I've loved the cannolis and rainbow cookies from here since I used to hang out in Elmont 20 years ago and would stop here often. Recently I've gotten back into going here and I'm so glad I did. The staff is always very friendly. It's a small bakery but with a very good selection. I've gotten a few too good to go boxes from here within the last couple of months and they are extremely generous with the portions they give for those boxes. The first time they gave me a large box full of pastries, a box with four large cupcakes and two loaves of semolina. Went again last night and recieved a box with 8 large cannolis and a large apple crumb pie. The parking lot is very small and in front of the store, so if they're busy you may not be able to find a spot as there are definitely less than 10 parking spots. read more

Complaint is about the service, ordered some cookies and pasties and when paying the total was a lot more than I expected. When I returned home I realized there were a couple of items she doubled, I said one carrot cake but there were two. She put in cookies that I did not ask for and I was very specific like saying the long chocolate coated one with raspberry filling. Instead it was 3 huge tie dye shortbread cookies (that no one wanted or ate). I asked for 2 of a specific cookie and she put in 4. Same with the other cookies, she would put an extra in. I was very clear for each item, 2 of xyz, etc. No wonder why I spent double the amount than I was expecting. Truly disappointed, I feel like I was duped. We came on a whim and we were pleasantly surprised. The employees behind the counter were very nice and greeted us and allowed us time to look around. They made great suggestions and we actually left with more than we had in mind to get. We got some cannolis, turnovers and a cheese danish. The turnovers were huge, flaky and the filling tasted so fresh (not the normal gelatinous glob) I love that the shell of the cannolis continues to be crunchy the day after. Got to try a wonderful assortment of baked goods from Sapienza Pastry. Everything in the showcases looked wonderful. The croissants are HUGE, as are the danish. My husband devoured the croissant after making a sandwich on it. I made sure to get a taste. It was soft & flaky. The cannoli...the best I've had yet! The outside shell had a nice fresh crunch to it. Very light. The filling creamy & not too sweet. My family who staked their claim on the danish all loved them. The bakery is on a main road with parking spots on property right in front. Unfortunately, I found this wonderful bakery on the way to a funeral in Elmont New York. My friends and I stopped to pick up pastries to bring to the bereaved after funeral. This bakery specializes in custom cakes, biscotti, cookies, cheesecakes and much more. We walked in and admired the display case of pastries: elephant ears, sfingi, tri-colored cookies and other delectables. The server was on the phone placing a phone order, thus our wait time was a few minutes. This is, surprisingly, a Kosher bakery except for the desserts that contain strawberries. Everything looked scrumptious especially the Creme filled cannolis: the Creme looked as if it was just freshly prepared. We also ordered coffees to go. The coffee was delicious and piping hot. They should think about offering specialty coffees like cappuccino. I've reviewed the reviews that were posted on Yelp. Could the service improve.. yes.. there was only one server to assist us. There were 2 customers who entered as we were paying that were placing sizable orders. But, we are still dealing with a pandemic, so I can only imagine it is hard for the owner or any owner to gauge demand and how to hire in these still difficult times. I can only imagine at this location, reassessing, payroll needs. Thus, I would love to give Sapienza a 5 star but the service needs to be relooked at. Over the years I've always passed this shop taking the bus in route to my college in Manhattan from home. My aunt always brought classic Italian cookies and their chocolate crème pie over for the holidays. I stopped here the other week with my husband since he was interested seeing the shop in person. It's located on the main road of Hempstead Turnpike which is super busy. There is limited parking in front of the shop, but it is easier to park within the neighborhood on the local roads since it can be difficult to pull out of the lot. The bakery is small, so covid restrictions limit them to having two parties at a time in the bakery. The girls are very helpful and package all the desserts in an efficient manner. I felt sorry for them for some rude customers that were yelling at the girls because they didn't give themselves enough time in case there was a line to wait on. No fault to the employees at all. Shame on those customers for their poor timing. This visit we got a quarter pound of assorted cookies and some small pastries (cream puff, cannolis, st. Joseph's pastry and rainbow cake). Their rainbow cake was light and airy. The st. Joseph's pastry and cannolis were also very good with a pretty decent cannoli creme. The cookies are always an easy go to for a small bite. Although they are not the best Italian bakery I have been to, they are definitely worth checking out. read more

