We went on Tasting Tuesday (fixed menu, $85 pp). The food was excellent! Every dish was bursting with flavor. We received a couple amuse bouche before starting the five course meal. It was plenty of food and worth the price (in Seattle, this would have cost at least $120). I loved the balance of local, farm-to-table ingredients infused with Mediterranean flavor. Service was great and we loved the intimate atmosphere. Savory is an excellent gem in Langley and we will certainly return. read more

My wife and I have eaten at this restaurant several times over the past few years. Each time the value of the meal has deteriorated. The atmosphere and the service was great, but the $35 plate of pasta was about half the volume we would typically get at a restaurant, and had about a teaspoon of beef in the Bolognese sauce. The flavor of the pasta was good, but the size was more like an appetizer. We ordered club soda and bitters but they gave us a bottle of Pellegrino and bitters instead for a nine dollar charge. The crispy bread, however, was delicious. This latest experience was a dealbreaker that will stop us from ever visiting again what was once a very nice restaurant. read more

We showed up around 10 min before opening, once the restaurant opened we were told to come back because there were no more tables. Once we returned and were seated - the food was good, but the portions were small. As one would expect with a restaurant like this. Staff was okay. Yes, most would say Savory is a bit spendy but for the superb dining experience, it's so worth it! It' s small plates style menu ranging in the $13-22 range with a few entrees in the $38 range. Mindfully crafted and chef quality dishes with a generous wine list to pair. All we can say is, it was the most delectable and mind-blowingly flavorful farm to table fine dining experience one can find here in this dinky little town. Simple yet elegant with good flavors. Savory is the perfect description. The service and ambiance were spot on. It was so cozy and relaxing.. we sat on cushy armchairs in a tiny tiny restaurant with four tables for two and one other that seats 4 and another that seats snugly 6. We were in what I thought the worst table (smack dab in the middle) but later realized we still felt like we had privacy and couldn't overhear others' convo. I got a pretty nice view of the water and the chef calmly cranking out amazing dishes one by one. Being it was a Friday night, there were multiple couples that came after the table after us sadly to be met with having to be put on a 30-60 minutes call back wait list. There was only the server and chef on duty. No sous chef, no assistants...I think everyone was ok to be patient and wait. I was secretly happy they care so much about offering quality food and service. The artichoke and kebabs were delish but our favs were the carrots and the salmon. Expertly cooked to PERFECTION. Will leave it at that. You have to just experience for yourselves... it's a take your time and savor finely prepared food and libations..and def not a gorge yourself with large quantity type of a place. They don't take reservations so we decided to dine early. We were seated and given water and a limited selection menu. The server told us the portions were large enough to share. Their portions were bird food size and not enough to share. We had their special salad which was tough as rubber kale salad with a Caesar type dressing. For the main course we ordered their bolognese which was quite flavorful. The bread we ordered was called fluffy bread which was pre buttered but it came with neither extra butter nor oil. Their wine selection was very limited since they were out of most wines. The wines they offered weren't that good. We heard that the restaurant had recently sold. It wasn't the quality of caliber of our experience last year. Such a disappointing experience since last year was so much better. read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon at 4pm with my boyfriend and 2 dogs and we were seated on the patio. I ordered the carbonara and my boyfriend got the black cod. I enjoyed the carbonara but it wasn't as eggy as I would have liked, and I thought the price was a little steep ($28). I also tried the black cod, which was cooked well but I thought could have been a bit more flavorful, and it was also pretty expensive (~$35, don't remember exact amount). My boyfriend however liked it the way it was. The bread was hot and fresh and the butter was soft and perfectly spreadable. Recently, my husband and I were in Langley for the first time and went to Savory for our last dinner on Whidbey Island. We got there right at 4:00, when they opened, which I recommend, because they get busy quickly--for good reason. Our meals were delicious! They were unlike any pork loin or calamari we had eaten. Additionally, the wait staff was amazing! They took our pictures (we were obviously tourists), chatted with us, and we're generally very attentive. We were so impressed with the entire experience and would recommend visiting to anyone visiting Langley. read more

A small portion of mushrooms on toast - $21. A small portion of naan type bread (one small naan cut into 4 quarters) was $13. In less than an hour we were done, feeling like we had eaten starters and still needed a main meal. We had sparkling water and one of us had a single glass of red wine. Came on a Thursday night. Only had to wait about ten minutes. Service was good. We sat in strange oversized chairs that made us feel like tiny people at a huge table. I ordered the short ribs and hubby got the black cod. My hubby thought the cod was perfectly cooked and tasty. My short rib was well cooked but way too sweet for me. It was inedible. Took my wife and sister to dinner after not visiting Savory for about a year. A lot has changed. Portions were very small and expensive. Ordered mushroom lasagna, crab pasta, polenta and braised carrots. Lasagna was cold. Crab portion was small with maybe two tablespoons of crab meat and was $48. Polenta was oily and flavorless as were the carrots. Understand they are under new ownership but will not return unless I hear of improvements. read more

