Solid place for Thai food. The portion sizes were quite good for the price I paid. I got the Pineapple Fried Rice and it had the right balance of heat from dried chilies and spice from the use of curry powder. The addition of cashew nuts helped to provide an extra level of crunch while the pineapple chunks provide a layer of sweetness. While service can be kinda slow, it was not bad. The ambiance was ok, although a remodel of the location would be nice and would benefit the restaurant. But overall, no complaints. Wouldn't mind coming back again :) read more

This restaurant has become a non-starter for me. Their food is good, no question. Their attitude and customer service are terrible. I understand that kitchens make mistakes. But don't blame or vilify your customers when a mistake occurs. Don't speak to them rudely and most of all, don't ask them to return an incorrectly made meal. This is highly aggravating! It was close to a friend's house, so we were lured in by all the good reviews when we were hungry for lunch. Maybe if I had the Thai food I would have loved it, but I had sushi, and it was just okay. Located in a strip mall with plenty of parking, just be aware that multiple people will drive the wrong way down the one-way parking lot. Inside it was cute and clean, and had one server to take care of people inside the restaurant, and all the to-go orders. I have to note that it was pretty warm in the restaurant, even though they had a floor fan blowing air around. I went with the sashimi platter, edamame, and a house salad. The salad and edamame obviously require little effort, so those were fine. The sashimi pieces were small and thin, and unfortunately did not have much flavor. If I go back, I'll try the Thai food instead; hopefully that's where they shine. read more

I would've given this place 5 stars years ago but after the pandemic the quality of this place isn't what it use to be. The the pad thai used to be really savory when I ordered spice level "Hot," but I recently ordered it for lunch and it was just soaked in hot spice with no true pad thai flavor (don't get me wrong I love spicy so I ate it, just wish it tasted like it use to, instead of just pepper). Have been a long time customer here going back well over a decade. I came back after being away for years and... The food is still great. Especially if you're going to bring it home. I really have no complaints there. However, the service is terrible. We were one of two tables during lunch, and the waitress really seemed like she had a dozen other things she'd rather be doing. She didn't even get one of the orders right. To me, the biggest sin since I left is they completely changed the interior of the restaurant. Where before it seemed like you were in a Thai restaurant (think wood carvings, elephants, etc.) the redid the entire interior to look like... I don't know, a millennial tea shop, maybe? Whatever it is, you'd never know you were in a Thai restaurant. It could be anything. Ultimately, order take out and you'll probably be happy as the food is still good (4 stars). Went to Sawatdee for red curry. I typically get the pad Thai, but wanted to try something new. The red curry comes with peas and carrots which I'm not use to. I asked them to take it out because I prefer not to have it. I went with hot for the heat level, which was perfect. They are really quick getting your food ready. Just arrived in Tampa for a work conference and wanted something a little close to home for me. I was craving some really good calamari and this was the first place that populated in the app. As I parked in their huge parking lot, I was self sat and immediately taken care of by the server. The food took a while to come out, but that's how you know it's fresh! I ordered the chicken pad see ew and fried calamari. You can tell it's extremely authentic by the sound of the wok you hear in the kitchen, and the dialect between employees. This has got to be the best Thai food I've ever had living in Florida. I have had my eye on this restaurant for quite some time so I was excited when my friend recommended we eat here. We walked in and the place was small and simple looking. It was pretty empty around 5:30 on a Saturday. By 6:30 it got pretty full. It was uncomfortably quiet in there. We were seated right next to the only other family in there even though the entire restaurant was empty. I actually started to whisper because I feel like the other customers could hear my entire conversation. Perhaps they could have music on? I ordered the chicken pad Thai. Thinking back the lady never asked what spice level I wanted which I thought was pretty standard at most Thai restaurants. The food came out really really quick so I assume they had it pre-made and just warmed it up. It was average in my opinion. In fact, it was a little on the sweet side. I would love to have a conversation with the manager and give them an opportunity to apologize because I certainly didn't get an apology from the staff. I have been coming here for a couple of years for their lunch special as the location is convenient when I WFH. I ordered online as I usually do and when I arrived to pick it up I was told she couldn't find my order on her computer. I showed her my receipt. I showed her my bank account where the money had been withdrawn already. She said she had to call her manager. I asked if they could at least start cooking my order while they figured it out as I was on a 30 minute lunch break She turned her back and ignored me while she called. If I hadn't paid already I would've walked out then but I spent another 15 minutes waiting for her to contact her manager. She came back and said the manager said the.order didn't go through and I had to pay again. THEN I walked out and spent the remaining 7 minutes of my lunch break calling the bank to dispute the charge. I'm sorry to lose a cheap lunch option but there are plenty of other restaurants around that treat their customers with respect. Lunch time tends to be busy and it can be a challenge serving large parties. My party of 7 arrived early. There was one waitress who urged us to place our order because there is only one chef. I had the Pad Thai with fried tofu lunch special. The price was reasonable and the food was tasty. During my time there, the entire restaurant basically filled. I randomly stopped into this hidden gem during lunch, early lunch right when it opened at 11:30. I enjoyed the fact that it's nice and clean, soothing atmosphere/music, the waitress was sweet and attentive, and my food was fresh. When you order the lunch special you get a soup and appetizer. This is one of my favorite places in Tampa and I'm so glad a coworker told me about it. The food is amazing. There's everything from ye olde Pad Thai to nice curries and rice dishes to AMAZING stir fries. My favorites are the basil and the black pepper. Everything can be adjusted to your spice level. I tend to get mine medium unless I'm getting it to go so I can take it home and let my nose run to my heat-loving heart's content. I definitely recommend the prawn crackers for an appetizer, but their soups are delicious, too. I personally love the chicken tom yum. My absolute favorite dish and my standard go to is the pad ba mee noodles. Always round it out with some fried banana if you've got room. Try and do it anyway if not! So yummy. The service is good. Always good. Sometimes it's over the top amazing but always at least good. We've never had a bad meal here. read more

