I urge you to carefully consider this before contracting with any hospice provider. Unfortunately, our experience with Faith & Hope made an already painful situation even harder. In April 2025, my mom suffered a massive stroke. She was placed under Continuous Care (CC), which meant she required critical, around-the-clock nursing support. We were told her case would be re-evaluated after three days. However, the care was stopped in less than 24 hours and we were given only 4 hours' notice that services would be discontinued. At that point, it was clear our needs no longer aligned with Faith & Hope's philosophy of care. We scrambled to hire private help on extremely short notice. That night, my mom was in significant pain & experienced agitation. She needed her medication adjusted and an increase of the dosage frequency to help manage her symptoms. The next day, we made final attempts to Faith & Hope to reassess mom's eligibility for CC, even though the on-call night nurse, when we asked, did acknowledge that we were free to seek another hospice provider. We waited all day for a response from Faith & Hope, but heard nothing. Faced with another evening without adequate care, we transferred my mom to a different hospice. They gave us the right care without hesitation. Sadly, our mom passed away only 4 days later. The only positive experience we had with Faith & Hope was with Nurse Theresa. She cared for my mom with compassion, dedication and a true commitment to patient advocacy. Theresa's thoughtfulness and support helped guide my brothers and me through an incredibly challenging time, and for that we are deeply grateful.

Hard to believe a medical service can be as attentive as a fine dining restaurant, but that is what…read morethis was. We used Five Star for about five days. Medicare and Optum covered the hospice side. I paid separately for 24/7 caregivers through Sincere Care Services, which I chose because I wanted Cantonese and Mandarin speakers so my mother would be more comfortable. Five Star was recommended by the Optum physician on staff. Separately, a family member recommended them too, through a friend whose father had passed the week before. I checked their ratings on Yelp and Google before moving forward, and I am extremely happy with the service we got from start to finish. This is the point where you decide between more hospital intervention, which can be painful, and accepting the situation and moving to hospice. Hospice is the wedding coordinator for a peaceful death. Things can still go wrong even when you plan everything perfectly, but Five Star was there at every step to handle whatever came up. The rough sequence for anyone about to do this: 1. Decide on hospice. 2. Line up caregivers. They are separate from Five Star, but Five Star will point you to good ones. I wanted Chinese-speaking caregivers and Mark made it happen. 3. Coordinate with the hospital on transportation. 4. Be home to receive the supplies. 5. Be home when your loved one arrives. Have a bottle of distilled water ready for the oxygen machine. 6. Have the nurse and the caregiver both there so you can learn the comfort meds. 7. I used 24/7 caregivers on 12-hour shifts. I made a point of being there whenever a new caregiver came on, so I could walk them through the medications and get their phone number. Nurses came once a day to check on my mother since she was close. You do not have to be there the whole time, but I tried to be there for shift changes. One thing I wish I had watched more closely was bowel movements. My mother had been constipated since the hospital because she was not eating. Another tip: put together a playlist of beautiful music to play in the room. Otherwise it is silence, or your loved one is listening to caregivers talk and scroll on their phones. Even when your loved one is not responsive, they are still listening and drifting in and out. Tell them everything will be okay. Thank them for everything they did for you. I think it helps them go peacefully. Anytime I needed something, Mark was a text or a call away and he always answered. Again, they are the wedding coordinators for a loved one's passing, and they will do everything within their power to help you through it.

Later that day, 5 Star Hospice called and took immediate action to be informed of my mom's condition. For the next two weeks until my mom's passing, a round of expert nurses came to the house to review my mom's condition. They guided and instructed my sister what to look out for, what were the pain medication options for my mom depending on her pain levels. We had a bathing nurse come to the house couple times a week. She did an excellent job bathing my mom and allowed us to assist. The bathing nurse was gentle, and compassionate. I was initially nervous and worry how the bathing nurse would be around my mom, but she assured my sister and I that she treats every patient as if they were one of her loved ones. As time came close the Chaplin from 5 Star called to offer spiritual and grievance support. On the night of my mom's passing Chaplin Hector came to the house at 10pm. He spoke beautifully words over my mom about Jesus last dinner with the 12 disciples and how he already had a seat ready for my mom. He told her to hold and hug onto the light and anointed my mom with a blessing of oil on her forward and heart. This was extremely important to me to have my mom blessed and last rites spoken to her since I don't know if my mom was baptism or did the 1st communion. Chaplin Hector was also gracious enough to led service at my mom's funeral. We also had a social worker from 5 Star come to the house to guide my sister and I on mortuary planning as painful as it was but necessary. What I learned from everyone at 5 Star, most have previously lost a loved so I automatically knew we were in good hands. My wife has been under the care of Burbank Hospice since last year, when she spent two months in…read morethe hospital battling two major vascular surgeries, pneumonia, septic shock, two weeks in the ICU, and the underlying illness driving all this...Multiple Sclerosis. Once she was stable, the hospital's palliative care team recommended discharging her to hospice care. I spent a lot of time coordinating with the hospital hospice representative only to be told a day before discharge that their agency could not care for my wife since she had an open and infected surgical wound plus another open healing wound. None of the other major hospice companies would help us either. As you can imagine, this caused us a great deal of stress and anxiety. After making a few calls, the doctor found Burbank Hospice Care who stepped up and took on the challenge This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The Burbank Hospice team took on my wife's case energetically, managed the difficult wounds with a "wound vac" and pic line, and monitored her lingering pneumonia and other infections. Slowly, over time, my wife rallied with this excellent care despite the fact that the doctors only gave her days to two weeks to live after she was sent home. Burbank Hospice staff provided all of the necessary equipment, supplies and prescriptions, which was monitored by regular visits from the agency's nurses. Whenever I have a concern or a worry, the Burbank Hospice team responds quickly and with compassion. Recently, my wife had another setback after a procedure and spent three weeks in the hospital. Again, Burbank Hospice was there after discharge to oversee her care and she is now resting comfortably. My wife's battle with this chronic illness has been an isolating experience with few visits from family and friends. The Burbank Hospice team is now like family to us. Their care, compassion and responsiveness have taken a lot of stress out of a very stressful situation. As soon as we decided to switch to hospice care, we've been in touch with a few places but Maximum Care Hospice felt most transparent and comprehensive. Other places were a bit unclear about who is coming from where and what exactly is being provided with hospice care. Switching to hospice care was a difficult decision, but we are so happy to have chosen Maximum Care. We had a wonderful nurse Victoria. It was a short seven days but she provided all the support that we needed. There was no judgement whatsoever (my father was difficult) and she was very respectful and kind. We had a somewhat unusual circumstance, where the police had to be in touch with them (due to my father's passing as a result of a crime), but they handled it all very graciously. Equipment delivery and pickup was excellent. They are contracted with a place called St Joseph's and every staff from there was respectful and friendly. We also had a wonderful woman come to bathe my father before he passed away She was very thorough and efficient. I believe she isn't an employee but someone who is contracted to provide personal care to several hospices, but she had told me that she tries to take every job requested by Maximum Care because they treat her very well. When my father passed, Victoria came immediately and connected us with their recommended mortuary. My cousin, who is experienced with contacting mortuaries at her church community, was very impressed how seamless and "easy" Maximum Care made the process.
