Ordered volcano fish and spicy basil leaf for take out. Volcano fish was good though I would have liked more sauce with the take out. The sauce is given separately so the fried fish doesn't loose its crisp. But the sauce wasn't enough when I added it to the dish. Rice on the side was adequate. Sawaddee is by far one of the BEST Thai restaurants in the Miami Beach area. The local cosy environment is super chill and has unbeatable prices. The food is amazing and he service too. I've NEVER had a bad experience. Best dish is their Pad Thai hands down and you can't go wrong with their curry!! They don't have a liquor license so you can bring your own drinks, only $3 for an ice bucket. They also have great lunch specials. Thank god I don't work near them or else I'd be ordering every day! read more

I'm willing to pay a high-end price for good Thai food but for the quality they serve here, it's way too pricey. And the food was below any good standard. On top of that one of the sushi rolls my friend ordered(dynamite) came out we BOTH tried it and it looked ugly and tasted like card board. She told us the manager only would offer us another roll so we asked if we could speak with her and she had offered the same but we explained it was so bland we just couldn't eat . The people that work here seem eager to please but that's probably the only great thing about this place. The rolls here are so small, which is why I'm knocking off a star. I wouldn't mind paying for more if they were filling and bigger. Luckily I ordered a few rolls so I didn't leave starving. I also had the Tom Kah and omg, it was soooooo good. a must try for anyone wanting a small appetizer before they eat. The space is comfortable and clean... I have been going to Sawaddee off-and-on since I moved to Miami Beach back in late 2017. I now go there every Friday for lunch. I thoroughly enjoy the food, especially the lunch special "Thai Basil with Chicken," and the "Cashew Nut Chicken." I ask for my food to be extra, EXTRA Thai hot/spicy, and that is exactly how I get it - just the way I like it. I like their lunch special because you get a nice little portion of chicken soup with vegetables and a spring roll. The lunch portion as a meal is just enough to feel full; not too much and not too little. I especially like the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. The prices are good. There is ample parking in the lot just South of the restaurant. If you haven't tried this place, I highly recommend it. It's my favorite. read more

