I've been eyeing Sarai Bakery Panaderia for a while after seeing locals hype it up in the group chat and I'm so glad I finally stopped in. As of February 2026, the exterior is currently under construction, which makes this spot feel extra unassuming but don't be fooled. They are open! This is the type of spot where you order at the counter and they'll give you a number to be seated. If you are dining in they will bring the plate to your table which is nice. The staff were incredibly kind and I even got to brush up on my Spanish :) Pro tip: CASH ONLY. The menu is HUGE. I already know I'll be back for lunch because the tacos and micheladas looked very tempting. I came in for breakfast though, so that was my focus on this visit. I ordered the rojo chilaquiles, no meat, with an over-medium egg and this dish was a 10/10. The red sauce (almost orange) was packed with flavor without being spicy (a kindness I appreciated at 10am), and the tortilla chips somehow stayed perfectly crunchy. Texturally? A dream. This was one of the best chilaquiles dishes I've had in a very long time, especially in the 805 so I'll definitely be back for these again soon. Portions were perfect and while the dish was simple, it was well executed. I washed it all down with a refreshing jamaica agua fresca. Last note: don't skip the dessert counter. I left with a flan cake, and next time I'm trying their chocoflan hybrid (highly recommended by the staff). Came by this combination bakery and taco shop on TO Blvd and decided to try it out. The interior is large and has a lot of seating. It was pretty full on a weekday evening. Service was very friendly but extremely slow and it took a long time for the food to come out. There's a self serve salsa bar although they are a bit skimpy on the sauce places. We got six tacos and a beef soup. The beef soup was an unexpected favorite. The serving was a quart for 13.99 and came with strong flavors and packed with veggies and meat. The tacos were tasty but didn't really stand out. They were generously sized but also a bit pricey so it evened out. The meats were tender but a little under seasoned. I should probably do two separate reviews since this place is two great Businesses under one roof. Parking was tricky as we decided to go at 11:00 am (brunch) parking lot was kinda full. But we found a spot in no time. Upon entering your eyes quickly notice the full case of fresh Mexican Breads! So distracting as I struggled to choose from the menu of delicious Mexican dishes. ( grab a to-go menu if you'd like some English translations for the dishes) The two young ladies at the counter did not have strong English and my Spanish is embarrassing. They Called Jose to help us with our order Friendly and patiently. With his help I decided on the Machaca Breakfast Burrito & My Husband got the Asada Burrito. Self seating we sat and we're brought a bowl of fresh warm tortilla chips, and a little bowl of salsa. Try not to fill up on that. It was so good. As we waited for our food, the little restaurant quickly filled up with hungry patrons! Got our meal in less than five minutes and it did not disappoint!! I discovered this place when my car broke down and I was able to get it into the parking lot. the food speaks for itself even if I'm not 100% sure what it is I'm eating. The burritos make a Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon seem small, but more important, each variety tastes great. The tacos I have had in the past were tortillas wrapped around excellence. I cannot claim to be an expert on Mexican pastries, but I can confidently state that the conchas here are some of the best I have ever had. For Tuesday, was expecting their usual Taco Tuesday deals but apparently they don't have it anymore- was definitely disappointed. I ordered the al pastor, carne asada, lengua, cabeza, tripas, cochinita and chicharron tacos (all $2 each for street tacos). Cabeza tacos were the best, second being lengua, third being al pastor. There were a few other customers there as well but it took 30 minutes for the order to be ready. (Way too long for tacos) I have never waited so long just for street tacos. Stopped here today to buy some pastries. Typical mexican bakery with cases of fresh baked goods that you pick out for yourself with tongs. Small, clean location. CASH ONLY! I wasn't expecting this and I had to scrounge around to come up with the money for the pastries I'd already selected. The woman behind the counter was polite. Food was all right. I prefer my favorite place in Oxnard, but this one is okay - better than most in my opinion. I say this as someone who likes pastries very sweet. Traditional Mexican bakeries do not seem to put a lot of sugar in their cookies and cakes. This place does good. I tried the thing that looks like a giant flattened cinnamon roll (crispy and nicely sweet), a thing that looks like a giant palmier cookie and a coconut macaroon that was cooked very dark. The coconut macaroon was the best and I would recomend them to anyone. Only downside was that although it was dark, it was not crisp on the edges. It was entirely soft. The flavor was great though. The giant flat cinnamon roll looking thing was very tasty. I've had better, but this one was good enough. I only took a bite of the palmier cookie. I didn't like this one. It was sweet enough, but the dough wasn't what I was hoping for. I don't think I'll go back, but if I really had to have a Mexican pastry and I had cash on hand, I might consider it. 2 giant flat pastries + 3 coconut macaroons = $2.75. Good price. This place honestly went from being my go to spot to not even want to return. Every Saturday I place the same order over the phone and I get the same rude service. When I arrive I give the name of the order I pick up and it's not even made. Then they ask me for the name of the order then proceed to ask me what was the order? I'm confused because why take an order over the phone and not have it ready upon arrival? It's always an issue with the cashiers that run the front it's as almost like they don't want to work and based on my recent visits but today, today really did it. Placed order over the phone and of course same result except this time my order that contained pork fillings inside of a bolio wasn't even placed in a plastic bag to avoid cross contamination with the counter etc etc. the girl grabs it and just tosses it on the counter and the bolio touching the counter and as I got to pick it up it' wasn't even warmed up. I could've had a reaction but it's not worth it. She just looks at me. If the owner gets to read this I have some advice. Fire your entire front counter staff they're all incompetent. You have a great selection of food but when it comes to your front staff they are useless. Can't even take a simple phone order let alone have the food properly packed. read more

Ordered a combo plate made up of three tacos rice and beans with a side of Mexican Coke. Carnitas, Asada, and Pastor for the meat. The meat was plenty, the salsa bar flavorful, and the sides savory. The Asada and Pastor could've been a little more moist but the flavor was on point. Up until now I had a hard time finding legitimate "Street Tacos" in Westlake. I'm originally from the San Gabriel Valley so I'm used to ordering tacos that are flavorful, moist, and greasy. All of the things that make great tacos. Sarai's tacos reminded me so much of the tacos from trucks and the curbside stalls back home. I was really expecting this one to be more like the other Sarai than it was. It's got a surprising amount of room to walk around in the middle, and both seem to have high amounts of selection, but this one really didn't seem to have some of the fancier items (by panaderia standards) available that were at the other location. What's odd is that I was taken aback by the six or so flavors of empanada at Francis Bakery Panaderia while this Sarai seems to have at least eight. It also has something I've never seen in a panaderia: seating. They have two tables outside that each seat four. The system is the one with tongs and trays with no plastic. I'm still pretty weirded out by this, because it seems like an obvious sanitation risk. Apart from the empanadas, the selection's pretty standard panaderia except that they gravitate more toward the sweet breads that taste kind of like an egg bagel instead of some of the drier ones. They've also got a case of drinks and some sort of coffee machine which might do more complicated drinks like a gas station cappuccino. I got one of the mango empanadas and an apple danish that had that sort of egg bagel-like thing going on and was vaguely bear claw-shaped. I was really expecting the danish's dough to taste softer than it did, and really it was a bit plain. The empanada's dough was surprisingly hard, meaning to the point you could hear my teeth hit this thing. As before, though, Sarai does a great job with the fillings, especially the apple one, but in both cases the filling was used too sparingly. In rating this a 3 instead of a 2, I'm assuming that the taste difference between the locations was caused by me trying different items instead of the two locations baking differently (so this is essentially a downgrade for the chain). read more
