I don't know why we haven't dined here in a while as we love Thai food and our sampler appetizer and meals were very tasty. We will do a better job of remembering to get Thai food here; especially since it is so convenient to our home. We chose to dine in instead of take out to have that fresh from the oven taste and it didn't disappoint. We thought all the appetizers on the sampler were excellent and filled us up a bit, but that was ok as we hoped to have leftovers the next night for dinner - which we did! I got the Red Curry with chicken and unlike other places there was plenty of perfectly cooked chicken. My husband got the Gapow with beef and my sister-in-law got Gapow with chicken. My husband and I kept eating from each other's entrees as both were desired. The staff were welcoming and with the right timing for attention to our dining experience. We going to pick up something but due to rain we postponed a bit. And we were hungry so we saw sawasdee and decided to eat first and wait for rain to stop. We were seated then we order but during the wait the rain stop so we decided to make it to go , pick our stuff and comeback to get our order. So when we get home we reheat everything. But pad thai was totally taste off and beef kinda dry. I normally like the brown sauce pad thai but occasionally did get to the place with red sauce pad thai. But to me this pad thai is just not to my liking. Then the coconut chicken soup it's was so sour and so watery did not taste like coconut and chicken meat also dry. I'm gonna be honest. This was not on my list of spots to check out, but it was a post-museum lunch. It was quieter than I expected for a Saturday around 1 p.m., but that worked out in our favor, as the service was quick, and so was the preparation of the entrees. I'm going to guess by the decor that this place is busier for dinner time since it has a moodier, intimate vibe. I have my go-to dishes for when I dine at a Thai restaurant. It's either the laab, pad see ew, or a curry. The server was helpful with our questions, but this time, I rolled the dice on the house specialty menu with the grapow, and it did not disappoint. My dining partner asked what I had ordered as soon as it arrived at the table. How could you not? A fried egg and a rangoon garnish! Thoroughly enjoyed my time and food here at Sawadesi Thai Cuisine. It's situated right on the busy 119th Street, and I think it has a good center point for Overland Park, Olathe, and Lenexa. For me the ambience - 5/5, food quality - 5/5, cleanliness - 5/5, service - 5/5, and I definitely think this restaurant deserves way more than the current Yelp rating. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was greeted with beautiful Christmas decorations adding fun holiday touch and a very clean space with good ambience. There was a TV playing down the hall showing beautiful visuals of Thailand and nice soothing music in the background. We were seated by a very sweet staff member, and for our appetizers - we just ordered two big bowls of Tom Kha soup - one with shrimp and another with chicken. For our main course, we shared a lemongrass stir fry which had pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, and lots of veggies. And for the dessert, we got the mango sticky rice topped with sweet coconut milk. The soups came in a huge portion and were really tasty. I just hope they could cut the chicken pieces in the chicken Tom Kha soup a little smaller since they were huge, but the shrimp were perfect. The stir fry tasted unique with the lemongrass, and all the meats were cooked well, and I really enjoyed it. Dessert - I felt the mango sticky rice pudding was a bit too sweet for me, but overall a great dish. We arrived around 5 PM and then saw that they were serving dinner on Saturday for the whole day. The staff also said that they would be open on Christmas Day and New Year's - incase we don't feel like cooking home and want to have delicious food :) After we were seated, I saw a lot of crowd coming in and one of the common dishes I observed them ordering were the spicy crab rangoons!! They are definitely on my must try list from here. I also saw that they had a few more specials running in December and saw that it includes a duck corn and bacon dumplings- leckerrr. Love that the pricing is better than the Thai restaurants around, giving you an upscale experience with great food for a manageable price. Parking isn't an issue because there is plenty available. I will be back to try more dishes and recommend everyone to visit and show them some love. read more