The Tom Yum Kong rightly bore its middle name and was a wonder -- spicy-just-right, full of fresh vegetables, with fleshy shrimp and just the right amount of garlic. I continued with a good fried soft-shell crab, crunchy and pleasant. The Pad See Ew was my main dish and was excellent -- perfectly noodles, a well-balanced and not over-salty sauce, fresh veggies, and textured cuts of beef. I loved there pad thai, their rolls are yummy, but I stopped going after one day I came and all their meat tasted so bad I couldn't eat it. At first I thought their meats weren't cooked right. I will say that the papaya salad is a little pricey for the quantity you get but the quality makes up for it every time. PS the Panang curry is a must try for any Thai food lover. The restaurant was very cold. I ordered an eel roll and my mom ordered pad thai noodles with veggies and chicken. She loved the chicken soup that came with it and I had the spring roll that was so crisp and delicious. What sucked was that the taste of the roll was 6 out of 10 AND after my mom received her noodles my sushi came 40 minutes after!!! when I got up to ask where it was, it was sitting on top of the stand for god knows how long! So i asked the chef if it was mine and he was like "oh...yeah". I was in a rush and had to eat it fast. A part from the long wait, the staff was pretty nice and polite and patient with all of my questions. But they need to step up on delivering! I know that give 5 stars is a little bit to much, but every time that I went there I have great food, excellent service, even the chef came to the table to see if we need help with the order and to check if everything was good. I have to say one thing about this place, and I hope you will understand: Is food that make you feel good. I went there in different set of mind (stress/depress/sad), and I feel happy after. I have great and very cheap lunch there (like $5. and even left over for diner!) What else can you ask to a place. This is a less of a review and more of a cautionary tale or plea for advice. We liked Sawaddee until last night. Sawaddee was our neighborhood Thai place for many years, and good for a quick fix. Last night we ordered a meal for the family to go. We ordered some Nam Sod, Papaya Salad and a noodle dish. When my son opened the Nam Sod container he noticed a METAL SCREW in the food. I generally don't expect items from the hardware store mixed into a meal. Our 13 year old son could have began eating fast and furious as usual, and we could have ended up in the emergency room! Wow. Score. I've lived in this area for years now and didn't even know this hole-in-the-wall Thai place existed until I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago. I was looking for parking to go to a different Thai place nearby, but the streets were packed. I took a side street that I don't normally take and immediately saw the sign for Sawaddee Thai. This place is not much larger than my living room. There's a bar in the middle of the room that sits about 10-12 people and a couple wobbly tables scattered about. We were immediately greeted by this little old Thai woman who spoke with the cutest accent. She offered us a table in the only tucked away corner in the restaurant. I knew what I wanted to order immediately. I have a thing for massaman curry. It's so creamy, spicy and warming (coconut milk, thai spice, potatoes, avocado, chicken and cashews) - I order it at every Thai restaurant that I visit. My hubs ordered the basil fried rice and he asked for it spicy. As you know, this is sometimes a dangerous thing to do in a Thai food restaurant because they do not mess around with their spice. As we waited for the food, we noticed that some of the other patrons had brought in their own beverages. I love to BYOB because sometimes restaurants do not have the alcohol selection that I want. The smells coming from the kitchen were intoxicating... I can tell this food is going to knock my freaking socks off. I was not disappointed. In fact, it was one of THEE BEST dinners I've had in ages. The massaman curry was just how I like it - a perfect balance of the creamy coconut milk and the Thai spice. Did I mention that they serve you a heaping bowl full of it too? I mean, there was enough for a small army to share this with me. The basil fried rice was really good too - but I was too afraid to try it because I saw my husband sweating like a pig from all the spice they added. My husband is crazy and will drink Tabasco by the gallons if I let him so I wasn't too worried about him. However, beware. If you ask for spice, they WILL not be shy with it. I cannot tell you how tickled I am that I've finally found a place in the area I live where I can get a 5 star meal. You know, I'm starting to find that it's the little, unknown restaurants who do not try to impress you with flashy decor or a 20 page menu who always provide the best, most authentic culinary experience. Stumbled upon Sawadee because Katana had a crap load of folks waiting to be seated. What a gem! Hole in the wall family owned Asian restaurants are the best. Everyone in our party of 5 loved what they ordered. The service is excellent, food comes out quickly and by 7:00 PM they had people lined up on the sidewalk waiting to get in. One of the things they do very well is tempura. The batter is light and crispy, not at all oily, just as it should be. The lobster tempura roll is ah-mazing. A single person would have a hard time finishing this dish. You get a large maki roll, delicious hot and crispy sweet potato tempura and a lobster shell filled with chunks of lobster tempura. They drizzle it with a sweet and salty sauce that turns the whole dish into crack. Everyone was oohing and aahing over this dish. The cheesecake tempura was not what I expected. Usually they give you a slice of cheesecake battered and fried, here you get small pieces of cheesecake wrapped in springroll wrappers. Skip this one next time, but I'd drive here just for the lobster roll. read more

I've been in South Beach for 6 weeks and have yet to enjoy an authentic, delicious Asian meal of any kind. Happily I found Sawaddee. The great reviews I read were all on point. This is my new go to Thai spot. I visited for dinner along with my boy and two friends. My bf is a bit of a diva (more than a bit) and was a bit concerned about the aesthetics. Indeed the spot is very 70's paneled basement, I won't deny. But whatev. The smell was amazingly delicious and the place was packed with happy looking folks eating away. Digging the BYOB policy, we brought our beer and bubbly. The lovely server even brought a bucket for my bubbly! I'm the veggie in the crowd. While steamed veggies aren't on the menu, I assumed I can have what I want (as always) and ordered steamed veggies. We also ordered veggie fried rice. My crew ordered a variety of meat dishes. My veggies were fresh and crisp. Rice was flavorful and light on the oil as I requested. My bf isn't one for detail, but reports that his Sweet and Sour Chicken was fresh and super good.
