Santeria in the Castro was excellent. It works well for both larger groups and smaller, more intimate dinners. The guacamole is a must-order for the table. I had the al pastor tacos, and you could tell the tortillas were homemade. They were a bit thicker than I expected , but in a way that really worked and added to the overall experience. We have found our go to happy hour spot! Santeria has a pretty chill easy vibe. We arrived and the waiter was very helpful. We had the nachos with carnitas. It was well seasoned, plenty of flavor!! That went along with pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream definitely can't forget the red pickled onions. All that yumminess is served on thick crispy corn tortilla chips. The corn esquite did not disappoint. The corn with sour cream, and cheese with a splash of Tajín. The drinks were on point, the margarita was well mixed with balanced flavors, can't go wrong with a beer for me. The one that really got me on the flavor is a shot of "amor" or "love". Amor is really a bartenders choice. He made us a shot mixture of prickly pear juice and tequila with Tajín on the rim of shot. It was so good! Super delicious tortillas, that Im pretty sure were home made or made from scratch. That was by far the best things about the food. I like most of the dishes a lot. I would say out of 5 dishes 3 were amazing and 2 were lack luster. The verde enchiladas(not pictured) fell flat that was the least favorite and we both agreed on that. The cauliflower was a bit soggy & the flavor was ok but the crispy, crunchy factor was not there. The service was very good, friendly and attentive. The queso fundido was rich, gooey, and packed with flavor. For mains, the quesabirria tacos and al pastor tacos were amazing. The quesabirria was crispy on the outside, juicy and cheesy inside. Service was ok, not the friendliest but quick enough. I was hoping to love Santeria, but I'm giving it 3 stars because the food and the price weren't quite there for me. We ordered drinks and the molcajete to share. I was super excited to find a molcajete in the city. It was huge and filled with proteins, and the tortillas were fresh. Unfortunately though, the salsa was very one note and a little too salty and peppery. I was hoping for some greater depth in flavor. I think it needed a little bit of sweetness to balance the taste. Timing was an issue, food was great though, loved the Mexican Wings, meaty and double fried with lots of garlic and just the right amount of heat. Guacamole de Casa was very good with extra puffy vegan chicharrones (both $13) that were a crunchy and savory surprise. Fish tacos ($16) were delicious and filling with generous pieces of battered mahi mahi. BBQ nachos with tequila and chile de Arbol marinated chicken were inhaled in a new land speed record ($14). My wife and I stopped by Santeria for a quick dinner before a concert and it was fantastic. Amazing vibe inside, with beautiful art and comfortable seating. For food, we had the guacamole, tacos, and the quesabirria lamb quesadilla. Everything was scrumptious - the guac tasted fresh, all the sauces and dips were flavorful, the meats were tender and juicy... and then we both had cocktails, which were tasty and VERY STRONG! Came here for happy hour on a Friday to catchup with a friend. First impression entering: love the decor. The decoration, layout, seating really gave the place a nice vibe. I like the tufted seating in particular, gives it a classic feel. We just stuck to the happy hour menu: quesadilla, flautas, nachos, margaritas and beers. For $9 ($5 for beer) it was an incredible valuable. No complaints, everything was tasty. It was pretty empty when we came at 5pm for the happy hour but by the time we left the place seem really packed and a good atmosphere (not a dead restaurant). Super cute spot in the Castro that I recently discovered based on the recommendation of friends- we came here on a Thursday night for dinner and it seemed like there were a lot of reservations, but were able to get a high top table with stools without a wait ~ 630 PM. It seems like they have a great happy hour menu that ends at 6 pm, as well as some taco Tuesday deals! The ambiance was top notch, and this is a great spot for a date! Regarding the food: The fish tacos Quesa Tacos, and the Queso fundido (latter both with mushrooms), were absolutely fire. The guacamole was OK- I would give it a 3.5/5 because it desperately needed salt, and would not order it again. Otherwise this is a great spot for some good food, cute ambiance, excellent service, and it is relatively easy to get a table! Highly recommend, and will be coming back to try their taco Tuesday deals. read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend for an early dinner. We were not disappointed! We got the margarita flight and a few of the drinks, which were all AMAZING! For starters, we got the guacamole which is served with what looks like chicharones, it was decent. We ordered the mushroom tacos, fish