Abdul, the owner, is lovely and we wish we could clone him and bring him back to Denver. As vegans, it's never a guarantee that you will find good plant-based food on the road. When you first walk in, you immediately notice the ambience feels like a mix of your typical diner and your grandma's house. The waiter was extremely nice and informative. He even took the time to go through the whole menu and highlight some of the local favorites. Of his recommendations, my party and I selected the Fuul appetizer, Mixed Kabob platter, and Ciku Stir Fry. I also couldn't resist ordering the Mint Lemonade Smoothie! Fuul - (3/5)- A newer addition to the appetizer menu that comes with a side of pita bread and vegetable platter. It had a chunkier consistency than typical hummus but was lacking in overall flavor for me. Ciku Stir Fry - (4/5) - A Mediterranean take on an Asian classic. A hearty portion of rice, roasted onions, peppers and the meat of your choice. The waiter suggested lamb (off menu) and it was full of aromatic flavor albeit not as tender as I would have hoped. Highly recommend. Mixed Kabob - (5/5) - A staple dish of most Mediterranean restaurants. The chicken and beef were some of the most tender and delicious I've ever had though, rivaling that of Kasra's. Would come back for this dish. Mint Lemonade Smoothie (5/5) - This place is worth a visit for this item alone. For 2.99 you get this freshly made delight that is perfect for hot summer's day. Be aware of the long wait times though. We were the only party in the restaurant at the time and it still took about 20-25 minutes for our food to come out. But if you have the time, this place is definitely worth a visit if you're in the mood for some delicious Kabobs and refreshing Mint Lemonade! read more

What great food! It's some of the best Lebanese food we've had in a while. The kibbeh and falafel are flavorful and were the perfect combination of moist and crisp. The service was just okay--such as, it was a little awkward to be brought appetizers when we didn't have napkins or silverware--the server brought them a few minutes later, but it was painful to sit there with our friends, starving after a 3 hour hike at Exploration Green and staring at our falafel as it got cooler and cooler--but this was a minor issue compared to how excellent the food was. Wow! Just had the BEST lunch! Ordered spicy potatoes, feta and olives, gyro, kibbeh, and harissi. Everything was delicious. When we arrived to pickup our order, we were asked to wait a moment for a fresh piece of harissi, and they included a piece of baklava for the wait. It was the best baklava!! Gyro! Gyro! Gyro! Read all about it! Extra! Extra! Right, so, for this afternoon's edition of the paper let's talk gyro. Now I'm not normally a big fan of the plain, flat, tongue-shaped pieces of meat some places use. And it gets used here but y'all, the rest of the sammich more than makes up for it. The house-made tzatziki sauce is unbelievable, and veggies are fresh and.... Ok listen to this one because this is a new one to me....pickle slivers. I'm not even shtn you. Ok, I axed the guy and he told me technically they weren't actually dill pickles but that's what they tasted like but better. I mean srsly, it worked in the gyro. The pita is a perfect consistency with the soft bread, the chewiness, all that good stuff. Wait, is chewiness a word? I'm looking that up after I'm done this review. No wait, I'll do it now... Ok Wikipedia says it's a word, I'll go with that one. I also had the hummus which also was extremely good. The pita bread used for the hummus is the nice, thin bread like you'd find used for shawarmas. There are a bunch of pictures here already, I won't post another. I also had the house salad. Greens, red, yellow, and green peppers, cucumber pieces, tossed with an oil-based dressing with some herbs. Nothing to write home about. Except me. Sawa, in my opinion, is a really nice hole-in-the-wall place! To start off when you enter the place it really reminds me of places you'd see in India with similar architecture on the inside specifically the glass panes with their designs. Either way when entering, you take a seat and a waiter approaches. The service was extremely good truly a nice experience. The food was fantastic as well! We had some Kibbeh, nicely flavoured with some great sauce, Baba Ganouj, some Pita and I had a Gyro! The gyro meat was honestly really tasty! I was quite surprised as I've had plenty of Gyros in the area (fantastic Gyros may I add), but this one was up there! The meat was flavourful and the tzatziki sauce was evenly distributed with a nice contrasting taste really evening out that flavour. The fries that came with it were great too! The only issue we had was with the Baba Ganouj, which had a texture that was a little off, we did not enjoy it. That day, they were short-staffed so it's understandable. Either way, the waiter was super kind and gave us extra food to take home! Extremely kind of her. Again the service was truly superb! I was sad to see that not a lot of people were inside and it really saddened me because small businesses like this deserve more support especially with the great food and nostalgic atmosphere. When I first saw the Sawa restaurant I didn't expect it to be that good and I wasn't very expectant of anything amazing but the food was very good. The food was very authentic and tasted good. The falafel salad had an amazing dressing and the vegetables were fresh and crisp. The stir fry was good and the beef was very tender. The rice was good and the bell peppers added a nice touch of taste and made the dish look very nice. The chicken shawarma was good and the bell peppers added a very nice sweet touch to it. The service was also really good and our server was very nice. This just goes to show that you can't judge a book by its cover. read more

