Worst Italian cookies I ever had. Expensive too... no flavor, strange texture... never again.

We are very disappointed everything was old and we paid more than $100 the ricotta was acid, and the fruit was old if I could give 0 stars I would. We had to throw everything in the garbage. We couldn't go back cause we live 3 hours away but if it was for me I'd bring everything back to show them. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I've been stopping in during the holidays for several years. This past Easter I was scolded for not ordering in advance with such a large order. My order was $180 and only two people waiting after my order was already underway. It was the owner too which is disappointing. You'd think they appreciate business and check the attitude. Oh well. I used to visit Amato years ago and got custom cakes from them...and they were well made and tasted good. However, I stopped going because I ordered cakes and they were just done very sloppily and weren't worth the money I was being charged. Last week, I decided I'd give them another chance because I want to support local businesses and it was the biggest mistake of my life. I don't ever want to review a business to harm them but I really think they need to take some feedback and implement that into their business. I ordered a gender reveal cake, something small and simple and specifically told them to make sure the writing on the cake was done neatly as I remember one of the previous cakes I had gotten the writing was not neat. The person taking my order asked me if I'd like whip outside or buttercream and I asked what they recommended because I'd only done buttercream before and they said if you're doing whip inside then it's fine to do whip outside. I said ok. Placed my order and went in to pick it up. As soon as I saw the cake I was horrified. The writing was so sloppy and so was the cake. It was as if I made the cake myself. I asked them to fix the writing on top at least. They said ok the baker will fix it. She brings it outside and said it's whip so I can't do much but buttercream would be better (it was worse than when she had taken it inside) I said ok you can do it in buttercream no problem. Brings it back outside and it's still sloppier than ever. I said this is not neat at all, and she said well it's what I can do it looks just like the picture. I said no it does not ( I will attach the picture for reference) and the baker goes "well what can I do this is how I write?" In that moment I just knew they were not willing to help at all. I had already paid in full for the cake so I took it and left. Come home to see that this is supposed to be a gender reveal cake and you can LITERALLY see the icing inside the cake from outside. It doesn't matter if you pay $40 for a cake or $100+ you should be getting what you requested. This was a simple cake that they completely ruined. When I texted her the picture I emphasized that I'd like the writing to be as neat as possible, and I was reassured it would be. Also, if you as the professional know whip won't work as well, why not call the customer and discuss with them prior to ruining the product you are providing. The excuses did not make sense. I will not be returning. And I hope they can take this feedback and improve their cake decorating process. The cake went to waste and we had to improvise last minute. read more

I can only comment on the food that I was able to try here. I sampled their San Remo cake and a St Joseph Zeppole. The San Remo cake was moist and sweet. There was plenty of different flavors because of the numerous layers that were present. There was a definitely a chocolate and raspberry layer. I am not sure of the others. The St. Joseph Zeppole was unbelievable. There was plenty of filling and the pastry as a whole was cooked to perfection. The cream filling was not that sweet, but somewhat on the lighter side as well. The pastry as a whole was large too. Will I go back? I did not attend, but I attend. read more

I bought a large napoleon pastry as well as cookies for Honey nails next door for Xmas, and a large Raspberry hamentashen. The hamentashen was ok but the napoleon was inedible. It was completely flat, hard and cream was not cream it was solid. I am taking the napoleon back to the store tomorrow for refund I just hope the cookies were not stale too. read more

Have been before and things were decent which is why I am giving a 2 instead of 1 star. I got a St. Joseph Pastry which should have been called BURNING CINNAMON ATTACK instead. At $6 for one, it does not make sense why the cream would be filled with cinnamon until my mouth is burning. This did not taste like custard but like a Red Hot or Fireball. Is this even supposed to have cinnamon? Especially that much????? You could not see specks of cinnamon either, so I wonder if they flavor it with cinnamon oil. Also, the cherry on top was only 1/2 of a maraschino cherry. That's plainly cheap to do to your customers. Saw the other review where a lady had a bug in her lobster claw. Will not be returning. Ambiance is just that it's a small, nice looking bakery. read more

I called so many bakeries looking for a custom cake and only Amato's was able to provide me a cake that not only looked beautiful, tasted delicious, but was also reasonably priced. Ordering was easy. I showed them a picture of exactly what I wanted and chose the flavor (tres leches with fresh strawberries) and they took care of the rest! I would highly recommend this for any custom cakes you have because the quality really speaks for itself and you won't be disappointed with the taste. We got 2 cakes made from here- one for our gender reveal and another one for our baby shower. Both the times we picked the design from the internet and the baker was able to exactly replicate it! It looked perfect and tasted amazing. All of our guests loved it. The prices were also very reasonable compared to other bakery shops, and they even considered our tight timelines. I originally ordered from Amato because the price was great and the cannoli that I tasted was delicious so I knew that the cannoli cream filling would be good. The saying, you get what you pay for is so true. Although I got a great deal, the cake design was a little disappointing. It looked rushed and like the little details weren't cared for. I ordered a half a sheet cake for my daughter's engagement party and the girl was very helpful with what kind of cake and decorations so it was going to look very elegant, however when we picked the cake up it looked like a kindergarten had written the writing on it. When I called to complain they said that the person who picked it up signed off on it but regardless it did not look professional when I saw it in person and was embarrassed to put it out for all of my guests to see. What a terrible experience. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and came back after a previous bad experience. bad decision on my part. I should've just stayed away. First the place looks dirty and run down. The pastry, all though it's fresh, looks sub par. They look like a kid made them. Nothing is "crisp" looking. It all looks like it was made in grandmas kitchen. My bad experience was on Christmas. I walked in and the guy in front of me ordered a cake. The girl rang him up at $24 dollars and I watched because that's the cake I wanted. I was next and ordered. I got the old unpleasant woman helping me. She then rang me up at $30 dollars. I questioned her on it and she quickly became unable to understand English. She kept saying something to me in broken Italian/English which became harder to understand the more I questioned. It's a typical Sicilian response. It was Christmas and rather than make a scene I paid for my cake, 6 bucks more than the previous customer (9" bakery cake for $30 dollars. Lol) and went on my way.
