So - let me preface this by saying we've had some good experiences with Savage throughout COVID and pizza has been consistently solid. Ordered online for carryout this time - one gluten-free pizza and one normal pizza crust. The normal crust pizza was fine, though they forgot 2 of the 5 toppings. The gluten free pizza, though, was inedible due to a badly burnt crust. It smelled and tasted like carbon. I'm not sure what happened as most of the toppings weren't burnt too bad - just the underside. What gives this review 2 stars is the fact that we can't get in contact with the store to try to make it right. Their phone goes straight to basically a "disconnected" message and there is no email listed on their website. I wish I had checked the pizzas before driving 15 minutes home. The highlights of this low-key pizza joint are (1) super hero decor (the exterior is already striking, see the photo) and (2) neighborhood (the vibrant arty Little Five Points). I first want to start by saying this place has some of the best toppings I have ever seen offered. There is a long list of regular and premium toppings to choose from. As a pizza lover, I had a lot of fun creating my pie. The customer service here was also great because the cashier was helpful and provided suggestions to make the best tasting pizza I could possibly have. As far as the taste, the crust comes out a little crispy which is something I prefer. The pizza is also not overwhelmed with cheese. The one thing I do wish they did was have a little more sauce on the pizza. Some bites can be dry especially if you have many toppings on top. For being a small town pizza shop, this place rocks! I love the price, taste and reliability. A small pizza is pretty decent in size and you can customize it as you want. Im usually pretty set with their veggie option. Ive also had some calzones and they are good but a little dense for me. The salads are standard but a good add on if you want to limit the pizza intake. The food comes out fast and the staff are super friendly. Definitely got some super serious hipster vibes. read more

You can find this location of Savage Pizza at 484 Moreland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307 in what's known as Little Five Points. This is to the right of The Junkman's Daughter when facing that venerable local store in a short strip mall, with the restaurant on the end closest to Junkman's. This is, I believe my second visit to this location of Savage at this location, as I remember if more fondly at the older location on North Highland - I used to travel by it when going to work as it was between where I lived in L5P and Indigo Coastal Grill (the last restaurant where I worked, across from the first Alon's location on North Highland). Savage was one of those fantastic pizza options in an area that had several (both Fellini's and Johnny's were closer to my old home). I just always preferred Savage due to the fantastic dough and fresh ingredients. I'm happy to report that Savage is just as good as I remembered it from the old location in it's new home, closer to L5P's "heart." If you've never been to a Savage Pizza location, you'll note that the concept includes many covers from classic Marvel and DC comic book covers. I remember fondly the Silver Surfer mural at the original location and much of that flavor has been retained at this new location (my apologies for referring to this as "New" as it's been at this location for some time - old habits). This is a smaller restaurant with very limited parking, and yes, there is an annoying attendant that will try to get you to pay - just make sure you tell him your there for Savage and he should allow you to park without handing over your greenbacks. Besides great pizza you can chug down several local craft brews and get great service, something L5P isn't necessarily known for. On this occasion we ordered a couple of pies and they were very good. The crust here was perfect. The weather was clear if a bit cold and the experience quite fine with good friends - you can't do much better than that. read more

We were in the little five points area and saw Savage Pizza. I've heard a lot about this place and so had my boyfriend so we decided to stop by and get a pizza. It was around three or four in the afternoon we got seated rather quickly. The inside is nice and cute. Has a lot of superhero decorations. There's also an outdoor seating area. There's also private parking. First let me say that our waiter was amazing. He was super nice and attentive and I had zero issues with him. We ordered a pizza, off the menu, I forgot the exact name of it. It was something that they had as a specialty pizza. I was not a fan of it. Overall I would say that it's very low quality to average. It looked awesome but the sauce was watery and the pizza was rather soggy-ish. I will probably try this place one more time and get something different because maybe it was just the type of pizza we ordered but for