My company ordered lunch form this place for a pick up. I had Salmon Benedict. The description on Toast app was absent so I had no idea it was served on a hashbrown until I go it. Which I wouldn't order if I knew. The sauce tasted a little weird, left a strong aftertaste. I was a bit concerned so i didn't finish my food. I stated feeling a tad queasy a couple hours after. My drink was not what I ordered - Amethyst Matcha on Oat. It looks and tastes like espresso and on regular milk. I cannot this amount of milk. :/ aaaaand they give you paper straws with drinks, which is a big no-no for me, there are plenty of eco-friendly options on the market these days to not let your customers drink from a soggy paper straw (had to reuse one from my previous drinks). read more

I kept seeing Sawyer & Co on social media so when in Austin we decided to try it for breakfast. A lot of people mention long wait times but we must have gone at a good hour because we got seated right away even though it was Formula One weekend. On our way out we did see a line forming so I guess we got lucky. The food was good, nothing that really blew me away, just classic diner food which makes sense because it is a diner. What I will say is the service was great. Our waitress was really nice and the staff kept checking on us to make sure everything was good which I appreciated. Overall it was a fine experience and I understand why people enjoy it, especially if you arrive at the right time. read more

Came to Sawyer & Co for brunch this morning with my hubby and first of all, felt like I was being transported back in time with the decor. Very retro diner vibes with hints of modern day designs. Super cute. For the meal - they had a daily special running for blueberry lavender matchas and blueberry lavender lattes so I ended up snagging the matcha and it was very very good (I opted for iced). I ordered the Lost Bread (aka French toast) with a side of bacon and my husband ordered the breakfast biscuit with the strawberry compote that accompanies the pancakes. Super obsessed with the approach of the French bread because it was actually made with....French bread. Randomly went here for happy hour and enjoyed everything! We went on National Tequila Day because they had advertised specials, however the staff didn't know about it. We ended up getting discounted happy hour cocktails that did not have tequila in them. Both drinks we ordered were delicious! This cute little diner had great cocktails. We ordered a burger with fries and some type of roasted veggie grits bowl. Everything was delicious and prices were so reasonable. We will definitely be back for breakfast or brunch soon. 1145 on Sunday is the absolute worst time to go to Sawyer & Co for brunch. So we went. At least my friend had made a reservation, but we still had to wait a little while among the hungry hordes. Our server was genial but frazzled. He seemed puzzled when my friend asked her eggs be "soft-scrambled." Or, more likely, unsure of how to enter that on his order-taking device. The eggs arrived well done and she rolled her eyes, pushing them aside. She just shrugs it off because she's a better person than I am, and never ever sends food back. She said everything else was good. I ordered the simplest 2-egg breakfast, and it was delicious. Well I love this place. It's a cute little diner in Austin. The parking lot was very busy but I'm glad we found a spot. I had reservations and I'm glad we did because they were so full inside. But I still opted to eat outside. Their outside area is cute. And I had a nice view of their coffee van. It's such a cute idea. Very chill area with nice vibes. We came here for my friend's bachelorette brunch. They had plenty of seating available both indoor and outdoor so no problem sitting a large group. Our server was amazing and offered great suggestions. I went with the Chicken and Pancakes and it was delicious. I loved the vanilla butter that comes on top really added to the dish. But $19 felt like a lot and mine was $15 only because it was a weekly special. So prices are kinda high but probably not for these days. Mine was good being it was a special. If you're looking for a healthier option, I really enjoyed the roasted root vegetables with eggs. The biscuit is yummy too . First time coming here while waiting for our flight. It's a cute & nice whole in the hall. The food is good nothing wowed me just typical diner food. My friend got a burger and that was better. I was bummed they don't do lattes after 3pm. The service also wasn't the greatest. I keep wanting to get my water refill but they wouldn't come. Then we never got the billed so I went to the front and paid and she never told me how much was everything she just took my card and after all I saw was 50 dollars as but I didn't know for what. Came here on a Sunday and mistake #1 was not having a reservation. They use open table and Id highly recommend using it for a reservation on the weekends. Two of us ended up waiting for an hour for our table :/ Servers were very nice and attentive. We ordered the meatloaf Hawaiian sliders, eggs Benedict, and the Jorge Benedict. The highlight was the biscuits- they are very good. The eggs Benedict was the winner out of the dishes we ordered, but the meatloaf was also surprisingly delicious. Interior decor is well done. Pro tip their brunch menu is better than their typical menu. Which brunch is only offered on weekends. Also this place gets packed on weekends so consider making a reservation on Open Table! We started our brunch with the Meatloaf sliders which were good the crispy onion ring was a nice touch but would have preferred a bit less BBQ sauce. My entree was Jorge's Benedict which came with pork carnitas served on a biscuit. The biscuit was okay didn't really go well with the carnitas overall it was a decent dish but a bit heavy. I had a team breakfast here and and since I was running a little late had no trouble finding a table. We came on a Tuesday so the Blue Plate special was the meatloaf and I thought, why not? Sawyer's known for Southern style cuisine, but it looked a lot more like Louisiana which I thought was fine too. We started with boudin balls which were all right. I like boudin and it lacked the spice or the richness. I decided to go with their blue plate special which was the meatloaf while some of my team got breakfast fare. It was at this point that we started talking and then my boss mentioned how long the wait for food was. I thought I was the only one but I do tend to count down rather quickly so I figured I was an outlier but if someone else in my party notices then it's got to be true. The wait was further confirmed when my food arrived, my meatloaf was lukewarm at best, it seemed like it may have been waiting to be picked up and left there or maybe it was made first and the rest of the food had to be made. The scramble was the least interesting of the meal, but it was still enjoyable. We ordered a blueberry muffin and didn't get it until we were getting boxes to pack up our food even though we mentioned it earlier that they forgot it. The Sawyer people were very kind to me when I showed up at their establishment in some distress. I will spare you the details ... But let me just say that as people the Sawyer and Company people are first rate. * * * I ate and drank only modestly since I was largely there for other reasons. But I can make a few general comments so you know what to expect. 1) Sawyer and Company is on the premises of the former Arkie's. Arkie's was an old school 1950's style diner - real deal not fake re-creation with Elvis 45s pinned on to the wall. The original Arkie's looked and felt like a lunch counter which was the way it was supposed to look and feel. The food was utterly mediocre. It was a pure atmosphere play ... So you ordered scrambled eggs and toast and hoped today's coffee wouldn't be too bad. 2) The decorating job that has been done on Arkie's is first rate. It is Yuppie reimagination of 50s style. This retro style shows up all over Austin. The real deal people at Arkie's would not have approved one bit. But their taste in decorating was about as good as what they put on the plates. I am just as happy the original owners were NOT involved in the interior makeover. Now the place is eye candy all the way. 3) I was too sick to think about ordering anything from the bar. But the liquor offerings at the bar look really misconceived. There is a lot of the cheap booze that shows up in college establishments. Seriously consider staying sober when you come here. If you must drink, drink beer. 4) My stomach was fine although much of the rest of me was not. So I made a stab at the deviled eggs. The deviled eggs were just like my Mom used to make. My Mom was not real good with deviled eggs. They get total authenticity points for this one. 5) The people were as nice as they could possibly be. I stayed there until I was in shape to move on. It was a lovely place to be. * * * Some day I would like to come back and really check the place out properly. Breakfast seems to be their main activity.