This place is very tasty, always fast and good food. We love the panang curry and chicken pad Thai, a weekend go to when I am not cooking.

Whenever I am craving some good pad thai, I always order from here! Pad thai is my absolute favorite food and so living in Tampa, I just had to try the different Thai places around here and I came to the conclusion that their pad thai was the best. So yes, this pad thai is very good to me. The sauce is that nice orange color and it is neither too sweet or too sour. The noodles are cooked perfectly al dente, not too hard or too soft. There are the other key ingredients such as bean sprouts and scallions (green onions) and topped off with crushed peanuts. I usually order the chicken pad thai, and the chicken is tender, never dry. I have also tried it with the shrimp and that is pretty good too. With the krab rangoons, I had them as an appetizer. I'll be honest that it was something different than what I'm normally used to. Their krab rangoons included curry powder in the cream cheese krab filling, so it reminded me of Indian food, but I enjoyed it, it worked with the krab rangoon pretty well. And instead of using the usual sweet and sour sauce for the dipping sauce, they used a sweet plum sauce which was also different to me, but it worked as well. The restaurant is always nice and calm when I go in and the food comes out relatively fast. Will I ever try other dishes at Sawatdee? Probably! Maybe when I am not craving their chicken pad thai because that it literally all that I order from there since it's so good. read more

Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area, the lack of decent Thai cuisine in Tampa is astonishing to me. We decided to stop by here for lunch because we both wanted Thai food and this place was nearby. I had a feeling the food would not be authentic based on the pictures I saw on Yelp and it turned out I was absolutely correct. Per the menu, I'd say this place is more Pan-Asian than Thai. They also have Chinese and Japanese dishes mixed in between the Thai offerings. Not a good sign. We decided to get tom yum soup, drunken noodles, and summer rolls. The tom yum soup was decent but a tad too sweet. The drunken noodles tasted terrible, worse than what a drunk person could cook. My dining companion normally likes summer rolls but he only had two bites of his order. I knew we weren't expecting much but I was beyond disappointed after dining here. Two stars is the best I could offer. Deff won't return. read more

