Updates of Texan eateries I like (1 of 2)…read more The food, the service, the small store ambiance, the parking situation, and the value are still excellent at Ivett's in League City. There should be no need to write an update. I see that my initial review was written about 5 years ago. This is about how they handle the transferral of totaled tabs to the credit card. When I go to the Houston area, I usually eat lunch at Ivett's twice a week - yes, it's that good. And it's doable because I tend to stay in their "Bay Area," which is south of the city near Space Center Houston and in the suburbs adjacent to large Galveston Bay. Here's what the deal is, and this happened last year and a year or two before that. When I get the bill, it's usually a number that has cents attached to it, thus an "uneven" sort of number. To this, I add a tip. If the final bill were to be $12.72, for example, I might add $2.28 to bring it to an even $15.00. (I've asked restaurant employees over the years if this is weird and they tell me they have customers who do this.) Fast forward to the charge hitting the credit card. In 2025, one charge went through a meaningless few cents higher and one charge went through without the tip altogether. I've never worked in a restaurant, so I don't know how the process works where the final bill is sent over to the credit card company. In this situation, I came out ahead. But that's not the point. I want the employees who were my servers to get their tips and get what I indicated on the copy that I signed. This same exact sort of scenario showed up a year or two before when I also visited twice ... with one lunch charge coming across without the tip. Another lunch charge must have been processed with an even dollar amount as the tip. Again, I came out ahead, if you even want to look at it that way, but I want the employee to get his or her tip. The price-quality-quantity here remains at 5 stars. That's why I have filed Ivett's away in my head. I've now landed on the pattern of lunch specials that I like in any given week - a chicken dish and the manicotti dish, so I come in for those. I did try the lasagna once and, since this is in the U.S. of A. and not fine dining, they use the thicker undulating sheets of pasta that I'm not a fan of. It's to be understood. It's what most Italian-American restaurants do. That dish might come in as a 4. I applaud Ivett's for being a small restaurant that is intent on serving its customers and its community. However, if the tip for that one customer's meal is $2.28, $2.74, or $3.11 because the customer is seeking to hit a "normal" looking final number, then it's $2.28, $2.74, or $3.11. And, if they don't enter the tip at all, then I feel bad because the employee didn't get their tip and it makes me feel cheap ... cheaper than I already am to some people. Fix this little clerical issue by instructing your employees how to do so ... and keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing you all (translation: y'all) the next time I'm in the area.

One bad experience can simply be an off day, and one amazing meal can be a one time success. A second visit tells you whether a restaurant is truly consistent. I am happy to say that Sofia's delivered both times. The pizza is delicious. It may not be the kind of pizza that changes your life, but it has everything a great pizza should have, a flavorful crust, quality ingredients, and great flavor. That said, do not come just for the pizza. A personal pizza is perfect to share as an appetizer, but the entrées are the real stars of the menu. I ordered the trout, and it was one of the freshest fish dishes I have had in a long time. It was cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and served in a generous portion. The vegetables were fresh and cooked just right, and the pasta that accompanied the dish tasted like something you would expect from a good Italian restaurant. My wife ordered one of the lunch specials for less than $14, and it was equally impressive, original, delicious, and generously portioned. Sofia's is the kind of restaurant that earns repeat customers. I will definitely be back, and I would gladly recommend it to my friends and family.

I tasted my sister's marsala and it was wonderful, and we had a side of alfredo for the table (becasue we are pigs) and it was rich and delicious. Nephew had a peperoni pizza that looked crusy but I didn't taste it. They make their own pasta here. When you are seated they bring a basket of bread that is irresistable. It would be easy to spoil your dinner on the bread. Service was excellent and we asked for a lot of weird subs and things. Our server was on it. We shared tiramisu and key lime pie for dessert. The lady fingers were a little too damp but the mascarpone was perfect. Unlike a lot of Italian restaurants, you didn't just get garlic garlic garlic. There are many things on the menu I am eager to try. And I don't have to go inside the loop. It feels very eleavated for the area. We will be back and soon.

I came here for my birthday on a Saturday. We had a party of 9 and I made a reservation in advance…read morebecause Saturday night just seems like a busy night to go eat anywhere... but I'm not sure my reservation was totally necessary. They had our table already prepared which was fantastic, but the restaurant was slow and not very busy. We could've just walked in and, other than having to wait for them to prepare our table, been seated right away. Our waitress, Moriah, was fantastic! She had tables on opposite sides of the restaurant, but since they weren't very busy it didn't seem to be an issue. There were a couple of times when we had to ask for drink refills, but it wasn't horrible. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was good, and I appreciate that they have some options that you wouldn't find just anywhere. That's the kind of thing I look for in a restaurant. However there were a few places where they fell short. 1. There was no kids menu. This may not be a big deal for a lot of people. It wasn't a big deal for me since my toddler eats pretty much anything, so we shared. It WAS however a big deal for my 6 year-old niece who does NOT eat anything. They told my sister that they could make some butter noodles or take the harissa off of a pizza and make it a smaller size for her. She opted for the butter noodles which were bland and unseasoned. Then they have no salt or pepper on the tables so she couldn't even season them until she asked for some. It helped, but they still weren't very good. 2. The food is overpriced. It's good food, but the prices were a little steep compared to the quality. My sister and I discussed this later and we both had the same thought. We didn't understand why they weren't busy because they had the potential to be, and it just felt like they maybe were trying TOO hard. I would go back, but this wouldn't be a regular choice for me. I'd be happy to go if someone chose this as an option, and I might even choose to go back for a date night or something. I like the atmosphere of the place as well as how open it felt... I don't love a crowded space. Another thing I loved was the Smoked Caramel Bread Pudding. I'm surprised I liked it so much because I don't typically love added smoke flavor, but this worked! Listen, I LOVE bread pudding. If there's ever bread pudding on the menu, I'm going to get it. This being my birthday dinner dessert was absolutely fine by me. The edges were a little caramelized and it was absolutely delicious and everyone who tried it agreed. Give this place a try, but just know that you may pay a little more than what it's worth. It's still tasty food though! Also... try the bread pudding!