Stopped in here for a late dinner with some friends, cute little dining area. There is a bar connected by the front door, did look limited on alcohol choices. The waitress was quick to the table and had suggestions for those that didn't have their minds made up. Shortly after ordering we received the Spicy Rangoon, which had just enough heat to taste it. Finally tried this Thai spot. My friends have been recommending it since I moved here 6 months ago. They were right. It's delicious! So many yummy choices but I went with the Curry Flight. I love to taste different flavors so give me a variety option like a flight and I'm in! The only down side is that they pick the curries and out of about 6 or 7 choices, you get red, yellow, and Panang. Delicious but I really wanted to try their green, Massuman, and Jungle curry as my 3 selections. I'll have to try each one of those separately. I still recommend it and all 3 of those curries were tasty. My partner got the Tamarind Chicken and other dishes at the table like Tom Ka soup, coconut shrimp, and Pad Thai were all delicious! Especially the Tom Ka. One of the best I've tasted. I'll be having that again! It was busy with a few larger parties and only a couple of servers so a bit slow at times but they hustled and got us what we needed! It was my friend's bday and even though they don't do anything for birthdays, our server stopped by to lead us all in singing happy birthday! Very, very nice people working there! The restaurant is really clean and elegant with ample seating and warm light. They are open on Christmas Day, so I may be back then since I can only take so much holiday food! Let me start off by saying the salad rolls were flavorless. I don't believe I ordered vegetarian but that's what I got. The Vietnamese rice noodles were brown I don't think I've ever had these rice noodles brown like that before it was a little concerning. The dipping sauce was from a jar. I'm sure of it and not enough for two rolls. I ordered the Tom Yum soup with shrimp. The shrimp was incredibly fishy. I don't think I've ever had shrimp with a fishy taste. I was always going to give this place four stars until the Cook came out and started playing classical music on the piano. That just blew my mind. I ordered pickup from Sawasdee. They packaged the food nicely and it was still warm when I got home. We got Pad Thai and Panang Curry. The food was pretty good and there aren't any complaints. It hits the spot when you're craving Thai food, so I was happy about that! I would say that the food was pretty sweet, but that was expected from Thai food, so nothing major there. Best Thai I've had in the Overland Park area and decent compared to other places I've tried around the country. I've been three so I had an opportunity to sample the same dishes twice and verify consistency. Far warning I can't take heat so when I say an item is hot, it's probably fine for 99.9% of the people. The egg rolls were standard fair however they weren't greasy so that was a great sign. The Tom Kha soup was really good but a tad spicy for me. The coconut was so silky and luxurious I kept wanting more. I had it with pork which was cooked fine and a generous helping was given. I loved the subtle hint of lemongrass. Here is where I get into consistency as everyone makes Pad Thai, the national dish of Thailand, differently. I opted for the Pad Thai mild with Shrimp. I counted 8 huge, perfectly cooked shrimp, the noodles were what I expected in the form of Sen Yai (think of rice noodles shaped like linguini) without being gummy, raw bean sprouts (some cook it), etc. I could pick up with salty fish sauce, a nice hit of Tamarind paste, and palm sugar. Everyone has a definition of "authentic" and this was mine. Next I tried the Garee Curry (yellow) with pork. I love this dish so much and they nailed it. Again the nailed what I know as "authentic" with carrots, potatoes, onions and meat. The coconut milk was so satisfying while the heat from the curry was perfect. The jasmine rice was fragrant and didn't stick together. I've tried a few Thai places and this location is my personal favorite. read more

I'd say: quadruple the veggies and we'd be good. The other two dishes were massive (fried basil rice and vegetable lovers entree with beef), and well flavored. The staff were kind, quick and helpful on a Wednesday evening. It's no secret to any who follow my Yelp feed that I love Asian foods... among my favorites is Thai, and I love trying places where I've never been. At a friend's invitation I found myself at Sawasdee Thai in Overland Park for lunch today. I'd seen it many times as my barber is in the same shopping center, but I'd never gotten around to trying it. The venue itself is nice enough. It's appointed with all kinds of culturally appropriate decor. The owners obviously put in some effort to make it feel nice... the overall impression is pretty, although not "fancy." For my meal I ordered my go-to Thai dish: Grapow with beef, medium heat, and a house salad. The small salad was primarily iceberg lettuce, which was crisp and well chilled, and included a few carrot shreds and some chopped peanut. It was dressed with a sweet vinaigrette that was quite tasty. The lunch plate was exactly what I expected, and it was suitably prepared. The serving size seemed a bit disproportionate with the rice looming significantly larger than the entree itself. The Rangoon was sweet and well prepared. The Grapow was also very good. The heat was just right... and that's sometimes a gamble with Thai. ;-) On the whole, my experience was fine. It won't make my "short list" of favorite Thai food restaurants as there are other Thai places nearby that I would choose before this one, but at the same time I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Sawasdee if I were asked. read more
