One thing I was not expecting from Lousiville was authentic SE Asian food. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon Sarap Filipino in this food hall! I excitedly ordered the lechon kawali and chicken adobo with garlic rice, pancit, and lumpia. The pork was expertly cooked and lechon sauce was the perfect amount of sweet and savory. The adobo was serviceable but the pancit was the best thing on the plate; I wished there was more of it. The lumpia was disappointing both in flavor and portion. For the price I found the portions to be very small. You can see in the photo roughly $30 worth of food fit into one of those large trays you might find nachos in at a high school football game. Definitely a cool spot with good Filipino food. I got the fried pork belly with fried egg and lumpia. The pork belly comes with either rice or fried noodles. I got the rice. It also comes with fresh fruit pineapple and blood orange. The rice was a bit over cooked mushy but not too bad the fruit add a nice bit sweetness to a savory dish. The pork belly was nice and crunchy but was still tender after biting into it. A generous portion too which is always great. It is also served with fried vegetables which adds a great level texture to the rice. The lumpia a fried egg roll essentially Filipino style. I got a beef one. The lumpia itself does it for me! Whether crossing their food truck or now their spot in the Village Market, I can't say no to ordering it, even when I want to try another spot for my main entree. Last night my lumpia was very flavorful and the dipping sauce had a good kick to it. My husband also ordered the chicken adobo over noodles and another dish with beef over rice, topped with vegetables. Personally, I'd recommend the rice base as I find the noodles to be bland and take away from the meats and sauces. We came to the Village market as a group of 8 looking for some dinner. We loved the selection here. Well a couple of us found out the hidden gem here is at Sarap! WOW what great food and service. The lumpia were amazing. Then the noodle bowl with chicken was also great. Our friend got a special with the pork belly. By far the best dish out of the 8 people at the table tried. We were a group of 12 people. All arriving here at different times. The menu they had up did not actually reflect their real menu -- I don't know why? It was confusing. Eventually a gentlemen finally brought a stack of paper menus to the register. I had to keep telling people that the menu was the paper at the register not the menu sign they had up. I think it's best if they work on clearing up this confusion for others. I have eaten here twice, the only thing worth ordering here is the lechon kawali. The pancit that comes with the appetizer dish is not great. It's just bland noodles. But the pork itself is okay. I can't recommend anything else. We'll keep trying any specials they have to see if they're any good. They are lucky that Filipino food options are so limited here. read more

Every one was extremely nice and attentive. Food game out fast and fresh. I will say it didn't taste like the way I cook it. But if I wanted it exactly the was I do it I would have ate at home. So surprised by this semi fast food place inside the Village Market at Paristown. Chicken adobo was a full meal with chicken, rice, sliced veggies and garlic aoli on top. This was the most expensive meal at $16 but worth it. We also had the pork steamed bun with excellent chili sauce! So glad this place is tucked in by pizza and burgers! read more

Yes, it's been awhile. If you've been here before, you'll know that once upon a time I wrote frequently and verbosely about my likes, dislikes and sometimes average feelings about places around and about Louisville and a few other locations. My reviews were sometimes informative, maybe funny, mostly honest, oft times written for me alone (or maybe another) and rarely but sometimes pithy. Anyway, you get the idea. Here goes. Sarap. It means 'delicious' in Tagalog. It's how I feel about the vast majority of food my Filipino mom has fed & shared with me. I absolutely love it. I wish I could say the same for Sarap. I'd been to the predecessor's Bamba Eggroll Co. a time or two, and it was serviceable, not perfect but good enough to give Sarap a try. Firstly, Village Market Hall at Paristown is a beautiful concept and a venue where I believe these food court concepts work nicely, especially for niche restaurants. Where Sarap falls flat is execution and flavors, and that is a terrible sin when considering Filipino-style (Fili-style) foods, as everything I've ever eaten before was flavorful and unique. Adobo chicken should be salty, tangy, spicy, sweet and savory. There can be variations on this but it is never one note. It should sing. The dish I had at Sarap was unfortunately flat. As was their pancit, which was watery & getting starchy. Easy to err if the noodles aren't cooked properly, as it's a balance of prepping and cooking, but it shouldn't be difficult for most Filipino cooks. Finally, lumpia, aka Fili-style egg rolls, my hope as Sarap's one saving grace. Alas, while they still had crunch, the beef filling was bland. I prefer pork lumpia but balanced with the proper veggies and spices, beef lumpia should do in a pinch. It didn't. I may be a little overly critical, but there's but a few things I really love, eating good food being one of them, and this wasn't it. I want it to be. I think it can be. If I find myself out this way again, I may give it another try & post an update. read more

I was so sad because I wanted to love this place! First the good stuff .... it is in a place that is clean, cute, and with other restaurants. It looks very clean with indoor and outdoor seating. The lady at the register was very nice! The lumpia was good! I added it on to my pancit and I added on the bbq pork skewers. Unfortunately the bbq skewers were not good at all and were super dry. I couldn't even eat it. The lumpia was nice, crispy and good. The pancit reminded me more of a chow mein but it wasn't bad, it was decent. If I was here on a weekend I might give their silogs a shot. Limited menu and by the time we got there the siopao (meat filled buns) were already sold out. But I still got what I wanted! I got the chicken adobo over garlic rice with a side of kare kare. My daughter got the chicken skewers with Pancit. Loved the sauce that came with the lumpia but it would have been just as tasty on its own.
