Sarah Akram was my die hard facialist in Washington D.C. until recently. Customer service has clearly taken a backseat. I booked a facial for January 12 almost 2 months in advance (November 20) for a huge event. I got a voicemail saying my facialist could no longer do that appointment time in December. When I called back to reschedule my appointment they offered no times that were before my event (January 20). When I mentioned that the facial was for a large event their response was "well we book far in advance". I know this fact considering A) I booked this facial 2 months in advance and B) I've received over 6 facials at Sarah Akram. I am extremely disappointed in the customer service considering I've been seeing my facialist for almost 2 years and I've been a loyal customer. I booked a facial at Ovme West End as I need one before my large event. Really sad. read more

Update: my friend reached out to the owner on my behalf and told them about my experience. Sarah reached out and apologized and credited my services should I ever come back. Customer service goes a long way and I appreciate the attempt to rectify the experience. Came here because I saw a post from Cynthia Bailey on Instagram when she was in town. Now anyone who knows Ms Bailey knows her skin is flawless. A good girlfriend of mine and I decided to give this place a try. The good: easy location - right in Old Town, Alexandria; pretty decor, hostess/reception desk very friendly. The bad: my aesthetician was late and no one said anything to me. Granted it was only 20 minutes but I guess my expectation of such a swanky place would be that they would let you know. The place seemed busy at the time so I'll give it a pas. Plus my friend was actually taken right away. Once my aesthetician finished with a previous client, she called me up and she apologized for the tardiness so all good. Once I get dressed and comfy for my facial like she instructed, she went right to work. I think that would've been great if I had been there before, but I hadn't. She didn't ask me about my skin or go over my forms with me before starting. As she's putting creams on my face, then she starts asking me questions that honestly, if she had read the information I provided, she would've known. She didn't ask in depth questions so really there was no value in completing the form. As she's putting product on my face, if it tingled or felt weird, I had to ask if it was supposed to feel like that. Never pre-warned me at all. Afterward, she didn't walk me downstairs or provide me any samples. My friend on the other hand, she had a bag of samples and when we talked seemed her experience was completely different than mine. Like I said, everyone seemed nice, I think it just wasn't a right fit for me...I typically go to the spa to get/feelpampered and just couldn't really get into it here. I had an incredible relaxing but also very thorough Crystal blast facial with Brittany. I would highly recommend her services and this spa to anyone! The location is very convenient in Old Town, and the spa's design is gorgeous and welcoming. I have had multiple facial services here (Sculpt and Lift LED and Crystal Blast) and keep coming back. The attention to detail and customization to suit your skin type is greatly appreciated. I also love how they will explain the different steps and take your lead as to whether you would like to chat or just enjoy the service in silence. The spa tables/beds are so comfortable and plush, with what I believe is a heated blanket underneath. So cozy in the winter! Just what you would expect from a high end spa. I had a great facial experience with Julia. My skin was unusually irritated and breaking out recently and the signature facial she definitely calmed my skin and she helped me figure out some short term products to get my skin back on track! I will definitely be coming back to her. One of the products I purchased was a BR serum, which is a bit pricy, but they forgot to give me the dropper lid that is affixed to the bottle. While traveling without the dropper, the entire contents of the brand new serum bottle spilled out and I was so disappointed. I called the spa and the manager was so kind and offered to replace the bottle for me. I definitely recommend both the services and the wonderful customer service :) read more

I made an appointment through their website about 2 months in advance and didn't note it in my calendar, assuming since they required my credit card and email address that I would receive a confirmation for my appointment as well as a reminder within a week of the appointment. No email or text was sent until after the appointment--which I missed--when I was advised they would charge my credit card for the cancelled facial. read more

If I could give zero stars after my recent experience I would. I have received multiple services here since the start of the year, and after my last visit I was scheduled for another visit 3 months later. At that time, I was unsure about the specific dates, but I was scheduled anyway. This past week the scheduled date came up, however, I work in a secured facility and can't access phone or emails during the day. I attempted to cancel the morning of the appointment, but was still charged the full amount of the service. The cancellation policy is quite strict, and not well explained to customers prior to scheduling a service. The cherry on top was the receptionist who was so rude when I called trying to remedy. The message is that Sarah Akram Skincare is inflexible, rude, and unless you have status then they won't want to work with you. read more

I got an amazing hydrafacial here yesterday from Betty. She gave me great advice on how to handle my rosacea while giving the treatment. She is very knowledgeable and answered all my question. Booked an appt here kind of last minute and they still had good availability. We started with a phone consultation first so ensure I was selecting the most beneficial facial for my needs and they were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. When I came in for my service, they were very nice and accommodating. I did not have to wait after filling in my forms and was directed right to my room. She asked me if I'd prefer no talking but I asked her to walk me through what she was doing and she explained everything throughly but still had a peaceful and relaxing tone so I was still in the zone. She made sure with the micro current that it wasn't painful and made sure settings were appropriate. I have a lip ring so I was getting some extra tingles near my mouth haha so she adjusted. And the music they played was literally phenomenal it elevated the experience. I actually need to ask them for the playlist lol. I did the SA luxury experience and omg it really works. Right after I noticed a line that had started forming in between my eyebrows disappear and my cheeks were plumper so my frown lines were gone. My light acne looked less inflamed and overall skin looked refreshed. Next day I FaceTimed my girls and they were asking why I looked so fancy they thought I had on make up but no Christine just rejuvenated my face! Highly recommend. read more

I really wanted to like this spa, mainly b/c I am new-ish to the DMV area, having moved here from living abroad in London and then in New York. I was looking for a really good facialist and love BR products, so was hoping this would be a match for me. Unfortunately, my experience w/ Amanda was mediocre at best. I started out explaining my skin history / preferences / why I came in and she seemed tired and disinterested. She also seemed slightly annoyed although most good estheticians are smart enough to know that the more info the customer provides from the get-go, the better you can tailor it for them. The facial began with a very rough massage on my face w/ some kind of oil but there wasn't enough product used so it felt very dry. She kept pulling my face so that my eyes kept flipping up when they were closed and supposed to be closed for the face cleansing part. The rest of the experience was not that great either. She did extractions and although I told her that my nose was the most congested at that point, it was like all she did were extractions from there b/c when I went home, I still had so many areas that were not taken care of. In fact, I ended up breaking out on my chin the day after this facial. I also had some irritation on my face in the areas where she did go heavy with the extraction, and I've never had that happen. I actually called to ask if this was normal b/c I have sensitive skin and wanted to make sure it wasn't going to develop into some allergic reaction. They said this was "normal" and that Amanda would get back to me w tips on home care / other ideas. She never got back to me. If you have just normal skin, and no issues like acne, aging, scarring, etc. then a facial here would be fine b/c you don't need to be that skilled to do a regular facial. But if you're looking to have a great facial experience, w/ someone who is super knowledgeable about different skin types (different ethnicities) and leave glowing, and clean, this was not it. Amanda didn't seem to know how to handle my skin. Suffice it to say I will not be returning. Super disappointing experience. Maybe if you've never had great facials, this is a good "starter" facial b/c they're not going to scar your face or anything crazy, but this is subpar based on my experience having received facials in London, Paris, and NYC.
