Many of the offerings looked amazing but I chose the special, octopus and scallops in an amazing sauce on the side and grain free squid ink pasta. 5 star food and 5 star service! The ambiance is that of a small French cafe. Aurora is a brilliant French chef and owner of Sapiens. My wife has celiac disease and the tiniest bit of gluten causes severe illness for weeks. Sapiens is entirely gluten free, lactose free, organic and paleo. We started with a bread and herb-ghee platter, the breads made in house with heartwarming specialty grains. Amazing! My wife ordered the lamb shank with root vegetables. It was so tender, tasty and plentiful. She took the leftovers home and gave our dog a few bites. The dog loved this lamb so much that she refused to eat for two days until we replaced her daily fresh cooked beef with lamb! Haha! I ordered the Rabbit with root vegetables having never eaten rabbit before. I figured this would be the right place to try it and I was correct! It was extremely delicious and delicately prepared Cost was very reasonable especially for this level of cuisine. I eat Paleo for health/medical reasons and saw Sapiens months ago but never tried because I was usually in the area during lunch time/hours they aren't open. Made a resy for a Friday night and so glad I finally made it in! The hostess/server Korin was amazing! She was so easy to talk to, shared some personal experiences and learnings, was extremely knowledgeable about menu items and ingredients, and had great recommendations. During our experience, a delivery service person was talking loudly on speakerphone and the owner Roman asked him to talk on his phone outside. I really appreciated Roman caring about his customers and preserving the ambiance and environment inside his establishment. I felt valued as a customer. The food was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. We tried the bone broth - great flavor, perfect saltiness, and fresh herbs, escargot - very generous portion with paleo bread, stuffed mushrooms - huge chunks of crab, Friday special 24 oz bone in ribeye with root veggie augratin and veggies, crème caramel and caramel ice cream. The desserts were perfectly sweetened with monk fruit and so thick and creamy. I personally don't like the taste or aftertaste of dairy and sugar and these were so wonderful with none of that weird stuff! Our visit ended with a chat with Roman who shared about his health journey and what led him to this lifestyle, plant paradoxes, and tons of fun topics and facts about diet and lifestyle and how food is medicine. Maybe our palate's weren't ready for paleo foods just yet or weren't refined enough because we just didn't enjoy the evening / dinner. Onion soup was too sweet (understanding that onions when caramelized are sweet, but this was more than that like sugar was added) and had little beef flavor. Update: insult to injury. During his rude and insanely abrupt response last week that he would refund the item but 'not to return again'. Jaw dropped truly by this experience. I am adding to my previous review. I did not ask for a refund. What I wanted was a private conversation to correct the repeated overcharging for an add on which I was not receiving so I wouldn't have to leave a review like this. I've been gone for business travel so checked with my credit card billing to see if I had been refunded for this item. I had not. I didn't realize they don't have any sort of drinks. You can bring a bottle of wine but I hadn't planned that well. I'd have loved to see some festive mocktails for the holiday! The salad starter had a poached pear which is always a win to me. My turkey dinner was so good. Possibly the best turkey I've ever had! All the accompaniments were really good, including the gravy, mash (celeriac?? As a paleo place, it wasn't potato but I could barely tell), and the sweet potato souffle. Really unique place. Paleo based (which is not something I would normally seek out) with French I fluence and BYOB w minimal corkage fee. A quaint local spot with surprisingly large portions and elevated cuisine. I have been wanting to come here for so long and I live across the street from this restaurant, but I kept forgetting. I'm glad that I finally went for dinner recently with my French. friend. This restaurant is not cheap, but the food was phenomenal. The chef/owner cooks the meal with love and compassion, it shows in the flavor of the food and quality. This is not the place for dinner if you are in hurry because it took awhile for our meal to be ready. Since my French friend knows the chef/owner, we got a dessert complimentary and it was wow. I ordered roasted chicken and it was excellent. Since this is paleo restaurant, the food wasn't heavy at all and you feel good after you eat your meal. Went for a New Year's Eve dinner - great food, ambiance, and service! Definitely lots of passion here.