My husband and I are vegan and were super excited to find this place had a good selection of vegan options. The hummus is creamy, the Baba Ghannouj has that nice mild smoky eggplant flavor. So Good! They have notes what is vegan on their menu. They have more than just salads and dips (which I would be totally happy here). They have an entrée vegan ciku stir fry, it's Sauté veggies, and l instead of meat, they sub walnuts and almonds over season rice which is delicious! Definitely fills you up! They have spicy potatoes (very hot!). A cool mint lemonade smoothie that is super refreshing for these hot Texas days. Definitely recommend! After reading all of the great reviews I decided to try it for lunch instead of another local spot. Ordered the gyro to go. The girl working FOH was nice. I love gyros and have had them from several places in the area. I have never encountered pickles on a gyro before today. Traditionally it comes with cucumber, yes. But not pickled. The pita was too tough to bite through. And there was barely any meat which is not the norm for what I've had at other places. Unfortunately will be crossing this one off my list. read more

I do wish they'd consider a delivery option - there are so many delivery companies available, and I'd appreciate the convenience when I work long days or don't want to drag my little guy out to pick up food. The hummus is incredibly smooth in texture and not doused in salt like so many other places. The schwarmas and kababs are flavorful, and I've enjoyed everything in the sampler. Went there for the first time tonight. Wasn't very crowded (around 7-ish). Waitress was so sweet. Attentive but not pushy. Made for an enjoyable experience. She knew the menu inside out and offered to tell us about any food we weren't familiar with. We got hummus and pita bread as an appetizer and it literally was the best I've ever had! My son got the Kofta Kabab, which is three fingers of kofta (ground beef or lamb) served on a bed of rice, house salad or yogurt and cucumber sauce ($14.99). I got the Gyro only ($6.99). Both were excellent! The gyro was so large I couldn't finish it. Brought the leftovers home. Very fresh and flavorful. Their pita bread, both with the hummus and the gyro is thinner than I'm used to, but I actually preferred it that way. Wasn't overwhelming with "bread" taste like some places. So the flavor of whatever you were eating it with came through. It still held up very well for the gyro. Tasted fresh-baked. All in all I can't recommend this place enough. Please visit soon. This place is a bit off-putting when you first walk inside. It's empty, rather shabby, and smells like a dentist's office. The first time here I had a gyro, and I didn't care for it at all. Since it's near work, I read some more reviews and came back. This time I ordered the falafel sandwich and I've got to admit that the falafel was very tasty, although the bread it was wrapped in was tough and chewy. But that falafel - so good. The staff is very nice and my only other complaint is the unsweet tea. I don't think its brewed here - it tastes like it's from a can or a mix. If I came back, I'd stay away from the Greek stuff and the iced tea. read more

Kibbeh is a must (finely grounded meat packed into cracked wheat-so good!) Entrees: The chicken and beef mix over rice is fantastic. The beef is FILET MIGNON and is so freaking juicy.
