This was my first visit to Sarah Donuts. It was on a top doughnuts in Atlanta list, and I realized that this location was only a few miles from my house. I arrived early on a Saturday morning, so there were plenty of doughnuts to choose from. Overall, the doughnuts were much better than your run of the mill Dunkin Donuts, but not as fancy as some of the high end shops in Atlanta. However, their prices are great (as low as 89 cents) and the owner was very friendly. I tried the jelly filled doughnut (which they fill right in front of you) along with the red velvet cake and maple bacon yeast doughnut, and they were all fresh and delicious. I tried a bite of a sausage roll, but I wasn't a fan. I'll definitely be back in the future. read more

I'm almost embarrassed to say that despite living in CSD for the past 10+ years I didn't find out about this gem of a donut shop until shortly before COVID. Walking into the shop the sweet smell of fresh doughnuts draws you to the counter. I couldn't have just one so I tried three different types--the bacon maple, the apple fritter, and the blueberry glazed. The bacon was perfectly cooked. The doughnut itself is so soft it almost melts in your mouth. The apple fritter wasn't as dense as I was expecting and was generously infused with cinnamon. The consistency of the blueberry glazed variety was almost like a spongey muffin--also lighter than I had anticipated. All three were really good and left me confident that I'd be heading back to try more. read more

The apple fritter is bomb, best in Atlanta for sure! I took my mom here recently... Typically, she is generous with letting me taste some of what she ordered and vice versa, but she ordered an apple fritter here. And when I asked her if I could try some, she responded with a mouthful of fritter: "I don't really want to give you any... it's too good!!" (She acquiesced eventually, but it required some extended wheedling.) But yes, this place has jumped up to my favorite donut shop in the ATL for striking that fine balance between taste (particularly for the beautifully executed basic donuts), ambience, service, and value for what you pay. read more

Came in for the dozen for a dollar deal for their grand opening this morning. Lines were significant, but moved fairly quickly, while staff warmly welcomed people at the entrance. We were recommended their blueberry donut, and had 4 of them in the box we received. True to their word, they were pretty phenomenal, with an ever slight crispy outer bite, and fluffy innards to match, alongside a flavor profile that was just right- not too sweet, but not bland by any means. The chocolate donuts with sprinkles were made with just as much care, and had the same textured bite that is at once pleasant and scrumptious. These guys make their donuts fresh every morning starting at 3AM...if that's not dedication...I don't know what is. In short, I'm thinking this place is going to be a win. Will definitely be back. Easily beats Dunkin' or any other chain for that matter. I'll probably come out here to grab donuts for my lab meetings...LOL. read more

Mmh, donuts. Finally was able to check it out. I don't like cake donuts but these...pretty good! Slightly crispy on the outside but still soft and fluffy on the inside. Love their donuts. I only wish they loved their customers as much . . . Today, I went in to pick up an order I placed in advance and they told me they didn't receive an advance order. I had to read the phone number I called back to them at which point the gentleman I was speaking with fished my crumpled order out of the trash and told me they "misplaced" it. They then offered me a free donut, which did not solve the problem, as the order was for my co-workers and was larger than one donut would cover. I ended up having to go to Publix and pick up some donuts so I wouldn't show up empty handed. I placed an advance order at the same location three weeks ago with no issue, so this Jekyll-Hyde method of customer service is baffling. Again, great donuts, but if you order ahead, I'd recommend a backup plan. read more

I've had the sour cream, blueberry cake, red velvet cake, and cinnamon cake donuts. They were all good but nothing amazing. I did find the red velvet glaze donut to be a step above the others though. The prices are quite cheap especially compared to the specialty/gourmet donut shops in Atlanta (each one I got was under a dollar). I don't live particularly close to Sarah Donuts so coming here was about a 20 minute drive. If I'm going to drive out of my way for donuts they need to be more than just good. These weren't which is why I'll only go back if I'm in the area. I'd recommend them to people who live close by though. They're a solid option for good, cheap donuts. If the location isn't convenient for you, the donuts aren't good enough to warrant driving out of your way for them in my opinion. read more

Been to Sarah many times, while not incredibly fancy the donuts are flavorful, well made and appropriately prIced, unlike their competitors in Decatur like Revolution Donuts. They have a few unique items like the Sunflower and the Sausage Roll. Both of them are outstanding and compliment a lineup of good cake and raised yeast donuts. Their apple fritters are humongous, well balanced and very tasty. Overall this is by far the best donut shop in Decatur. I wish they would stay open longer. read more

