I didn't even reach the front door before I had a smile. When you walk inside it just screams 1950s memorabilia and coca-cola. It is a fun place to take family. Even the sparkle booths. Unfortunately, the food is also 1950s style. The omelette is definitely diner style folded omelette, and the ham is straight off the bone and the cheese. The hash browns tasted of... potato. No seasoning, hash browns were just slide potatoes. I really hoped for a good seasoned hash brown. The service was top notch. Drink always filled. Food came as soon as it was ready. The price is excellent though. Definitely worth trying out. Fun little trip to the past. read more

This place is not very aesthetically pleasing just driving by. But I always wanted to go, because I live in Niles and it's called Niles Grill. So I finally made it out to breakfast with a few friends(Luke Duke and O-Rod) on their recommendation, and it did not disappoint. This place gives great vibes when you walk in. Literally, everyone you encounter says good morning to you. Everyone is so nice. Now, onto the food. I ordered steak and eggs. I like to keep it simple. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the eggs, which I ordered over-easy, were also great. They were cooked so well that they almost looked fake. Oh, and for an added bonus, the toast comes buttered. Also, my coffee never got cold because they were constantly topping it off. My one friend I came with, I don't recall what he ordered because he was done with his meal before I was halfway done with my meal. I'm assuming that means he thoroughly enjoyed it. I will say that the food was good. The serving of fries is generous. The server was friendly but took a bit longer as she was working alone. I did like the decor and setup. The reason I'm giving them two stars is for the food. I took three stars off for the smoking, most likely in the restrooms. I can't stand to eat my food with smoke in the space, including in my two-year-old's face. When we brought it up at check-out, we were told they'd had that problem. HOWEVER, from what we witnessed, it was an employee or someone who went from the restroom to the kitchen/back area. read more

Dropped in last weekend for brunch since I had a doctor's appointment around the corner with my two kids. The pancakes here were strong and the place worked out well as a kid-friendly option where my 4- and 2-year-old could make some noise, color some pictures, and move quickly from dining to leaving (with kids, I like to get in and out in 30-40 minutes, very doable here). For the price, you can do a lot of damage here for $8-$10/person if you order the right combinations, so kudos as well for the fair pricing. Not perfect, since the space isn't exactly sexy, but this is another great example of why I love Chicago...plenty of great diners! read more

I came in for breakfast and ordered the Niles Grill Skillet. It's a skillet packed with hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, onions, tomatoes, cheese and eggs. I really liked everything about it, but wasn't too keen on the sausage (I know that sausage is a hit or miss in diners - definitely a miss for me.) It was definitely a little greasy, but it was still an enjoyable breakfast for something local. Will it be a frequent stop for me? Probably not, but I would go back.. Maybe I'll order an omelette next time. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive despite the fact that she was waiting on several tables at once. Me and my wife lived in Niles and use to frequent this location as a young couple 28yrs ago (but it was IHOP then). It was our breakfast spot. Today we were in Niles and looking for a spot to eat and saw Niles grill and diner. The structure on the outside has not changed so we decided to give it a try and a little flashback for us also. The food and service was great. It looked like it maybe family owned. It felt really homey inside. I had the steak skillet and my wife had French toast and corned beef hash. Had a group of 10 called in at 12:45 to confirm they can seat us arrived at 1:03 and then the server told us it would take 20 minutes to seat us which was fine then after waiting they decided we can't be served because the close at 2pm which is fine if they hadn't lead us on for an hour do not recommend coming here with a large party it seems like a nice place for parties of 2-4 with a lot of time to kill read more

I've been here twice now for breakfast and I'm very happy with this place. Now this place would be considered a "dive". You will not go here for the atmosphere. I had an omelet and ham off the bone and eggs. Both were very good. The portions were big enough and the prices are very reasonable. I liked the potatoes with the crispy edges. Years ago I went to their old place further South on Milwaukee ave., and I'm pleased to say their breakfast is still very good. Can't comment on their lunch, never had it. I've passed here dozens of time and never bothered to stop until today. I can't say I'm a big fan. This is one of those places you walk in and you simply sit yourself. The service itself was decent but I thought the place was a bit on the dirty side (and in definite need of a diner makeover). There was absolutely nothing special about my bacon and cheese omelette or the bagel we ordered. We personally thought the coffee was rather bland too. In fact, we had to stop at a local coffee shop afterwards to get some real coffee. This is probably the first and last time I'll visit this establishment. I have driven by this little gem hundreds of times and finally stopped in this morning. It's not fancy, it's a diner. The food was outstanding! My son is very picky and usually orders pancakes, but never "loves them". I was floored when he raved about the pancakes and almost finished all 3! I had a really good egg white omelet, bacon was cocked perfectly and NOT greasy and I thought the prices are reasonable. Seriously wondering how I skipped this for so long. I will be back! read more

Moved up the street to 9206 Milwaukee Ave. This place belongs in a 1950's movie. Breakfast menu has regular fare with good portions. EXCEPT the huge, handmade chopped steak and Giant pork chop. No crap this suckers 2" thick and both come grilled or cooked over the coals!! The ham is cut off the bone and you will not find any "Turkey, chicken" crap sausage here! Lunch has small selection regular sandwiches.. and a few specials each day. I had the grilled ham and cheese which had hand cut Ham off the bone. You have to look at the "Burger Section". They are hand made beauties. Bunch of different taste combos as well as good old standard Cheeseburgers. The monster burger is a HUGE two patty, mess of a sandwich. Its all worth the heart attack!! I have been going to Niles Grill on and off for about a year now. It's actually an old IHOP restaurant that was owned by my friend's Dad MANY years ago and now turned into a quaint 1950's type diner. Niles Grill use to be further south on Milwaukee Avenue, and then moved and found a home here. The burgers are the best: very thick and juicy. And many to choose from with real cute names for each type. My favorite is the Turkey Burger, which is extremely juicy. There is much on the menu that is delightful and pretty simple fare. If it's looks like a diner and eats like a diner, well.... One caveat, though. Even though it is wheel chair accessible, there is a short, steep ramp in front of the door that can be hazardous to wheelchairs AND persons with a cane. It's very easy to lose your footing during the winter and wet weather. read more
