Last Sat. 3 friends and I stopped in at Sauce; it was our 2nd stop as part of what became a Danforth Bar/Pub Crawl. We arrived around 4:15 pm at which time it was fairly barren inside and a 2-piece band (singer/guitarist and pianist) were performing. As there were only 2 musicians and the lady was playing an acoustic guitar, the music wasn't too loud so my friends and I could converse comfortably. My friends and I ordered drinks only and I chose to have 1/2 pint of Spearhead's Hawaiian Style Pale Ale which is one of my favourite beers. It was only $5 (+ tax & tip) which was a good deal. It was quite enjoyable to pop into the venue for a drink and some live entertainment. read more

Unfortunately, we missed the live music for the day but we did enjoy a lovely drink. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The decor is dark and vintage. With lots of great seating. There's a backed covered patio area with a second bar which is so cute. Our drinks were very tasty, and we felt welcomed and taken care of. Really disappointed with the service I got a glass of wine and a "picnic option" which wasn't well explained, the sever said it was a mix of salami and cheese with some crackers. The service is slow and it took 15 min just to get the bill, besides the time to be seated even though the place was pretty empty. I do not recommend and for sure I won't be back. read more

Love lounge type of decor with dark lighting at this place. Right away I felt comfortable to hang out. Back patio with heating in the colder season, craft beer menu and not too loud music are plus. read more

We entered and immediately were drawn to the gorgeous decor. The service is quick and knowledgeable. We are not very experimental but enjoyed browsing the drinks. We ended up ordering plain regular pints and the spinach and artichoke dip. Love this beautiful and comfortable establishment. Will return with friends! read more

I would avoid this place, the worst part is the service and the attitude of the people that work there. I would not return.

I've been a west-ender for as long as I've been in Toronto. I pretty much find all I want and need west of University Ave. Having said that every once in awhile I venture out to the east end for something unique. One particular Friday night I decided to head out onto the Danforth to catch an indie band show. Didn't turn out as enjoyable as I'd hoped and so stepped out mid evening to find another bar to get my drink on. It was then I came across Sauce. This places has oodles, oodles I say, of charm. The bar is essentially themed in a kind of New Orleans style vampire Lestat red. The closets I can compare, from the west end of Toronto, is Southern Accent of 10-15 years ago. It's warm and enveloping atmosphere without being overly pretentious. The bar servers were friendly and welcoming. The music played was tasteful and added to the ambience. To my delight I discovered they have a very good collection of not only craft beer but imports as well with decent prices. There are very few bars as warm and charming as Sauce in any part of Toronto. If I lived in the area it would easily be a regular haunt. Worth the visit if you are anywhere near the area. read more

Sauce-d. It was an old-fashioned speak easy vibe they were going for an it was an old-fashioned speak easy they achieved. Though I'm not one to really care about decour, I have to admit that it felt pretty cool to be in place decades away. The deep red walls, velvety lamp shades, wooden stools and old-time-y pictures really gave the place some character. The staff were all extremely friendly, happy to serve and worked their asses off during to serve a pretty jammed joint on both our visits last night. Mel, our bartender, didn't quite squeal when we came back after dinner, but it was pretty close and it was genuine. If I recall correctly (the delicious whiskey sour hangover is blurring things), there were about 10 drafts, none of which included the usual domestic shit (Coors, Canadian, Bud, etc), but did include Flying Monkeys, Welly, Black Oak and King to name a few. The selection of bottles and tins was all over the map including Gleuten-free beer (a first) and what appeared to be a couple types of sake. The music was pretty varied as well, which was great, and played a volume level where you didn't actually have to shout at each other, yet still maintained the party vibe. I can only hope this place keeps doing what they're doing as I've been without a neighbourhood watering hole for way too long. Will drink again. read more

Here's what I like about this place: - Great atmosphere. Someone got inspired by the cut glass in the storefront window and did a great job of running with that as a theme throughout. Everyone looks great in this lighting and it's easy on the eye. - Artovision. No television, but a tv that is just displaying interesting old ads and art work. Nice. - Interesting beers. I don't even know what I had, but it was good. I think they have rotating craft beers on tap. - Nice size for a neighbourhood pub. - Critical mass. This was the second stop on the Toronto Beer Week Pub Crawl. Definitely great atmosphere with cool artwork/photography on the walls. It has an old-fashioned, dark, swanky bar kinda vibe to it. The bar was extremely busy and the space by the bar is difficult to get around so it wasn't easy to get the bartender's attention but eventually got a beer ! Awesome drink selection! They had a decent sized front patio but the place was pretty full when we got there so we just stayed around the bar mostly. There is a decent amount of seating in the back of the bar as well. The staff were very friendly and were definitely hopping around that day trying to get to everyone! Would definitely hangout here again :) read more

