This was our first time trying this spot. Super hole in the wall but delicious food and friendly service!! The moment we walked in, the smell assured us they knew what they were doing. We will definitely be back!!

Oh my! We picked up our son late from the airport and tried this place nearby - well she didn't have much left but told us she would give us what she could - she managed t oget together some baby back ribs, jack daniel ribs, smoked links, corn bread muffins, macaroni salad, and green beans with bacon - it was a small feast! We were so happy with what she had left! We need to go back soon to try the other items. Could not be happier with this find! Can play games while you wait and listen to Hip Hop! Best!

i got the 20 dollaholla meal and mannn . it was smacking. shout to the women that attended me chef may. very sweet and thoughtful service. best ribs in the bay. highly recommend for ribs

Mae, Mae, Mae.....wow she is not just a beautiful person inside and out, but her food is phenomenal! I have not gotten so messy in a while as I want every morsel of her food and it's just that good. The flavors are just so yummy. I found Mae's BBQ restaurant through Yelp as I saw there were halal options. I called Mae to confirm and she said that the halal options sell out fast. I came the next day and everything was sold out, halal wise. Mae said that she would make me my own halal, virgin batch without alcohol the next day. Well, she did just that and the food was incredible. Mae made me halal, virgin beef ribs and hot links. My sides were garlic rice and beans. My husband, son and I devoured her food and are going to be regulars at Mae's. If you want delicious food from a kind hearted person that feels like home then Hip Hop BBQ Shack is the place to go!

Come for: the mac and cheese and the brisket! Chef May. Know that: they have a little parking lot but parking on El Camino is easier. There is going to be a ~20-30 min wait between ordering and eating - enjoy the games. A hidden gem! Hip hop BBQ shack is both an homage to hip hop history and to Chef May's culinary lineage. When you walk in, you'll be greeted by classic rap album decor, a bunch of games at each table, and the pit master herself. Ordering is simple enough, read off the written board that can change and order by the meat (they don't do combo plates). I ordered the beef ribs, brisket, collard greens, and the honey rolls. Everything was good but the star of the show was the brisket. Flavorful, tender and just the right amount of fatty. The sausages and beef rib were good too, though part of the beef rib was still a bit tough. The mac and cheese is definitely not your kraft version and you should get it. Collard greens and honey rolls helped give a little flavor break from all the bbq. I should note, our bbq tray had 3 different kinds of bbq/hot sauces drizzled over it and they are all delicious. Let her know if you don't want heat. Chef May also makes an effort to support local community artists and businesses so let her know if you have a collab idea. Come eat some delicious bbq and support a local establishment!

Y'all, this place is such a hidden gem! Hands-down, best barbecue I've had in the Bay Area! Forget Everett & Jones, forget Capelo's. If you want bona fide southern flavor, this place is IT. I'm a former Texan that can happily say I have finally found my new favorite place. I was a dummy and came here on 4th of July without pre-ordering. There was a bit of a wait because people were ahead of me waiting for large catering orders and the chef was a one woman show. She had to bounce between taking orders and cooking. I didn't mind waiting though. There was a working vintage Pac Man arcade game, mini basketball free throw machine for 2 players, a tiny billiards table and board games to keep you entertained. My husband and I were busy playing with everything. Hip Hip Bbq Shack has such a homey and warm ambience that harks to family kitchens that invites patrons to interact like neighbors. The gentleman I was talking to gushed excitedly that he was especially looking forward to the Louisiana red beans and rice. It unfortunately sold out so I didn't get to try any. I ordered brisket, rib tips, collard greens with ham, and honey buttered cornbread. The brisket was a beautiful perfection of flavorful melt-in your mouth meat topped with a barbecue sauce with mustard. Ribs had a light crusting of different herbs and sauce. Rib tips were small sections of meaty flavor bombs. Cornbread was soooo freaking good--my husband kept saying it was the best cornbread ever. I loved that the cornbread had a light texture, was moist but not wet from the honey butter, and had just a touch of sweetness. How did the chef achieve this?! I'm already dreaming of coming back to try burnt ends, pulled pork, gumbo and the chef's other specialties. I cannot recommend this place enough--chef's food is so good that people bring it to their parties. Some pointers: She is occasionally open for lunch time on days that she has large catering orders. Chef updates her business hours on Yelp daily to reflect when she'll be in. She also takes phone in orders ahead of time and can schedule pick up times. If you miss your pick up time, you'll have to wait a bit while she prepares your order fresh. Good barbecue is not made in minutes after all, it takes love and time.

Fried chicken coleslaw tacos - run ‍ and get you some. Wait, call to make sure they are making tacos that night. We went on a Tuesday.

We ordered one bbq plate to share and two fried chicken coleslaw tacos. The BBQ ribs were amazing. We loved that you could actually taste the "real" smoked wood, making the meat - smokey, tangy, sweet, and so tender. The honey cornbread was heavy and dense, like it's cooked with butter and cream. The crunchy of the friend chicken and the savory of the coleslaw on the flour tortilla was a delightful treat. FYI - be prepared to wait. The service is good and sometimes depends on the line a little slow. But understand perfection can not be rushed. Ring the bell twice. Sometime the cooks don't hear the first time you push the bell for service. This is a take out restaurant with outdoor dining with all sort of board games to play during your wait. We paid UNO, I bet my husband ... Good food and good games.

