a cute little bakery, one of my favorites in sac. the workers here are always so friendly! i got the corn & ricotta croissant and tomato & feta croissant, both were very delicious. the croissants for both were delicious, flaky, buttery goodness. the corn & ricotta filling was really good, the ricotta definitely is the star of the show and the corn is on the back burner, but it provides nice texture to the pastry. i do wish the corn had a stronger flavor but i still enjoyed it nonetheless. the tomato & feta was definitely my favorite of the two, both of the components complimented each other very well. the tomato provided a bright tangy flavor, while the feta is a milder cheese but still has a prominent flavor. read more

Possibly the best bakery I've tried in the Sac area. Small parking lot so we ended up parking a block up the street and walked down. There is no seating inside but there are a few benches outside. I think the favorite thing I got here was their "not pizza" which was their sourdough bread topped with delicious tomato sauce, cheese, etc. Amazing and so soft and fluffy. I also really enjoyed their banana bread (insanely moist) and egg and ham cup. Prices are reasonable (croissants are less than $5) and service is fast despite the line out the door. Very high quality stuff and worth the drive if you are coming from out of the area. You won't be disappointed. I wouldn't be surprised if this place continues to get more popular. We finally made it on a Saturday in the early afternoon after doing errands around the area. We made it around 12:30/1? There was still a long line that was almost out the door inside. Almost everything was out! It was the bare essentials of what was left. No more fun items to try, but still grateful that there was something to try. We ordered her favorite, chocolate croissant, brown butter almond cake, and a chocolate chip cookie. Everything was moist, soft and delicious! We can't wait to try to make it in the am at opening next time to try their fun items! They even have repacked cookies and jar jams for sale on the shelves. I enjoyed my experience at Moonbelly. I arrived 5 minutes after they open and there was already a line. It moved fast and the people were friendly while taking your order. The pastries itself was pretty good! I got the tomato feta pastry, the cheddar broccoli with chili flakes pastry, strawberry blueberry peanut butter pastry, the cardamom bun and the chocolate croissant. My favorites were the cardamom bun which had a nice flakiness to it and had the perfect amount of cardamom flavor on top. The pastries with feeling I think would have been better if warmed up but I did not as I was too excited to try them. My brother did feel like strawberry blueberry pastry was a little burnt around the edges so it was not his favorite but he did like the filling. You haven't lived if you've never started your Saturday morning with a walk to Moonbelly bakery to get a garlic bun and hear live Bluegrass music!! No, I'm not kidding. Live Bluegrass music at 8 AM. This is what life should be like! I only found this spot because I was nearby and looking for a bite to eat. I heard that there was usually a line out the door and I must've had good timing because there was only about five people in front of me and I was able to walk right in and just have a short wait in line. I grabbed the chocolate banana bread, a garlic bun, a potato and crème fraîche, savory pastry, and an egg and ham pastry. Definitely been on a big banana bread kick lately and this one did not disappoint. Tons of chocolate chips! The garlic bun was by far my absolute favorite. It was crispy and at the same time so buttery like a croissant, and the garlic flavor was amazing. Not overpowering not that spicy garlic taste when a recipe overdoes it, just perfect garlic, butter, crisp and light. Absolute heaven. I was a little sad that I was there alone and no one to share it with so I'm sharing with all of you today... you absolutely have to try this spot Lots of little items for purchase on the shelf to some handmade pottery, hand, carved salad, tongs, and even print of the bakery. Ever since my best friend moved to Sac, she's wanted us to come to Moonbelly. On my most recent trip to see her, we finally made it happen! So, expect a line lol! Cause we arrived in the morning on a weekend and there was one out the door. The line moves somewhat fast, though, but keep in mind that things sell out fast! Service was all smiles and efficient. Once you're inside, peruse the bakery case, order, pay, and be on your way! They have some picnic tables outside, or you can take it to go. We chose to take ours to go. My best friend got a few pastries, and I enjoyed the Cardamom Bun and the Salty Sesame Croissant. The bun was super cardamom-forward, which I enjoyed, and I loved the savory nuttiness. Both pastries were flaky, buttery, and so soft. I enjoyed sampling my best friends pastries as well! I'm not too familiar with the bakery scene in Sac, but I do enjoy Moonbelly Bakery and would love to come back. The bakery is off Folsom Blvd. with free parking in their lot out front! Moonbelly is one of my absolute favorite bakeries in the area. They're only open Friday through Sunday and they have different items available throughout the day. I suggest going right at opening for the best variety of breakfast items, and the best chance to get your favorites, however they do start serving sandwiches and some other items later in the day (Everything goes quickly though). They have a great variety of fresh baked items, including sweet and savory options. They have whole loaves of