We stopped here on our way through this area and discovered this hidden gem. We didn't have the time or energy to do much of the available hiking, but they have several trails with varying degrees of difficulty. It was a beautiful area, green and lush, with several areas for picnicking and wading into creeks. There was a lake that people were fishing in. Several old cabins were on the property that added a fun dimension to the area. If we're ever in the area again, we might stop and take advantage of more of the hiking trails. read more

Beautiful nature preserve in some of Kentucky's most beautiful countryside. A short drive from Louisville, it is a real treasure.

So pretty! Now the question you're wondering, why not 5 stars? My only problem was the trash in the water. When I went, there were pieces of trash that were "marinating" in the water. So, I wouldn't go in the water. But overall the scenery was great, so many flowers, and lots of wildlife! read more

Saunders Springs is very close to the main road, you do not have to drive that far in at all to see the water streams or even the campsites. We waiting for my sister to finish a class at ft. Knox so we decided to explore Saunders springs for a few hours. I would definitely recommend it to kill some time since there's nothing to do in this small little town lol. Just watch your surroundings...we saw this couple doing drugs in their car while they dropped their kids outside playing in the water ‍ read more

I wasn't impressed at all with this place. There are plenty of trails here but we mainly stuck to the Perimeter Trail. There are bike-specific trails but most of them are meant for mixed-use. With that being said, most of the trails seem geared towards bikers. So many switchbacks! The Perimeter Trail is 6 miles but at times it feels like you knock out 2 miles in one area because of all the twisty-turns. Some parts of the Perimeter Trail you can stop, take two steps to the left or right, and still be on the trail but 0.01 further into the trail! It's ridiculous! I would say this trail area would be good for people just wanting a little exercise, but you aren't doing yourself any favors on this 6-mile easy trail. It's not strenuous at all. They have clean bathrooms and plenty of parking. If you like to take your bike on trails, I'd say go here. They even have bike obstacles for you to enjoy. Otherwise, don't waste your time. read more

Love it here! Nice hills, great vistas, quite. It's a great place with the dogs. They love to swim in the creek and sniff for squirrels & woodchucks in the grass. The park is nicely kept, the grass is moored and the shelters are clean. It's a great getaway, just outside Ft Knox off Wilson. read more

Christmas Eve day was spectacularly beautiful and I neeeeeded to be outside for a long time. I wanted to get a little bit out of Louisville but not have to be in a car for 2-3 hours each way (as much as I love going to the Gorge...) Saunders Springs has been on my bookmark list and hiking radar for a while now. So I was decided. The nature preserve is not super huge, but the annex portion that connects to it adds a great deal amount of space to explore. The nature preserve boasts four historic log buildings, that are very charming and they were decorated with fairy lights outside for the holiday. There is ample parking, toilets, and a shelter that is home to a soda vending machine, information on other local points of interest, and supposedly maps of the preserve and the annex (there were none available while I was there, but I suppose winter might not be a highly visited time). I wanted some distance logged, and there is a 6.2 mile (10k) trail in the annex. The Perimeter Trail goes around the whole of the annex area, but it also zig zags in and among itself. It is a multi-use trail for hiking, running and mountain biking. Very often I would be walking part of the trail and beginning six feet away on either side of the trail, see the last few turns I had taken as well as the next two or three. It got...a little boring an monotonous. I would say this trail is probably more fun for mountain bikers and even trail runners. But still, it was a lovely day to be out! And this trail is the most clearly marked and most often marked trail I have EVER been on. Every 1/10 of a mile is marked with a 5"x7" sign, and every 1/2 mile is marked with a larger wooden post about 4 feet tall. The annex area also has a mountain bike skills course and a couple special bike-only trails. The official website for the nature preserve has information on how many stairs are on a certain trail as well. There aren't any in the annex trails I used...but PLENTY elsewhere in the park. Be ready for some climbing! This information seemed to also be share on most of the trailheads. But there are also accessible trails and sights! A lot of the trail connect to one another, so don't turn back just because a trail says it is only 1000 feet long...there will probably be a few off shoot trails too! I went hiking with my family a few weeks back at this nature preserve. We had a great time as we got to Hite on a few of their trails see a lot of their landmarks and really be a part of the ambience. We had a really good time and I look forward to going back definitely check it out read more