This is what real Chinese BBQ skewers looks like. The kind of place that doesn't need to impress you with aesthetics because the food already knows what it's doing. Family-owned, family-run. The staff is the family. And you feel it immediately, like you've stepped into a small neighborhood restaurant somewhere between Hong Kong and mainland China. There's a warmth here that can't be manufactured. The menu is simple, but every bite takes you back. From the beer selection to the grilled oysters to the BBQ itself... it's all honest, soulful, and unapologetically authentic. The kind of food that reminds you why street-side spots and humble kitchens often outshine overpriced "modern" versions trying too hard to be something they're not. And let's talk value. For the price? You absolutely cannot beat this place. Other spots charge more, dress it up, and somehow deliver less. Here, the quality is front and center... smoky, savory, deeply satisfying. This isn't a restaurant chasing trends. It's a place preserving something real. And honestly? That's rare.

"Great hole-in-the-wall Mexican near SFO airport"…read more Came here for dinner at 6pm on a Monday night, based on good Yelp reviews. The place is unassuming-- has a thin stretch of outdoor seating and a handful of tables inside. Not super bright in lighting, and a TV inside was showing a baseball game. Seemed like a lot of the business was takeout, as people would come, hover, get food, and leave. I was GOING to order the fish tacos or a fish quesadilla, but I was swayed by the picture of a breaded fish plate special. My son got the carne asada quesadilla, and others at the table got a veggie burrito and a chicken bowl. Food came out pretty quick-- maybe around or just over 10 minutes (the fish plate and veggie burrito came out slightly after the other two). I was very impressed that the fish plate looked even BETTER than the photo (see photos of both). The fish was HUGE. There was a generous helping of guacamole, lots of fresh avocado slides, some onion and cabbage, etc. There was a nice bed of lettuce on the side with sour cream over it, and the rice & beans (covered with a thin layer of cheese) on another side. The fish plate was just delicious. The batter wasn't overpowering or too heavy, and the fish was excellent inside (and very flat). I really liked the sauce in a little cup on the fish, or having it with avocado or guacamole, or even straight. The rice and beans were yummy too. Such a great dish, and it was under $20 before tax and tip. My dining companions all liked their food, though my son said the carne asada meat was "just good" (he had a bite of the chicken and said that was better). The person at the register was friendly. And as mentioned, the prices were very reasonable. I'd happily eat here again if in the area. Great portion size, great quality, good value, etc. Enjoy!

As it is a yakitori place, we also ordered some skewers: Akaushi beef (salt/pepper and spicy), the pork belly, the beef tongue, chicken thigh and saba. Kiddo had his usual Tonkatsu ramen. Everything was delicious! I really enjoyed the charcoal taste to everything! And the kiddo gave two thumbs up for his ramen... and as we looked around the other rooms, we noted everyone had a ramen bowl, so that was definitely a big win. Service was attentive. The items do come out as they are prepared, so the meal can be a staggered wait on times/items, which I don't mind. I only give 4/5 stars because while the service was attentive when it came to removing plates, nobody bothered to come check on us or instructed which skewers would pair best with the condiments on the table - even if it was just spicy, salt, and pepper. I have only frequented this location maybe 3x's and wife 3x's separately bringing her friends for their first try. The chicken itself in consistent, but the FRIES are not. bb.q is a franchise and it was my understanding all franchisees were to adhere to corporate guidelines for consistency. I looked into this and my assumption was correct, that all franchisees need to adhere with what corporate hands down. As for the San Bruno location it's apparent they may not be adhering to guidelines regarding the type of fries they should be using. Back when they first opened in Oct/Nov 2024 they were using the correct fries, but somewhere down the road they changed them. When I first noticed the change I mentioned it to whoever was in charge and their response then was they had run out of the coated fries and were using a different type as a substitute. My sister-in-law who frequents the Apple Park location (nearly every two weeks) with us, went to the San Bruno location with her daughter and came back complaining; the fries weren't the same and although the chicken was cooked perfectly, it didn't have sufficient sauce. I said regarding the fries, "really? they told me they were out last week and had to substituted it for another. I would have thought they would have resolved it by the next order." A couple weeks later my wife who can't help talking about how good bb.q chicken is, brought one of her friends to the San Bruno location due to the shorter distance. Naturally my wife was deeply disappointed because the fries are what she bragged about most because they pair so well and really compliment the chicken. Two weeks later I had a craving for bb.q and stopped by the San Bruno location also due to distance and ordered the Lunch Special (my definite go to!!). The chicken was great as ever, but again, the fries were not the same. I asked the person in charge after repeated visits the fries are still not as before. I was then told they were no longer using the coated fries. So, unless corporate gets involved to make a change, I will no longer frequent nor recommend the San Bruno location. It appears to me the franchisee wants to cut back on cost at the expense of the brand image. Hopefully someone at corporate investigates and makes the necessary change. As a customer who has found consistency in Las Vegas, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Hawaii, why not San Bruno? The staff at San Bruno is still very nice and the chicken consistent. Again, my only complaint is the fries that have been substituted for the real McCoy.

Grill and Tofu House is an excellent, family run establishment that serves up delicious food. The space is very nice and the service is very friendly. I ordered a Dolsot bibimbop because I love food that comes to your table and it's still cooking! I also love that your entree is served with several Banchan (appetizer) dishes. One thing I love about any dining experience is getting a lot of different flavors and textures in one meal. The banchan here had seven different dishes! The Dolsot Bibimbap was a hit! Crispy rice, vegetables, beef and a fried egg on top. Plus, some gochujang sauce to go on it! So yummy! The tofu stone pot is delicious with quite a lot of tofu. The grilled chicken is so-so. The stir-fried glass noodle dish is good. Note there is no free parking and you'll have to pay for parking on the street.