This restaurant just charmed the hell out of my wife and I tonight. The waitstaff were wonderful, maybe too polite, but in a way that really suits the place. We had a delicious meal that started with a garlic spread on crostini, followed by the pappardelle and cassoulet (pictured). The garlic bread with the slow cooked cassoulet was to die for. We finished the night with a Madeira dessert wine by Rare Wine Cellars. The vibe of this place was perfect for the sleepy town of Langley...it would be an overcrowded mess in a more populated place, and here it can hide as a hidden gem for all who venture out this far. We chose this restaurant based on all the great reviews, and we wanted a small, intimate restaurant for the final night of our vacation. We arrived very early to be sure he could get a table because they didn't take reservations and there weren't very many tables. We arrived well before 6 pm and were able to get a table, in fact many tables were empty. We were seated and the water was poured. Then the waitress informed us that they were out of many of the menu items, including all the entrees we were interested in ordering. We were set on the cod, but that had been long gone. How could that be since the restaurant had only been opened a short time? This was a Saturday night. How could they run out? There were no entrees left that had any protein. We asked the waitress how they could run out so early and were were rudely told in a gloating tone that they only had available a small number of each entree. I guess the early bird special at this restaurant is if you get there early enough you might be able to order something before it is gone. We first order an appetizer which was a mushroom pate. I asked if it came with something to spread it on and was told that would be extra. The pate was $17 and was about two tablespoons worth. We order a puff bread and that was good, but $13 for four tiny squares, but was just large enough to spread the two tablespoons of pate. So $30 for that. Not goose liver, but mushroom pate. I'm well aware of entree sizes in good restaurants. I've eaten in many, including some of the better restaurants in NYC, and some with Micheline stars, so I wasn't expecting Olive Garden endless breadsticks, but $30 for that was a ripoff. The entree we first ordered was an unremarkable pasta dish that was just a few bites for $35, and we ordered the only vegetable side dish that was available. We were still very hungry so we ordered the other pasta dish that was supposed to be a Bolognese with grass fed beef. What we got were six little strips of wide pasta with a watery tomato sauce. I couldn't find any beef bits or beef taste. Maybe they used a Vitamix to blend it, but there were no little bits of beef to be seen or tasted. It would have been nice to be offered a little Parmesan cheese, but none was offered. They were probably out, and I'm sure there would have been an additional charge. I really don't know how this restaurant can stay in business. I looked around when new people were seated and could see the disappointment on their faces when they were told of the few menu choices they had. Everything about our experience was a disappointment. I read that the management had changed, so perhaps the good reviews were when the previous owners were in charge. We spent a sizeable amount of money and still left the restaurant very hungry. I would have welcomed an Olive Garden on the walk back to the hotel. Or even a McDonald's. read more

Caesar was well dressed and very tasty and baguette was soft and warm and served with salted butter. For our entrees, my partner ordered the smoked salmon linguine and I ordered the short ribs and mashed potatoes . Both were beautifully plated but my dish fell a bit short of what I was expecting. Short ribs lacked depth and weren't as tender and the mashed potatoes were bland. I added some of the butter which helped a bit. They may have to forcibly remove me from this spot...... We try and come up once every other year or so and they apparently opened just 6 weeks ago. The gentlemen running it were so friendly and welcoming. We sat outside in the sun next to the fire-that-shall-not-be-lit and just had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary. Opening a restaurant is not easy and to get everything just right so soon was a testament to the passion of the owners. So how about the food? In a word, fan-freaking-tastic. We had the salmon with a glaze that clearly contained a schedule one prohibited substance (it was that good) and my wife had a lovely salad. Followed that up with an awesome cheese plate (mimolette for the win!) and garlic bread for two. (Pro-tip for you lovebirds, if you both have garlic breath, no one has garlic breath). We loved the big living room chairs we sat in at our table. The restaurant is intimate with only 6 tables. The waiter was friendly and chill. We ate the mushrooms on toast, charred cauliflower, and coho salmon. Everything was delicious. I was surprised by the ingredient combinations and how well they went together. Unfortunately you won't get a picture of that because it really didn't last long on our table! I was really hoping there could be free refills on the salmon. For dinner we both ordered the special, salmon Louie since it was so hot out. This salad didn't disappoint. The mixed lettuce, tomato, corn,roasted red pepper, pea shoots and so many other yummy things were so fresh and crisp. And again the salmon...delicious! We use to be regulars of the old savory. It was our favorite place on whidbey, and we typically visited at least 3 to 4 times a month. We really want to see the new Savory succeed, but our first experience after they opened was very disappointing. Prices had gone way up and quality, portion sizes and service had gone down. Knowing it was their first few days I promised myself I'd return when they had a chance to settle in. My husband did not think the $150+ meal for two not including alcohol was justified, and didn't want to come back. Almost a year later I convinced him to return with the promise of getting to sit on their beautiful deck on the most gorgeous day of the year so far, 70 and sunny in late April. We arrived about 3 minutes before they opened and were told they weren't sent up yet and we had to wait on the bench outside. We waited and when they opened we requested to sit outside and were told in not particularly polite way that they weren't serving outside that night. Since the deck is the best attribute of the restaurant and helps justify the price point, we chose to move elsewhere. Every other restaurant in Langley with outside seating had it open . Don't think I'm going to be able to convince my husband to give them a third chance. Especially since they've taken the amazing Cesar salad from the old menu away (after promising it would stay) and doubled the price of the crab pasta. We are big supporters of our local restaurants... from orchard kitchen to oystercatcher, to saltwater, Braeburn, Bailey's and Spyhop... but unfortunately Savory, once our most favorite of them all, is no longer on that list... read more

This tiny place is lovely - tucked off of the main road and facing the stunning bay. I highly recommend the squid ink pasta. It was delicious! For an appetizer, go for the white bean spread. Yum! Wonderful service and we were able to have our pups on the deck. We will be back! read more
