We are in a semi so it's hard to find places that's close to the hwy and has room for truck parking. This had both. We were greeted with friendliness and sat down immediately. Our waitress was very good at advising us when we couldn't decide what to get. We started with the bbq chicken wings. They were so good. Fat and juicy and the ranch is homemade. It was delicious. Then we decided to share the 12oz Marbled Ribeye. You get two sides so we shared a side salad. They split it for us. Then we got the loaded baked potato. All of it was so good. The steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked. It's not fancy but it was clean and had a good vibe. I would strongly recommend it. read more

Absolutely phenomenal experience here!! Went to visit the family for the weekend, they took my wife and I to the Craters Of The Moon Park ,( an Idaho must see). On the way back we stopped here for dinner. Hostess was pleasant and our server was extremely nice! She was not only attentive but sold the menu very well. She explained what she liked on the menu and made great recommendations. The restaurant itself was big/ open space. I felt very at home in the restaurant. I ordered the Prime Rib, it was cooked to perfection and came out quick. My wife ordered the ribeye and she enjoyed it as well. We also ordered the Brisket Quesadillas, they were HUGE!! 8 total pieces. 1000% recommend this place to anyone traveling to Mountain Home or traveling thru it. We went for the prime rib but found out they only serve it Friday and Saturday. But we stayed and ordered off the menu. My husband had the pork chop dinner with salad and mashed potatoes. The chops were good but a little too peppery for him. His salad was delicious (he shared it with me) and the gravy on the potatoes was really good. I had the senior portion hamburger steak with sautéed mushrooms and onions, steamed broccoli and the mashed potatoes. Everything was very good. Our server Kelcey was delightful and efficient. Food was good but had a horrible experience with one server, after our food was taken to the table, she did not even once stop by to ask how everything was going, she came to the table only when it was time to pay, she handed me the card terminal with the tip percentages on the screen and I clicked on 0 and she immediately looked upset and didn't say anything to us after that. I always tip everywhere, but she definitely checked on other tables and offered others refills and not to us, so I didn't feel like a tip was earned. read more

Let me first make it clear that I visited the food truck and not the restaurant. I had some sides back at the hotel already so all I got was a rack of ribs. They use a pretty heavy black pepper rub and I think an apple cider/vinegar based mop sauce during the smoking process. The rub and mop sauce together produces an amazingly flavorful and tender rib. Quite possibly, the WORST customer service I've received. My husband and I walked in to get a table for ourselves and the rest of my family for dinner. Saturday evening, around 7:30- not very crowded, decent, but not busy. We greeted the hostess (young, maybe late teens with brassy blonde streaked hair) and asked if we could get a table for 5. She sat us to the left of the restaurant at a table that was adequate size. She sat our menus down, and walked away. As my husband and I approach the table, we come to find straw wrappers, greasy fingerprints, and food all over the table. I went back up there, and the hostess was busy. I approached one of the other waitresses (dark hair, possibly mid-30's with glasses) and asked if we could get reseated to another table because we got placed at a dirty one. Her immediate response was, "How about I just clean this one for ya?" To which I said, "Whatever works." No apologies for either the filth, or the inconvenience. By this point, enough time had passed for me to explain what was happening to my mom and dad. My mom pointed to another table and told the waitress that we were going to sit there instead. At this time, said waitress sarcastically blurts out "Well, she decided for everyone, you're sitting over here." Now comes the time for us to order drinks, and we all order water, minus my mom who had already ordered a coffee. When she brings the waters out, she passes it out to everyone, and when she gets to my husband and I, she literally and FORCIBLY threw down our straws on the table. At this point, my husband had enough of the customer service (well, lack there of), and walked out of the restaurant. Then, she starts taking orders. My brother, dad and mom order, with my mom being the last one. My mom had specific details to ask for over easy eggs, and for pico de gallo on the side. Not a hard or unreasonable request. She's taking quite some time to get the order in the device they use, and she said "sorry, I'm writing a LOT of notes here." She then looks at me, and I said "I'm good." So she then rudely takes the menus off the table and walks away. At this point, I get up and walk away. I have never gotten up and left a restaurant- however, this, was just completely horrific. You'd think customer service would be top tier in a small, homey town like Mountain Home. The service we received was completely uncalled for. Don't get a job in CUSTOMER SERVICE, if you can't provide it, enough said. read more

