First off the guys cooking need to actually focus on the proper portion of protein to put in orders. They are very nonchalant about cooking the food and plating it correctly. I ordered a chicken teriyaki and paid for extra chicken. They gave me the normal amount of chicken and a bunch of white rice. The veggies were barely cooked. They were raw and flavorless. The cooks they have don't care to prepare the food the right way. I looked at my food and felt ripped off. Barely any chicken but a ton of white rice. Paying for extra chicken and not getting extra chicken. They only get 2 stars for flavor. I wont come back ever. Not worth $14. I definitely regretted passing on Thai kitchen or China Wok for this place. I threw away most of the white rice. It was way too much for so little chicken. So where to begin. I was in the mall and stopped to get a bite to eat. this place is always busy and they make good food. I ordered my food, and waited; I dipped into the rest room and when I came back my order was ready. As soon as I picked up my food the guy from behind the counter grabs my bag and tells me don't steal food. I understand if there are issue with food being stolen, I get that, but you didn't even ask me if I had a receipt you just assumed I was stealing. after I told him that I paid for it, he still would not give me my food, so I walked over to get a refund from the cashier, and as soon as I wanted my money back there was no problem and zero apology from him. Sarku is my go to lunch spot when perusing wares at good ol' Solomon Pond. It's your run of the mill teriyaki stand. They have a frequent customer stamp card which is buy five get a free chicken teriyaki. I have found that if it purchased beef, they will give you a smaller portion than they would if you'd purchased chicken. They also used to have onion in the veggies but now consists of 80% cabbage, a two or three slivers of carrot and a piece of broccoli. I find myself having to add pepper or salt to the dish as it's not very flavorful. I would recommend the chicken teriyaki if you want the most bang for your buck. read more

One of the best chicken teriyaki I've had. Very tasty! And for a food court place, I might even say its better than at some restaurants I've tried! For about $5 dollars, they give you a boatload amount of food- chicken, rice and veggies. The food is made to order so they cook it right in front of you, which is great. And if you want a taste before you buy, they usually have someone giving out samples in front. The chicken is marinated just perfectly, and definitely ask to have some sauce drizzled over the chicken! that just completes the whole meal in my opinion. I ordered the special of the day, chicken teriyaki with stir fry veggies and white rice ... at a mere, recession proof $4.29 - Yummy food for a delicious price! As I ordered my meal, hoping for a winner, the line behind me quickly gathered. Trend setter? Perhaps, but I was obviously the only first timer as this Mall favorite has an obviously loyal and enthusiastic fan base. The special of the day, chicken teriyaki, is a fan favorite as well. Only one other ordered something different as the to-go orders quickly filled the order tray with all white rice chicken teriyaki orders and only one order with fried rice. This Chicken Teriyaki dish flavor has a great combination of sweet and salty and you feel less guilty, as your tastebuds pleasure themselves, when you order the white rice, served in very healthy portions. Aussies would make two meals out of these portions, for sure! They cook in front of you so you know what the kitchen conditions are and don't need to worry. My chef was pleasant and accomodating and if you need chopsticks, don't forget to ask! I am not certain what the calorie count is but food this tasty cannot be too low on the calorie scale. I have been eating at the Sarku Japan chain for many, many years now. They deserve props for being consistent through all the years and from one location to another. The chicken teriyaki is their staple menu item and surely what keeps this chain in business. I find that their portions are too large and are mostly made up of steamed white rice. As is the case with many mall food-court establishments, they are aggressive when it comes to offering samples. You better take one unless you want to get the hairy eye-ball. Visited for dinner tonight after not having been for a while. We got the Chicken Teriyaki which was our favorite. Unfortunately, they seem to be serving much more rice than they did in the past. They fill most of the container with rice then add small portions of vegetables and chicken on top. The chicken was delicious, the veggies were good, too. However, there was too much rice. Also, they used to offer a scoop of sauce for flavoring; don't seem to do that anymore. It was disappointing. I used to work at a Portrait Studio in the Solomon Pond Mall. Sarku Japan was the only thing that got me through my shifts. Thank God I only worked there a few months, otherwise I'd be 500 pounds from eating there everyday. I always got the fried rice with extra teriyaki chicken. (Deep fried rolled out shrimp on rice) Certainly not top notch or anything but for the price, it was great. However it was quite greasy, which does not bother me, but some people may be bothered by this. Dont know about any other menu items. I got the teriyaki chicken with fried rice and asked for extra sauce. It tasted good, hit the spot at first. I ate whole thing, didn't realise how hungry I was. There was a lot of gristle in chicken and chicken was poorly cut. There was one gob put on my Styrofoam that must have been ten pieces in one which was too hard to cut with a plastic fork. Shortly after eating there I got a sore throat and now have a stomach ache, and so does my daughter. Won't be back there again. read more
