Wow! This place has a great selection of tackle and gear. The staff was very helpful and gave me some great recommendations for a Catalina trip. I'll be taking soon. One star bc i had to. Highly disappointed in SavOn Tackle!! I went in trying to buy a surprise gift for the hubs. Since i am clueless as to what items were called, i asked the staff. They seemed more bothered with my questions than being helpful to assist. Their business needs us the customers to continue to function but unfortunately the staff's lack of interest to help will eventually bring it under. I've been there before with my husband as well as nephews and HAVE NEVER felt the way they made me feel when i went in. I feel most of the current positive reviews are the staff themselves making the shop look good to reel in more foot traffic. Took a couple of my Shimano reels in for a seasonal cleaning and tune-up. I was told they don't have a reel tech on staff anymore and didn't know if or when they would hire someone.. Also, the store was empty of customers and very few staff members. Anything from freshwater to saltwater tackle and setups. - They provide any service you'll need to maintain and repair your equipment. - Prices are comparable to online stores and other brick and mortar stores. CONS: - The parking lot can be full depending on what time you go. The location is in a small plaza with other stores. - Not sure if this is really a "con," but if you're looking for cheaper hardware i.e. rod/reel, this is not the place for you. I'd suggest just going to walmart or a dick's sporting goods. FINAL THOUGHTS: Definitely a great spot to pick up bait or tackle, or if you want a good rod & reel setup. Highly recommended even for those who want to just get into fishing and know nothing about it. They'll help you out. Blah blah heard it all before lol... Sav-on Tackle is located right next to a gas station and pretty much has only one row of parking. But everytime I've parked, I've had no issue. They've got plenty of reels on display; Shimano, Daiwa, Penn, etc. Owner hooks, weights, fishing line, lures, and I can go on and on. You name it they've probably got it. They even offer line rigging and reel repair service if needed too. As far as service, the rude lady that everyone reviews about wasn't so rude to me. I really had no issues talking to her or asking her for help. Maybe I just caught her on a good day, idk. But on my last visit, I was helped by Tee, who totally helped me find all that I needed to prepare me for my 2-day trip. Thanks Tee! Stopped by for a entry level rod and reel combo. Was helped by Daniel who took the time to give us several options and explain what everything was for. He was super patient with us in answering a bunch of questions you can expect from fishing newbies. Ended up leaving with two rod and reel combos with all the basics needed to fish for under 200 bucks. Hopefully the equipment works out. I'll have to update the review after a few fishing trips. I paid a visit today (Thursday 5pm) to Sav On Tackle to buy a rod and reel setup for an upcoming half day trip on a charter boat and something that works great on the pier. Not long after entering the shop I was greeted by Jeremy who was extremely informative and helpful. I told him what I needed which he then asked what my budget was and type of fish I was targeting. Jeremy responded to all my questions with great expertise -- not once did I ever felt like I was missing out on any important details that I needed to know. After I agreed with the setup he picked out for me he helped spooled up some line for me. As I was waiting for him, I was approached by other employees in the store asking if I needed any assistance. The cashier whom I didn't get hold of his name that day was also extremely friendly. Highly recommend this shop for those who are new to fishing or even the more experienced fisherman! I've been shopping at Sav on tackle for over 20 years Roger sold me my first calstar & seeker rods back in the day. This use to be the best tackle shop in the area but those days are long gone. Sorry to say but today is the last time I will be doing any business with sav on tackle went in this afternoon 6/10 around 5pm to get a reel filled but the workers would rather stand behind the counter and BS with each other than help paying customers. I have had bad customer service from this store multiple times in the last few years guess they don't care because I'm not the only person complaining about there customer service or should I say lack of. read more

I was introduced to Sav On Tackle from a number of forums and people talking about how great the shop was. They were not wrong for sure. The prices are reasonable, I would not go so far as to say they are a discounted shop but what makes this store so different are two very important features. Before I go into it I will say that I am not an angler that has much experience, I ask tons of questions, I look at so much stuff just to see how things work and what is available for all kinds of fishing. With that known, one of the things what sets this place apart is the selection they have. Nothing short of a department store, Sav On is like the Target of fishing tackle. The store is not huge per se but they have everything that I could imagine one would need to handle all of what we do here in So Cal. The second best thing about this place is the customer service. Many of the tackle shops seem to always be focused on one thing, selling. Now this seems obvious but the short term sales people would just sell people the most expensive or useless items that are just not needed. Eventually, people find out and inevitably hold a grudge against that store from that point on. I have absolutely been there. The better sales people will be honest and forth coming about the choices available and what fits what the angler is looking for. I find that the customer service here is very good with opinions and suggestions that seem very honest and have done very well with me. I appreciate this store and will be back. Oh and if you can catch a seminar here, I highly suggest you do so, they are all amazing. read more

Me and my friend came here to get out gear checked out for a trip we got in a few weeks. Zack is the one who began to help us out. He was able to check our gear he how it suggested the right line for reals he spoiled six of Oreos he assisted my coworker in getting a new real with line he also help me out by putting us his hooks on my jigs ranging from 100 g to 200 g he then showed us how to do a few knots he showed us how to tie our leader he showed us how to set up certain rigs when fishing we spend about 2 hours in that store and the whole time that gave us his full attention even though he was assisting other guests and answering their questions. Zach is an amazing employee and he helped us with all our questions I had told him that I went to Turner's to get my line school then when he checked it it was all bad it was spongy it was an on-tight and he showed me what to look for when getting your line School and that was a big huge tip for me this goes to say that I won't be going to Turner's anymore I used to go to save on tackle when I lived in an nearby City and they would always have the knowledge and took the time to walk you through how to use your gear and or what's required for whatever trip you're going on Zach was an amazing funny guy and I would highly suggest when you going to save on tackle speaking with Zack and having him help you out he was an awesome cat and everyone for him and his personality is what made the best experience here at savon tackle you guys have great employees and I want to thank you for what you guys do and taking the time to teach us a few things thank you very much and I hope I will be seeing you guys soon and for now on I'm going to boycott turners and take the hour and 20 minute drive to save on tackle thank you guys and thank you Zack especially!! read more

Its pretty sad..... I have been coming here for 25 years.This place used to be the go to place to get a good deal or some good advice on gear. But ever since the owners wife got in the store things have gone down hill big time. For one she is rude with customers and staff. She is not willing to work anything out with the customers eithier. I'm pretty sure she has driven away all the cool guys who used to work there. I know becuse they used complain about her all the time. Its just not fun or welcoming to go in anymore and forget about getting any kind of deal. Do your shopping on-line or at another tackle shop.
