The not so good The noodles were way over cooked and the food needed a lot more color and sauces offered. No sauce was offered at all! This is a great place for pick up or dine in. The ambiance is nice and the service was awesome. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was based on my trip to the restroom. It wasn't terrible, but also not the nicest. It was clean, but could use a little TLC. You also have to pass the kitchen and there were dirty dishes carts beside the hallway. The food is delicious! My husband and I shared the Massaman curry with chicken. My oldest son got the Korean chicken dinner. It was a large portion and he liked it, but even mild was a bit too spicy for his liking. And my youngest wanted chicken nuggets. The menu I saw on Yelp that someone posted is not up to date. So, he tried the honeymoon chicken. If your kid wants chicken nuggets-don't get this dish. It is thinly sliced chicken with a sweet sauce. He ended up eating the chicken from our massaman curry. I definitely recommend this food though. Visiting home from NYC area and was craving Thai. I had low expectations when ordering the Pad Thai and Masala Curry. Literally some of the best Thai I've ever had. What a surprise. The service was really good and fast. My only complaint was the small portion of rice that came with the curry dish and for a second order it was over $3.00 for another tiny portion. Kind of slow service for a weekday lunch, but very friendly and nice when we were attended to. Food was tasty and well cooked, with good flavors, textures, and consistencies. Presentation was very nice too. I also liked the crab rangoons that came with the lunch meal, and a choice of soup or salad. The soup looked much better than the salad. I couldn't be happier with this tasty and fast service! The restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. We tried their combo appetizer plate and I loved that they offer a homemade peanut sauce. Most Thai restaurants don't around this area. The spring rolls were super fresh and they actually offered meat or vegetarian options. If you love Thai tea get ready to share because that was one JUMBO tea. We also tried the chicken pad Thai and it could have been spicier but you can always ask for a different spice level. I love Thai Spice. Since we're only able to dash (ending today I think), and boy did I DoorDash from them. Usually it's the pineapple fried rice entree. Omg that is so good-raisins, shrimp, pineapple, cashews. I also never skip the crab rangoons. You see, their crab rangoons and little and crispy. It isn't thick like generic Chinese restaurants. When I order through Doordash, Thai Spice gives you heaping portions of everything and always get it right. Walking in and noticing how nice and peaceful it is- the environment. Waiter is super nice and informative. I had the Poke Bowl, salmon- fresh Rice was delicious. The only item I would minus, is the seaweed salad from the bowl. Im still new with Thai food, so I'm not sure of the authentic receipes but I would enjoy it better without the SS. I have only eaten here once as dine in, and it was absolutely the best Thai food I have ever had. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, and the restaurant is spotless. The atmosphere is relaxing and welcoming. Tonight, I ordered online. I have a child who has a disease that effects their appetite and ability to eat. So, in the rare event, that my kid says something sounds good, I am more than excited to make it happen. As I pulled up in front of the restaurant, the last gentleman was leaving, locking the door. He told me they were closed and I told him I wasn't sure what happened but that it had let me order online. I told him that I would just take a refund, or credit for a future order, but he would not take no for an answer. He unlocked the door and went inside and made the food fresh for me ! He did not know anything about my sick kiddo at home. sometimes, it's the small things like this, that come from a complete stranger, that just completely restores my faith in humanity, as a whole. Service and food quality at this location has steadily declined since we started going there earlier this year. Got a to go order on a Sunday and this was the worse yet. Observed what appeared to be a possibly homeless man going thru the trash (maybe he dropped something?) in front of the restaurant walking in. When he saw us approaching he walked into the restaurant, had to use the restroom in the back so could see this man walk into the kitchen and grabbed a frying pan....he was one of the cooks! and didn't wash his hands before getting back to cooking. My first thought was to cancel my order and after getting our food I wish I had. The food was poorly put together and for the first time (anywhere) we got Pad Thai Noodles that were bright red in color. We ordered no spice but for some reason both orders were extra spicy and the chicken and beef were in big chunks not bite size pieces. A co-worker originally from Thailand suggested that the reason the noodles might be bright red is that Thai Restaurants in America sometimes use ketchup or tomato paste for the sauce instead of tamarind that is typically used in more authentic recipes. It definitely didn't taste like any Pad Thai I every had, maybe they should just called it what it was...Spicy Ketchup Noodles. I should have brought it back but wasn't worth drive and they only ever have one waitress working the entire front where nothing happens fast. Waste of time and $50 bucks for two people won't be going back. read more

Looking for Thai food on the east side and we found Thai Spice. The reviews were mixed but we decided to try it. This location is in Independence off of Sterling across from Lowe's. Our service was fine. Prices are reasonable and the food was very good. The basil fried rice was tasty and the serving was large enough to take some home. The green curry was very good. We also had the appetizer sampler and enjoyed each item. We will go back which is our check on how much we really liked it. read more