bread, cookies, croissants, rolls, and more. They also have items on the shelves like jars of jam, cookies, ceramics, candles, and pickled goods. My favorite item here is the garlic bun ($4.20). They're so flaky and delicious, with the perfect amount of savory garlic flavor. The chocolate chip shortbread cookies ($3.25) are in my top list as well, with just the right amount of sweetness, they go perfectly with tea or a cup of coffee. The Flourless Chocolate Cookies ($3.50) is unreal, so gooey and indulgent. Those are most of the regular items we try to get, but everything here is wonderful, and it's worth trying any new-to-you item you see. They also have coffee, hot chocolate, cold brew and a few other drink options and they're always so good. I ordered cold brew on my last visit and it was SO GOOD! The team here is so kind and they work super hard to get people through the line. They're always happy to answer questions and if the food doesn't put you in a good mood their cheerful smiles will. There's an outdoor area where you can enjoy your items right away, and they do have a parking lot, but finding parking can be tricky when they're busy. read more

Every time I am in the area I love coming here because they have really great pastry selection here. They are hands down the best Patisserie shop in Sacramento for sure. . I love coming here for their traditional croissant and they also have other ones like Savory ham and cheese and even a galette too with berries. They have a wide variety of seasonal selections to your classic loaf of bread and sandwiches too. . They are also serving some coffee from your latte to your traditional espresso over ice and americanos. They even have lemonade too if you looking for something refreshing. . The inside is quite small with no seating but the line is always quick. They have an outdoor seating with benches so if you like to enjoy it there they have that for you. This place is currently my favorite bakery in Sac. One of the best banana bread I had. It's soft, moist, chunks of chocolate and turns out perfectly every single time I get it. I also had the cinnamon bun which was evenly coated with cinnamon sugar, very soft and fluffy in the inside. Was looking for a new bakery spot to try in SAC and stumbled upon this gem. You walk in and immediate get hit with a wonderful aroma of baked goods and spices. So many savory choices to pick from, we got the following: PBJ (for you PB lovers, must get), garlic roll (if you love garlic also must get, a little oily. This is my third time at this bakery and I got the ham and cheese melt, chocolate chip shortbread, and cinnamon tiles. For the price I'm disappointed as the ham and cheese melt could not be reheated after I asked and the cinnamon tiles tasted stale. Just went here for the first time. The line was out the door and down the side of the next building, but it went pretty fast. Moonbelly Bakery was fantastic! It has been on my "to visit" list for a while and I finally made it over there this past weekend. I saw some people lined up outside and wasn't sure if it was just for dining in or not, but it turns out - you need to line up regardless if you're eating there or taking it to go to. It's quite a small space. The line moves pretty quickly though. Parking is really tight. I got lucky and pulled in just as someone was leaving, but I also drive a Mommy SUV so it was a squeeze getting in and out. As for the pastries - yum! I took home 2 flourless chocolate cookies, a pear cream cheese tart, a chocolate croissant, and an almond something or other cake. I've tried most by now, but we still have the cake and a cookie left (my daughter wants it). The cookie is AMAZING - I will be back for those for sure! They're so rich and decadent, not too thick, a little chewy, not crispy, not too soft; they're perfection. This bakery was very good. The moment you walk in it smells delightful. They have very limited hours. The bakery is not very big just enough room for a few people to order, there's no seating in the inside but they do have patio space. I the pastries were so good. We tried the ham and cheese sandwich (similar to a croquet Monsieur), rhubarb & strawberry galette, cinnamon morning bun, lemon poppyseed morning bun, and a strawberry and peanut butter croissant. All of them were excellent. The lemon poppyseed morning bun had a lot of poppyseeds and you are taking whole bites of poppyseed. So if you are not a fan of poppyseed you will most likely not enjoy that as much. It's also not too lemony so even if you don't like lemon, you can still like it. The strawberry peanutbutter croissant thing also did not have too much peanut butter, it was the perfect hint. I was scared there wasn't going to be much variety to choose from left considering the time we came, but to my surprise they still did have a lot! I've been wanting to try this place as the photos of their croissants look absolutely stunning. I came and got a chocolate croissant which I will break down below: -nice and flaky shell -soft buttery on the inside -great chocolate to croissant ratio (this one most places mess up on, but you really do get chocolate in every bite) -fresh and warm upon order (i think they just had a new batch come out, but I wouldn't doubt that they'll heat up yours if requested) The ambiance of the place was very cozy. You have pottery, cookies, and sauces for sale on the wall across the cash register and a bucket with local flowers to choose from at the front by the cash register. Service was quick and kind and the prices were fairly reasonable. $4.50 for a hefty chocolate croissant is typical nowadays.
