Some of these low reviews surprise me and really make me sad because this has been my local grocery store for 8 years now and I really like this store. The workers always recognize me and they are all friendly. Some have even gone out of their way to be accommodating to me. The prices seem comparable to other similar size grocery stores. I read a complaint about the store not carrying items they used to and this isn't always the stores fault. That person also always has the option to make a special order request and if it's still an available item, they will order it for you. I have nothing bad to say about my local store. Oh! Actually I do have one complaint. They started closing at 10 pm during the pandemic and they have chosen to keep these earlier closing hours. That bums me out because I tend to shop late but I still love this Save Mart and I can forgive them for closing earlier. Lol. I would say this is my reliable neighborhood store, but the truth is that I drive like 6 miles outside of my neighborhood to get here because my neighborhood store blows (looking at you, Raley's on Freeport). The pros: - Friendly employees, every time. - Clean and well organized store. - Surprisingly good hours. - Good selection of products (including produce). - Reasonable prices and good sales. - Great parking. - Carts are cleaned and well maintained. - The butcher's section has really great prices on decent meat, and they have a bunch of ready-to-cook stuff for quick weeknight meals (pro tip: the chicken fajita mix and peppered bacon are awesome). - The deli and bakery are both really good. - Good selection of cheeses. - Reasonable or only very slightly overpriced alcohol (still glaring at you, Raley's). - Great and easy to use rewards program. - The people who shop here act like human being who are aware that there are other human beings who are also shopping here and they don't act like total a-holes (RALEY'S!) The cons: - Triple check expirations dates on pre-packages produce and deli items. I've gotten some stinkers that were bad when I bought them (which the store took back for a refund). - The prices on home goods, frozen foods, and beauty supplies kind of suck. I generally skip the entire middle of the store unless I just need one thing and don't want to make another stop. read more

Good selection in all departments, from beer to bread and soup to nuts. Some friendly staffers, but some checkout staff who couldn't be ruder if they were coached on obnoxiousness by a trained professional. Use the self check lane, and avoid the pain. read more

DEli department Stop laying your old ham and turkey precut in the counter, tired of getting DRIED meat, stop throwing it in the plastic bag all bunch up! I REALLY want to support businesses in my neighborhood and have been going to Save Mart for the most part for the last three years with the occasional trips to Corti's (for the good stuff). Stock level is always pretty good and prices aren't bad. The quality of fresh products however has suffered over the last year or so. On several occasions I have gotten ill from food from their deli. Same for packaged ground turkey I bought. Even though it didn't come out of their meat department, it must have been sitting in stock a while. I bought a gallon of milk without paying attention to the date and it had a "best by" date marked for three days later. On that same day I was trying to find romaine lettuce that hadn't turned brown and could not find even one. Maybe the fact they are so well stocked means things are on the shelf a lot longer than they should. The regular cashier lines can be long and move slowly so I preferred using the self checkout. I could usually check out my items and be out the door in five minutes or so. I'm talking past tense since they made the self-check lanes 15 items or less. Ugh. Customer service is whatever...kind of hit and miss. Sometimes they have time for you and sometimes not. Certainly not a deal breaker and didn't dissuade me from shopping with them before. Honestly I'm looking forward to the new Raley's opening on Howe. A little extra competition means more options and hopefully forces Save Mart to up their game. read more

Last night made me realize that I needed to update this review. I'm not sure if management has read my reviews or they've just started hiring nicer people, but the issues I've had have all been rectified. Every time I go to the deli counter, whoever helps me has a smile on his or her face and is happy to help me and also show me the meat when I ask for it sliced in a specific way. I'm a particular kind of girl, okay? The baggers have also been much better since my last review. They pack things delicately so eggs don't get crushed and nectarines don't get ruined. One of the cashiers last night saw my Yelp tote bag and told the bagger not to crush my eggs so I wouldn't write them a bad review ;) sly guy. read more

Standard grocery store. The prices are a little higher than the sister store 'Food Source' but it is a little cleaner, bigger, more organized, and has a wider selection of things. I get my Christmas tree here every year for $19.95 and they will help you get it on top of your car for you. Nice guys. They often have very good sales on the standard stuff I stock up on like strawberries, bread, chicken, and wine. Usually this store has the cheapest price for Skyy vodka when I need booze and don't want to go to Total Wine. The staff is helpful and are nice when checking you out. And they will help you bag your groceries unlike Food Source! I still prefer Food Source and its relaxed ways. I don't mind bagging my own things and saving a bit more. read more