We ordered the filet mignon and like one other customer said it was very weird!! It did not taste like steak at all and made us very nauseous. It was cooked in some mysterious way and with mysterious ingredients. The chef came out and was very agitated and was not nice at all and would not tell us her secret formula. She then proceeded to show us a large beef tenderloin which she claimed she uses. Then we got charge $17 each for just eating the vegetables which were not cooked properly and some were raw. They gave me instead a salmon but she threw the potatoes on the table in front of my sister. Not a good experience. Can't believe that anyone likes this place with its strange cooking that they won't disclose. Please don't go there and ruin your evening. read more

Someone recommended this restaurant to me and I'm sure glad they did! I came here on a Friday night with a friend. Around 6pm they were at their busiest and by 8pm we were the only ones left. The restaurant is in a plaza and has plenty of parking. There is a nice view of the mountains from the restaurant as a bonus. The atmosphere is very quaint. The service was good, a little slow so plan to be here awhile. Now onto the food. It was delicious! Healthy and fresh, but very tasty and not plain. I was very impressed. It is a little pricey for the serving size, but to be expected when eating gluten free/paleo. The dessert was also delicious but for $10 I would have hoped for a bigger portion of ice cream. It was literally 2 bites (I wanted more because it was so good). The crumble they used was a bit dry and needed the ice cream to add moisture, however there wasn't enough ice cream to do so. A great way to end the week by having dinner here on a Fry-yah evening. Went here with a Pal and glad that she found this place, as we often enjoy trying new places regardless of how far away we drive to them. The location has a beautiful sight of the Mountains and the inside is very quaint and peaceful. Oro, an owner/employee, was amazing as she came out to greet us and let us know more about the food and it's preparation which was a very sweet gesture. She's so nice! We didn't request it but she was friendly and had no idea I would review them. Just a note! Shows how friendly she was. I had no idea that they didn't use sugar nor dairy until Ora explained, which is why, this made it even more awesome because, although, the food didn't cater to the sugar and dairy...I could not tell!!! Loved it!!! We arrived at 6 but didn't get our food for a very long time, thinking that Jenny, our waitress forgot about us. We were seeing other humans come in after us, and leaving way before us... that part was a little irritating to be honest. ‍ If you're planning on going, prepare to be here a while but part of me is like, you can't rush perfection although, people were in and out ...so the other part of me was irritated like... sheesh! ‍‍ You could tell that whomever the cooks were, that they put their love into preparation because, it was all yummy. I don't eat "good for you" meaning ( I eat sugar, gluten and dairy products)so, for me to say that this place was AWESOME is saying A LOT!!! ... Again, NO ONE WOULD EVER KNOW that it's gluten, sugar and dairy free... That's how FANTASTIC it is!!! The mushroom(s) were good but, I seen a photo in which, 2 were served so I expected 2 but, when I received only 1, I asked Jenny, (waitress) about it and she explained that it depends on the size of the mushrooms. Mine was a nice sized one but I felt a little thrown off not getting 2. The lemonade with sparkling water was tasty ... I was sad that they weren't refills though. The filet mignon was great although, I prefer medium well but,( not bloody) but it was more done than, I wanted...it was still GREAT! The presentation of all of the dishes were set up BEAUTIFULLY One of the chefs who brung out the dishes, put his heart and soul into delivery as well. Believe me he handles with care. (reminded me of salt bae... if you know, you know) The apple desert was very very good but the teeny scoop of ice cream wasn't enough... they should have at least add 2- 3 teeny scoops of the non dairy ice cream on top, as the dish, needed more moisture for the crumble on top, to set the taste pallet to comfort. Very good dish overall though. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND AND WILL DEFINITELY RETURN. Tell Jenny and Ora that I sent ya As usual, there's plenty of free parking. I was recently put on an AIP diet and had been eating at home for weeks. I really missed date nights and going out to dinner, so I did a bit of Googling and found Sapiens! I am so glad we went! The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. We got the pork belly appetizer, duck, rabbit stew, and apple crumble. Everything was 10/10. The restaurant was busy, but our server was kind and attentive. Food took a little bit longer than it does at most restaurants, but that just means your dish is made from scratch, to order, with love. So worth the wait. We felt like we were having dinner in France. Even if you don't have food restrictions I HIGHLY recommend. Incredible quality, incredible taste, great service, and lovely ambiance. Sapiens