This is a pure vegetarian restaurant. In my honest opinion, it is a very expensive restaurant for the serving size. Also, it has very poor customer service. They do not greet you and will not come to your table to ask you how you like the food or if anything you need. If you need something then you will have to wave hand to draw attention. Vegetarian only restaurant that serves South Indian cuisine. They have chains in numerous countries and I have been to the one in NYC and a couple in the Middle-East region. The standard/quality of food remains consistent. I really like the Chana Bhatura (sometimes overly salty) and dosas; although I wish they would reduce the amount of oil. The spice level is a notch high for my liking but nevertheless the food is great, service is speedy and this place always remains busy. Must try: Chana Batura, Dosa, special Thali! read more

Last time I had genuine Indian food was about 6 years. To say the least, this place definitely does not disappoint! I had gotten some sort of a sampler dish. Mind you, this place is for Vegetarians, so I don't believe you could find meat for us meat eaters, haha. However, it's always good to expand your horizons on food. There some parts of the sampler I liked, and some I did not like. My rating of a 4 is based on the taste of the food that I liked, and the amount that the restaurant gave you. My gosh, the platter I got was huge, I give props to whoever could finish it in one sitting! The manager and the rest of the staff were looking like they are highly under paid and over worked. They were all in such bad mood all the time. Food quality has deteriorated compared to pre pandemic level.Sambhar was cold and Chutney quantity was enough to last two bites of masala dosa. Horrible service. They keep spoons and forks in glasses on each table. Check before you drink water from that never-washed-jar I poured it and it was full of residue/salt floating in the water. Amazing food let down by bad service. The authenticity of the food is good enough to overcome the problems with the service. Adequate portions. Personal favorites include Gobi 65 for an appetizer and Parotta for an entree. Sambhar vadai and rasa vadas closely resemble that of the south. read more

The coffee and the rava dosa is the only thing thats good. The masala dos a is way too dry with very less masala and the vadas are not crispy at all. On asking the manager, he sakd they make a big batch of them once in the morning. read more

I love South Indian food. And boy, the food here is good! So far I have tried Onion Uttampam, Masala dosa, Butter Dosa, Idli, mini idli, pongal, Idli vada and of course... the filter coffee ...or kaaphii as they say! The North Indian (read: paratha, paneer items, etc) dishes are not up to the mark, but hey, this place specializes in a cuisine that belongs to the Southern region of India.. don't judge! The decor is minimalist - very basic. Chairs and tables and counters. Waiter staff stations too. Nothing fancy about it. You order, and then wait and then eat. I have visited 4 times until now - since last year. And I personally, never had to face any attitude problem with the staff. May be, I have been lucky ..OR too hungry or occupied with hogging to notice it! Generally, it is TH who notices such stuff. But, fortunately, he has not come across it either. The food arrives pretty quickly - with such a speed, that I want to doubt if it is fresh or just reheated!! But, 1st bite goes in and I know - the cooks are just skilled with the speedy delivery of the food! Be ready for the noise levels - they are usually high! And if it is a full house, the levels are definitely high! I tried Idli plate this time. And it came steaming hot with a selection of chutneys - tomato, coconut, cilantro, peanut and the ever faithful accompaniment - Sambar! All of the items were mild - you can eat them by themselves. I play safe sometimes- to not to order items on the menu, that I do not feel confident about. But overall, I am pleased with the portions, taste and quality of the food served here. I'm a regular at Irving Saravana Bhavan ever since it opened. Both the food and friendliness of service are great. The manager Avinash is especially awesome. My father is nearly 90 years old and loves the combo tiffin plate but cannot eat the sweet that comes with it. Avinash accommodates his special request by substituting the sweet with an idli at no extra charge. Another vegetarian South Indian restaurant in Frisco stopped doing this once they became well-established. Was third time giving this place a try and still disappointed with mediocre food and below par service. Visited on a Sunday morning when the whole place was barley half full so no excuse to say it's due to being busy. The food was at best mediocre compared to other SaravanaBhavan areas I've visited (NY being best). Ordered 3 masala dosa (one being butter masala dosa) and they simply brought 3 masala Dosa without even clarifying which one is which, same with 3 coffee ordered of which only 1 needed sugar in it. Had to chase the server to get the ordered tea after meal but instead they come with final bill with the tea already billed. The owner had to come and get the tea instead of the server who was nowhere to be found. Would NOT recommend this place if you are looking for quality food with family let alone for one self. read more

Since the time this new Saravana Bhavan opened at Irving, we have been visiting this place for lunch/dinner at least once every week. The weekdays are fine, but during weekends it does get crazy with long queues and waiting time. Luckily on such crazy weekends we do find a place to sit as we are just 2 ppl - me and my husband. My husband always orders any of the 3 Combo platters. Generally a Combo platter comes with a small Masala Dosa, Idli, either Vada or Pongal and a sweet dish. I stick to either Masala Dosa or Idli or an Uttapam. We generally finish our meals with Madras Coffee. The food is good - crisp dosa, very soft idlis, tasty chutneys and adequate portions (we are not big eaters and prefer small portions). Service is quick. Prices are at par with any other Indian eating joints nearby. Just a couple of points to note, - Try to avoid the weekend rush hour or just be there early as soon as the place opens. - Paying cash gets you 10% (I think) off the check. Overall a good place for great South Indian Vegetarian food in Irving. read more

I've been to this place so many times because my family generally loves the food. I don't expect the best customer service at an Indian restaurant generally. However, I was visiting with some family members and experienced horrible customer service. I left my credit card up front with a manager so I could pay the bill without our guests intervening. The manager asked if I could pay cash to get the 5% discount. I respectfully refused and stated I'd like to pay with card. He agreed to keep my card up front even before we had ordered. After our meal, I went up front to pay the bill and collect my check. The manager was no where to be found and the hostesses could not locate my card at all! Now you can expect my panic at this time.... did the manager leave my card? Did he lose it? Or charge someone else on that card and forget it? Well the manager could not even be located in the Restaraunt and the waitresses attempted to search for him. The waitresses kept saying they didn't think I left it up front but I told them I did with the manager on duty earlier. Finally, they called him and he tells them I hadn't... at this point, I was so frustrated. I told them to look again under the keyboard and they finally found it. Seriously, if the manager can be this careless, then why take the responsibility! He could have said no initially or informed the staff before he left. Nothing. We were so embarrassed in front of our guests for the situation. Will never return again. BTW l: When we asked for sweet paan, they told us they were out.