This Savemart is okay.... I went here to pick up some Nutella because their weekly ad said they had BOGO Nutella. Who doesn't like Chocolate Spread??? and if I can get two for the price of one, I am all in! The store was clean and organized. Went to the aisle just to find that the item was out of stock. Knowing that I may not be able to make it out here on a lunch anytime soon, I decided to get a rain check for the item I want. The person who wrote up my rain check was really nice however the manager behind him was giving me the stink eye. She came up behind him and handed him a notice that the Nutella BOGO coupon was limited to $4.29. She said in a snotty voice "they have to pay the difference!" Okay.... While it's not the worst grocery store I've ever been to, it's pretty darn close. One day while I was shopping, I was wandering through the produce section when I noticed an employee was sweeping. He saw a runaway tomato and instead of bending over to pick it up from under the display, HE USED THE DIRTY BROOM to pull it into arms reach and put it back in with the other tomatoes. I can't even begin to count the number of times I go there and the shelves are still being stocked. I've been in the morning and during the afternoon when half the aisles are blocked by boxes of warming milk products and defrosting TV dinners. Shouldn't this be done early in the morning like at 5 am or something? Is this place about to go BK or is the management just that awful? read more

I've shopped here many times when visiting my mom up in Sacramento, and they are a good store! They have all the standard items, the store is always clean and the employees are very friendly and helpful. On our most recent Saturday afternoon visit, we were offered samples of International Delight iced coffee by a very friendly and talkative employee, and upon my checkout I was offered a tip on how to save a few cents with every checkout by using a code for my cloth grocery bag. He made a point of saying to always ask an employee for that code, and soon not only would the bag pay for itself, I would begin to make money on it. Love it! Major points also go to SaveMart for carrying the limited edition wine Apothic Rose. Wine markets and high end grocery stores in my neighborhood, reliable places normally, did not hook me up. There were some superfast undercover ninjas that came to this old Albertson's and changed the sign to Save Mart. I went here tonight to check out the "new" store, where you don't need a card to get the "savings". I found the prices were a little more expensive than Albertson's and there are green and yellow price tags everywhere. Some of them advertise savings and some of them advertise super savings. It's a little confusing but after spending more than an hour there with the slowest shopper on earth [the husb.] I was able to deduce that the real sale signs are the green ones. At the checkout the customer in front of us bought one item and said that the price was more expensive than Albertson's. My first feeling is that I really don't like this new place. Not too many good deals and way less employees working...but I'll try it out a few more times and adjust this review if its warranted since I am powerful. read more

This Save Mart is a decent locale to get the shopping done. I find the employees to be less than enthusiastic most of the time but helpful when asked. The layout is pretty grocery store standard and most items are pretty easy to find. I wish the produce had more variety than the standard options one might find anywhere else. The organic section is small but reasonably priced. They do have some great deals on their weekly flyer items and occasional beer discounts which seem to good to pass on. My highlight of shopping here was when shopping for Burning Man, I left my notebook in the cart. Losing it sucked donkey since it was full of notes, shopping lists, my packing list and contact info for my fellow camp mates. I went back to look for it twice that evening to no avail. One of the managers said he would keep an eye out for it. When I went back the next morning, he raced up to me, grinning from ear to ear and waving my rediscovered notebook over his head. Suffice to say, I was thrilled and touched at his enthusiasm. I promptly offered a small finders fee which he politely declined. I'll keep shopping here as I've finally oriented myself to the location of most items and as its the closest viable option in my neighborhood. read more

Save Mart is definitely a place of convenience. The employees have always been super nice, and I appreciate that greatly. Parking is ample. Selections are typical grocery store. Bonus, they have super lotto. I just don't get a ton of savings at "Save" Mart. When compared to SafeWay or Trader Joes I don't see a huge difference. I do appreciate a close supermarket though, and it's a-ok in my book! read more