This is perfectly good Thai food. It isn't wild and it isn't crazy which is a-ok for me. It was just a decently sized plate of chicken fried rice at a good price, which I was thankful for. One small note, there are a couple of seats close to the door, which could be an issue depending on the weather. When I visited I was sat right next to the door on a cold night and kept catching the wind when somebody walked through the door. This isn't the restaurant's fault, I could have asked to move and didn't, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention. read more

I lived in Thailand for almost a year. This isn't authentic food just because the sign says "Authentic Thai Food". The drunken noodles are flavorless (missing the signature sauce and barely any Thai basil, which is the staple flavor of this dish) and the chicken was dry. It came with 2 crab Rangoon which is not a Thai dish- this is an American way to serve Thai food. They also serve their carry out food in styrofoam (come on folks... it's 2022. Do your part.) the menu has items that are Korean and Chinese as well, making this an Asian kitchen, not a Thai one. It's just disappointing. I do appreciate that they did not add cutlery because I asked them not to. read more

One of my go to Thai places in town. I've been to two of there locations, both in independence. I have tried quite a few things on their menu but chicken pad Thai at a 3 spice is my favorite. I've gotten it with shrimp(to-go) and thought the shrimp was just a tad over cooked but still good. I've gotten all of their curries and love them. Some of the curries are spicy(the menu will indicate which ones are) but for me I love the spice. Now if you want to indulge please get their crab rangoon! They are so good my kids love them and I usually end up ordering two orders because my kids eat them all. The derive for me has always been friendly and promote. read more

We were traveling through KC and wanted something quick to eat but not fast food. The food was really good and the service was quick. I'd come back if we lived in the area. We ordered dumplings, the appetizer sampler, drunken noodles, pad Thai, sesame chicken, and wonton soup. The pad Thai came with the peanuts in the side with wedges of lime and orange to add if you like. The sesame chicken came with rice and steamed veggies including broccoli, baby corn, and carrots. I expect the wonton soup to be a small bowl with a couple of wontons. It actually was a big bowl with several wontons and lots of cabbage, green onions, and cilantro. I highly recommend it! I've driven by Thai spice a few times and finally decided to try it. I called in my order and it was ready & hot when I got there. The food was pretty good and the portion size was nice. I ordered the veggie fried rice and got it "Thai hot", but I was a little disappointed about the heat level. I expected it to spicier, so I ended up having to add heat to it myself. I tried this place on a Sunday evening for the first time. My initial visit was not bad. It's a tiny storefront restaurant alongside a lot of other places across from Lowe's. Despite its small size, it had a nice row of booths and a fairly large bar. I did notice that the floor was sticky and stuck to my shoes, although the place seemed clean. The waitress was friendly and attentive. I asked for water with lemon and she brought me water with lime, but no biggie. Their prices were somewhat steep ($3.95 for bubble tea, $5.95 for salad or soup, $12.95 for most entrees), so I skipped the appetizer & drink and ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp. I asked for it not to be spicy, and it was surprisingly sweet, with a pinch of peanuts to put on top. There was a lot of it, too, enough to take home for another meal. I felt somewhat disappointed that there were no veggies mixed in with it (unless you count the micro bits of carrot & onion even too small to be called matchsticks). It was basically a big bowl of noodles with about 6 fairly good-sized shrimp, so by no stretch of the imagination could I tell myself I was eating healthy. With tax and tip, it cost $16. Pretty pricey for a little storefront place. A few nights later I thought I'd try their carryout, so I ordered off the paper menu they'd provided the first time. I phoned in my order, which was waiting on the counter when I arrived (the floor was still sticky). This meal was hugely disappointing. I wanted something with more veggies, so I ordered the Bangkok Plate with tofu, described as steamed vegetables in a brown sauce with rice. I got a big container of plain white rice (which I don't really care for), and a separate container of veggies with tofu & sauce. The vegetables were cut into fairly large pieces, but practically raw - not only the broccoli, but also the green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. They'd only had a nodding acquaintance with any kind of heat as far as I could tell - not crisp/tender, but raw. The brown sauce was a strange tan color I'd never encountered before. It was pretty thin, but not unpleasant. However, there was very little of it, and it barely provided any flavor to the raw vegetables. As for the grilled tofu - I don't know how one messes up tofu, as it basically takes on the flavor or whatever it's cooked with - but this had a strange, vinegary taste that didn't go well with the sauce or veggies. This meal cost $12.10, and it was wasted money in my opinion. Way, way too much money for uncooked veggies, nasty tofu, and white rice. I'll not be back. read more

I've had friends recommend Thai spice to me from the Lee's summit location and independence location stating they are very good. Today my family decided to try the Kansas City location on sterling and found the service from Tony H. To be less than stellar. First he complained because we ordered 3 bubble teas and it would 'take a long time to make'. While ordering our to go meal he was less than attentive and claimed he was 'very busy' with only two occupied tables, when we asked about a kids menu he said 'no' and walked away. Once we arrived home with our order we noticed my daughters meal missing. I called the store to ask about it and Tony claimed I never ordered it. When I pointed out that I had ordered it straight to his face he changed his tune and claimed he didn't 'think I was serious about ordering that meal'. What the heck Thai spice? And not cool Tony H.
