Not only was it one of the coolest stores to walk into. The staff was singing while making pizza! The infamous song "let's dance" by David Bowie. As I walked up to place my order I encountered a "the beautiful" in the open area and placed my order. I was a first timer and was not sure how good of the experience I would have because it was my first. I was pleasantly surprised! The pizza was really good. I'm not much of a meat lover when it comes to pizza but the black olives the garlic and the mushroom was the hit! Ya know this USED to be my favorite pizza joint in the ATL. Unfortunately, I can't give it more than 3 stars these days as I'd be lying if I did. The restaurant is clean and the staff have always been friendly, never anything but positive interactions. Now the most important part...food. Admittedly, I've only ever had the pizza. It's always been so good that to order anything else would have left me craving their fabulous pizza. Lately, as in the past few times I've been there, their pizza hasn't been good. Their prices are reasonable, but that's been the only decent aspect. I ordered takeout the past few times and each time I've come home to eat it and it's been inedible. The pizza was soggy, cheese barely melted and the bottom barely brown. I don't know about you, but I like the bottom brown to dark brown...you know, cooked. I'm not swearing off Savage forever, but I am swearing it off for a while....at least until whomever is cooking the pizza learns to leave it in the oven! When I tell y'all this was the BEST pizza I've had in SO LONG, I am not embellishing. I've traveled quite a bit and the only thing that has it beat is my all-time fave, NY style. I enjoyed a customized veggie pizza w/ mushrooms, onions, peppers, and olives. The crust was absolutely perfect and out of about 10 slices, I ate 6. Didn't feel sluggish or heavy after eating at all. Not to sound like I'm saying the same thing as the person a couple comments away, but this is simply to give constructive feedback so the people who need to know find out and possibly make some positive changes. Our pizza was beyond burnt, the sauce had basically cooked away and the cheese was spotty at best. We all managed to pick at one piece each but that was it, I was super disappointed. I grew up here and just moved back after 15 years. Little 5 was my old stomping grounds and I can't even remember how often we ended up grabbing pizza from Savage. I finally got to bring my son and husband after hyping it up and this is what we got. Such a bummer since we live in the 'burbs now and this was a passing-through-the-city-treat. Decent pizza joint located in the heart of L5P. I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Savage for a pizza, but if you're in the area, it's definitely worth a try. Full disclosure: I did a carry out order, not dine-in. So I can't speak to that experience. The pizza was ready when I got there, which was nice. Didn't really have to wait long. The hostess was working very hard to get everyone's order paid for and taken care of in a timely fashion. The pizza itself is just alright. It's a very saucy pizza and the sauce is...interesting. It has almost a mealy quality to it. It's very garlicky also, if you're okay with that. The crust is kinda dry - needs a marinara or oil to dip in. The pepperoni were nice and crispy. My boyfriend and I came here based on a friend's suggestion. I was very disappointed with it though. We came on a Saturday night, so there were a lot of people waiting to get a table but luckily it only took us about 20 mins to get seated. I ordered a Hawaiian Pizza with jalapenos. They were very busy and understaffed it seemed like because our waitress only checked on us about once or twice. A friend we were with didn't even get to order a beer because she took so long to come check on us. The pizza took like an hour or so to come out. I normally wouldn't have minded the wait if the pizza was good, but it wasn't The cheese on the pizza seemed very cheap, it was almost like a school cafeteria pizza. The size of the pineapple on the pizza were big but I appreciated that because I love pineapple. It was def canned pineapple, but it's fine. I definitely would not come here again on a busy night. For V-Day, all my lovely wanted was a note in my pizza box. She called, and the guy who took her call could not of been more receptive and nice. I've always had a soft spot for Savage, the funky pizza joint in L5P. The pizza is not great, but it's pretty good, and the people are always friendly. But tonight the ball was dropped: my experience with a delivery order was awful on several levels. The person taking my order was brusque and imperious and insisted that the coupon on the Web site must be printed, no exceptions. Whatever. But when the pizzas came, they were both burnt to a crisp. Tasteless carbon piza is not my idea of good flavor. Coincidence? Who knows. Whether via incompetence, carelessness, or malevolence, no matter: each is enough to ensure that I will probably not be getting pizza delivered by Savage again. A good Pineapple and Canadian bacon ratio, not too much or too little of either. - Mexican Deluxe (with sour cream and jalapeños, sans black olives) : the beans and ground beef really makes it unique in the best way possible. - Sweet Tea Service - our server was quick with taking our order. They also have a great array of salads, subs, and calzones. The place itself is decked out in epic comic book flare. I mean EVERYWHERE! Even in the bathrooms! I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some cosplayers stopped by in full costume to enjoy the goodness here. My lady and I decided to get it to go. Looking through the great options for specialty pizzas, we went with a large bolognese (red wine marinara sauce, Italian sausage, sun-dried tomatoes, red onions, mushrooms, parmesan and mozzarella cheese. 16" for $19.75). We added fresh basil for a small extra charge. How was it, you ask? Amazing like Spider-Man! Even Deadpool would exclaim, "Holy s*#tballs, that's good!!!" So if you like great pizza in a comic book haven atmosphere, check this place out. The apple-wood bacon had a strong taste which overpowered the entire pizza and caused it to taste bland IMO (she loved the pizza), but on to the drinks... The drinks were huge! Not to mention, free refills, but who needs a refill when the cups are as big a cereal bowl? If you do, then congratulations, you have an unlimited bladder (I'm not judging if you do though). A fun, laid-back spot to grab tasty pizza - situated in a great neighborhood for exploring. I love the chill vibe in here with comics on the walls, buckets of toys for kids, tables that are plenty big enough with those pizza stands that always make you feel so fancy when you use them... there's also plenty of patio space outside if you want to nosh al fresco. The staff is relaxed, casual and a bit punk-rock - but not at all rude or disinterested. They were all super helpful and super informative, and completely willing to tackle my (numerous) special requests. They checked on us a ton and didn't scoff when we wanted "only water" to drink. Savage pizza is savagely good. I actually got the sav-veg (veggie pizza) with a couple modifications - no mozzarella (ricotta only - and they gave me plenty of it) and added chicken (again, added a very substantial portion). I loved that the toppings were plentiful, that the whole wheat crust was crisp but chewy and had a light nutty taste. The garlic tomato sauce adding extra zing - and the server was happy to bring me a little extra on the side for dipping, too. The menu had tons of options for sauce, crust and toppings - definitely more choice than your average pizza joint, and they infuse herbs and spices to make the toppings even more interesting. The other folks at my table got a custom pizza and a plain cheese. Both looked amazing. A small would easily feed one person - probably with a slice to spare. A decent take-out option during COVID. They're very safety conscious and disinfect everything-- even the pen you use to sign-- when you pick up. Located in the parking lot on Moreland and you don't have to pay for parking if you're picking up or going to one of the shops in the lot. The pizza was good but not great; build your own is a nice option because of the customizable sauce and toppings. I got mine with white sauce and jalapeños and banana peppers. The strange aspect of this pizza was that it was so soggy when I first started eating it-- and I began eating within 5 minutes of pick up, so I know it's not because it was sitting out. The cheese was sliding off of the pizza in a big clump with all of the toppings attached. It was very gooey and greasy. By the third slice, it had actually firmed up and was a better texture. The initial gooeyness is the reason for the minus stars; it was bizarre to have to scoop the entire cheese/topping mixture back onto the pizza for half of the pie. All in all, I'll continue to support because they're the closest to me, but I wouldn't go out of my way if I didn't live in the area. read more
