Donating here is great. The staff are always friendly and they give coupons with every drop off. The prices here are ridiculous for a so-called thrift store. The only time to come is when the deals are going on and you have a coupon. I'm sorry to say that the days of uncovering a hidden gem for a steal of a price are gone and the other local thrift stores are not much better. These places have grown wiser to the resell market and want to make sure the prices are comparable with eBay and the like. I just drop things off and don't go in. read more

As many have said before me, like most thrift stores the biggest issue is pricing. This store is always well stocked and even if I can't find anything I enjoy the hunt but some of it is so price gouged it's criminal for getting these things for free. I'd say make sure you go on Monday's for 50% or Tuesdays for 30% if you're a senior but otherwise bring donations for 20% coupons if you really have an inkling to go. I think this is one of the best thrift stores in the area regardless so I'd recommend it just don't expect an amazing deal they are few and far between. read more

The employees thank me for my donation which is very nice. As far as shopping here, there are certain days that make the outlandish prices more appealing. I really like savers , there are a lot of items that get a second life. That's one thing I enjoy , another thing is the excellent front end management , they are always very attentive and kind , several employees are exemplary, one In particular stands out though, her name is Jackie. We donate a lot of clothes, household items and furniture to Savers. The people who work there are good people. I've noticed how organized the inside is. It's a great place to find random bargains or to donate to. Overall, Savers is a nice place with nice employees who are helpful. read more

I love Savers! If you are there at the right time, you never know what kind of treasure you may walk out with. The thing I don't like about any of these donation stores is the inconsiderate parents that let their kids just tear into items, be it toys or anything else in a box that looks interesting. I shouldn't just say the kids. I've seen plenty of adults do the same thing. They will rip open boxes and pull parts out and either stuff items back into the box or just set it on a shelf next to the box. Very rude. I have seen plenty of potentially expensive items ruined because of people doing this. Anyway, I go to a lot of these types of stores just about everywhere we travel and Savers is by far the most organized and cleanest store we patronize. I highly recommend stopping in. I stopped in to check this place out. Shocked at the prices - too high for donated items. Found one item had a broken zipper with teeth missing in the zipper. You would have to replace the zipper and it was clearly broken. So $19.99 for a name brand sweatshirt with obvious damage! For that price you could just pay for a new one with a working zipper. SAVERS is out and out stealing from those who shop there. They take freely donated items price them at Collectors pricing ( NOT WASHED filthy) . When a customer returns their purchase due to them failing in the worse way possible. The management (Chris in both instances) says "to bad not my problem its yours". No store credit or refund you bought it its yours. Their 50% off Monday does nothing but bring their prices down to the price of other resale stores. I don't believe anyone should donate to SAVERS or shop them. They get everything free and charge collectors pricing NOT RESALE PRICING.. Look at all the good AMVETS do with items that are being donated. They sell them and use the funds to support our veterans in need. Then we have a the SALVATION ARMY no one in the SALVATION Army makes more than a living wage.. Their top executives DO NOT make 6 figure salaries. All of the SALVATION ARMY DONATIONS funds are RETURNED to the COMMUNITIES to assist the poor and needy. SPARROWS NEST use they're funds to help in the community as well. I remember a while back I was told they help women of domestic violence. DOUBLE TAKE sells items on consignment for owners wanting to sell their items and make back money spent buying them. LAST NOT the LEAST. WINGS they sell donated items to care for pets that are rescued, abandoned or sick pets needing care and adoption. The first experience shared was my 2nd time of attempting to communicate with this manager Chris. Below are the items I attempted to return same day bought he said No and No credit. The 1st time I bought several crystal glasses. One was absolutely chipped and had a tag half pulled off that said as is. Now I am blind in one eye so I don't nessicarily see everything.. While this manager was ringing up the set of goblets my friend pointed out every glass was chipped very fine chips. I pointed this out to him a 2nd time after my friend pointed it out to him. I asked to reverse the charges he refused said my card was already complete I requested he cancel the sale. Once again he said NO. I left and returned the glasses the next Monday his bosses credited the glasses. When we got the glasses home every glass had had stickers on the base saying as is(PULLED OFF). This is what I call true theft. Below are the pictures from the 2nd time when the items bought had damage and complications. One of my favorite places to shop. You never know what you will find. However it used to be better. Prices have gone up, they removed the dressing rooms, and locked the bathroom. Its almost impossible to find a real treasure now, because there are so many Mercari and Ebay vultures hanging out at the sorting room door. Management should shoo them away. read more