The very best sour cream donut EVER! Honestly that's the only donut I enjoy and this one stomps a mudhole in dunkin' and Krispy simultaneously!!! Perfectly crispy edges just like I like it. Second trip to Sarah donuts and we will keep coming back! My daughter and I pass it all the time in the car and we decided to drop by about 2 weeks ago. We were VERY impressed with the helpful gentleman behind the counter. He welcomed us as new customers and allowed us to try a donut on the house! All the donuts were fresh and delicious and I love how they fill the cream and jelly ones as you order. One of the other reasons I'll be visiting again is because this isn't an ultra-fancy $5 "gourmet" donut with so much going on you can't taste anything. Sarah Donuts is the only reason I stop myself from snoozing my alarm in the mornings. I had them for the first time at work and upon taking my first bite, I knew I had to find out where my colleague had ordered from. A few days later, I woke up extra early to drop by before work and I've been back twice ever since. I love donuts and I'm so glad Sarah doesn't have all the extra shenanigans like Sublime, VooDoo, etc. Sarah's donuts are a perfect balance of sweet and moist. OMG, these are the best donuts I've ever had! 1st of all this place is very addicting! So let me just say I'm so glad that the place closes at 2pm and is not open on Sundays or else I would be in big trouble! I was there a few days ago and got something that looked like a big 3D star! It was a 3D cinnamon rolls! It had lil finger size peices all over it that you could pull off of it and dip into your coffee, cocoa or milk! I love the clean taste that these donuts have and they don't leave that greasy aftertaste in your mouth like most donuts do! Ok, once you bite into a Sarah's donut there is a flash of lights that goes off in the back of your head that let's you know that you are biting into something good! I also had a sour cream donut and it was just as good as the cinnamon 3D star! Oh and another thing, I ate my goodies 2 days later and they were just as good as the day I bought them! This place is a must try if you are looking for a good donut that taste good and doesn't leave that greasy aftertaste in your mouth! I consider myself somewhat of a doughnut connoisseur, or at least a very enthusiastic fan. There are many good doughnut places in Atlanta, some on the fancier more creative side and some on the more traditional. Sarah Donuts falls in the latter category. But as far as traditional donuts go, they do them better than anyone else in Atlanta. The donuts are always perfectly crisp on the outside an airy in the middle. I believe I have tried everyone at this point and my go-tos are the apple fritter, sunflower, maple bar and the cruller. But honestly they have all been good. read more

One good thing is they offer the same flavors in both cake batter and regular donut batter. This is a good option, because I do not prefer cake batter. read more

Ok. The donuts at this location are tasteless. I tried the cinnamon cake and red velvet donuts and they were both tasteless bread. The glaze, cinnamon and sugar were good, but the donuts alone were tasteless and not good at all. HOWEVER, the Sarah Donuts on Jimmy Carter Blvd never disappoints. A location just opened near me and I thought I would pick up a few to try with my family. They are simple but delicious! Their dough is light and fluffy so you don't feel as bad about eating a donut. Not too sweet either. I had a red velvet and also tastes their apple fritter, both of which were delicious. The owner was sweet too! There was some extra space in my box so she threw in a few donut holes. This is not the place if you want expensive fancy bougie doughnuts. These are outstanding doughnuts! In terms of doughnut fans, it seems like there are folks who are into elaborate and esoteric doughnuts, where the toppings are often more important than the doughnut (ie no texture to the doughnut). I am not one of those people. This is not Sublime or Revolution, so just understand that before going. These are old fashioned cake doughnuts that are done really well. The range of things I've tried has been great including fritters, twists and the classic doughnut flavors. Nothing crazy in terms of toppings, and all done very well. The crust is nice and crisp with great texture, the top is not overly glazed/sugared, and the dough is just heavy enough to not fall apart. Glazed, sour cream, blueberry and the fritters are fan favorites at home. The staff are also lovely and it's kid friendly. I take my toddler with me on occasion and they always give him a "special treat" (his label) of doughnut holes or something bite sized to keep him occupied and happy. He loves going! Finally, the price is very reasonable for great doughnuts in a convenient location. I wish we could go on Sundays too, but everyone needs a day off. A terrific addition to the neighborhood! read more
