Sunday July 12, 2026 - Today I was looking forward to touring the historic Santo Tomás building established in 1888 but the employee a middle aged lady with a hoarse voice hosting the wine tasting was so rude. I left the building without tasting any of their products. Yes it was a large group with noisy children and adults it was our last stop but there is no need to single out people with a rude nasty tone while they are on vacation. I cannot comment on their products but this employee is in dire need of customer service training. read more

We stopped in with our excursion group as part of our cruise for a wine and olive oil tasting with one of the oldest wineries in Ensenada. It's a really nice building with a big courtyard out front and clean bathrooms. The woman who ran our wine tasting was funny and inviting and really made the experience. The white wine was my favorite which surprised me as I'm usually more of a rose person. It was light and fruity and refreshing. I also enjoyed the olive oil tasting. I've been waiting five years to visit this place. Once I stepped into the winery, it reminded me of Spain. It was very beautiful inside. My fiancée bought me one of their 17% alc, and I have not been able to stop thinking about it ever since. Sadly, they stopped selling it, but the wonderful Seniora at the front gave us options. We ended up buying three bottles and doing lots of taste testing. She made the first time experience unforgettable! I will come and visit again when on my next cruise. read more

Stopped by on a cruise port day. The courtyard out front is very cute and welcoming. We decided to do a wine tasting which included a white, rose, and Cabernet. We really enjoyed them all. While visiting Ensenada on a cruise, my husband and I visited Santo Tomas winery. We had seen videos on YouTube and wanted to check it out. It was about a 30-minute walk from the cruise port, and the plaza where it is located is very nice. There are several restaurants and shops. We decided to get two glasses of wine rather than do a wine tasting, as there was only one red wine in the tasting. The wine was just okay but the atmosphere was wonderful. We sat and sipped our wine as we people watched. There were several tour groups that visited the winery while we were there. I'm glad we visited and we will probably stop in again! read more

Looking to check out a winey a little more closer to Ensenada, we decided to check out Santo Tomas. We've had their wines numerous times before; even being the preferred drink at my sister's wedding. Upon arrival, the staff was very friendly and attentive to making sure we had a great experience our first time there. We opted for the wine tasting experience and we were greeted with the history of the winery, it's locations and the history behind wine thriving in Mexico. While there we even did some avocado oil tasting with some sourdough bread. Never thought I would enjoy avocado oil that much until I had some pure, in modified oils. This place is one of my favorite destinations whenever I go on a cruise to Ensenada. I recently attended the wine tasting (again), this time with Viridiana and Alfons. Both of them were incredibly friendly, making us feel welcome and at ease from the moment we arrived. Viridiana's knowledge about the different wine varieties and Alfonso's insights were truly impressive. They had a fantastic way of explaining complex details in an easy-to-understand manner, making the whole experience both educational and enjoyable. The wines we tasted were absolutely delicious and surprisingly affordable. My favorite was the 100% Colombard, which has now become a staple at all the parties I attend. It's always a hit and never fails to impress! The atmosphere they created during my visit was lively and entertaining, filled with laughter and great conversation. I left with a deeper appreciation for wine and a big smile on my face. If you're looking for a wine tasting experience that's both informative and a lot of fun, I highly recommend joining a session with Viridiana and Alfonso. They are the best! read more

Located a few blocks away from the main shopping streets of Ensenada, this place is a gem. I spent almost three hours here with my wife, dad, and stepmom. The host took exceptional care of us. She told us a little history while guiding us through each tasting of their delicious wines. We were then greeted to a tour of the facilituty, including the wine celler, never feeling rushed along the way. We all loved the entire expierience! read more

CITY TOUR STOP #2. I would have never had even the tiniest thought of associating wine with Ensenada. Yet here we are. I'm not a wine fiend, or anything, but Mom and Hubbers are, so they paid more attention to the demo than I did. They were also generous enough to give samples of their wine. What I found more interesting, however, are the several types of olive oil they market. We were all given the opportunity to try 5 of them. If your palate is up to par, you would be able to taste the difference between the five. And yes, they were all very good. It's a pretty popular brand. Tons of customers coming in and out for purchase. My family ended up taking 6 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of olive oil. It was educational and prices on their products are reasonable. A great stop on a walk from the cruise ship. It is beyond the tourist shopping area, located in a restored historic building with outdoor tables and a few tables inside. The wine presenter was very knowledgeable about the wines and their history. Who knew they had been a commercial producer since 1888? The wines are excellent, and reasonably priced compared to California wineries. We bought a bottle of their tasty dessert wine, their rose' and a nice heritage of barbera, Merlot and syrah. They are in the process of setting up their old basement area to display old bottles discovered during recent renovations. read more