2 out of 5 visits, I find what I'm looking for, which is great considering it's a thrift store. My problem is with the staff/corporate policies. 1) I can tell they're used to shoplifters. I really don't appreciate giving my money to a company that doesn't trust me in their store. I can't even use the bathroom without 'asking'; although I had been asking an employee to watch my cart while I used bathroom because they often emptied my cart in the 3mins I was in the loo (impressive, I know) So this doesn't affect me much 2) Staff isn't friendly. I get it. You're working at a thrift store, but I still would like a smile rather than looming eyes. Maybe they're upset at the fact of savers corporate taking the hit of expected shoplifting over the cost of hiring employees to ring people. 3) This is a long story. Short and skinny, dont depend on the coupons you receive if you're on a budget. While shopping for items that qualified with my 20% off coupon, I get a call from my kids' school and need to go pick him up. I'd have been at the store for 2 hours at this point. Determined to get the most of my hard earned coupon, I explain to the man to register my situation. "Can I please leave my cart here? I have a 20% coupon that's good for ONE purchase, BUT I have an emergency and will be back in 1 hour. " The gentleman says, "Yes, no problem. I'll take your name and leave a note on the cart so nobody moves it. " PERFECT, I think. I love Savers, I think to myself. An hour and 5 minutes later, I return to my cart and wave to the man, gesturing my appreciation for his help and understanding. 2 hours later, I go to checkout, and purposely scan my coupon first...you know, to ensure I don't forget it (self checkout because they can't trust you in their public bathroom, but, yet trust you to ring yourself ) . As the line behind me gets longer, I rush (again, pressure on ME from fellow shoppers and the same employee managing the line of shoppers to checkout). I completed my purchase. As I'm bagging my items with a fellow shopper already up to the register I used, doing the math in my head, I realize the coupon didn't register. I ask the employee who's managing the line to help me make sense of this, showing him the coupon and receipt. He looks at the receipt then the coupon and says "the coupon has been scanned" as he proceeds to help me bag my purchase (because there's another customer standing 1 foot beside us waiting to checkout at the register I'm still using). I look at him blankly and say, "Yes, I scanned it, but it didn't apply to my purchase." At this point, all my items are bagged, and he is walking me out the checkout isle towards the exit. He says again, "The coupon can not be used twice." My expression was sympathetic, I figured the older man didn't understand my issue, as I repeated, "Yes, I scanned the coupon and rang all my items. None of the items on my receipt are discounted. How can I get the 20% off?" His expression wasn't anger...more like, I have a job to do, I helped you now please help me and leave as he repeated "there's nothing I can do because the coupon has been scanned" I say, "Sir, I'm not trying to argue, especially over $20.00, but I need to know why I've just spent all day expecting to use a coupon that didn't register." Honestly, I was about to cry...not sure why... Maybe it was the other shoppers staring at me. Maybe it was the 5 hours I'd spent in a thrift store to use a stupid 20% coupon. I felt so stupid, duped, and exhausted. Not wanting to be THAT woman....I left without another word I learned two months later from a cashier that was looming over my shoulder at checkout that you must scan the coupon AFTER all items are scanned, NOT before;she had been standing there staring at me, so I asked her how to use the coupon. She was VERY excited to tell me what to do and oddly enough, even more happy to learn, I didn't know how to use thrift store coupons. I'm glad I could make her feel important and smart read more

We are regular Savers shoppers. Sometimes you can find some really neat things, and sometimes you can get some good deals, especially on a sales day. The store is usually well organized and has a good selection of items. However, there is not always consistency in pricing. Sometimes I can find two or three or five of the same item, all listed at different prices... Like how is that fair? If I want to buy all of them, they should offer each one for the lowest listed price. Otherwise, it's feels like a scam. Some items can be grossly overpriced... I tend to pass over them, and leave it for someone else. I don't need anything there that badly that I am gonna pay exhorbently high prices, especially considering it is pre-owned. Sometimes managers or workers can be a bit rude, depending on the day and how busy it is. I get that they are moving lots of merchandise, and that some customers can be just as rude, but geez, be the better person and don't take out your frustrations on the next batch of customers coming through. I've worked in retail, and you just have to let that kind of stuff roll off you... or else you are in the wrong line of work, and customer service is not your forte. I have donated to the store many times too. My grandfather was labeled as having epilepsy, so it is a good cause. It is interesting to see how things I have donated get priced. One man's trash is another's treasure. I do appreciate that the store tends to be cleaner and more organized than other resale shops, which makes it easy to pop in and look for something specific. My special needs son absolutely loves going to Savers, and it is his highlight of the week to get a special find like a toy or a book he likes. But he also likes to say hi to all the other customers and the staff. So we have a deal with him that if he has good behavior all week, then once a week we will take him to shop there. He likes Savers better than any other store there is! Over the years, I have bought so many of his clothes there, as he can be tough on clothes, and it saves some money to buy used when he goes through a lot of them as he grows. They used to have dressing rooms, but I'm kinda sad they don't anymore, because with clothes, different brands fit differently even if listed as the same size. But as long as they will let you return something that doesn't fit (with receipt of course), it's still a good place to get clothes. There are almost always new treasures to be found at Savers, which is what keeps us returning. read more