I AM SO UPSET!!! I ordered from Sawatdee Thai Cuisine for the first and it was shocking. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and Crab Rangoons. They told me 15 minutes and as soon as I got there 15 minutes later the food was ready. When I entered it was very quiet and the hostess was very pleasant and nice. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food they give you. I drove back home and I was stunned. The food was so good it didn't make any sense. I was surprised because this was my first time hearing about it. The pad Thai had the right amount of spice to it and the crab rangoons were ok but that's what I expected. Also the management makes the employees call them (as they are not on site) to find out what to do when they have to correct an order. Meh. Our Tom yum and Tom kha were both okay. Heavy on the seasoning, which gave them a strong flavor we love, but no veggies at all-- I would have loved some tomato, mushroom, something! Just chicken and broth, leaving much to be desired. Our dinner items were equally as disappointing. My "basil" dish has little to no basil and was hands down the most bland Thai dish I have ever had. My mom had the panang and we all just scratched our heads after trying it. No peanut flavor really. It was very very sweet and the sauce was almost syrupy and drenched the noodles (we were expecting rice). My sister had some noodle dish. Nothing to write home about. Overall, I wouldn't turn down a meal here in the future, but I'm certainly not going to be returning by my own choice. read more

I do a lot of Thai. Probably because most of what I eat out are things I can't cook. Thai is a challenge for me because I still have not mastered that damn brown sauce. Without a good brown sauce Thai is feeble and weak. Like a limp noodle. That's what I get most of the time I attempt Thai, limp noodles. One of the first things I noticed, upon entering Sawatdee during the daylight, was that they had a special menu called a "Lunch Menu." I had always heard about such things but had never experienced one before. It was crazy. There were things on the menu that weren't on their normally like free salads and tofu and little donuts. All at no cost to you. This was the life. Our meal started with a bowl of soup, a fried piece of tofu with dipping sauce and some egg rolls. Neither the soup or tofu was spectacular. Both just served their purpose. The soup was light and full of veggies while the tofu and sauce gave me something a little more substantial until the main course appeared. The egg rolls were pretty good, the surface was dry and crispy not weighed down by oil or grease (as is sometimes the case with egg rolls). My normal Sawatdee (and Thai in general) order is the basil or the garlic. The basil is sauteed tofu with Thai special sauce (there it is, that damn brown sauce), basil, onions, bell pepper and bamboo shoots. The garlic is tofu, Thai Special Sauce, garlic, black pepper, carrot, cabbage and broccoli. Craving something different I decided to try the Panang Curry. With tofu, zucchini, cabbage, broccoli, bell pepper and basil in a base of coconut milk I was very impressed (more impressed than I thought a curry could ever make me). The sauce wasn't overwhelmingly coconut (or overwhelmingly anything for that matter). The spices were gentle enough to allow the vegetables and tofu to shine through. It made me want to go home and attempt my own version. J-Fur went with her old stand-by, the Pad Thai. This is what really sets Sawatdee apart from some of the other Thai places in Tampa. Thai Ruby's Pad Thai lacks any taste at all. I felt like I was eating second hand chewing gum. Ploy Thai's is just a bit too saucy. Lemon Grass overpriced theirs. Sukhothai overegged. Sawatdee (and the Buddhist Temple) are the only places that we've visited that consistently deliver a good Pad Thai to your plate. This pleases J-Fur (and me, because I get her leftovers). read more

It has been a long time where I've ordered an appetizer, entree and a dessert in a restaurant and have actually ate it all . The food was absolutely delicious and worthwhile, the prices are highly reasonable and our server was kind and patient . I without a doubt will be returning ..1,2,3 more times who knows ! I have been going to Sawatdee Thai for almost 20 years, seen the upgrades and the changes in owners and chefs. I go every week, sometimes twice. Please Nash (the owner) your new chef is not good. I ask for medium spice...nothing. The noodles were under cooked. No flavor. If a regular chef is trying to train a new chef and he doesn't want to listen or wants to cook the way he wants to, you are going to lose customers. Consider the feedback to be constructive, I love you guys but I can't afford to pay $26 for soup, dinner and Thai tea and throw the dinner away. read more
