hibachi is always a fun experience with the interactive chef. service was overall fine, but the food was just okay. it was a great value and i was satisfied with the size of my plate. however, i felt like the fried rice, steak, and shrimp needed a lot more salt and flavor. i was also not a fan of the cucumber cooler; it had an odd taste to it similar to cardboard (weird). it is a very cute spot right up on the water with an upstairs view. i'd come again but would need to try different items. read more

I came here with my family we ordered a steak, salmon, California rolls and we didn't have a great experience. The food was dry, old and seemed like that had cooked the food in an air fryer. The sticky rice was dry and almost stale, the shrimp tempura we ordered seems like it was food from a gas station. The service was alright we had a funny waiter but he forgot our order for the drinks and would tend to mix up orders and we had to correct him. The ambience is quite nice I expected better as for the food but this is not a restaurant to take the huzz (spouses) to. Would I come again? The service is fast, friendly, and attentive. The servers are great at answering questions and always offer solid recommendations, whether it's sushi, entrees, or drinks. Speaking of which, their cocktails are well-crafted and worth trying (my friend enjoyed the lychee martini as I recall). This place has a consistently pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, and it's clear they care about both food and hospitality. This is the second time me and my family had ate at this place and it's always good! The prices are a little high, but it makes sense because the food is really good and it's sushi of course. Inside there's two separate places for you to sit. You can either sit in the regular area or at the hibachi grill. The view from the inside is amazing since it faces the ocean, and when I went it was nice and quiet. Our server was nice and for the roe bowl (i'm not sure what it's called), he let us know not to put too much sauce on it for the most enjoyable experience. I ordered the Best of the Best sushi roll and the presentation was cool. While it did take a while for the flames to die down, the roll was pretty good in the end. The bulgogi was just okay, but they put a Mexican seasoning blend on the vegetables for some reason and it did not go well together. Wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't recommend it and I would only come back if I was forced to come back. It was our first time to the area and at your restaurant the other night. Beautiful restaurant, amazing food, and we were sat at one of the best tables overlooking the boats. But, the waiter was only a one star in my opinion. He had no personality at all, he made us feel rushed, he wasn't listening to me so, I told my husband to order for me so I wouldn't have to embarrass your passive aggressive waiter and make him cry. Seems like he has worked there for quite a while since he had a massive arrogance about him, strutting around like he owned the place. I would have loved to put him in his place but, I was too tired after walking six miles round trip on the beach from our hotel to dine exclusively at your restaurant. We went to Sapporo this evening for a sushi fix and really enjoyed the food, and the views to the wharf. We ordered espresso martinis and tempura squid to start our evening off. Both were tasty. Our server was attentive and pleasant. We ordered two special rolls, the Seaside and the Hot Night. Both were fresh and well made. Very flavorful. We also ordered a sashimi dish called Mr. October: 5 slices of hamachi with jalapeño and sriracha in a ponzu sauce. Very yummy! This was a solid sushi experience as we continue to get to know the dining scene on the Monterey Peninsula. Sapporo has a large menu, so we will come back to try more fresh fish and some of their Asian dishes (not only Japanese, but Korean dishes as well). read more

