialist" so unfortunately it costs me more out-of-pocket, but they have always been great about explaining all the costs to me and working with me for the most economical solution. read more

The first couple times I came to this office the front desk manager was very rude. Then she continued to bill my insurance incorrectly. The office has changed their front desk staff and they were great the last time we went in. We love the dentist and the hygienists. I came here as a suggestion from another yelper, and I'm glad. I have a 2 year old and an 11 with Autism. She doesn't like the dentist and now that she has braces, it makes everything more difficult! She also had a Herbst appliance which made it hard to reach the back molars and she got two tiny cavities. I wish the orthodontist had suggested sealants before getting it on, but too late now. These are her first ever cavities and her first ever real dental work not under anesthesia! Well, the Herbst came off and they were able to get her to sit and open her mouth long enough to do sealants and one of the cavities! When they asked me back she was fine, not happy, but fine. You hear all these horror stores about dentists, this doesn't apply here. I'm extremely happy with this place and will continue to come back! read more

Wow what a nice place. Clean, peaceful, children friendly, educated, everything you could ask for in a childrens dental office. We didn't wait long at all. All of the staff was extremely friendly. The dentist was amazing. My son has a major fear of dentist and he actually told me this place made him feel calm. The video games after the xrays are a genius set up. Had a great experience except for just one time. My daughter wasn't ready for the dentist. She was kicking and screaming and I saw staff and doctor being annoyed. Who wouldn't? But this is a place where you should show that you got it handled. I forgot the name of the doctor. But I remember he was a male (Asian). I told him she wasn't ready because she was throwing a temper tantrum. She was a toddler at the time. He insisted it was fine. But she was traumatized for a while after that day. There's a difference between her needing a regular check up that day and him wanting to get paid the full service for that day. I felt that he just wanted to get paid for the service. I was so upset. The reason I'm giving this place a 4 star is because my other experiences with out him. After that experience, the staff has been more friendly and I haven't seen him there again. read more

Terrible experience! My daughter was uncomfortable from the moment we walked in - and rightfully so. After moving during the first x-ray (she didn't know better), the lady yelled at her, which made my daughter shut down and not want to let them take any more x-rays. This wasn't a huge deal, we moved on, and she was completely fine letting them clean and examine her teeth. After looking at my daughter's teeth, the dentist very rudely told me that my daughter had some cavities and needed A LOT of teeth pulled. She told me that my daughter would have to be put under IV anesthesia for the procedure, since she's "clearly uncooperative". She also made sure to tell me (without asking any questions about my daughter's diet or lifestyle) that I need to start limiting how much juice I give my daughter (thanks lady, but my daughter NEVER has juice, and barely gets anything with sugar beyond fresh fruit). Anyway, I walked up to the front desk feeling like the worst parent in the world, and like I had completely failed my child. Once I got to the front, they showed me the billing estimate, which had a VERY large portion that I was going to be responsible for. When I asked why, they explained that my insurance would not cover any of the anesthesia. I scheduled her for surgery, and left the office feeling like a failure as a parent, terrified at the thought of putting my child under, and mildly freaking out about having to shell out an unexpected $3,500. After getting home that day, I decided to do some research myself, and discovered that my insurance WILL cover the anesthesia. I called the dentist back asking AGAIN if there was any way it could be covered, and they flat out told me no. I then began to explain what I had found from my research, and once they realized that I knew what I was talking about they immediately started back pedaling and suddenly knew exactly what I was talking about. Since it takes time to route the paperwork to have the anesthesia covered by insurance, I asked to push the surgery date back so that I would have everything good to go with the insurance company ahead of time. They were EXTREMELY rude, and told me that I was going to have to pay it anyway, and gave me about 5 million additional excuses in order to try to make me feel like a terrible mother for simply TRYING TO USE THE INSURANCE COVERAGE I PAY FOR. What's the point in paying every month for insurance just to not use it?! On top of all of this, I was still EXTREMELY uncomfortable with the thought of putting my child under anesthesia and letting them go in there (basically blind, because they still had not been able to get x-rays) and just pull all of her teeth out. I finally decided that NO PARENT should have to feel the way that those people made me feel, and decided to try a new dentist here in Santee. I am SO SO THANKFUL that I made that decision, because the experience at the new place has been a complete 180. My daughter let the new place get x-rays NO PROBLEM, the dentist is taking a much more conservative, laid back approach, and my daughter easily let him do the work with some laughing gas and a local anesthetic. I know this was a really long review, but the bottom line is - do yourself a favor and shop around! Don't let these people make you feel like a crappy parent and guilt you into putting your child through a bunch of unnecessary dental work! read more

We first took my son here after he fell and chipped his took when he was one. They made room for him the very next day! They calmed a nervous mother and made my son feel at ease. Flash forward five years later and they are still providing great work. My son was scared of the xray machine and they helped him through that, and making him feel comfortable with everything in-between. They have never made us wait even one minute for our scheduled appt time - huge deal for me. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great children's dentistry. read more

I was worried my son would be completely horrible the first time i took him. He is two years old and he still fights me with brushing his teeth at home 2-3x a day. The staff was nice and even though my son cried because he has serious stranger danger. They did it as quickly as they could, showing him a movie, giving him toys and going above and beyond to distract the fact that a stranger was prying his mouth open.
