I came to Sawyer & Co for the first time with my wife and some friends to celebrate a birthday. We came on a Sunday at 11:30-thankfully we had made a reservation (highly recommend) about a week in advance. The restaurant was poppin when we arrived, super busy!! We got sat not too long after the timing of our reservation. Ambiance: the restaurant has an old school diner vibe, which was pretty cool. It wasn't a huge space--tables were pretty close to one another and it was SUPER NOISY. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you're looking for something intimate or "chill" this place probably isn't that. Very loud and was super busy, servers running left and right the whole time. My friends and I were talking pretty loud in order to hear one another. Service: our server was great!! He was super attentive and made great suggestions, including the food special for the day, which I ordered because of his descriptiveness: The Big Bob. He was quick to refill drinks when they ran low and was very transparent in communicating with us why our food took so long to come out. This leads me to my reasoning for my 4-star review rather than 5-star--our food took 40ish minutes to come out after we had placed our order. Thankfully our company made it bearable with conversations, but had it been just my wife and I we probably would have left and ate elsewhere. Food: The upside to the long delay, aside from the great service, was the food. It was delicious. I had "The Big Bob"--medium-cooked egg, bacon, sausage in a flaky, soft biscuit topped with a delicious gravy--with a side of potatoes. It was so goooood and just the right amount of food. We got our drinks and appetizers in pretty quick but ended up waiting over an hour for our main entrees. Our server was friendly and kept checking up on us but due to a large group the kitchen was backed up. Understandable but still an hour seems a bit excessive. The food was alright but I didn't appreciate the lack of items that didn't include pork. Seemed like it was part of almost every entree in some way. I would come again but not as a first choice brunch option in Austin. BLAT 7/10: I was able to replace the bacon with some poached eggs. The avocado was a nice touch and bread was nicely toasted. The dish I ordered was mostly french fries and they were simply decent at best. Super disappointing experience. And super disappointing to view that my final amount paid was not adjusted like they verbally told me they would do so?? I guess I should've asked for a receipt. Lastly, there were flies, swarming about nearby the patio door and at my table.. get a trap or two or something.... I recommend getting on the waitlist before arriving at the restaurant, especially on busy days like Sunday for brunch. It gets very hectic during Sunday brunch. They have a nice and spacious heated patio that we sat outside in. If you are claustrophobic, I do not recommend sitting inside. Our waitress was so helpful in helping me choose what to order. We got the deviled eggs for an appetizer and they were delicious. The highlight of my meal was definitely the shrimp and grits. Wow! What a flavor packed dish. I would eat that everyday if I could. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and the shrimp sauce mixed with the grits tasted heavenly. I also really enjoyed the side dishes but unfortunately got too full to finish them. We came to eat here while on vacation in Texas because our friends recommended the restaurant. I see why! The vibe is great with a 70s retro feel. Love the teal tables and lighting throughout. The food was good. Our kids got kids meals and enjoyed their meal. The drinks were great. I got a Bloody Mary which had lots of flavor. The service was ok, but they could have checked on us faster or more frequently as the restaurant wasn't even crowded. We were there for an early dinner. Went for a late Sunday Brunch 2.00 11/16 as we know the wait is very long! Sat at the bar and the service was awesome I wish I had asked their names, it was like watching a ballet the 2 bartenders were in total sync. Even better than the service was the food. I came here to celebrate my birthday and left completely disappointed. While we were seated quickly with our reservation, it took quite a while before anyone acknowledged us. Orders had to be repeated multiple times and still came out wrong or incomplete. I decided to treat myself to the Strawberry Mocha Matcha, which sounded unique but was honestly awful--chalky texture, poor-quality syrup, and unpleasant flavor. We mentioned it to our server, who apologized and said she'd remove it from the bill, but it was never taken off. The main reason we came was for the pecan-crusted bacon. We placed two orders, only to be served regular bacon and told afterward that they no longer carry the pecan version. Drinks sat empty, entrees arrived at random times (some with appetizers), and the food overall was sub-par--the potatoes were the only thing worth finishing. I was excited to introduce this place to friends, but we all left disappointed and feeling a bit cheated. For the quality we received, the high prices and poor service just aren't justifiable. Very bad service--sitting at the bar for brunch and waited a long time to order. When the food came before my coffee drink, and I asked about my coffee the waitress seemed to resent my request. When she brought it, it was lukewarm, and she had spilled the coffee into the saucer. No apology or acknowledgement. When I asked for extra napkins she never brought them and I had to go get them at the front desk. She never checked back with us and we had to get our bill from someone else. The runner said someone hurt themselves so the latte would be an even longer and he somehow failed to notice my lack of utensils as did every other server who walked by. I've been to Sawyers many times for breakfast. I like their outdoor seating and their serving sizes. This morning I was looking forward to getting there early for a Sunday (9:30 am). As I walk up, I noticed that the patio was basically empty. I could see at least 6-8 open tables. When I got to the hostess stand, the manager quickly told me that the outdoor seating was all booked up with reservations and all they had open was bar seating. I sat 1 seat away from the hostess stand. The very next party to arrive asked for outdoor seating, the hostess asked if they had a reservation and they said they did not. The hostess grabbed menus and had someone take them outside to sit. That was extremely annoying since this was the main reason I chose to go to Sawyers. I decided to just ignore it and order my food. (But it was hard to ignore when the next 3 parties didn't have reservations and were still set outside. The bar was very busy, when my food arrived you could tell it had been warmed up in a microwave. The eggs were tough, not to mention the biscuit was hard as a rock. On top of this, the serving size was about half the size I've normally received in the past. As I mentioned the bar was busy, they only had 1 or maybe 2 servers working the bar and my server didn't check on me after I received my food. My coffee cup was half empty when I got my food and I was never offered a refill. To get my check, I had to wait about 10 mins and I had to waive my server down to get it. I probably could've just got up, left and no one would've noticed. A $25 breakfast for one person is the norm in Austin, but this experience and the food wasn't worth $5. I honestly left there and stopped at a coffee shop to get more coffee and a breakfast sandwich since I was still hungry. My biggest annoyance was when I left and walked by the patio, all the tables outside were still available... I doubt they even had reservations, I am sure since I was a single they didn't want me taking up a 2 top outside. Very disappointing experience and I'm not sure I'll be going back. read more

Their food is honestly pretty mid, and service is even worse. I feel like we were constantly waiting to chase people down to ask for the check, to order more food, and to even see where our initial order was. They were doing a collab with a crawfish vendor, and the crawfish was so sad. The flavor wasn't great, and I have no idea why I had so many potatoes (which adds to the weight) while my friend had almost none. We also got some things from their happy hour menu--don't order the queso. It hardened almost immediately when it came to us. It's a cute spot, but I also don't recommend sitting outside in the summer. There were so many flies and it really worsened the entire experience. read more