Savory Layne BBQ is a Veteran Owned food truck in Mountain Home. Owner/Operator Layne Short was active duty military in the USAF for 13 years. He's married and has seven children. In addition to his reputation for great barbecue, Layne gives back to the community. When the schools shut down, there was a gap of several months before the schools were able to make lunches available to students in need. Layne met that need by providing free lunches to all school-aged children. Layne describes his food as a mix between Carolina and Texas style BBQ. He uses a dry rub. The sauces are his own creation. The red one is "Short 'n Sassy," the yellow is "Carolina Spice." I visited in December 2020. I arrived right as Layne was starting to shut down. He was kind enough to put together a Sampler Platter for me with a bit of everything he had left. He also gave me one heck of a deal. I paid $14 for two heavy containers of food. The brisket, pulled pork and wings were excellent! The meat was incredibly tender and had great flavor. I didn't care for the sauces, but that's not an uncommon for me. My favorite of the four sides I tried were the coleslaw and potato salad. The baked beans had a bit too much cumin for my taste. I look forward to returning and trying more of Layne's great food! If you like barbecue, this place is worth the drive. Highly Recommended!!! read more

We were seated very quickly which was great because we were hunger, however everything went down from there. We sat in the booth for more than 10 minutes before we were acknowledged and asked what we would like to drink. It was then more waiting until our order was taken. I asked the waitress what kind of meat was in the mini tacos, she didn't know and so called the cook over who also didn't know. The cook did go chieck what kind of meat was used and let us know several minutes later. Since I didn't want to wait for the meat answer I ordered a Cobb Salad. The menu listed what would be on the salad however there were no avocado's or hard boiled eggs, Once our meals were finally delivered the waitress never returned to ask how things were with the meal unit we were done with our meals. Then it took another 10 minutes to get our bill. My husband order a glass of wine, when it came it was in a champagne glass! Overall a total bust. read more

Ah no - at least with the brisket and potato salad. There was no smoked flavor to the meat which seemed tough and overcooked. The bbq sauce is different and helped but had a ketchup flavor to it. The potato salad lacked seasoning and flavor. The owner got back to me and, as someone who likes to smoke brisket and grill as well, I can understand how the weather can impact the results. I like it when the owner steps up to a critical review so I've upgraded my review to a 3 and I will try again on my next trip to MH. read more

I just had dinner here with my husband and a couple of friends. This place isn't high on our list of places to go for dinning because the service is less than good. We seem to get the newest server. This girl brought our appetizer, but didn't bring small plates, them seemed baffled when we asked for them. We all ordered steaks. 3of the 4 were great, but 1 was overcooked. That person didn't want to say anything. Our server didn't come to the table to often. We had to get someone else's attention to get to go boxes. Sometimes it feels like it's still a food truck and not a dinner house. This place feels like a big open space without any ambiance. I find the food is good but everything else is very lacking. This is a food truck in Mountain Home, Idaho. Really good BBQ. His brisket is tender and delicious. The two sauces we tried are not like anything we have had in Texas, but when you are not in Texas, try the local stuff! There were great. One mustardy one and one red, vinegary one! I had a turkey wrap with added jalapeños. I could only eat half. The other half is for the road(we are on a looong road trip). It was delicious. My hubby had the special- pulled pork sandwich. He loved it, but would have liked pickles and onions on it( he didn't ask). Beans and cole slaw were yummy. The rest of the menu is so interesting, I wish I could have tried some of items, such as the bowls. The only thing better than the food was the friendly veteran who owns this BBQ truck, and his sweet daughter who is helping him. Check them out. read more