I stop at this location mostly when I am also stopping at Petco next door. What I appreciate about this one in particular is that they have a very well stocked vegetarian/vegan/faux meat/tofu section. It's easily found, being located at the end of the produce area. They are very good at having a lot of the latest new vegan faux cheeses, and lots of faux meat choices;a lot better than some of the other chain grocery stores in the area, and at better prices. read more

Why, in a city nicknamed "Sackatomatoes" , can't I find a decent Beefsteak, Brandywine, Cherokee Purple or Green Zebra? I think it's a crime that the big chains in this town carry such a trifling selection of produce. I shouldn't have to wait until the weekend farmer's market or shlep all the way to Whole Foods or The Co Op just to put together a proper salad. SaveMart blows. read more

By far some of the best customer service of any buisiness I frequent. Often I have called the "Question/Comments" number on the reciept just to send along a compliment. The employees have this keen instinct, able to tell right away if you're looking for something and always ready to help. One employee even waited a second while I loaded my final 2 bags so that he could take my cart for me. The prices are competitive and usually pretty fair. Good sales. I do wish they had better deals on frozen fruits, something I buy often. I cringe every time I pick up a bag of frozen strawberries, knowing that at Winco they have a bigger bag and for a lower price. Savemart also has a bakery, a deli, a meat counter, and a fish/seafood counter- which has never disappointed me. Big plus: we got our Christmas tree here. It was perfect, fresh, full, beautiful, and only $40. read more

Yep, definitely not the worst (Bel Air) but it comes in at a close second. It seems like almost every time I come here I walk out with an empty hand basket saying why did I bother? Sometimes I will walk out with something on sale, just so I didn't waste a trip. But almost allll the time after I leave here, I am on my way to another grocery store. There are always long lines. Backed up to the isle. They don't have anything special worth going there for though. One time they had a really good sale on drinks, but I haven't seen it since. I guess one good thing is either before or after you shop you can head next door and rent a movie and grab a sandwich and some ice cream. read more

I too found the prices to be higher than Albertson's even though Save Mart claimed to have a lower price. I am bargain shopper and I remember the price of almost everything I buy - anyway I noticed several items where they jacked up the Albertson's prices to make Save Mart prices appear cheaper. The place is clean and much nicer than ghetto Food Source. The produce dept looked great - but Safeway had better specials. Oh yeah and the bagger almost crushed my loaf bread with a bag of potatoes. Come on now, that's just sloppy. I give this place a few years before Whole Foods takes over the space. read more

This Store has improved since last review so close to Home. Been going to this neighborhood store since the 1960's and have seen it return recently to the quality store I once knew. Mostly I love this store - the customer service is great but the quality of the produce is starting to be unacceptable. I can't believe you're selling shriveled up avocados and onions that are wearing out and look frail. I'm noticing it more and more each time I go; I have had to throw out veggies and fruit because they just weren't good or already old. I only shop here because it is close to my house. And with that said, I only go there if I need very few things. The store always smells weird and to me it just has a general feeling of being dirty. I don't care for the brand of deli lunch meats they sell. The meat is alright and the produce is fine, although I feel like this store is a little on the expensive side. They had a B of A inside, but that is gone. They had a Starbucks inside, then it turned into a knock off coffee stand and now that is gone. There are 2 Red Box kiosks inside which can get pretty busy. I always seem to have problems at the self checkout lines. No I am not one of those people, but it never wants to read my ATM card and when I do have a problem with the actual transaction, it takes the checker a while to come over and help me, which is really annoying since 9 times out of 10 they are just standing there. read more

Love this save mart. Ive been coming here for years. Once lucky market, then Albertson's, and now Save Mart! I have always received great customer service and when you catch a deal at the meat deli..you are IN!! The fajita mix could use a bit more seasoning. The butchers are always so nice and helpful with my needs and also used to cut my meat and individually package them since I loved alone and would not want to defrost 10 chciken tenders for one dinner!! I wish they would have keep the Starbucks or coffee shop in there becuase it was really nice and near my house so It was the most convenient one to go to! On Rainy days, I loved getting a hot coffee and shopping after a long, wet day at Sac State. The produce department is really good also and the summer berry sales (buy one get one free) is so nice and is often occurring. All in all, I love this save mart. I have been to other ones around Sacramento and this one always seems very welcoming and "homey". Its nice because it doesn't seem as snobby as Safeway (and expensive) but not as dirty and trashy as a foodmax or food co!! read more