right now I would stick to my three star rating. I would even say that it was a 2.5 star for the food but the service was rather good. Maybe I'll give this place another try in the future to see if another type of pizza is better. First time at this pizza place. We ordered a medium chicken Florentine type of pizza to share amongst two people so that was about 4 slices each, I believe. I was full after the 3rd slice though. The pizza was really good but greasy as is all pizza. I had a glass of water but the cup was dirty. The total was $17.37 just for that one specialty pizza. The waiter lacked any emotion. He took our order, served us and went on his way. His attitude was as if he didn't want to be there. Maybe he was having a bad day or that's just how he is. Who knows but he needs to change that when working in a customer service environment. The inside is decorated with superhero's. Marvel everything like a comic book but it's cute . The inside is so small though. It probably has about 10 small tables inside and some outdoor seating which was nice but it's too hot for it even though they had several fans out there, it did not help so we opted to sit inside. The parking is an open lot but they have spots reserved for savage pizza customers so we had a parking right in front. Savage is a Little 5 Point standard. We typically get a Pizza Buttafucco and one of the chicken based pizzas. The Buttafucco is always on point! A great balance of cheesy, flavorful, meaty goodness on a crust that is not too thick or thin. We can eat a couple of slices and be comfortable. The chicken base ones are hit or miss. Once we got the Corden Blue and it was great, another time, the sauce seemed a wee bit oily. We have generally picked up or had curb side delivered to the car. Recently, we were charged fee 15% fee for the delivery driver to bring the pizza to the car, which is a joke. We tip usually anyway, but it was annoying to pay $7 for someone to walk about 30 steps. Other than that, Savage Pizza makes good pies. You just gotta know what you like. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Little Five Points for a casual meal with tasty options--pizza, calzones, subs, and salad--at reasonable prices. I have mostly been doing take out or delivery lately and taking note of which establishments are following COVID safe protocols. I was relieved to see that Savage Pizza is doing all the right things to keep customers and staff alike safe. Right now, they are only doing carry-out orders, require masks, have hand sanitizer at the door, menus taped up in the window to reduce folks coming in unnecessarily, and even separate clean and used pens at the register. Made us feel much more comfortable. On our most recent visit, two of us split the 9" Bolognese Pizza ($8.75) and the Chicken Calzone ($8.75). The wait wasn't bad at all (15 minutes) and the staff were helpful and friendly. One thing I also love about this place is the old school comic book / superhero theme and fun atmosphere. They actually do have a small outdoor patio but are currently not seating folks for dine-in right now. In terms of getting there, if by car there is a decent amount of parking in the surface lot they share with other businesses. Parking can be hit or miss generally in the busy L5P area, but I haven't had an issue in their lot. It's also located decently close to the PATH trail near Freedom Park if you're in the area on foot or bike. There's a bike rack on the far left side of the lot for locking up. Pro tip: with them only doing take out right now, consider bringing a picnic blanket and enjoying your order at Freedom Park just a short walk away! In terms of the grub, as always, the food was great. I appreciate that they don't skimp on the filling in the calzones. I also really love their tomato sauce. It's so nicely seasoned with spices. One thing that I should note, which is not a bad thing at all but is just about pizza preference really, is that their dough/crust--which is delicious--is not as greasy as other pizza places might be. I enjoy not having oil stains on my hands from my crust, but I do know some people prefer that kind of pizza. Just wanted to point that out so folks have the right expectations. Especially for the reasonable prices, I think their menu and food quality is hard to beat! I haven't been in Savage in some time although pre-pandemic I visited a few times a month after moving into the neighborhood and made it there quite often even when I lived in Va Highlands. Lately its just been delivery and that's been OK. I went in this week and I couldn't believe the change. I sat at a table for a while before I realized they don't wait tables anymore and I noticed everyone eating out of delivery boxes. Then when I go to order I discover they no longer serve draft beer. This place has been a neighborhood gem for many years but its taken a long fall. Its too bad because it was at the top of my list for a couple of pies they have there.