I used to live near this and didn't know it existed and that kids is why we Yelp. This place has an abundance of signage that directs you not just where to go and where not to go but also informs you about the flora and fauna. It's really nice to be able to not just enjoy a hike but to learn about the nature you're enjoying as well. I really liked that. It was a wealth of useful information. This is a park maintained by the nearby town and a proliferation of Eagle Scout projects. It was really well kept and clean, I like that. The trails were clear. If you're expecting something more than perhaps you would go to a state or national park since small towns aren't known for big hiking parks. After reading some of the reviews of this place I have to wonder if some of you have personality disorders. read more

I lived in Radcliff growing up and had never even visited or knew about this place until I was in my 30's when you could drive through. Advance a couple of decades later and there are places to park, picnic areas, restrooms, bridges, lots of information about the trees in the area, trails to enhance the streams. Just revisited it while we were down there for Thanksgiving. If you've never been or haven't been in awhile, you have to see it to experience it. There was a wildflower garden that was part of a girl scout's gold award project that is really neat. Steps were put in with railroad ties to make walking up and down easier. You just get out of your car to hear the rushing water and automatically relax. This place was originally the water source for Radcliff and Fort Knox long ago. I'm going to visit this place more often now that I've seen the changes. Just gorgeous! read more

I've driven through Radcliff twice a year for past 7 years. Never even knew about this old civil war camp site. It's currently a nature preserve for the city of Radcliff. They have walking hiking and mountain bike trails. The elevation range up to 600 feet. With plenty of hills and valleys. It was damp for the past 8 days. So they didn't allow biking or hiking on the trails. They have 3 old log cabins from 1800's 81/2015 read more

This is one of the most gorgeous parks I've ever visited in any state. Bringing together history of the area in an easy to consume wealth of natural beauty. A great place to walk/run or exercise how you see fit. You won't believe the natural beauty nestled between Radcliff and Fort Knox. This is a must visit when in the area! This place is beautiful! I love the different hiking trails you can take and some are challenging too. They have a small pond to fish in, benches for picnics, scenic places for pictures. Parking is hit or miss depending which area you want to park at and the roads are small and curvy so drive slow and watch out for pedestrians that walk the road and not the trails. Also watch out for the other cars, some drive fast around the curves. Take bug spray too, with all the streams, waterfalls there is a lot of mosquitoes. read more

During a 2 week training mission I attended at Fort Knox I found this gem of a springs tucked away just waiting to be found. There are a lot of trail options for every fitness level and you can access everything fairly easy. The basis of this springs is a water plant. There is a reservoir that holds the water and a few small falls and a river that run through it. The trail is very clearly marked and there are very detailed signs at each intersection describing the options and the terrain for each way. It's up to you to decide! The stairs that are built into the side of the slope to get you down into the gorge are very steep. There are also some steps that have the steel stakes sticking up OVER the top of the step. CAREFUL! Watch your step and you will be fine. This place is gorgeous! Not to packed either. There are benches and covered tables throughout in case you want to stop for lunch that you may have brought with you. OMG!!!! So it is a very challenging trail to run or bike... for that i will say bring water, hiking boots or water shoes, and a walking stick (that's for scaring off the snakes). Went after dinner, the best is to drive to the bottom of the preserve and then walk up to some of the springs/lakes, there is a cave spring that is gorgeous. As we walked alone the road and the stream we saw a small snake and another family saw one on the cliff they were by. People use a drain as a slide from one pool to another which is pretty cool. I love this place and cant wait to walk all the trails. read more

I was in the area doing a boring errand on a Saturday and checked Yelp for local parks. So glad I did and took the time to check it out! The local Eagle Scouts did an amazing job putting in some of the trails and whoever curates the signage here is after my detail-oriented, visual learning heart. There is a lake and a creek running through the canyon from a local spring, many trails, picnic tables, scenic overlooks, fishing, bathrooms, civil war era log cabins, and tons of natural beauty. read more

Beautiful place...great for walking my dog, she loves it there, many different terrains for many different levels of walking.

This place is closed down due to road construction and blocked off with chains. It says that you are not even allowed to walk or hike back there. It looks as though it had been this way for a while. I'm here for two months and will update if there are any changes. read more