tacos, lamb birria, and beef birria. Santeria is accommodating for a large group. We were able to make a reservation the day of a Sunday brunch and were able to be seated immediately. They had many nice decorations surrounding our seating area along with a chips bar area. We did bottomless drinks and were able to try many unique flavors, which Strawberry and Mango being my favorites and the Michelada tasting more questionable. I tried the Baby Breakfast Burrito and Fish Tacos. The Baby Breakfast Burrito was a good size despite it mentioning "baby," and the Fish Tacos were delicious and flavorful. We had a hard time finding parking so we were running late, but staff were understanding when we called ahead. The indoor/outdoor seating options are nice, especially on a sunny day in the city. Our server was very attentive and warm, and we were able to stay and chat for a bit. We ordered the fish tacos and huevos rancheros - both were great. I loved how crispy the fish was, and the ratio of fish to taco was pretty impressive. I still get sticker shock paying 15+ for tacos, but they were really good. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with tempura cauliflower: I love this accompaniment to the enchiladas: I loathe rice and beans, and this was a pleasant surprise. Santeeia was right off Market Street. Parking was not too hard on Noe Street, a block away. The indoor and outdoor space was cute and the parklet are dog friendly. All the food was pretty and the usual - tad expensive Mexican food. They also had an all you can drink mimosa for $35 and required full table to participate. We didn't get it since not everyone wanted a beverage. We had lemonade, sparkling water and someone got the margarita flight. It was pretty and enough for two people to share. Chips and Salsa were not complimentary, which is diff then other places and cost $3. Service was ok until we wanted to pay. After all the food was dropped off, our server did not return for a long time. So long that we had to give up and go in to ask for the check ourselves. Total came to about $50/person. We were able to make a same-day dinner reservation at Santeria for our party of 7. The interior was dimly lit with a cool red bar, large wall murals, and an overall trendy vibe. For drinks, I started with a Tradicional Margarita, which was very well made. They also had a ton of flavors like prickly pear, guava, mango, strawberry, cucumber-basil, etc. and gave the option of salt or tajín on the rim. I ended up also trying the Red Sangria, which was tasty, but the margs were better. For food, my friend and I shared the Chipotle Chicken Puffy Tacos and Steak Quesa Tacos. Both came with two tacos per order, so it was easy to just swap one. While both were delicious, the Steak Quesa Taco was my favorite. I loved the griddled cheese on the tortilla and how flavorful it was. The Puffy Tacos were labelled a "must-try" on the menu, but we couldn't quite figure out what made them "puffy". They were also pretty messy to eat and fell apart after a few bites, but the Chipotle Chicken was tasty. My friends all enjoyed their food as well, including the Carne Asada, Empanadas, and Lamb Birria Quesadilla. For dessert, Santeria only had two options, so we ordered both of them for the table. The Churros came with 5 per order, so they were great for sharing, and we liked the dulce de leche dipping sauce. However, the Tres Leches Trifle was my favorite of the two. The texture of the rum spiced vanilla cake was so soft. Our only real issue with this restaurant came at the end, when we got our bill. Since we were a large party, tip was already included, but our server had added an additional tip. While trying to get this fixed, she ended up adding 4-5 extra items to our bill, that a different table had ordered. After some back and forth, this was resolved. There was also a $25 "Healthy San Francisco Surcharge", and the dinner was on the pricy side in general. Overall, still a good experience - would return! read more

In the old Finn Town Tavern space. Kinda a cool mexican vibe (not a taqueria). They have loads of tequila brands and are heavy on those kinds of drinks. II am not a real fan of tequila, so I just got a glass of Happy hour spritzer. I do hate when restaurants can't just hand you a menu - they force you to use the QR code which I could not get to work on my phone - when we finally got it to work, the online menu is not well organized, so we didn't even realize there was a pretty robust happy hour food menu...and we needed to order before happy hour ended, which was in 5 minutes. The two of us totally over ordered for the HH menu: -Guac and big tortilla thing (we asked for chips and they brought them out - they are far superior to the thing the large portion of guac was served with, so ask for ships instead) -elote corn - another huge portion and might have been my favorite -Spicy sticky wings - fine, pretty spicy -taquitos - our least favorite ("where's the meat in these things?")