Tried this BBQ place today. I gave them 4stars because my friend got the platter and was excited to try the ribs only to be saddened that there were no ribs. Just wish they would have told him when he picked it up. We understand that they can run out but would have been nice to have a head up. That being said the flavor of everything was good. Food was not good! I ordered the bbq sampler and a side of potato salad and Mac and cheese.and the ribs were good but they left the membrane on so when I took a bite it was like biting into plastic! Brisket was dry and chewy and the turkey was very dry also! Pulled pork was dry and mushy and flavorless! Sausage was good. Macaroni cheese Tasted like Albertsons! I'm pretty sure it was not homemade and was frozen and cooked. It wasn't homemade that's for sure! And the potato salad had a bitter taste to it. Me and my wife were very disappointed! As a guy that does bbq and competes in bbq competitions this was very disappointing to me! I even drove around back to take a look at the 2 smokers they had outside! I've been here 3 times and I just haven't had that good experience yet. I gave 3 stars because I it seems like there is so much potential. In brief, my first visit had a lot of issues, but it seemed like we caught them at a bad time, so I committed to a second visit. The second visit was with a large group that arrived at separate times, and truth be told, I got lost in the shuffle and didn't get food, so again, a one off. Someone suggested we give it another try for breakfast today, and it had promise, but missed on a few key areas for me. The more detailed description of the most recent visit is this: We were seated immediately but waited a decent amount of time for drinks. Generally, at breakfast restaurants, someone is asking if you'd like some coffee within the first minute of your arrival (or when being seated), but here it didn't happen for at least 5-7 minutes. Not horrible, but they didn't appear to be busy and I spotted several staff members that were not engaged with active service. Just a cup of coffee would have at least started things on the right foot. Ultimately, we did get asked about beverages and we did get coffee from a very friendly waitress. Then we got menus. Mine was dirty and my guests was wet. We ordered our food and I will tell you it was fast. The bacon was great, the toast was great, the coffee was great (it's easy to make cheap coffee at a breakfast restaurant, but they are serving good stuff here, kudos!), but the eggs and hash browns were not the best. The eggs were runny, like very runny. Admittedlyi did get them over easy, but these had a lot of the clear transparent stuff. Conversely, my hash browns were a bit overdone. There's something to be said for some golden crispness, but mine had some dark brown/black solid (like it was stuck in the corner of the grill) stuff. My guests hash browns were fine, but eggs were similar, so a mixed bag. So to this point, an interesting experience. The ambiance is adequate. Not much to look at (plain, not bad), at it looks like it was once another restaurant and they haven't changed much. So I decided to browse the internet on my phone and noticed the signal does not penetrate the building well, so I went to the front desk and asked if they had wifi. I was told, "yes we do, but we don't give out the password". I'd suggest this means, no, they do not have that amenity (it seems weird that they would be thinking I might be asking what they have available for business or staff, but not for customers). I also think wifi is a common thing to offer at all restaurants these days, particularly if the building or location present challenges to cellular reception. As previously mentioned the coffee was good, so I did want more, but I was only asked "how is everything", when I had a quarter cup, and later, "do you need anything else", which are both fine, but I definitely felt like I was unconvincing them by asking for more. This may be on me for not just asking when they came around before I wanted it (I could have anticipated), but there is a part of me that expects servers to do a round or two to check on drinks specifically. It's a small thing, but it matters. Finishing on a positive note, I will underscore that the service was very polite despite any things I thought could have been better. Additionally, the food was brought to the table buy a very kind gentleman from the kitchen (he was very accommodating in our 25 second exchange as he confirmed and suggested possible needs I may have with my food, outstanding!). Finally, I really appreciated their homage to the various military services located near the entrance. This place has a ton of potential, and I will 100% give it another try as I want it to be great, it just wasn't there for me yet. read more

Omg I love their waffles. Idk if I was just there on a good day because I unfortunately have not been back since but the waffle was so delicious. The texture was amazing and the flavor was even better. I felt like I was eating birthday cake for breakfast. Yummmmmmm!!! Service was fine, nothing spectacular or unexpected. The typical hurried service you expect from places like this. Decor/ambience I think is appropriate given the location. Overall good from my one and only visit.
