This review is about the FOOD. (yes, great beer selection you can't get elsewhere in town, but let's talk about the FOOD.) Went there on a Friday night at 7 pm when it was just starting to get busy. STAFF was very knowledgeable and very friendly, kudos. Here's what we ordered, and it wasn't the burger (which apparently is great?):
3 little pigs: app of 3 pulled pork & coleslaw sliders. We know our BBQ, and this ain't it. "Just okay" - amongst 4 of us, only 2 of the sliders were eaten, which should tell you something. Bland.
Eggs nest: app of 3 hard boiled eggs with yolks removed & sitting in a pool of sauce created from pureed yolks with paprika & other spices. Points for innovation & it looked great. Tasted average.
Organic chicken wings: app of about 7 smaaaalll buffalo wings. Average. If you're a wing man you'll be happier at Hooters, honestly.
Potato pierogies: WINNER! 3 large pierogies, soft on the inside, slightly fried-crisp around the edges, sour cream & friend onions. A lot of others ordered this dish, I'm not surprised, they were excellent.
Lamb meatloaf w tomato glaze & mashed pot: World's smallest meatloaf, moist but that's about it. Not impressive at all with spices, texture or anything, and it needed the spicy tomato sauce (not a glaze, it was a sauce poured over the slices of loaf). Mashed potatoes were average. (And I love me my Lamb! boo hoo)
Braised pork shank with cous cous: now, it says "smoked" on the menu, and we LIKE smoked. We're huge BBQ fans, travel around for it, watch it on TV, go to the Big Apple BBQ festival & others every year. My husband who loves pork & all things smoked could barely eat the huge shank they gave him (great portion). The meat was tender, but WAY TOO SMOKEY. It was like they poured Liquid Smoke on it - it overpowered and ruined the taste of the berkshire pork. Couscous was out of a box with water and overcooked (I make better at home, how was that possible?)
Lobster roll: nice large bun, medium-sized hunks of lobster, average taste.
Hot Dog special of the day: hot dog topped with chili, cheddar cheese, bacon, hot cherry peppers & sour cream. We thought this was going to be amazing. It simply wasn't. The dog didn't have any snap, and the toppings were again overpowering the flavor of the dog and not too impressively. Meh. Give me a street dog in NYC.
So, 4 Foodies who dine all over LI and Manhattan went to dinner here on a Friday night and NONE of us finished our meals - every plate had food left on it (very odd for us). There are so many wonderful places to be Wow'd by food in Huntington or Northport and we wouldn't waste our time here again.
Unless you're going for straight beer & pierogies, skip it. Pics available on my website (see left side bar). read more
