The service is definitely slow. I would recommend a professional "How To Be A Great Server" course for the team. The food is inconsistent. What you get depends on who is cooking that day. It could taste right on, salty, or bland. I gave 2 stars for lack of consistency and inadequately staffed servers. So I always had a really nice young girl make me chicken only fresh spring rolls because My husband is allergic to shrimp and I used to do that a couple times a week and I called in and I'm told they no longer do that, to bad pretty much and I asked if they could just ale the shrimp out and have it with chicken only they said no. Said they have 2 options and everything is premade already! It's spring rolls how hard could it be? I'll pay extra this is crazy and not to mention the guy was rude and a mouth breather... Worst food of all time....Everything and i mean everything is inedible. Do not bother...unless you want to eat puke or are on a severe cleanse program. That said the staff was okay, the manager had to reduce our check for the food as we only had one bite & absolutely were sickened by any item we ordered. There was no stomaching that mess which was served to us. We actually had ordered a variety of menu items to share - no one ate anything after first taste. We left with a very bad taste about the overall experience. BTW - don't serve tap water with floating unknown items in the glass. Okay - my wine which took over 20 minutes from order to serve was fine however the worst part of it was there was only 8 people in the place at 6:30pm on a Friday! They have a great happy hour, but stick w/ the spring rolls. Sushi was so bad and even w/ buy one get one free, yuck. The satay was fried! I try to go for the healthy options and they fried the chicken satay. Go for drinks, but stick with the spring rolls and maybe a Thai dish. Have to say I was disappointed with the food. I love sawatdee and have been going to the original in Minneapolis since the 90's. I was staying in Maple Grove so instead of going downtown I stopped at this location and ordered PAD THAI. I asked for THAI hot. As I started eating I realized it was more on a 2 out of 5 scale. I told the waitress it wasn't anywhere near Thai hot and she said , oh your in Minnesota we don't even use Thai Chili. She could have told me this when I ordered. read more

We had dinner yesterday on a Wednesday night. It was busier than I expected but we were seated right away. Drinks arrived quickly but were on the expensive end. $7 for 22oz domestic. We ordered for 2 adults and 2 kids. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. The server checked in and said they are backed up the kitchen. I understand but the wait was over an hour. Once the food arrived, I had the ginger stir fry and it was fantastic. The manager came over and apologized for the long wait and said he would help us out. And he absolutely did. I didn't ask for anything but he understood that was way to long to wait. My sincere thanks to him and the server for handling the situation how they did. Last night my husband and I had reservations for Valentine's Day at 6:30pm. We got the special promotion they were offering which consisted of a two drinks (which they were out of the beer that my husband wanted...how do you run out of beer on a holiday?), couple apps, your choice of two of four main courses and mochie for desert. Pros - main course food was good and that is where it ends. It was busy and we expected a longer time before we got our food and drinks but it was only about 2/3rds full so it wasn't THAT busy. Our waitress was nice but I would guess maybe new? We didn't get our drinks for 25 mins and when she brought us our food at 50 mins we told her we haven't gotten our appetizers she was very confused and kept asking which ones we had ordered..... uummm.....the ones that come with the VDay special? We got our apps at 56 mins. She went and found our app and brought it out to us and said "Sorry, it was back there all the time and I didn't see it." Needless to say it was cold and if I had to guess it was back there at least 30 mins. So when we finally started eating I realized we did not have napkins and asked her for some and she brought our a stack of paper napkins, which fine but when everyone else in the restaurant has cloth ones that was odd. Our waitress stopped by our table a few times through out the whole time there but every time it was just to give us excuses about the delay. There were people who were seated after us who got our food and left during the time we were waiting for our food so maybe this was just our experience? It all was disappointing to say the least. VDay is only one day a year and we chose to spend it there and the service was so bad it was almost laughable. Had a groupon coupon so I thought I would give this place a try. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and the first thing they asked us (before we were even seated) was if we had a groupon coupon. LOL Not sure if that means they serve substandard food to us couponers or what. Service was slow. The waitress only waited on one table at a time, going back into the kitchen after each conversation. I ordered the cashew chicken stir fry...spice level 3. It was not spicy in the least. It did have a fair amount of veggies but not much chicken and the flavor was okay. My dining companion ordered the Pad Thai -no spice. They had a picture of it in their menu and what she received looked nothing like it. The flavor was good but all she had was noodles; only a couple of pieces of chicken and absolutely no other veggies. We also ordered the chicken satay which was completely overcooked and looked like those dry chicken strip treats you give to your dog. Overall, I wasn't impressed and because it is so expensive, I wouldn't consider returning unless I had another coupon. read more

This review is for Sawatdee and Zushiya of Maple Grove. We had food both from the Sawatdee menu and the Zushiya menu. Our meals started off very nice. The appetizers were great. I ordered some sashimi, ama ebi or sweet (raw) shrimp, and tako or octopus and a salmon skin sushi roll. The waitress read the order back saying I had ordered a spicy salmon skin roll. I tried to correct her, but she insisted that it was spicy salmon. When the sushi/sashimi arrived I had fully cooked shrimp or ebi, large thick slabs of octopus and the salmon skin roll. When I asked the waitress about the shrimp I was told that what was on my plate was ama ebi and argued with me about whether it was cooked or not. She returned and said that they do not serve raw shrimp so I asked why it was on the menu, but got no answer. The octopus was about 3 inches by 1 inch by 1/4 inch thick. A generous serving, but not what I want as sashimi, not to mention there were ice crystals in the center of the meat. The salmon skin roll was what I expected, except that there was so little of anything but rice in it, that the rice was the only thing I could taste. I had the drunken shrimp entree. The flavors of the shrimp were good, but the veggies were cold and undercooked, perhaps thrown in the bowl just before serving. Now I am a spicy food eater and usually order my Thai food hot at the restaurants I am familiar with, but I ordered this at medium due to it being my first time there. Though it was not too spicy at first after about three shrimp and some veggies my tongue burnt so badly I was unable to eat rice. read more