Perhaps this is a plea to the owner to please turn on the air conditioner to this place. It was so unpleasant to enjoy a great meal when you're eating in a sauna. I looked like a drench Tom Cruise in Top Gun after playing volleyball, so I was told. The sushi is decent and the spicy squid has good flavor so for that alone I give four stars all day everyday, just minus one star for the uncomfortable eating environment. Love this place and we often go at lunch. There's two sides to it. There's the regular restaurant where the bar is where you just go order off the menu and then the second side of it is where they have the cooking stations where they do all the tricks with the food and people sit in large groups around the Cook and watch and entertain. We've done that a couple times it's a bit expensive. It's fun for a celebration and to take the kids at least once but otherwise we stick to the menu side of the of the building. I love their fresh seaweed salad. It comes with some very thinly grated long strips of daikon radish it's a beautiful presentation and it's very delicious. Their Agi Dashie, which is a favorite of mine is cut a little bit too large for my taste because I have to break it up with my chopsticks in order to eat it. I prefer the smaller squares of tofu. It is nicely fried and crispy on the outside and the Dashi sauce is very good. Their bento box includes rice, salad, miso soup, Gyoza, calamari, salmon, or shrimp tempura with choice of chicken or beef $16.95. Their Japanese curry with protein choice and vegetables served over rice is a nice thick flavorful sauce not spicy but very tasty. $15.95. They have tons of hand rolls, sushi, sashimi, etc. That all depends on what your particular tastes are whether you like them cooked or raw but there's something there for everyone so I'm not going to go into a lot of detail about that. I do know that every time I've been there the seafood is extremely fresh and tastes like the ocean, never fishy. Their cocktails are also unique if a little pricey. I love the Japanese maid, which is $17 but a very unique blend of flavors. Nice punch for a buzz too. Best of all is the view you cannot beat the view in the menu dining room. There's almost always seats available right at the windows, but even if you don't sit at the window, the views are spectacular. Looking out over the sparkling Pacific ocean of the Monterey Bay with the Marina, right there sprawled out outside the restaurant windows. It's great people watching sometimes we get to see the youth crew from the yacht club in little tiny sailboats learning how to paddle around in the marina. It's a nice place to take a walk after you eat down the commercial wharf looking over the side and spotting sea stars otters, seal lions . For a more touristy walk, you can head over about half a block to the Monterey Fishermans wharf where you can mosey down the wharf people watch get something for dessert from the candy store or the ice cream store and just enjoy your time in Monterey. This restaurant is a great spring board for that. I give it four stars, despite the good food the good view and a good customer service because it has a large amount of stairs that you have to walk up to get in there, the elevator for the disabled is not easy to find unless you have had it pointed out to you. Handicap parking is available, but it's still a walk into the place. I know they can't take the stairs away, but I wish they would make the elevator a little bit easier to find. read more

The food came out a bit slow, we only ordered sushi, and rolls, and amaebi and desert, but yeah it was a little slow, and even when we finished we had to look and ask for our server to order desert and even longer to pay the bill. The food was ok, and the green tea desert was not sweet or just didn't have a lot of flavor. The ambience and view was really nice, but we left just not feeling the food was memorable for what we expected. I had never been to a hibachi before so I was excited to check it out. We arrived with no reservation on a saturday and didn't have to wait too long as we were there a little earlier, maybe 20minute wait ( arrived around 5pm- it looked like a longer wait when we were leaving). We were seated at a table with a few other birthdays which was fun as we got to see the waiters sing happy birthday at the table (pretty sure every table had a birthday it seemed like- lots of celebrations and birthday songs sang across the room) The waiters were friendly- took our order quickly as we waited for the hibachi chef to arrive to the table. They have a lot of tables for the chefs to move around so you have to wait our turn when they are ready. We got the poki salad, starfish roll and the steak and scallops dinner. All bigger portions than we expected- ended up leaving with leftovers- the poki salad was really big with lots of fresh sashimi and lettuce, good chunky sized sushi roll also- nice flavors in both and the fish tasted fresh. The steak and scallops dinner was served by the hibachi chef at the table- great energy and he had us laughing with some of his food jokes- got the whole table involved with throwing food into your mouth (i missed it- but was good fun trying to catch it) Fried rice was very tasty- good steak and scallops also, the veggies maybe could have cooked a little longer they were a little crunchy. I rarely post Yelp reviews and I feel compelled to give Sapporo's a 5 star review because of Miguel the Bartender. Excellent service. He is a class act on how to get more customers and exhibit customer retention. For context, my fiancé and I have been here several times a few years ago and didn't have the best experience. However, we started going in more frequently as we had weekly softball games at one of the fields nearby. After the second or third time we went to the bar, Miguel knew our drink order and what we liked for dinner. He truly is a gem to this well established restaurant on the Monterey Peninsula. As locals, Miguel is the reason we'll be returning. Their amazing spicy garlic edamame and potstickers are the cherry on top. Go see Miguel, he is the best! read more
