They were packed and had trivia going on, but they still had plenty of places to sit inside and on the small patio. We had wanted to sit outside since the weather was nice, so we grabbed a table in the corner on the patio (it is a seat yourself establishment). After a while, a server came over to get our drink orders and we each ordered a water. I asked for a Bud Light on draft, which was listed on their menu, but he told me they only have it bottles and just had Michelob Ultra on draft that was similar. No problem, we each ordered one of those. Some time passed and I saw our server come out onto the patio, look at us, and promptly spin around to go back inside. A couple minutes later he returned with our waters and an apology about the beers taking a long time because "the bartender was too busy talking." I got more of the impression that he forgot to put in our order at all, hence the quick turnaround to get waters when he realized he never came back to our table. We put in our food orders in the meantime- I ordered the Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries and my husband ordered the roast beef sandwich with sweet potato fries. Drinks came out eventually and were huge/ice cold, which was nice. The food also came out within 10 minutes, which we had initially been happy about because we were so hungry and we still had an hour drive back to Indy. However, my Reuben sandwich had huge, thick chunks of meat vs thinly sliced beef and it was extremely hard to take bites of and took a long time to chew. I had to keep using my hands to rip pieces off the sandwich. There was also hardly any sauerkraut on it. My husband's roast beef sandwich had very little roast beef and absolutely no flavor, but was supposed to have a kick from the horseradish sauce. The sweet potato fries were good though, they just had a little too much salt on them. Overall, we had mixed reviews with our visit. Our beers were only $5.50 each, so that was a crazy good price. Not sure if it's just for trivia night or always like that. Several times throughout our visit we kept getting hit with the smell of cigarette smoke because the patio is off the main sidewalk and no one monitors that people are actually far enough away from the building. Super unpleasant. This is definitely a fun place to meet friends for drinks, but I'd pass on the sandwiches and see if other menu options are better.

So when we got to Columbus, we headed here first. It's basically a dive bar with a little restaurant attached, which is super fun. The server was super friendly and helpful - he got us seated and grabbed drinks immediately. My dad obviously knew what he wanted, but the rest of us needed a moment. Go for the fried pickles! They were so good that we didn't even have a chance to take a pic. The breading was super flavorful and crunchy, and if you're a fan, definitely get them. Half of us got the pork tenderloin sandwich, the others got fish and chips. Everything was really good - I liked them both, and they were both accompanied by great French fries. We ordered 3 tenderloin sandwiches and two fish and chips lunches. Lunch was underwhelming. The meat on the sandwiches wasn't dry or tough, but, there was no seasoning to speak of and therefore, pretty tasteless. Salt, ketchup, pickles, hot sauce, these were the condiments used by those three diners to give their sandwiches some flavor. Sad. The fish and chips were good. The fish needs salt, which is a whole lot better than being overly salty. And the fries were well salted and very good. The beer selection is good and all the beer drinkers enjoyed their drinks. Service was excellent and we enjoyed meeting our server. Nice young man who was friendly and pleasant.

I also ordered a chicken salad sandwich and ended up taking half of it to go. It was tasty but it surprisingly had onions in it which I would not have expected with red grapes in it. Our waitress was top notch as she checked on us several times. The restaurant was perfect for dining. Not too loud. I am looking forward to coming again while I am in Nashville for the week.

We discovered we really liked their bistro sauce, great dipping sauce for the onion rings or your tender loin. They don't make it in house, it's Ken's steak house brand. Our waitress was so nice, she it was slow so she told us about Nashville a little and went back to the kitchen to get the bistro sauce info. The inside is warm and friendly, it would be fun to be here in the fall/winter with the fireplace going.

Upland Brewing Company is a local brewery that started in Bloomington, Indiana in 1998. Now, they have a number of popular restaurants/pubs across Indiana. The building, built in 1871, served as the Pump House supplying water to the city of Columbus, Indiana. The Pump House faced financial, water and quality challenges over the years, but was instrumental in industrial growth of the city. The Pump House operated until 1950, when the city moved to well water. The Pump House served a number of businesses and organizations since 1950. Upland opened the pub in 2016. We were greeted and promptly seated in the bar when we entered. Our server/bartender, Jess, was attentive and friendly. Several other servers also engaged with us, as well. One brought me a fascinating pamphlet describing the history of the building because I was curious. We arrived in time to sample their 3:00 - 5:00 pm Happy Hour. (I love a good Happy Hour.) We ordered Dragonfly IPAs, which went down smooth on a hot summer day. We also enjoyed a couple of sliders from the Happy Hour menu. The Bad Elmer's Fav burger was good with lots of bacon but my favorite was the Hoosier Tenderloin. I should note that much of the food is locally sourced. The building has a large dining room, bar, private dining, private event room, and a fabulous patio with river views. The landscaping is gorgeous. Their signature beers are available for purchase to go along with the logo shirt and a few other logo items. I highly recommend a visit. The food and beer are first class. The setting is lovely and service is attentive.

Matter of fact I'm not sure if I want to go back. We were sat in an almost empty restaurant but that was most likely because of time of day (around 2). The garlic bread was simply a hoagie bun with cheese, warmed just enough to melt the cheese, leaving the bread soggy instead of toasted. The pizza tasted as if it had been microwaved, with the cheese having that unappetizing plastic-like texture. Between the bugs indoors, the restroom issue, the lackluster service, and the disappointing food, this will not be a place we return to.
