This is as a surprise and it had really good pizza. We were expecting that standard fair but instead got superior food.

I am giving only 2 stars they have good sandwiches however their pizza is mediocre at best, the pasta dishes we have tried 3 different pastas were all horrible. My wife won't go back and in a pinch we may get a pizza but that is the limit and only one pizza that is ok not a fan. read more

Stopped by on our way to resort. Live music playing out front with friendly staff inside. I ordered 2 different slices and my wife got a pasta dish. Both of us well pressed. Pizza wasn't cooked thoroughly. Crust is floppy and not crisp even when we ask for it that way. Depends on the cook. The cheeseburgers , onion rings and fries were awful. This has happened to us several times in the past year. We do like the place and people there and will try something different next time! They use to be really good 3-4 years ago. Pretty good pizza place especially when there isn't too much food where I'm staying. My salad was just okay. The mozzarella sticks were super good and so was their garlic bread! My boyfriend said the ziti was good and he got also got a slice of pizza (it's HUGE!) which was cold but that's not the restaurants fault, it's because we got it to go. They had outdoor seating which is nice because of COVID and also they brought the food right to our car. They were very very kind and the little shop looked adorable from the outside. read more

Got the meatlover's pizza this time. Boring. It just didn't have much flavor at all. The crust was decent though. Worst part is the sausage tasted freezer burnt. Won't be getting pizza here again but the other stuff's Update 28 Feb 2018 I figured I'd try this place again. This time I got the clam pizza. I figured since this is a semi-coastal town with a strong fishing community that I'd get a good seafood pizza. I was wrong. The clams tasted like the canned chopped clams from the grocery store (what little were on the pizza) and the white sauce was too salty. There was absolutely zero seafood taste in this meal. Also, the crust wasn't quite cooked enough to give that crunch of a thin crust pizza so it was basically just less dough. It's just too bad there isn't any competition in this area to make restaurants need to step up their game. read more

On our 1st day visiting our daughter we did take out from Sara's the food was good even for take out. Every place open had to do take, but this place had the best to go. Great food. Fine service. Nice location. The specials were hidden on the wall to the left of the counter so I saw them on my way out. But the wonderful smells of bread and melting cheese filled the air so we all knew what we wanted from the time we walked inside. The tea is certainly sweet. The corn hole on the parking lot is fun. The new bern mall location delivers. .. they were on time, the driver was nice, the stromboli wasn't soggy on the bottom, the sauce for the garlic knots is sweet (for me) but spiced. Pizza (we got the special with everything on it) is good, cooked through no weird soggy spots like a lot of everything pizza.... and the garlic knots are tasty and very garlicky! We have patronized Sara's Big Apple Pizzeria since moving to Fairfield Harbour in December 2018 and truly like the sandwiches, salads, burgers, and various Italian dishes. Recently, after returning from a winter sabbatical, we ordered a large supreme pizza, two cheese pizza slices and a house salad and paid ~$32 plus a tip for curbside pickup. The pizzas were barely edible due to a dough that was thick, tough, and very chewy. The mozzarella cheese was sparse and did not taste fresh. The toppings were adequate but the sausage had a pungent smell. Thinking it may just be me I asked the wife for her opinion and, without any prompting from me, stated the same observations. We contacted Sara's Big Apple Pizzeria twice as the owner was not originally available and she stated that they have not changed anything related to their pizza ingredients and preparation. One would assume from the name of this restaurant and the bright neon sign over the front entrance; "Big Apple Pizzeria," that they serve NY style pizza but that is not the case...more like Chicago or Dominos style. We will pass on Sara's pizza in the future and continue our search for authentic NY style pizza in the New Bern area. read more

Having been in the food service business I know that not all goes well all the time. However, I was VERY disappointed. After the initial glass of water, waitstaff did not return to provide refills. After we ordered six garlic knots, it was 45 minutes before they were delivered to the table. At 65 minutes we had to ask for our food to be put in to-go boxes because we couldn't wait any longer. read more

Love that we have this little gem so close by. The food is amazing and the staff is super friendly. They are like family after you stop in a few times....they know your drink order and all of your favorites. Best baked spaghetti in town. Big T pasta is also a fave. Give it a try! I am so disappointed with my experience. I called in an order at 6:15 pm tonight. The associate that answered my call appeared that he couldn't hear or understand the information I was providing him for my delivery. I repeated name, address, and phone at least 3 times (EACH). I even had to spell out the address twice!!! Okay, no big deal. I gave my card number for payment, we confirmed the order, and he proceeds to tell me I will receive my food in 45 mins. When the food didn't arrive by 7:40, I call the restaurant. A young lady answers and tells me they've been calling me to inform me that my $8 order didn't meet the $10 minimum delivery order (with an attitude). She informed me that they've been calling me but I didn't answer. I ask her to repeat the number they'd call, and she reads off the WRONG phone number, and tells me that either way they're not delivering so it doesn't really matter, and I can order more food to meet the minimum purchase amount or come pick up. That's fine, but don't be rude to me, when the mistake is on your part. I'm very disappointed and Hangry! read more

We were here in June- the service was excellent, pizza and pastas were delicious. Our Uncle wanted to take his family to his "favorite" pizza place and I could see why! Heading back to Fl it was what we talked about. Fast forward to Thanksgiving weekend and it was just as good if not better. The garlic knots are amazing and we ordered the white pizza with spinach, bacon, and added olives. The crust was perfect and we managed to eat it all. Thank you for your kindness, and delicious food. This is the best pizza place in New Bern. Great pizza, cheesesteaks, and other Italian dishes. The owner, Sarah, greets everyone who comes in, and James is just as friendly and a great chef. Vacationing and on our way back from the beach to the condo, the vote was for pizza, which meant I didn't have to cook :) We decided to give the Big Apple a try. We called ahead for an XL pepperoni and a side of Hot Wings. When you read 18" pizza you think "OK so it will be slightly smaller than the pizza box". Not this one! It didn't fit in the box, the edges were actually curled up. So you get your $ worth, which was a bonus, cause it was YUMMY! The hot wings were really good too, 10 wings done perfect and the sauce was just right, hot and still had good flavor, not like some places that want to just numb your senses. Fantastic pizza, subs, and calzones. Good pricing, and they give you large portions. The service was courteous, and they even offered to cut up a slice of pizza for our toddler, and even made sure their piece didn't sit under the warmer too long and get too hot. Would definitely come back again. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because they were understaffed and service was a little slow; basically, they needed a few more staff. But they were very apologetic about the wait. read more