is a French restaurant serving up Paleo inspired dishes. I was so excited to come across this restaurant, as I've been wanting to cut carbs, and be a little more healthy. My husband was not as excited to try this place, however, HE LOVED IT! We both enjoyed our dishes! He got the duck, the thigh/leg portion was much better than the breast portion, all in all he did enjoy it, and we both look forward in coming back! I had the Alaskan Salmon, it was cooked to perfection, and the veggies were amazing as well. The French onion soup was 10 out 10, very good! The crab stuffed mushrooms, were about a 6 out of 10, I was really looking forward to that appetizer, but they had a strange flavor for me. The service was friendly, and our waiter offered suggestions, and knew the menu/preparation very well. We also loved that this establishment is a BYOB, hard to find restaurants in AZ that allow you to bring in your own wine or beer. For a small corking fee, we were able to enjoy a bottle of wine, that we brought from home! If you want a healthy upscale meal that is infused with just the right flavor, come here. Don't worry if you don't eat paleo free or dairy free or gluten free. It doesn't matter. We did specifically choose Sapiens because my son has to be gluten free. But I still want to eat at a restaurant that I can enjoy too. We started with the stuffed mushrooms but the hit was the bread plate. From an herb infused bread (Sapiens specialty) to flat bread to one with cranberries, they were all hits. Served with ghee and some savory spreads, it was delish. We both chose the filet Mignon with a Merlot sauce and fresh winter vegetables. The merlot sauce had a nice pop of pepper I believe. It was extremely flavorful and added to the nicely prepared meat. The veggies were clean and tasty. It is a small space and relaxed with maybe 6-8 tables. Also, it's BYOB. What a treat to have a totally gluten free menu/kitchen, for those with Celiac in our group. The food was delicious, the ambiance quaint and charming, the service attentive. We had the chicken (divine), duck (very good, though the chicken was just a bit better), the oysters Rockefeller (fantastic), and the creme caramel (delicious) and creme brulee (good, bit not really creme brulee, more like a chocolate mousse). In theory, it's a nice place, especially if you have food allergies . However we left a bit disappointed..reservations are requiredas it is a small place and its byob. Upon arrival we told our waiter it was our first time and expected to be walked through the menu a bit especially with the allergies. Luckily I asked because some of the items where you can add cheese its real cheese and not non dairy as the menu implies. So hard to know if things are actually non dairy unless you asked. For starters we got the veggie drip and bread platter which were both okay at best. I wish someone would have told us what the different types of breads we got were and toppings were a bit bland. We got a variety of main dishes which were all okay and nothing special. The burger was served in a way that you had to eat it deconstructed and had way to .much of a mayo mixture on top. For dessert I was super excited because they had a non dairy creme Brule and that's why I picked this place. It was by no means cre Brule besides it was served in a ramiken. Instead we were served a cold.chocolate mousse. No burnt top, not anything creme Brule, but just decadent chocolate mousse. I really wish that's what it had been called so we could have tried something else. We also tried the apple crumble that came with no crumble. Sapiens Paleo Kitchen is an all Paleo B.Y.O.B. French Style Restaurant located in Scottsdale. This is a very small restaurant so you need to make a reservation. They serve high quality HEALTHY Paleo food prepared by a very experienced French Trained Master Chef. It doesn't matter if you are into Paleo or not to dine here. We started with a Paleo Bread Platter ($10.00) and Balsamic Braised Brussels sprouts ($5.00). The breads were unique. We received an assortment of thin toasted slices and some chewy chunks with a smoky tomato jam, artichoke tapenade and a gee/butter. The Brussels sprouts were tender crisp. Everything was tasty and delicious. For dinner I had the Branzino special ($31.95). This might have been the very best branzino I ever had. I don't think I ever had one that was prepared this well. It was seasoned to perfection and the meat was so tender and amazing. The plate was also very detailed with French green beans, a delicious parsnip puree, a persimmon, capers, fancy lettuce and more. My husband had the Rabbit Stew ($28.00). He thought it was really delicious. He did say the salt level WAS GOOD for him but he did say for me and some people it might run too salty. For dessert we shared the daily made Les Chocolates ($10.00). We received a generously sized plated of assorted chocolates. First bite and you just taste the high quality chocolate. Some had nuts, some had fruit and one was a chocolate covered coconut. Again it was a large portion and we shared it with two other people. A few items on the menu might run high in salt for those who are sensitive to salt like the escargot and the