Let me start of by saying Thai food is my favorite, so I'm a little biased towards any Thai food restaurant. I've been going to Sawatdees in Maple Grove for a little over two years now. Although I generally enjoy their food, I have noticed inconsistencies at that location. I usually order the sweet green chicken curry (which I highly recommend by the way), but depending on the day of the week it had different ingredients in it. It never really tastes bad, it's just a little off putting that you never know exactly what you're going to get. Also, the cushions on the booths are falling off. With that being said the waiters are always nice, and it is the best Thai place in Maple Grove. read more

I've been to Sawatdee in Maple Grove a handful of times. However, I don't come for the food, I come for the band Then and Now that plays on the weekends. (You should really check them out, you won't be disappointed. Their service is not great, but we have come to expect that each visit. The only thing that I really like on the menu is the coconut shrimp and spring rolls. Their sushi is average so I never buy the $15 dollar roll anymore. read more

My 3 yr old son enjoyed the sushi (from next door at Zushiya, technically) and I had delicious pad thai with chicken. The spice ratings are spot on. Went here for a Wednesday lunch with my office buddies and it was about 20% full. Place was dull , it needs little bit of work to give it a pop. Service was ok. They have a lunch special menu as well. I ordered a cashew stir fry with chicken. I ordered with medium spicy but it was almost sweet. so if you are ordering medium in other places order hot here. Portion sizes were more than enough for a single person.There was nothing special about the stir fry , it tasted ok. But they did charge me extra for some broccoli and you have to pay extra if you want to substitute white rice with brown rice as well. My coworkers and I stopped by for some sushi. It was a big mistake. All the rolls were all very loose- we could not pick them up at all. I had to scoop the pieces onto my plate, and then eat them bit by bit. One coworker wanted their spiciest roll, and the one that was recommended was not spicy at all- I tried it. Mine had jalepeno in it, and wasn't even one the waitress recommended for spice. The worst part, by far, happened to my other coworker. The eel in her roll had bones and skin in it! She complained to the waitress- who didn't apologize, but just said she'd talk to the sushi chef. She came back a minute later, and reported that he said they buy their eel precooked from some company, and he just cuts it up. And anyway, IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT. No apology, no discount, no new roll, nothing. We all have had unagi numerous times and never encountered bones or tough skin. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times. Sometimes the food tastes better than other times. However, if I ask for Thai hot; don't insult my intelligence or palette and serve me something not even close to Thai Hot. I was married in Bangkok and had my honeymoon in Pattaya. I've had Thai Hot and this doesn't scratch the surface. Aside from that sometimes the fried rice is on point and sometimes I have have to grab the salt. Again, it's the consistency of the food. The ambience and decorations of the restaurant are great. They have a great bar. We've never had bad service per se (except failing to provide that Thai Hot spicy level). read more

What a disaster (awful service, forgotten orders, long wait, and way below average quality of food). I was warned looking at Google's review of this location (but not chain, for example the Washington ave downtown location is great) but I met a friend here anyway. After my experience here I'm convinced one or a few of the servers are likely *consistently* providing the awful service users are ranting about. It's not the best quality of sushi. The salmon nigiri was discolored and had a weird smell. I've eaten enough sushi in my life to know that this is not normal. When we mentioned it to the waitress and showed her ,she said she would go talk to the chef. She came back with the story that it's that kind of cut, and the chef said it's normal. Worst dining experience in a long time! Took an hour to get food because "we just had 20+ takeout orders come in". When it did finally show up, the pad Thai was very bland. With a heat level of 2, we could not tell there was any spice in it at all. The Phuket sling tasted like a melted freezee, and the mojito tasted like sugar and lime juice. Well, my server was excellent, attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere and decor were what you expect of a chain in the Arbor Lakes area. Very dark for lunch on a weekday, I guess they want more of an evening dinner vibe. I work weird hours so I had lunch at about 3:30 pm. I had the panang curry with chicken, with a spicy rating of 3 out of 5. I think if I were to go back I would up to a 4. The flavors over all were underwhelming compared to thai curries I have had at family run restaurants. And I know it is ideal to have your coconut fat separate in the curry so you get those nice fat droplets floating on top, but this dish had easily a full centimeter of grease scumming the surface. Blegh. Maybe if it had adequate spice & flavor this would've been forgivable. At least the dark meat chicken was moist and tender, in large chunky portions. read more

I've been coming here since it opened and sawatdee overall for a lot longer. I love the food. I typically order pad see yew, red curry, or the lemongrass curry (that they took off the menu for some reason but will still make on request). The fresh spring rolls are worth coming here for just by them self. Everything is always great. We've taken our kids, we've taken friends, and we've gone on date nights. My only critique would be what some others have said, and that is the seating can be awkward sometimes if you get stuck on the shared bench. read more

I placed a to go order online, was quoted to pay a different price, looked at the receipt and saw it was rang up differently as well.
