The Sarkis Special Omlette

This is probably my new favorite breakfast spot, in Chi metro. It flirts with being overpriced, but the volume is there. Bring cash, and a hefty appetite.

This is a staple in the area. You'll get a ton of food provided you bring your cash! Personally I enjoyed the omelet more than the sandwiches. Several folks at the table were not fans of the Armenian sausage, order at your own risk. Coffee was fine. Hot sauce options were meh.

Have been coming here for 10+ years! (Since I was in elementary school). A classic located in Evanston. I will always drive to eat here. I've tried multiple things off their menu and haven't been disappointed yet. Not sure if they're renovating because they have outdoor seating setup only. Don't be fooled by the exterior though - the old look gives this place its character! If it's your first time, you gotta go with the classic Loretta. Very filling and just makes you feel at home. Ingredients always taste fresh.

I've been going to Sarkis for a year now. I always got the same thing a bacon, Loretta with egg which is an amazing breakfast sandwich! This past week I tried something new for the first time. I tried an omelette with white cheese, mushrooms, broccoli bacon, tomato, and onion was so good. Highly recommend the m and m pancakes as well. I will be getting that again. Prepare to be full! The service is amazing and they truly act like you are family when you walk in and order. The ambience is interesting because it is a small diner/shack. It's not the fanciest looking place, but it is a great place to eat.

I came here for lunch with a few coworkers around 1130. They have their own parking lot(free). You have to order your food before you seat down. It has indoor (I think only a few seats) and outdoor seating under a tent. They have physical menus or you can scan QR code. It's cash only. They do have an atm you can use. I ended up ordering an Animal Loretta sandwich. It's filled with bacon, ham, sausage, cheese, green peppers ,onions and tomatoes. It had great taste everything was cooked perfectly. It also comes with an order of hash browns. They had good service. If it was hotter it woulda of been hard to eat outside. All in all great place!

College vibe with good energy and no frills. All the food was delicious with some of the best blueberry pancakes we have had in awhile. Cash only, but worth the inconvenience. Service was also very good.

Amazing food but zero pride in their appearance or comfort

Food here is ok but zero effort made on upkeep comfort or decor. Very small inside and the patio consists of whatever random tables and chairs that they could find. It's definitely a staple in the north shore but I feel the food quality has decreased over the years. Used to come quite often but this place hasn't been able to keep up with the other breakfast spots in the area. Has not evolved at all and actually has gone backwards. Probably won't be coming back anymore.

Sarkis is one of a kind! I used to skip high school MANY years ago and drive 30+ minutes with a bunch of friends to get the same (and arguably the best) order every time: "A Bacon Loretta, with extra mayo, a side of Cheesy Hash and an Orange Fanta." I went this past weekend and it STILL rocks - So delicious! It was nice to see that they grew their outside dining option by adding a large heated tent. FYI they are still cash only, but they have an ATM in the back if you forget (like I did).

We LOVE Sarkis!

Great neighborhood place that my family has come back to when we want consistently good brunch. The vibe is great with the crew's happy, positive energy is so contagious that guests get happy bellies AND spirits! The food is perfectly cooked and brought to your table promptly by the crew that makes you feel like family. The price is affordable with the average entree below $15. The coffee is good, too, with a hint of cinnamon. No frills but great place to go for a meal with family and friends!

I like their casual, road side style. Really relaxing for breakfast. Food and coffee are alright.

Valley Lodge Tavern has a classy but casual atmosphere good for groups and parties. A lot of the expected menu items. There's burgers and meaty things but also some lighter options. Big inside with a bar in the middle and tables all around. It's got plenty of room for large groups. There's also a pretty big patio. Gets crowded. Thankfully we were able to get seats at the bar and it was pretty fast to be honest. It's about $15 for a cocktail. Too expensive but good though. I got the Valley Lodge Signature, which is their main one of course. This is made with Chambord and Ketel One Citroen, along with cranberry, lime, and sour mix. It's about $17 for a burger. These are also too expensive but at least these come with a side. Each of us got the Classic Burger with a Beyond Burger patty. These have the basic toppings like lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. It's located right down the street from Northwestern University's football stadium (whatever the heck they're naming it). This is a nice hidden gem in Evanston. Not located downtown, it may have a chance to stick around a while. As Jane V. noted in her review, you are greeted by a delicious smoky smell when you enter the restaurant. It was an inviting smell (at least for me), others in our group thought we were walking into a barbecue joint and were less than thrilled, but the menu put them at ease as it has a lot of options. There were five of us and one couple decided to share a couple appetizers as their entrees. They ordered the Cauliflower Buffalo Bites, and the Macho Nacho. They were huge portions easily enough for us all to share. However, my wife and I don't see eye-to-eye with our eating habits (she is mostly vegetarian and I'm a card-carrying carnivore), so she was not about to share the smoky wings and cheesy tots with me. I opted for the Chicken Vesuvio entree, and she and our other friend both ordered the Inside-Out Grilled Cheese. I would say most the sandwiches looked good (no portobello for me, thanks). I would say though, the desserts are pretty generic, so we opted out, but their is a door inside the restaurant to the donut shop next door (which was closed), but I wanted to try that place, so I'll have to make another trek out there for them and review them later. I'm amazed that the donut shop, DB3 Donuts, does not appear on their menu at all, despite having a connecting door from one establishment to the other, but alas, I've heard their apple crisp and brownie are good, but neither were too appealing that night. All meals were delicious and I definitely need to go back and try other dishes. And may DB3, if they are open. Give this place some love as it is a nice gem in Evanston.

So much so that I ordered the smoked Sampler plate, and was I glad I did. I started off with their Top O' The Morning special Saint Patrick's cocktail (Titos, Curacao, and orange juice shaken and poured over ice). I really loved this drink. My hubby had a Margarita that was just delightful. Our appetizers were: Angry Shrimp (really delicious) shrimp with a spicy tomato garlic sauce. Served over polenta cake. Ahi Tuna Wanton (mango jicama salsa, avocado, and teriyaki sauce) This should be their signature appetizer). The presentation is impeccable. It appealed to our eyes before the 1st bite. And,the first bite, as well as the rest, was wonderful. We would gladly return here just for this. Our entrees were: Grilled Salmon with corn risotto, grilled asparagus, smoked tomato aioli. The salmon was well cooked to medium, not too dry, and not too rare. The plate was well balanced and everything was very tasty. Smoked Sampler My favorite! Rib tips, brisket, pulled pork, Texas toast, cole slaw. For dessert: Chocolate Brownie Apple Crisp Both were so good that we did not want to share! The next time you are in the Evanston area, you really must stop in for their delicious food!

The first thing that hits you when you walk in is the smell, and it is coming from the outdated carpet. It is not subtle. It lingers throughout the entire space and makes it hard to fully enjoy the experience or even have much of an appetite. Older carpet is a real issue in restaurants. Over time, it traps dust, food particles, grease from the air, moisture, and bacteria. If it is not regularly deep cleaned or replaced, that buildup starts to break down and creates a heavy, musty odor. It does not stay contained in the carpet either, it rises into the air and essentially fills the entire space.