With the name Save Mart I was expecting some kind of warehouse store with the lowest prices around. It's not, and they don't; but what they do have is a whole lot of variety of products, wonderful produce, and something that especially delighted me ... knowledgeable and helpful staff. I probably won't be making this my regular grocery because it's not near my home, but if I'm in the area on the way home I would be happy to shop here, and it is a good place to find some of the things that aren't carried where I usually shop. read more

I've always had this back-of-the-mind notion that SaveMart was the devil. A low budget supermarket just trying to push the "Grocery Outlet" sparse selection and outdated and discounted products. Boy am I wrong. The Savemart on Folsom is one of the best supermarkets in the downtown area. I live within a half block of the Safeway on Alhambra and I can tell you that I will drive the mile and a half it is from my house to go to SaveMart over that over-priced, poor customer service craphole that Safeway has turned into. Their customer service is above and beyond. Always helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. They have over 100 organic fruit selections in their produce section, alone, as well as many healthy options and carry most everything that Safeway does, at a portion of the cost. I've been converted. Not only that, I cashed in on their "stamp" promotion that my Mom used to do when we were kids and got two free new pans (new 10" skillet and a stew pot) as a result. read more

This is the worst grocery store in the East Sacramento area. First and foremost you have to check the expiration date of all items you want to purchase as they continue to stock many products that are well past expiration. The store is horribly outdated; on this particular day three separate refrigeration systems were not cooling properly and were covered with plastic and cardboard in an attempt to keep the highly perishable food cool. The prices are extremely high; a quick trip to Raley's or better yet Safeway will show that you can nearly double your money with ease while bringing home better quality food. Just avoid this store, I was shopping here when it was Lucky and have watched it slide into a state of disrepair with no end in sight. read more

When I want great produce I shop this Savemart or the one on Fair Oaks, I think this store has been revamped because it seemed much more user friendly compared to my last visit about 1 year ago. Savemart has lowered prices so that is good. Any store employee who walk past me asked if there was anything they could help me find - I liked that. No complaints with Savemart. read more

Worst customer service ever! I was called a Jack ass! Behind my back by employee of Save mart. I heard and confronted her! I was just Frustrated at the selfcheck out (the screen was frozen) and I called for help because there was no one around and by time someone came over the transaction went through and I told her never mind and walked away and that's when she called me a jackass! I have shopped here off and on for a while; however, this has never been my go to place for a one stop grocery shopping adventure. Meat selection is not bad and pricing, especially in the grilling season, can be pretty good; so I will venture here to stock up on london broil or the like. Fish and seafood has never been a good bet here to date. Nor produce. The remaining aisles are okay but unless they are having a sale, I generally do not venture to this store to purchase much of anything anymore. All in all, it is just a so so store as far as pricing goes and produce is sometimes just on this side of being overripe. Best customer service I have found in the Sacramento area! I have crutches and am limited to 1or2 items without help. The 1st time I came here (we recently moved to East Sac), the minute I parked in the handicapped spot, I was met by Grant, who brought me a scooter even though I had to go to the pet store 1st. The scooter was there for me as soon as I was out of the pet store. And he was there to help me back to my car. Today Andrew was there, same level of help. They also have a nice selection of chilled wine, good butcher too! The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars was limited in some items I use regularly that I have to go to another store for. But this save mart is worth the trip. read more

This supermarket is, well, super, when you think of "super" being another word for "larger than normal size." And they have a pretty wide selection of items. I don't usually shop here, as it is not the closest. But when I am passing through the neighborhood, typically coming back from other East Sac errands, I stop here. Produce prices are fair and the selection is good. Especially for things like bananas and avocados, because it seems like the workers set aside the ripe ones on the shelf, instead of throwing them out like other stores. Also, it is my experience that seafood staff are eager to help and knowledgeable about the products. Did you know they sell thresher shark here? Yes. The seafood guy asked me if I had any questions. So I asked. "What is thresher shark and how do you cook it?" He did not say, "Oh, I don't know." So I bought some. Probably this store has a section for the "natural" or "healthy" items, but on my last visit I noticed those kinds of things on the same shelves as the "regular" stuff, which I liked. I do not like having to hunt around, wasting time just because there is a special word on the label.
