On December 26, I paid a $125 estimate fee and was quoted $4,500 to replace a pump and tank and redo plumbing. I was told the $125 would be credited if we moved forward. When the work was done, they determined the tank did not need to be replaced, yet I was still charged the full $4,500 and the estimate fee was not deducted. Shortly after installation, the pump was not functioning properly. When I asked them to return to fix it, they attempted to sell me a whole-house filtration system instead of addressing the issue. I declined. They later blamed our problems on an issue with the well and claimed they could not fix it. I hired a well contractor who resolved the problem in 30 minutes without touching the well, leading me to believe there was never an issue with the well. I requested an itemized invoice, which did not align with the work performed. Based on labor and materials, the job appears significantly overpriced (almost double). I formally requested a partial refund on January 12 and followed up multiple times, most recently on February 6, and have received no response. I am incredibly disappointed with the lack of response and professionalism. I've also since been informed that they were never even licensed to have done the work they performed. I am sharing my experience in hopes that it can save someone else the headache and loss of money.

(Exact same phone number and Ed is still in charge) My mom passed away shortly after she contracted with Ed, we recently did an audit of some of her building expenses. We found two bills, 9/21/05 and 9/23/05 BOTH paid in full. Two of the line items were exactly for the same repair/re[placement. A Gerber laundry room faucet ($465) and $390. Rather expensive for a $35/faucet. But charged and paid for TWICE. There is ONLY 1 laundry room in the building. I recently contacted Ed directly, sending him the copies of the posted paid invoices. Asking him about the duplicate charge and to refund the smaller of the two amounts. He refused. Granted it has been many years, but the audit was just conducted and the discrepancy found. Ed took advantage of a dying senior citizen and now refuses to correct his mistake. I'm using the term mistake, only because I find it difficult to think that his business would take advantage of a female senior citizen who died of cancer shortly after he performed these services.

Context: our building has had several main line backups over the years and we started seeing signs it might happen again (water gurgling, toilet water acting strange, etc.). So, to be proactive we contacted AA Plumber to clear and scope the line. A plumber came, hydro jetted and used a borescope to verify the line is clear. Well just a day or 2 later the toilets were gurgling and foul odors were coming up through the shower drains. So, I contacted AA and they assured us it was most likely a venting issue and is no immediate concern. Well a few days later the sewage backed up so we did end up having to call an emergency plumber. They (the emergency plumbers) were shocked that AA hydro jetted when there was no cleanout (jetting from a toilet access can cause water to flood back into the unit) also AA did not use a plumbing camera just a 9ft sink drain borescope so there was no way they verified the line was clear. Anyways the emergency plumbers believed AA either just moved the blockage down the pipe or never actually cleared the line all the way to the city sewage line (I certainly did not see them run more than a couple feet of line). After the line was cleared by the emergency plumbers (which was a premium and what I was trying to avoid in the first place by contacting AA) I asked them for some form of refund due to incomplete/unsatisfactory service but they refused to offer any reimbursement. I don't know if they are licensed plumbers and are obviously not using the proper equipment to do a quality job. I would advise anyone avoid these folks if you are looking for a plumber in Chicago, there are plenty of other options out there to choose from so find someone else.

I live in a newly constructed condo, but some of the contractors workmanship was shoddy. After only…read more6 months, the garbage disposal began leaking due to being installed improperly. My sister called Good Plumbing after seeing some favorable recommendations from neighbors on the Nextdoor website. She was told it would be $300 to remove the garbage disposal, reseal it and remount it. Not knowing any better she decided to go ahead with the job and Pete arrived a short time later that very same evening. He said he'd be in the area and could stop by on his way from another job. Pete completed the job effectively, but his customer service left something to be desired. When he was done I asked him if there would be an additional charge in the event he had to come out again. He seemingly took this as a personal attack on his job performance and stated there would be no reason for him to come out again. I attempted again to get my original question answered, but he insisted it wouldn't be necessary. And when it came time to pay for the bill (via CC) he insisted on writing down my sister's full name, address, card number, zip code AND 3 digit security code on the back of the card. We both took issue with this for obvious reasons... it's simply not wise or safe to have that kind of information laying around on paper. Pete said it was GP policy to write down all that information and preceded to show us his clipboard containing a stack of customer receipts. All the receipts contained names, CC numbers, zip codes and security codes. I assume he was attempting to reassure us, but it did the exact opposite. I theorized if his truck was stolen then the thieves would have a field day charging up customer's credit cards. Pete balked at this suggestion stating that he'd never had a customer's information stolen in 35 years. And that previous customer's had charged upwards of 40k for certain jobs. As I said, Pete wasn't winning any customer service awards... Being dismissive of customer concerns isn't exactly the way to build rapport or loyalty. Also, it's 2021...there's no need for any service provider to be taking down customer's information. Not when there are a plethora of payment apps available that safely process payments. My sister plans to cancel her credit card and request a new one once the charge for Good Plumbing is processed. Adding insult to injury, a couple of male friends told me later that we had been severely overcharged for the service provided. One friend said we'd been "raped." Pete replaced the mounting bracket for the disposal which retails for about $20 because he said he didn't like the way our existing one looked. Then he sealed it with plumbers putty that costs about $5 at Home Depot. It maybe took him 15 minutes to do the job. I don't know what the average cost is to fix a leaking garbage disposal, but I do know the Badger model I have retails for $110. So basically, I could've had two new ones for the price we paid. That didn't feel great, but you live and learn. Next time I'll use Task Rabbit and save a few bucks. On a positive note, I appreciated Pete's prompt response... it wasn't an emergency, but the same day service was a plus. We called a few other places and was told it'd be anywhere from a few days to a week for someone to come out. Pete also wore a mask (properly) following Covid protocols. And so far his work has been solid. We haven't had any problems.
