The greens are awesome they are not canned and they are loaded with meat to give it that extra flavor. The Ribs was very meaty with smoke flavor, macaroni and cheese was creamy and good and the bake beans was good with a nice sweetness to it. I also loved the barbecue sauce. Also keep in mind I have had Jim N Nicks just not this location and we will definitely be back. I hope that when we visit it will still have the same quality of taste! read more

We came here on a Sunday for a late lunch / early dinner. The hostess was friendly and got us seated immediately in a nice little booth in the corner. Our server, Morgan was fantastic! She did a really nice job of making sure we had drink refills, sauces, extra napkins, etc. She provided us with great service throughout our visit I was blown away by how swiftly our meals came out! I typically do not default to ordering chicken tenders but I love theirs at JNN! So crispy on the outside and tender. I also had collard greens as my side; they were seasoned and well prepared. I added a little pepper sauce ( I'm southern). Oh and I can't forget about those warm , beautiful cheddar muffins - Whew! My guest had a pork plate with fries and onion rings. They enjoyed their meal as well. JNN is definitely a good go to family friendly restaurant that offers nice food options. The inside was clean but the floor was a little slippery. It's a good, sit-down barbeque spot. Do I think Jim 'n Nick's is the best barbeque in town? Ehhh. But if you're searching for a slightly fancier ambiance, this is the place. All the classic things you could want. I normally get a pulled pork plate, but the ribs are also good. Collards could come with a little more pot likker (yes, non-Alabamians, that is the word). Mac is ok, but missing some crusty bits that would make it shine. Service is always ok. They're pretty on top of things, but usually acting like they're too busy for you. Lots of running around. The have a few beers on draft including Cahaba Blonde. Like many family-friendly restaurants, I can't help but feel like every surface in here in kinda sticky. The drive-thru line is usually buzzing. Lisa was our server today. I haven't been here for a while. The place is always neat and proper. Waited shortly to be seated and sat in a booth. Remembered the rib tips but they were no longer on the menu. I ordered the catfish and collards and corn on the cob. Catfish and collards were good. Corn on the cob is delicious with the white bbq sauce. The lighting is always good and adds to the atmosphere of the diner. The only thing that stopped the 5 stars is they still don't have Crystal, Bull or Franks hot sauce. They still only carry Tabasco and that just wont do it for me. Food was still good but I like to put hot sauce on my greens and fish. To end on a great note, Lisa was an awesome waitress and a have to give "her 5 stars." She took great care of us. Went in to place a to go order and ended up having a solo dinner at the restaurant . To start, the staff is very nice and engaging. Angela took care of me and answered multiple questions about the menu and offered terrific suggestions. She even brought me some cheddar biscuits on the house! The food was delicious my favorite being the smoked sausage and house made bbq sauce. The Mac and Cheese was very flavorful and the coleslaw did a great job at cutting through the strong Smokey flavors. Besides the usual bbq chicken, brisket, pulled pork, and ribs, we also got some salads. wings with white sauce, catfish, sides of Mac and cheese, baked beans and onion rings, and of course those bomb little cornbread muffins. Whenever I'm craving quick BBQ around me Jim 'N Nick's is my go to. $20 for a half rack of baby back ribs, two biscuits and two sides. The ribs are actually very good and satisfy my craving when I want BBQ. The Mac and cheese is good and the greens are good enough although I have to season them up when I get home. I visited Jim 'N Nicks in Hoover on a Sunday night after craving Bar-B-Q for most of the day. I had eaten there once before and knew it had a stellar reputation. It was not crowded and we were seated immediately and taken care of promptly with beverages of out choosing. We ordered and the food was delivered promptly. Maybe it was because I was expecting the experience to be memorable since I do love Bar-B-Q, but unfortunately, it was just good, quality food. Nothing at all wrong with that but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. Maybe the ambience was a little too sterile, the staff too distant, my expectations too high or just an off day, but I was just hoping for an elevated experience. The prices are on the higher side of similar restaurants and maybe that influenced my review as well. The sides were great by the way. Best barbecue I've had in a while. There's usually a wait in the drive through but I've also eaten inside and that seemed to be much faster. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the weather. I've lived my whole life in the south and haven't had that much bbq in all these bbq places in Bama. I avoid it because I don't eat pork. In the south it is mainly pork. But a friend told me that this place had good beef brisket. They lied. All I tasted was smoke. Brisket has such a good natural beef flavor to it and I basically felt like I was eating soft textured beef with an abundance of wood house smoke flavor. Corn was good hard to mess up corn. Cheese biscuits 10/10. I may come back just for an order of these. Mac and cheese had too much roux with over cooked macaroni and barely any cheese, zero seasoning. Maybe southern bbq is an acquired taste. I'm sorry I wasn't a fan..but at least now I know I'm not missing anything. South America and the Middle East knows how to bbq a cow. I decided to place a to go order on 9/9. I ordered 1lb of the spare ribs, mac n cheese, fries, and a sweet tea. Got the sweet tea and it tasted as if soap was in it (didn't even replace it, tossed it out). Received my food, I stayed right next the restaurant and went straight to my room to eat. How come my food wasn't even warm except for the mac n cheese. The ribs tasted as if I left them on the counter for a few hours and came back and started eating them. We've been to many Jim n Nick's bbq locations... but won't be back to this one. The restaurant wasn't busy but I guess I now know why. We arrived at 5:10 and had to wait for someone to notice us. We were finally acknowledged by a server and she seated us in her section. We ordered drinks (2 peach teas, a glass of wine and a water). Other servers dropped off our drinks in shifts (someone brought the water, someone else the wine, and about 10 minutes later we flagged someone else to get the tea). We continued to wait for our server to order dinner and at least another 10 minutes passed before she came over. We placed our order... our food didn't come out until after 6. * bbq baker - great * ribs, French fries, coleslaw - tough and cold ribs, squishy fries and strange coleslaw * chicken fingers, Mac and cheese, salad - just ok We didn't see our server again until she dropped the check. I haven't been to Jim N Nicks in a few months, so I decided to go there with my family this week. We had to wait around 8-10 minutes to be seated since we are a family of 5. Our waiter was patient and welcoming. I got the classic cheesy biscuits that they're known for. Aside from that, I had the smoked chicken sandwich that has smoked pulled chicken with BBQ sauce and pickles with a side of french fries. I also had Dave's lemonade as my beverage.