duck. This is a B.Y.O.B. and opening fee is $15.00. The only other thing to mention is that this is a small place with small tables so groups of four will be slightly crowded. The appetizers are amazingly delicious and beautifully plated. the escargot was seasoned to perfection. the pork belly flatbreads were generous portions . I ordered the duck entree because I trusted i would not be disappointed and I wasn't...flavorful down to bone. Ordered desserts to go and the wonderful experience continued away from the restaurant. every bite just absolutely divine! the ambiance is perfect. the service is Topnotch. Sadly those same traits can also work against you when, in the heat of the moment, you decide to publicly attack my rice and beans and soft pork eating childhood and extend that into the assumption that I have not risen to the level of being able to enjoy a tender and succulent lamb shank. I am in fact not familiar with all facets of paleo diet and specific foods, but if paleo requires that rather than being fork tender a lamb shank will require a steak knife in order to be able to eat any of it at all, then I certainly do not have a paleo palate and apologise for my ignorance and unreasonable expectations. We were searching for something novel the other night and stumbled upon Sapiens Paleo Kitchen - WOW. It's probably good that it's located in North Scottsdale, because if we lived closer than 40 minutes away, we'd be here nightly. We're all-opportunity eaters - we just care about good food - and Sapiens fits that bill completely. We had the Paleo Bread Platter (who knew that Paleo bread was a thing and that it would be so delicious?) and the Stuffed Mushrooms for an appetizer. I might have dropped one of the mushrooms on the table and still ate it, but the restaurant was impeccably clean and I so far have not contracted COVID, so I think we're golden. It was that good, though! We split the rabbit (served in a "stew" gravy, felt like you were in the medieval ages) and the paleo meatloaf for entrees. The dessert menu looked so good, with so many delicious options, but we were SO STUFFED that we couldn't do it! I'm just going to take this as an opportunity to drive back to try some more dishes. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly as well. 100% will be back. Also, during COVID they've created some pre-prepared meals that you can heat up at home for your family meal-prep style! So I've wanted to try this place for a while. I get emails from them all the time. They had a Valentines meal, three course for $70. I'm not Palio but Keto. I wrote to them asking if they could make it Keto, and they confirmed definitely. They do advertise that other places as well. Anyway, we got there for our reservation and its pretty tight quarters. About 11 tables in a small space. They took our order, and I told them I am Keto. The first course was salad or soup. I picked salad, which came with a large pear, greens, and hard toast. So the pear and toast is definitely not Keto. So take that away and you have greens (lettuce). The entrees came with a potato, and they substituted a few stalks of asparagus. It was fine and keto, but not very big portions. My wife finished it all, and she never can eat more than half, plus she ate my pear and toasted bread. The desert was two chocolate dipped strawberries which they said was sugar-free, The whole meal for two of us came to $160 after tip. My meal, some lettuce and dressing, two strawberries, a few Brussels sprouts, a bit of asparagus and a very small steak. Maybe 3.5 oz or 4 max. What food I could eat was fine, but overall, I think very overpriced, even at today's prices. That was with water since they don't even have Diet Coke or Pepsi. I ordered from this restaurant for Devour 2022 and I was not disappointed. We did not order from here because it is keto or paleo or whatever. I simply wanted good food. We got two orders of the sea bass and it was prepared perfectly. I also ordered an asparagus soup to go with it and really enjoyed it. Everything was ready and wrapped when I got there to pick up. On the spot, I decided to add one more meal and they sat me comfortably while I waited for a salmon entree. They were so courteous and kind. I'd like to visit again and eat in next time. Sapiens has exquisite gourmet French cuisine in an intimate warm environment. It is owned by the prestigious French Chef Aurore whose menu brilliantly offers choices that are paleo healthy even though they taste sinfully delicious. We had the Duck Confit with a vibrant Orange Reduction and the grass-fed Filet Mignon with a Malbec Wine Sauce. The sauces had such depth of flavors that it is no surprise that Chef Aurore was once a saucier for French officials and celebrities. The accompanying vegetables were beautiful (See photo of entrée.) including thinly sliced heirloom carrots and Au Gratin Potatoes so luscious that I am astounded they were made without dairy. Chef Aurore is such a kind person, caring not only about providing the healthiest food (locally grown organic produce, meat from humane conditions, without antibiotics and growth hormones), but also caring about the satisfaction and culinary experience of her patrons.