This bar had a very unique interior; it had a lot of paintings that looked like it came from the 18th century. They had a lot of interesting drink selection especially ones that they mix themselves. A lot of my friends that night chose the Dark and Stormy, which they really liked. Unfortunately for me, I had to get their unusual expensive fountained coke as I had to drive that night. Price is more on the expensive end but you do get a fair amount of the drink. Service was decent, they came back a few times to check up on us to see if we wanted refills and how we were doing. My only complaint is that they didn't record how many drinks we had so they pretty much guessed and it becomes an issue when one or two of my friends can't remember how many they had. I finally had the opportunity to give this place another shot after my first visit nearly two years ago and I'm glad I did. All the issues I had initially had been resolved. Not only do they now have a cocktail menu, they also have an extensive food/snack menu and an array of premium spirits. I was particularly impressed with the bourbon and tequila offerings - each had a full page in the menu. Also a really fantastic beer selection. The cocktail menu features most of the classics (old-fashioned, Manhattan, French 75, Dark & Stormy, Negroni, etc.) and a few originals. The two drinks I tried - the French 75 (which could be made with your choice of gin, vodka or brandy) and the Old-Fashioned - were both stiff and generous pours and well-crafted. Prices as noted in my previous review were good. Service was friendly and attentive. Glassware was awesome. Noted an extensive collection of bitters at the bar. Crowd that particular night (a Saturday) tended to be slightly on the older side and the vibe wasn't 100% my scene, but I'd definitely go back whenever I'm looking for a good drink in the 'hood. read more

We wandered in here for a drink after dinner one night. I loved a lot about this place. I loved the mostly red decor which made it feel old and established. They are a few neat beers on tap and while we were there it was the cider festival so they had a few ciders on tap. My salted pineapple glass was delicious. They don't seem to have much food on the menu - at least not when I went. I see a recent review of Ethiopian however all I saw were dips with crackers (that smelt delicious). Overall, this seems like a great little lounge on the Danforth. I would love to visit it again. read more

Lovely people and a good vibe night or day. The decor is funky-cool, aside from the weird video display showing retro photos, some of which are downright bizarre. I just noticed my very accurate review was not up on Yelp. As you can see from the other reviewers I was right on the money with my review. I wrote this review not to harm a business but more to help a business focus their efforts. Conceptually Sauce was on the right track. Now they just have to execute that concept. Not the experience I had. Their website touts "An Array of 1920's inspired cocktails" so I figured they were on the revival cocktail craze that is sweeping Toronto. I showed up and asked to see their cocktail list. They did not even have one !!! Claimed they could make me whatever I wanted. I said I don't really know what kind of cocktails were around in the 20's and could she list off some of their drinks. Still a blank face. I even spoke to the owner to suggest that they really need to at least get a drink menu together quickly as it could get busy by the weekend. Her response was "I will get to that in September". When I arrived I texted 3 of my friends about coming to meet me for drinks. They are friends that are into all of the "new" cocktails. Minutes later I told them to not bother. This place is just a regular neighbourhood bar. DO NOT go to this place expecting anything else than that. read more

The good.....Nicely decorated. Staff is friendly. Large selection of beer. The not so good....they don't really sell food, very very limited menu that doesn't really go with beer. Location is one you would only visit if you lived out that way, seedy part of the Danforth. If blue collar atmosphere and no food is your thing, then this is your place. read more

Very interesting bar. Our bartender, Danielle, was the right mix of quirky and helpful. She served us water for us red faced drinkers without asking us. Such a sweetheart. The atmosphere is really good and the drink selection is excellent. I just wish they had a better billing system as the receipt just has code names. This place is like a beautiful New Orleans fever dream filled with booze and masks and red velour and art postcards and mismatched booze promotional art. It's fantastic. Lots of character and characters. A single TV that shows nothing but ancient weird photos and new photoshops of ancient weird photos (except the Kentucky Derby. They are really into that for some reason.) Patio area in back is really great- don't overlook it, even though they there's an area up front to drink outside as well. The owners are hilarious. They have Havana Club. It's my favorite bar on the Danforth. And it's open every damn day of the year except New Year's. read more

I always try to visit Sauce when I am in Toronto. It is a real neighborhood establishment. It is a very comfortable and although they may be very busy the service is very good. One of my favourite spots in the hood. Sauce has a wonderful vibe to it. The atmosphere is fantastic, the bartenders are wonderful and accommodating and the patrons are always friendly.