Wine Tasting was part of today's cruise excursion itinerary. It was here at Santo Tomas. We spent time in the tasting/sales room, then our tasting for 46 people began. We tasted 2 white wines, 1 red wine and a sweet brandy-like dessert wine. We enjoyed the first 3 but that last one was a bit too syrupy sweet for our taste. We also sampled olive oils on bread with cheese cubes as a palette cleanser. My husband and I got engaged years back in the Guadalupe Valley of Mexico. This area has a fond place in my heart! On our most recent anniversary trip, we decided to travel out a bit to the the "oldest" winery in Mexico in Ensenada. This is where it all started (well in our area of the world at least). This winery is, Bodegas de Santo Tomas! We simply fell in love again! We took home (what we could legally carry)...choosing the 2011 Barbera! On the original trip to Mexico when we got engaged, we had the pleasure of dining with some of the "Who's Who" elite of the Mexican wine world, one of the men behind it all was Hugo D'Acosta who has been influential in shaping the wine industry in the county. I was told he changed the way wine was being produced in Mexico, including his previous work at Santo Tomas. He now has his own shiny vineyard that we hope to enjoy on our next trip...can't wait for that review! read more

Absolutely beautiful building with great wines and olive oils. We came to this "winery" for wine tasting via a cruise excursion. We stopped here just for the wine tasting because it no longer is a working winery. They only host wine tasting here. However, long ago, this place was the first winery in Ensenada (said the tour guide). I loved their olive oils! I actually bought one to take home (only $10 for a specialty olive oil)! The wines were a-ok, nothing too memorable, but oh my goodness, the olive oils were great! I highly recommend you stop by for a wine tasting and check out this beautiful building and friendly staff! read more

Santo Tomás Winery is a great place to visit; it has multiple options for wine tasting and some of them combine chocolate pairings and the chocolate is made in Mexico as well. It offers olive tasting (5 different kinds) and they are extremely tasty and affordable. They have indoor and outdoor seating with amazing views of the Valley. read more

It's the oldest winery in Mexico. This location isn't the original winery but it's pretty big. You really can't miss it driving along this main road because you will see signs and flags. In order to get to the tasting room, you have to drive through the vineyard, which is pretty nice. Once you get to the tasting room, called the "cava", you walked up the ramp through HUGE double doors into a gorgeous room. The place is really nice and modern with bottles of wine stocked from ceiling (high ceiling) to floor. The glass casing which showcases the boxes of fine chocolates they sell is also where you do the tastings with a guide. I've been here twice and wasn't able to do the tasting the first time because apparently they only do it on the hour, so if you miss it you'll have to wait for the next one. This time, we came with local friends (who also owns a B&B down the road) and were able to get in on the tastings. The 3 wine plus chocolate tasting is $10 ($100 pesos) per person. My bf and I shared one tasting because i was still full from breakfast. Wine and chocolate pairing sure is like heaven in your mouth! After the tasting, we sat in the outdoor patio over looking the winery and were treated by our friends to more wine (Mision 1888), which is our favorite wine and actually the cheapest one! You can buy them at the local liquor stores around Baja for cheap! We always get a bottle or two before heading back to the states. The experience here was very nice but i only give it only 3 stars because it's too pricey for my liking and i dont like that you can only doing the tasting on the hour. read more

I visited this winery with a group of girlfriends during a shore day on a cruise. The review is for the tasting room on Miramar, not the winery itself. We stumbled upon Santo Tomas after an unfortunate walk in search of a bakery that was in fact closed. First off, the staff mentioned not too many people walk from the tourist area. Honestly, I can see why. Our trip up Miramar was only about 5 blocks, but during that walk we witnessed several people who appeared to be prostitutes, a couple people cooking meth and getting ready to inject, and a guy testing out cars to see which ones were unlocked. Still, don't let that deter you - another street could have been better, or a quite cab ride would have been just fine. Even then, we had a group and didn't feel threatened or unsafe at any point- maybe if I'd been by myself, but it was tolerable. The tasting room is located in "hipster Mexico" as we called it - a gluten free bakery across the street, a modern coffee shop, a charcuterie, and a french pastry shop. As for the tasting room itself, it's large, with bottles lining the walls and one wall of wines from other wineries. The tasting counter is relatively small, and we easily filled it with our group of 5. During our tasting, we tried about 5-6 wines. I wasn't impressed with the white wines, but the red blends were decent table wine, and I ended up bringing home a bottle of their dessert wine. As with many things, tastes vary, and you'll have to decide if it's for you or not. The gentleman assisting us was very friendly and set out some olive oils and cheese during our tasting. He also guided us into their cellar area downstairs, and was able to provide a decent amount of information on the winery and it's history. This is a great little spot in Ensenada, and if you're a foodie you'll enjoy the nearby shops. Stop in for a friendly drink, and take a bottle of very reasonably priced wine home (I paid $12 US for a bottle of dessert wine and my tasting). read more

Four of us did a wine tasting here while on a four-day cruise and we all loved the wines. It was actually a tasting room in downtown, so it wasn't actually at the winery, but being downtown meant that we could stop by there on our next cruise without having to go too far. I actually forget most of the names of the wines, but we tasted a very light white, a Barbera rose, a Tempernillo, a Cab, and the Tinto port. I ended up buying a bottle of each wine we tasted, so that says a lot. The staff was super friendly and spoke excellent English (a plus for us - sadly - monolinguists). They also have olive oils, which were very tasty, and chocolates. I got the 66% and wasn't that impressed. I could charge the wines, but the chocolates and olive oils need to be paid for in cash, although American $$s were accepted. read more