I've ordered a few cakes from here and they are always very good. Tasty and beautiful! Pastries usually good , but occasionally I'll get something that tastes a bit stale and not as fresh. Despite that I always come back. Cannolis consistently good Napoleons hit or miss on the freshness scale- but when they are fresh they are VERY good. I liked a cake that my friend had for her son and that is how I learned about this place. Well, I was so disappointed! I provided the logo and the school logo does not have the color pink. Well, my cake did and the writing on the cake was crooked as well. I called and they asked me to text a picture of the cake as she needed to speak to the owner. When she called me back her response was that the owner said he printed it twice, this was the best he could do and that he would only refund me $15 for the editable image. That response was completely unacceptable. If there was an issue, they should have called me and explain the situation. I also found it very upsetting that the owner knew it was not right and was just going to leave it at that. Very unprofessional. I will add, I did not take the refund. Our relationship started with Sapienza 5 yrs ago when they did my wedding cake. I said that I would write a review. I kept putting if off and forgetting. This time I had to make time. Every event from my wedding day until now the top question is " where do you get that cake from"? Every event I find a cake design and I email Andrew the idea and it's even better then what I ask for. Then when we actually take a bite, it's complete heaven. This last cake I was a bit nervous to order because I had to take it on a 2hour drive. Andrew told me to freeze it so I did. I been a long time customer of Sapienza Pastry. This use to be our go to spot for cakes for every single occasion. A few years or more we stopped going there because the cake started to taste like a literal sponge in texture, they would forget to use fresh strawberries or forget to put them at all as ordered. So we stopped going. Then recently we were desperate for a quick cake and picked one up from this very bakery. It was amazing so we decided for my sons 4th birthday we would give them another shot. When we got there to pick up the preordered cake the younger opened the box and looked at the cake. She said Oooo Noo then without showing us took the cake too the back and brought it back out. The name on the cake and the image were damaged. Her response was that they spelled my sons name with an O instead of an A but it wasn't that they spelled it with an O, they spelled it with a cursive a. She should have shown us the cake before trying to fix it and she didn't fix it she messed it up. Worst cake experience ever.. there is a problem if a bakery opens up at 10am on a weekend and STILL doesn't have your cake or the other 25 cake orders from other customers ready.. line out the door and down the block, missing ones hosted event because there isn't a system in place where they do pickups only. Several Customers running into the store demanding refunds for cakes that aren't ready. Would rather take my chances with a supermarket cake then do this again !! They have lost me as a customer. It could be the best tasting cake but when this happens and you fall the customers and they have huge events you take you business elsewhere . Top 5 bakeries on Long Island? I think so. It's a good thing I don't live closer, because if I did, I'd be half a ton by now. Every time I am in the area I make a trip here, no exceptions. This is a must try place. Everything is made fresh, and tastes great. The decoration was also very pretty and exactly what I asked for. You want delicious, fresh made, classic Italian pastries? This is the place. The only problem you will have is controlling yourself and not buying up the whole store. Mini pastries are available, priced by the pound, which I agree is an excellent idea to allow you to get a little bit of everything. It was a bit crowded when I went in on Saturday afternoon (no surprise) and so it was a little tricky to make sure I didn't cut in front of anyone as there was no actual line, and I didn't see one of those 'take a number' gadgets, which would probably come in handy here at busy times. But it was all good and everyone waiting was handled promptly. And may I say the staff is super friendly and very polite, very customer-service oriented. Good training! I've never ordered a made-to-order cake so I can't comment on that service; but if the need arises, this will be my choice. They actually have a respectable sized parking lot for a business that fronts on Hempstead Tpke. It's head-in parking, but you don't have to back straight out onto the Turkpike. There is enough room to maneuver your vehicle around to pull out forward. Just be careful and take it slow. Also so your cakes don't slide off the seat!