I live right behind and on the side of savers. I was walking to the gas station up on 14. Was called white power twice from a donation worker. He was a young Hispanic wearing sunglasses, he had a scar on his right check about an inch. The first time I walked on my way, the second time I was minding my own business walking through the allyway and called it again told him to say it just one more time. I kept walking. The main issue is the pricing. If you don't think so, see for yourself. Normally these thrift store chains will hike up prices for that one particular item they know is worth way more, but this store does this for their entire inventory. I admit, they have good stuff. It's that if you buy things here, you'll leave feeling like they took a big chunk out of your bank rather than feeling like you got a huge bang for your buck (for a thrift store). This place is so overpriced, the employees are rude, and the quality of items is lacking. The old lady who works in front seemed extremely annoyed when you asked to see something behind the counter. For example, we were interested in a couple jerseys that were hanging up behind the jewelry counter. They had a used Walter Peyton jersey priced at $75!! Are you kidding me? I can get one on eBay for $40. There was also a vintage Michael Jordan #45 jersey. They had it priced at $30, which would've been slightly reasonable.... but the tag on the bottom front was cut off. I asked her if she could give us a discount since it has that flaw, but she stated that is was "priced accordingly".....yeah okay. I can also get one of those on eBay in great condition for $40. So sad. I used to donate to and shop Savers often. The employees inside the store are very nice and helpful. You can score some great deals. However, recently, we have been cleaning out our home to get ready to move so I have been donating a lot of items. (Nice Items, Not Junk) Each time I arrive, the guy just grabs the stuff from me, never speaks, never says hello or thank you, and just acts completely disgusted that people are donating items. It is not just me, I see him treating everyone else in a similar manner. I also had several breakable items that I donated and let him know that the items were fragile, I would see him just throw them in a pile anyway.....Seriously? We've ALWAYS had an excellent experience at the Crystal Lake Savers --whether dropping off donations or browsing/purchasing items. Yes, some aisles can be a jumbled mess at times...but I attribute that more to inconsiderate shoppers who tear thru things or place them wherever they want when they decide they don't want that item. All staff that we've been in contact with on the sales floor, registers or donation door have been cheerful, courteous and helpful and that is a key component in making me return often. The merchandise is varied and well-organized and displayed. I think pricing is reasonable, and besides the Epilepsy Foundation benefits from your donations/purchases. Definitely the 50% off everything on Mondays is a HUGE draw! I wholeheartedly support this great mission and encourage others to also do so! read more

Overpriced (as people have mentioned), but the store has discount days and the employees give coupons for bringing stuff in; so it probably evens out in the end. I was in there for the annual "Labor Day' sale where most items are 50% off. The store is extremely disorganized and they never have enough cashiers on staff. I was told at the register that plastic bags cost $0.99 each. Not the reusable bags, but the brownish plastic ones. What? That must be a new policy because I didn't know Savers had this in place. I go thrifting for my 1 year old son just because he goes through clothes so fast and to save some money. The pictures don't do it justice- it's really big for a second hand store! But they have some name brand clothes like Nike- that are way overpriced for just a baby shirt. $6.99 .... but there's other decently priced stuff for $1.79 that I get. Just nothing name brand. Clothes are sorted by size- so convenient! Also a library closed and donated all their books- and it's buy 4 get the 5th free! I came here just for that! And mondays are half off! read more

Generally speaking I like Savers. Nice bright store, clean. Today it seemed that their tchotchkes aka knick knacks were sparse. Just love that word. It is so fun to say (Ch ahch keys). Three people came in and like this large rooster knick knack. Not my taste but had it been, I might have paid $10 or $12 top. It was $15. I think they would have bought it had it been cheaper. For the most, I buy things at Savers that I do not need. For instance, I may have enough scarves. If I see one I like at a cheap price, I have to get it and throw a different thrift store scarf out. I have been told I like change. I ended up getting 2 DVD's @ 2.99 each, 1 CD @ 99 cents and 1 book at $2 I think. On some things their prices are higher than Goodwill or Salvation Army. Where do i Begin? Mondays is 50% and the only reason I shop here. Everything is overpriced!!! I can find better (and cleaner) items at Dollar Tree , which luckily happens to be next door! Most of the item are dusty and gross. And when you actually find something at a reasonable price, it's broken! Next, the staff is extremely rude. It's unbelievable! My mom decided to pay for her items that totaled up to $6.42 with quarters (She felt she was actually helping since cashiers are always in need of change), BUT instead, The rude old man cashier rolled his eyes when he saw the coins. Unprofessional and extremely rude. Do you want me to pay with a 100 dollar bill or with quarters? This isn't Nordstrom honey, it's Savers....
